Little question regarding orcs.
The term from which it is derived, "orcneas", is first mentioned briefly in Beowulf. The term isn't elaborated on much, and is of disputed translation, but a common theme is that it has something to do with the underworld. Klaeber's interpretation draws from possible Latin roots, and refers to the corpses of the underworld.
In Tolkein's works, Sauron raises massive armies of orcs. Orcs were said to be made from captured, corrupted elves, and one of Sauron's many titles was "necromancer".
The orcs we see in fantasy today often tend to be the oafish green mammal-things we've grown attached to, mortal and red-blooded. But were orcs originally meant to be some form of undead? And are there any modern works that explicitly interpret orcs as such?

That's actually not far from what Orcs are IMC.
Essentially, Orcs were formerly a race of humans who were twisted and corrupted with dark magics by the Demon Prince of the Undead and founder of necromancy, Orcus. They have pretty much lost all humanity and any ability to employ magic with the exception of necromantic magic. Their alignment is Lawful Evil as a result of their ordered and structured existence, giving Orcus an edge over his rivals and their completely chaotic forces.
They're bigger and stronger than men, though not universally stupid; the smarter ones are quite like those of LOTR, with the added advantage of their magical powers. They're industrious, and employ undead servants to power that industry. Of course, that mostly remains within Thanatos, where the greater portion of them live. Those wandering the Prime Material are pretty much disconnected from their glorious leader and, though dangerous, are incapable of massing armies or forming a truly great threat beyond individual settlements.

what if that's how they work? orc males and females don't live with together, and only breed with each other out of necessity. instead they look for mates in the other races, because it wouldn't matter what the other parent is, the baby is still going to be an orc, and they would most likely raise the children better.

Not a lot, Orcs mature and breed faster than humans, have regional variants and black Orcs, with half-Orcs intermingled between savage and orderly backgrounds, average D&D stuff.
One might note they've got more hair pores on average and are often hairier, even in places uncommon to hair.
But I honestly, have not spent too much time on Orc ecology, so I can't really add anything to the mix.
I- I think it's possible, but what are the results of Collective offpsring of Hobgoblin, Orc, Bugbear, and Half Orc? There's got to be some mixing there which might be interesting, and I like to know what happens when you throw blue Ogre mages into the mix.

Depends on what you consider to be the differences between ogres, ogre mages and oni. Oni can be sprits/outsiders/whatever you want to call yokai who tempt people into sin and are especially common in places where the local religions value ascetic virtues, but also creatures of this world living in a particular region, and may or may not be normal ogres with a different name and skin tone. Personally, I prefer the former. Ogres are simply the least members of giantkind and tend to be rather indulgent. Ogre mages can be a mix of the two, the result of large amounts of interbreeding between the two groups.
Meanwhile, hobgoblins and bugbears are actually larger and more powerful goblinoids.
I can probably write something up regarding the issue, but I'd need to know what way you swing when it comes to the five species.

Eh, if I recall the Ogre mages/Oni were made due to some guy falling from heaven or some shit and the kids spawned from 3 brothers of this dude were oni, I think. It's not the l5r Oni anyway, but ogre mages, which were blue, green and red? It's been a while since I read the article.
I mean, I'd figure Bug-bear + something gives more chance and wolverine styled hair/being harier and stockier, Ogre mage makes them taller, stronger, and gives them horns, but It's best to check what half- templates exist and see how they apply to the races based on prior examples of half-races made from templates.

Half-Ogres exist in the Complete Book of Humanoids and Races of Destiny: in both cases they're a race and not a template. According to the Complete Book of Humanoids Ogre Mages are either light blue, light green or pale brown. A half-hobgoblin can be found in the Kingdoms of Kalamar Player's Guide. Can't find the other ones as true races or templates on short notice.

The 3.5 book notes Half-Ogres are made in the same vein as human-half-orc tribes, but the unofficial Bastards and Bloodlines had Half-Ogres as either human/ogre or orc/ogres it seems.
Guess this will have to do, so it's a variant of Half-Ogre.

Orkz are really disturbing when you look at them from an in-universe standpoint. People are creeped out by the 'nids because they NOM everything, but while Orkz may not eat entire planets alive, the destruction they bring is purely for its own sake. I mean, the Tyranids eat to survive and evolve, but the Orkz just ruin stuff for shit and giggles.

Yeah, going through Bastards and Bloodlines there's some interesting and kinky things in there. Half-ogres are born by ogres breeding with humans or orcs, but if an ogre mage breeds with an elf you get something else entirely.
Goblinoids meanwhile can breed with many things if the sizes match up: goblins with gnomes or halflings, hobgoblins with dwarves (somehow) and bugbears, who'd you expect to be able to breed only with the stronger humans and orcs, can breed only with elves. But elves get fucked by all sorts of things in this book, just like dwarves.

"Most curious is the natural tendency towards military organization among various races with one another. While Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, Ogres, Hobgoblins, and even some minor Giant tribes have absolutely no relation on genetic level, they all bizarrely share a language (that is, Orcinoid/'Brutish') despite many of them being indigenous to entirely seperate continents. Many have attempted to reason why this may be the case, but even Orcish leaders can offer little explanation save for instincts and deep cultural mores - where we may have some racial stereotypes associated with, say, elves, such as their skill with a bow, this group of species seems to have a similar set of assumptions simply for greaater ease of forming effective military organization. Group any ten individuals from these races (commonly called Brutes) aand they will become a modertely effective military strike force.
"Some elder scholars point out that all these species have had contact in the past, thaanks to various and bridges, and that it is relatively possible to create races tht breed true via magic. They further theorize that perhps these races were created with the intent of building a self-sufficient army that required little organization or management. Simply breed a sufficiently large force, tell the one that winds up in charge your target, and observe results. While the idea is interesting, there are no signs of any magically capable cultures in this proposed 'homeland' of the Brutes. In fact, it is notable for this lack, the entire continent seemingly wiped entirely clean of any viable magical bloodlines, artifacts, ruins, or even contamination."
- Elder Urgal, last known researcher of the subject of the origin of Orcs. His book, On The Topics Of Tribes, was his final, and only published work.

