Okay so in summary: you are undead neoanarchists fighting The Man, the Underworld's version of the Patriarchy(?), and if you dick around too long you inevitably become a necromantic abomination yourself if you don't die from old age. Oh and Evil Sin-Eaters become The Man they even change their morality with Tyranny becoming NPCs. This is so heavily focused on that it's actually better to just go back to 1e flavor but using the new 2e crunch because it's a vast improvement.

Well, lets see.
In one, a bunch of people decided to reach for the heavens. In doing so, they created a Celestial Ladder, and merged their souls with the platonic symbols of tyranny. They became the Exarchs, god-kings of magic, and in order to protect their newfound power, tore down the Ladder and broke reality in the process. This wound on existence is the Abyss, the realm of unreality, from which untold horrors come forward - from stillborn universes to paradoxical laws of physics that seek to unmake the world. You are one of the select few, given the power to make things right, but thrown in a viper's nest of politics and ancient grudges and mind-rendering sorcery. You will fail short of changing the world, but at least you will do so holding to your power with all your might.
In the other, you are a down-on-his-luck private eye, partnered with a guy who claims he's a wizard and who likes to set things on fire. Maybe a little too much. You've been hired to find a gorgeous girl with green eyes, who went missing last week during a freak storm that broke out. According to the man who hired you - a guy who claims to be a god of thunder - the girl must be saved or an unspeakably evil sorcerer will return to his power, and start preparing for the invasion of his outworldly master. To make matters worse, you are hunted by a squad of robotic assassins masquerading as humans, and your only defense against them is a superhacker child and her pet dog. Go save the fucking universe.
Ascension lets you play out Terminator VS Big Trouble in Little China VS Mortal Kombat VS Matrix. Awakening doesn't.
If you ask me, Ascension wins.

This is a mite embarrassing; I haven't visited /tg/ (or the chans in general) in yonks, however I was griping to my group a while ago over the fact that all the good vampire memes are for Masquerade, not Requiem (we're prepping for Requiem).
I just thought that I might as well dump this oven-fresh OC somewhere (other than our group chat) that someone else might get a kick out of it.
So, long story short, I just posted this into one of the previous WoD Generals, since I didn't notice that it was already auto-saging, and had been for a while. My whoopsie.

