Anyone one else watch DnD playthroughs, listen to DnD stories, read manuals, draw up your own classes, skills, rules, worlds, but never actually played DnD, and probably never will?

My dude if you put that much time in you'd probably make a great DM. People will put up with a lot of shit just by virtue of the fact that you're a DM and willing to run shit. Roll20 and LFG threads are good places to look, and if you can make a thread on /tg/, you can make a post on one of those.

Learn more systems. There's more than DnD out there, and DnD isn't even especially good anymore. Either way, if you really wanted to play, all you have to do is try. Check local stores, ask friends, family members, just fucking google "I want to play RPGs with people", check digital tabletop sites, or check the gamefinder thread. Actually fucking try instead of being a lazy faggot who spends his time making awful threads.

Remember these simple phrases, and you might find yourself playing tabletop games more quickly than you realize.
>Hey, are you interested in playing Dungeons and Dragons?
<Alternately: replace D&D with another system you enjoy, but simply pitch it as a [Genre] Roleplaying game. Such as "Are you interested in playing a Sci-Fi Roleplaying Game?"
>I'm interested in running the game for some people and thought you might like to try it.

You reign in your autism and your edgy retard bad habits and you learn to play nice with everyone else, because RPGs and tabletop games in general are built on the overt concept of mutual enjoyment. Once you see that, it's like at least getting drenched in water before your baptism of fire.
Also, watch Zero Charisma.
Then when you see what goes wrong in that movie, try not to reproduce.

Same thing happened to me. I made probably two dozen characters before I ever got to roll a die in the presence of another player or DM. What ended up happening is that I wound up in the top echelons of charop and can no longer build anything but world-ending monstrosities that the DM now specifically asks me about the endgame of before we start a campaign.
I didn't ask for all this power.

I understand the feeling. I played brief experimental sessions with other people and did brief DMing but most of the D&D I played if you can call it that were video games such as Baldur's Gate.
The fact that I do not have friends who are into tabletop games is why I have interest in Mage-Knight since has a single player option. It also has a co-op option so if I get a friend who wants to try, it will help.

Seconded.
On a vaguely related note, one of the big reasons I learned to stop getting mad at vidya was from a sound clip in a game. When Bowser Jr. loses a race in Double Dash he has a tantrum and cries. I felt it almost sounded like me, so I learned to shut the fuck up when shit didn't go my way. Humiliation or seeing it from an outside perspective can work wonders.
Of course the downside is that many people you play with are probably going to be social awkward/broken in one way or another, so you may not gonna get the correct "feedback" for behaving normally. I.e. You act confident but fair, and some may begin to idolize you as their "best friend" despite you not giving them any extra attention or reason to, or jealousy that you're getting attention instead of them. Trying to be reasonable around unreasonable people is a sure-fire way to get dragged right back down to their level when you give up. Instead, keep finding other groups, and maybe your social skills will get you decent friends that aren't into tabletop. Which is great, because if they get curious, you can always ease them into it with some simple board-games or beer-and-pretzel style stuff.
Geography does play a big part though. If you're in a place full of assholes, you're gonna meet assholes. Thankfully the net makes your life easier in that regard for tabletop friends.
Here's How to Win Friends And Influence People- although it does take the "everyone is kind of an asshole" route.

It's been forever since I watched it, but it's not a movie with a lot of likable characters. The main character is a sperg who is too invested in his hobby to an unnatural level, for the sake of the story. One of his players has to quit their weekly game and by chance, he ends up meeting a hipster who joins the campaign. He turns out to be casually flippant about the whole thing and kills NPCs and stuff, while constantly bragging about his own life and his hot girlfriend, which the rest of the group really likes for some reason.
It's one of those movies where the humor is supposed to come from how pitiful and pathetic the characters are, and you're supposed to side with the hipster because he's successful and has a life and doesn't live with his grandma.

I'd recommend using conventions as an excuse to try out all kinds of different games. D&D and Pathfinder are ubiquitous to the extreme. You're never going to have trouble finding a session for one of those, and if you're a desperate enough retard to get in on the adventure league, there's that too. However, if you're interested in what kind of possibilities the hobby really has to offer, skipping D&D entirely is the best thing you can do for yourself as a new player.

Considering that it came out in 2013, it's hard to place the intentions of the creators. I can only imagine that they were trying to tell a story that was supposed to be relatable and identifiable for anyone who has been playing RPGs for a while, but they fucked up presenting the whole "THAT GUY" situation by just making all the characters too exaggerated and moronic. There's a lot of obnoxious and pitiful people who try to glean a sense of self-worth from their hobbies, but they're not typically the kind of people you want to spend two hours watching.

Used to go for more boardgames, card games. It also was a bar, so it wasn't so bad, could always drink which avoided some issues, as it was encouraged to buy alcohol each time there.
They will usually have a general board, "looking for group" sign up sheets, or posters detailing the official game nights. More often, the store will have a facebook group that also serves this purpose, or possibly link to city wide facebook groups. Remember, it is in the store's interest to sell the books, and related merch. So will at least do the bare minimum to facilitate games. Should be able to ask the staff flat out about pathfinder or d&d adventure league info.
The problem. Literally all kinds of people tend to sign up or participate. Which means you either will deal with literal unwashed spergs, or the worse of the worse SJW poz. There are always exceptions to the rule. And sometimes you get a good group.
Due to life, moving away from group, etc. Spend more time putting on one of the weekly twitch streams, as I only play the equivalent of one session a month.

Finding a time for an entire group to get together is fucking difficult and people are happy early on to "compromise" with a time that won't actually work for them but lets them agree with the group, because they all wants what's best for the group and think they're helping. Relax, remember that you don't mean very much in the world, and keep working on getting the group together.
>I really want these people to like me
Think of something that one of them likes, figure out how to enjoy that thing with them one on one, and call them (at a reasonable, adult with a job, hour) and make a plan to go do that thing with them in the next two or three days. Yes, it feels fucking weird to invite a sort-of friend out to get lunch at a restaurant you've never gone to before. Think of it from their perspective instead: "my new friend that is cool enough to volunteer to DM for a bunch of us was actively listening to me when I was sperging about Korean BBQ, and wants to go hang out and try some with me!" If one of those guys called wanting to hang out with you you'd be excited, right? Everyone feels like that. Everyone wants the friendship where the other guy does the heavy lifting of thinking and setting up things for you both to enjoy, so keep fighting to be that guy until you are.

Nope. I rocked up to a gaming group after my regular players schedules got ridiculous to work around and confessed I was looking to play as I'd been GMing for ages and getting folk together was like herding ADD cats on meth.
After a couple of questions ala "Have you played anything before and if so what" I got in and started playing with random new people.
Then again I have no 'tism and carry myself generally with confidence.

>Really feels like a lot of the language we're used to using all the time has really gotten muddled with with a lot of faggoty behavior, huh?
I think it's more about standards of interaction changing. People seem to have extremely thin skin and get offended easily, and the only way to "play nice" with a lot of them seems to be to just submit to whatever they want, as anything else is unacceptable. Not all, of course, but it isn't that rare to meet a person like that if you're running with a group of randoms.
I've had a fucking guy pull extreme rulecuckery of literally memorising some dev's twitter feed (and twitter>official rules, apparently) and use it to try and overrule me whenever bad shit happened to his character. Always phrased it as a "suggestion" or "reminder" but got extremely upset when I told him I'm not retconning any of it, until he eventually had a meltdown about how I'm ridiculously toxic and disrespectful (because not immediately applying his "suggestions" and retconning every 15 minutes means I apparently disregard his opinion and thus don't respect him) and how he advises everyone else to never play with me again, etc. You just can't "play nice" with people like that unless you are willing to be their bottom bitch, because they'll accept no other outcome.

Plan went horribly. They usually have vidya nights with other members of the group on Fridays which I've been to before. I asked if they were still doing that and if I could come by after work, they said they weren't able to hang out but they'd see me tomorrow. Next day (today) they come to the session and casually mention how they played vidya till 2 AM with the tranny of the group, who I'm pretty sure has convinced her that I'm problematic™. Tranny comes into the session and belittles me as a shit DM for not letting "her" be the main character and having the audacity to kill "her" pet NPC. After next session I'm pulling the plug on this group and going into self-exile in the Shadow Realm.

to be 100% honest time in the shadow realm is preferable to hanging out with a tranny, you're here you understand how dangerous self propagating mind virus are. Stay the fuck away from that shit, the only purpose a tranny has in your life is to determine your power to torque ratio. A goddamn transexual is just a goddamn mental health crisis waiting to happen with a heaping helping of communism and narcism on the side. (not to mention that your friend ditching you for a tranny is a pretty good sign they are a litteral commie faggot , you can do better).
Don't wait for next session, get out now. Enjoy some quality time in the shadow realm and next time remember the cardinal rule of male hobbies past 2007, Trannies, Faggots and Commies NEVER.

Be less desperate. Girls aren't the only ones who find that shit creepy and offputting. If they're not up for it, don't hassle 'em. Just find other people to play with. And if you can't find other people, then them's the breaks. You can always try roll20 or gamefinder if you're hard-up for a game. You'll get a game in a snap if you offer to DM on roll20.
Pressuring people you want to like you to join a game with you is liable to backfire hard in terms of getting them to like you. Learn to be chill like normal people.

/tg/ complaints department here: Have you tried straightforwardly talking it out like mature adults?
You don't need to full-on abandon ship and shadow realm. Just tell the tranny outright that "she" is being rude and disruptive, you and "her" are clearly not getting along, and it doesn't seem like this is going to work out, so politely uninvite "her" from the group either now or after next session. If the tranny flips "her" shit or starts trouble-seeking, don't rise to the bait, just respond calmly that "she" is proving your point about disruptive behavior and not getting along. Stick to that and just keep calm. Don't bother responding to stupid shit. If "she" insists to show up and come watch, politely tell "her" that this is going to add unnecessary stress and an uncomfortable atmosphere to what is supposed to be a fun and relaxing evening, and tell "her" the phrase "I must ask you to please leave" and then reiterate "please leave." If the tranny insists to play, just ask "Why? You don't seem like you're enjoying it. And this is just meant to be a game for fun." then if the tranny makes bullshit claims/excuses/promises just say "Well I apologize but from what I've seen I just don't believe this is going to work out." and firmly un-invite the tranny. Stick to your guns.
If you handle it politely and calmly like a mature adult, then a tranny explosion will backfire on the tranny anyhow and you can likely salvage your group without the tranny.