Alright, why not
>we got two GMs, me and the old guy stuck in 2009 internet culture
>we're a pretty wacky bunch, the Harry Potter fangirl, his extremely chill bf, the memester, the black /pol/ack, the ditz furry girl, me, and two more guys who show up sometimes and are also pretty cool
>First game, he narrates vampire
>at character creation, it becomes very clear he really likes the potterhead's approach, so the campaign quickly (d)evolves into her and his suave NPC sire outsmarting the local camarilla and taking over from the inside
>meanwhile we just murderhobo the villian of the week every time
>At this point the furry joins and by sheer coincidence she has the same last name as my character so I declare she's my sister and make it my mission to prevent her from becoming a vampire
>pretty bad idea because the GM doesn't like me scrapping her character and forcing her make another, so things fail for me every time
>still, fall on plan B, after she's turned simply notify her family of her location so that they remove the body in daylight
>GM asspulls a vampire who sees the future out of nowhere and saves her, we never see the guy again
>try to hide my butthurt and retire the character, he walks into sunlight because he can't live with his failures
>meanwhile, meme-man is having his fun in a much more underhanded way, he convinces the potterhead to pull strings to make him a Sabbath double agent, so because he's playing along, the GM lets him diablerize a Sabbath arms dealer without much trouble, but he then triple agents the Camarilla by instigating (well, more like accelerating) a full on war, taking over the Sabbath in the process
>My next character is the brother/uncle of the arms dealer, a Giovanni who likes to keep colonial era captain ghosts around, his goal is to avenge his sister/niece's death
>Memelord had blamed her death on the potterhead, but the GM assumes I won't have any of it because out of character we all know he's responsible
>play along and work for the Camarilla for a while, slowly gain power from the glow of the potterhead's plot armor
>war is coming to a climax, OP vampires are coming to shake things up and to figure out why the power structures are so volatile around here
>mememan has a final confontation at potterhead's church/base of operations
>backstab the potterhead and kill her at the last second
>also backstab the memelord because his successful trolling went to his head and he's getting annoying both in and out of game
>OP vampires fuck me up
>everyone dies
>next game
>genius, I'm GMing
>everyone's seriously lacking in creativity, can't think of anything more interesting than jetpacks and lasers
>nazis are trying to kidnap local genius to have him fix their immortality machines, players have to go into the hollow earth and fight against nazis on dinosaurs and mech suits
>sounds cool but it felt pretty boring, just walk from encounter to encounter like a D&D party, might have been my fault because there was very little political shit but in my defense we had two sessions before we had to have an almost year long break because we couldn't coordinate
>next game, Werewolf the apocalypse
>the furry is trying to be the teamleader but she's not exactly the most threatening creature
>memester challenges her
>they proceed to have the most hilarious string of failed attacks
>they spend a full hour like two drunk puppies trying to fight while on a boat coated in butter
>the NPCs have to stop the fight out of sheer second hand embarrassment, the furry gets leadership because we're starting to despise the memeguy
>she's more of a team pet than anything, her main ability is to create a bright flash of light, she becomes the designated pointman (a.k.a. bait)
>doing werewolf shit, i.e. ecoterrorism, we have a couple cool moments, like the furry finally doing something useful by flashbanging a group of inquisitors that was kicking our asses, but it's more murderhobo D&D shit, nobody seems really interested in the plot, so the GM ups the tension a bit by having the Wyrm plot to brainwash the entire town through a TV broadcast, we Metal Gear our way inside, fight some horrifying creatures, a spider shapeshifter, and blow up the station, jumping from the top floor and surviving because werewolves
That's where we are as far as World of Darkness goes, but I've had many successful Call of Cthulhu and Paranoia campaigns with the same group, so I think I can do something interesting with the universe of our (a bit bland) WoD GM.

The summary I gave >>418766 is pretty much most of the book. The Neoanarchist flavor is omnipresent throughout the text even parts which wouldn't have it would use words like the Voiceless or just mention that kind of stuff the whole time. The new antagonists of Reapers finally gives Wraith fans a shot to actually be ghosts and the concept is cool but, again, The Man only this time you become that way from wearing a Death Mask. This even extends to Undead Dominions, actually just extyensions of Tyranny and Kerberoi is the undead embodiment of The Systemn (????). The cool parts are basically leftover bits that fleshed out stuff that was vague from the first edition like the Geist actually being your soul in a literal sense, and the Geist now has some gameplay mechanics so you can have a 2 character duo. Mechanics wise it is superior to 1e but you have to cutout most of the book's flavor.

Geist is a game about quasi-mortal psychopomps who are possessed by a type of special spirit and deal with dead people stuff. It is not a remake of Wraith.
Beast was a colossal mistake where you play as humans who have the souls of legendary monsters who glean power from making everyone around them miserable. They are so shitty that they literally inspire normal mortals around them to aspire to become heroes who will try to kill the beasts. It's damned near unplayable and full of some of the worst writing seen in a WoD product.

Play as Heroes, either that or just accept the fact that you are playing a literal and ethical monster that has no redeeming qualities and whose existence makes everyone around them suffer as you degrade their quality of life. Also you have Mary Sue plot shielding from the scorn of other supernaturals despite the fact that your eating habits often require you to reveal overtly supernatural things to mortals and that you reflexively create Hunters where none existed before which damage the local community trying to uproot signs of the supernatural, which does not only include you. You are so terrible that you have somehow warped reality so that other supernaturals think you're great, you reached in and dicked the Weaver so hard she sings your praises and then you took a pit stop to carve your sexual exploits into every surface from heaven to the dreamscape.

I'll admit I've used a Beast before for a Hunter game and my players got very animated about it very quickly, turns out that all this shit about how monstrous other supernaturals are doesn't compare to a creature that lives in the school everyone's children attend and who you know is feeding off of them, even if you can't prove it. Struck right the heart of things with a bunch of guys who have real flesh and blood kids, but it really diminished the other, less personal, threats and you can only pull the "Your loved ones are in danger" card once in a campaign. I made it count.

This kind of scenario really highlights the overall problem with Beast as a player character. Beasts are essentially aggressive sociopathy given a supernatural facade. They have to hurt and terrorize people, not because it serves a purpose, but just because. Even if they stick to petty vandalism, they still deserve to be smacked in the head by a vigilante with a baseball bat. If they escalate to worse things, because they are the bad guys and they enjoy being the bad guys for edgy shits and giggles, they deserve to die. There's no rehabilitation or humanity to restore, because it was never there, by design. Beasts were always monsters who exist to make the world worse, so they deserve to die.

They make decent antagonists though because what they want is not physical usually and that makes them much harder to approach than other kinds of supernatural. I wouldn't use a Beast though unless you're ready to commit to a long con because they are terrible as monster-of-the-week since they don't function at all like their sibling species and I would imagine it to be super frustrating to fight a supernatural that doesn't follow any of the rules.
>hunters have had several successful hunts so far in the campaign, tangling with mostly ghouls and other lessers
>everyone independently made a character with a kid, six kids (one player had twins)
>run with it and make a "Hunter" NPC named Janet who runs a daycare for kids while their allies hunt
>Janet is not a Hunter, shes a Tyrant
>when they leave she enforces strict rules that keep the kids in line, the Hunters appreciate it as it keeps the kids safe and discipline is valuable to them
>every time they come back there are signs that things have gotten stricter, at first its just a sticker chart, then its locked cubies and play fences, next time she requires a sign out sheet for each crayon
>they think its weird but hey, thats just Janet
>she suggests, before their latest hunt, that she start giving the kids firearms training and supernatural training
>there is some reluctance but they finally agree that this probably for the best
>they leave to go kill a vampire I think, I really don't remember because it was some filler thing I stapled together to work on this
>they come back, there is no Janet and no kids
>panic followed by casing the city, asking around, trying to find out who and what Janet is
>local daycares and schools mention someone that matches the description, different name, talk about her draconian habits
>mention how she was fired from every location she worked once she started getting aggressive with the kids, they deduce she started working with Hunters because she couldn't work anywhere else
>they're still uncertain if she even is supernatural
>start thinking how to find her but she finds them, sends them an email with a link to a live feed of the kids in chains somewhere
>the twins are the only ones not in chains, they have guns and are patrolling the cage with the other kids in it
>Janet sends another email explaining that they think its a training exercise but that she is in control here and she wants them to wipe out her reputation in town for her
>she wants to work again, if she can't she says she'll die (they don't understand this is sort of literal)
>they don't have the clout to accomplish that, its an impossible ask and there are too many people to keep quiet even if they wanted to, but they lie and say they'll make it happen
>they try anyways, leave a guy to talk to Janet via IM explaining how what she wants is impossible, etc.
>just gets angry and insists they do it anyways or the kids will suffer for it
>computery Hunter tracks down their location
>kick in the door
>kids are sitting at a table sipping juice boxes
>no Janet, door locks behind them
>Janet on the other side, says theres a bomb under the table set to go off in three seconds
>panic, people grab kids, try to be meat shields, hurl the table to the other side of the room, etc.
>a deep, inhuman, laugh at the other side of the door
>"Thanks for the meal guys, I'm skipping town now. Can't eat at the same place twice."
>escape and get their kids tested for all sorts of supernatural shit, none of it turns up positive, the kids are normal and healthy
>players insist I'm hiding something from them and I tell them point blank nothing is wrong with the kids, they're absolutely fine, better in fact - they know how to use guns, maintain a perimeter, rotate patrols, etc.
>players still, to this day, remain utterly confused as to what that was all about because they have no idea what a Beast is, to them some psychotic just got her rocks off on torturing them