I'm letting my neurotic side show here because that's kind of the thing on these boards, but I keep it majorly on the DL in person. Probably to a bad degree, where people genuinely have no clue that something's up with me and the perceived slights are mostly in my head. By "really want them to like me" I pretty much meant "Hey maybe having a friend will give me a reason to get up in the morning." While it's true that working out my issues through fantasy arpeegee rather than seeing a therapist is likely unhealthy, it's the best that I've got right now.

For fuck's sake, don't actually do this. This is how disagreements are solved among men, not among mentally ill leftists. The tranny obviously has more social pull in the group, meaning he'll instantly start blackmailing the other players into condemning anon as well (likely behind his back, after the session is over. Hell, he's probably doing it right now in preparation to expel anon from the group). Since the tranny seems to have more social pull, the other players will obey and abandon anon, likely on not hostile terms, but would YOU want to keep being friends after a betrayal like that?
If you actually want to reclaim the group, you will need to do a lot of work and play dirty, as in beat the tranny at his own game and simply get the other players to like you better – spend time with them outside the game, chat, go bowling or whatever, without ever mentioning that the tranny pisses you off unless they directly ask, and even then play it down so that you seem like the bigger man. Come showdown when the tranny makes his move, he'll find out his social pull is actually inferior to yours and that he is considered the bad guy in the confrontation, leading to him being expelled from the group and likely from all your lives (since trannies and faggots like to issue ultimatums "it's either me or him!" which is a surefire way for them to burn all bridges and look like complete tosspots). It's not easy, it's very underhanded, but it works and will lead to you actually deepening your friendships with the people around you. In the future, remember not to allow such people into your life in the first place so that you don't need to do this.

I wouldn't even mention tranny pissing you off. If tranny has too much pull, and they know you don't like tranny, they could be trying to feed the little creep information to use later. These people are just DYING to destroy your life over some feigned offense.
I'd cut my losses.

Oh they'll definitely feed the tranny information, but the key point is that it won't matter. If everybody sees things are tense between you two and ask you why, it's better to calmly explain your side of the story (even playing things down a bit) rather than pretend the issue doesn't exist – your friends will appreciate your honesty and keep your version in mind, making them more resistant to tranny's lies. And if the tranny learns of it, what can he do? Nothing worse than he was already doing, since you weren't lying or exagerrating so he can't use it against you.
>These people are just DYING to destroy your life over some feigned offense.
Indeed they are. In their eyes, you're the arch nemesis that needs to be defeated. Luckily for you, these freaks, like all leftists, rarely form actually deep bonds – their whole lives are superficial, and so are their relationships. Where you try to win the war by being a better friend and doing fun things together, he tries to win with guilt tripping and slander, with the occassional video game session thrown in. It's a fight you will win if you put in enough effort, since doing fun things together and being a good pal always beats some freak's smear campaign.
Plus, you'll get to get your laughs later learning that the tranny stews in hate over it forever. I've recently learned that three fags that I've met (and apparently mortally offended somehow) five or six years in the past still sperg out in anger whenever I'm mentioned. Meanwhile I don't even remember their names – just vaguelly recall there was someone like that.

They took all day to respond to my text, and when I asked the following day why they said they couldn't hang if that wasn't true, they replied "Oh I thought I had class but the traffic was real bad so I just went home." Even if that's true, it means they actively hit up other people to say hey come over while not sparing me a second thought.

That's pretty much where I'm at in my thinking now. The only reason I'm gonna stick out one more session is because a couple good lads who haven't played in over a decade have joined the group, and I wanna give them at least one good session before they leave overseas for a month. Hearing the tranny's bullshit firsthand will inform them on the current state of the hobby as well.
I'm considering letting one of them make a complete madlad character as a one-off and watching xer squirm as I let him get away with all the shit that I always tell them is outside the bounds of reason.

Don't be a full-on troll. Dicking around is good and fine but make sure it's all in a spirit of good fun and goofing off. Do not have them instigate conflict inside the playgroup. If you're deliberately trying to start shit at the table it's obviously going to go south and no one wins.

He won't squirm, he'll start a fight. These people are very vocal about things that displease them. If you want to laugh with your pals at an angry tranny, go for it, but if they don't appreciate this kind of amusement, it likely won't be fun for anyone involved.

The Theros block in MTG, sepcifically the sets Theros and Born of the Gods had some autopilot decks like "challenge the hydra" and "challenge the minotaur horde." Each one flipped a card each turn, then played a certain number of other cards from the deck or did other actions depending on what it flipped.
Just ask some of your coworkers to play, dude. You can have a fun TTRPG session with literally one other person.