They are a mix of Spartans and Aztecs. Most Orcs are civilized and able to contain their rage well enough to develop functioning society. Outlets for Orcish rage are gladiator fights, sports games, and friendly wars between warlords. They are slightly behind technologically behind others, but make up for it with numbers, durability, and tenacity. Their magic mostly centers among shamanistic traditions and is tied with religious beliefs.
>Goblins
Goblins are basically crafty and greedy goblins. They like to use highly combustible oil to power their bizarre devices and it is a significant part of their economy. Goblin's inventions let them wage war in very unconventional ways. They have little regard for environment, aesthetics, or religion. They are also one of two races crazy or blasphemous enough to attempt to combine magic and tech.

I like the classics. I make them barbarians that adapt to the culture they invade yet they have a full meritocracy and some sort of grecoroman government.
They are shamans and worship nature in a primitive way, but they feel annoyed if any hippie, druid or elf complain about destroying nature or killing animals. For orcs, there is nothing more natural than death and breeding as all animals do it in some way or another.
They are not evil, yet not good. For my orcs might makes right, also dirty tricks. Still, even if they don't mind playing dirty, betrayers and traitors don't live long among orcs. A ruler would execute anyone who betrayed the former boss even if he helped him mostly because if that guy betrayed his former boss, why wouldn't do it to him? For that reason few orcs make oaths or promises they can't fulfill.
Goblins are little cousins of orcs and are scared yet dangerous creatures. They hang out in places where other races can't reach like caves or swamps or just live as second class tribe members for orcs. They are scavengers and don't mind opening graves just to steal anything shinny. They are basically greedy little green magpies.

I'm working on an orc/goblinoid themed setting based on a mix of the US expansion across north american and Colonial Africa. The basic gist is that for centuries the Orcish hordes and tribes that plagued human civilization were of generally unknown origin - they came from mysterious and uncivilized lands that were vaguely known to exist but were entirely unexplored. Come the age of exploration the Orcish continent is properly discovered and work immediately begins on taming the land not only for human gains but also to put the Orc threat in check. The various human kingdoms and empires achieve varying levels of success. The two best off being the not-British East India Company which has become a state-power in its own right and which at the main point in the settings time line is itching for independence from it's parent nation so it no longer has to obey international trade treaties or domestic trade regulations it had no part in signing or writing (there should be no taxation without representation, after all) and a fully independent half-orc empire which was granted independence on the condition it allow itself to by monarchically ruled by a figure whose basically a fusion between the first and second emperors of Mexico - a full blooded human from the old-world but with a deep patriotic love for his empire, it's people and culture who is seeking to assimilate himself with his people by taking a she-orc as his empress (and thus producing a half-orc royal line).
Surrounding these two major, if very young, powers are the various uncivilized tribes and clans of goblins, orcs, ogres and trolls who stalk the expansive plains and deep jungles of the continent and find themselves being played against one another in endless proxy wars over the fate of the continent. Other human colonies exist but I havent' given them much thought since I want to focus more on the dynamic between the Human centric not-Anglo-America and the Orcish not-Mexico and their presence is felt mostly in the way of their tribal proxies and the mercenary auxiliaries that they provide.

Depends. The isolated Orc strongholds fit your description, but Orcs in the ranks of the Imperial Legion enjoy a relatively high status, and Orcish blacksmiths are supposed to be one of the best in their trade.

Most defining feature for a fantasy orc/goblin would be tolkien's which are just deformed elves. best example is john howe's drawings.
but over time orc branched out to multiple classifications to differentiate themselves from the tolkien ones, the results are akin to untreated syphillis.
Brutes = Warhammer orcs has a subrace called shreks which are just big green dudes.
Porno orcs (Porcs?) = designed for sexual gratification, Warcraft orcs are forever trapped in this category.
Tryhards = could range from "Look at me, orcs are now noble race with native american steampunk!" to "I reskinned tyranids into orcs"
Very prevalent in homebrews will almost always be shreks.
My orcs are stuck on porno orcs and tryhards.

There's several options out there:
- Orc Classic, aka Tolkienian orcs. Look nasty, act nasty. The oldest of them tend to be shorter and a bit less physically adapt than humans, but through guile and numbers they are quite the threat. Found in LotR and early tabletop gaming.
- Apelike. Built like gorillas they tend to be violent and dangerous. The Warhammer Orcs/Orks fit this category, as well as early Warcraft orcs.
- Honorable Savage. A more modern take, often making them rather spiritual. Later Warcraft orcs, as well as Elder Scrolls orcs and later D&D orcs, fit in this spectrum.
- Pig-orcs. Popular in Japan because of how they were portrayed in the first editions of D&D. Can sometimes be very lecherous, often appearing in hentai.
- Half-orcs. Sometimes the interbreeding of humans and orcs, sometimes they're just green humans. The prettiest of the bunch.
- The rest. A mix of tryhards, snowflakes and reskins. Most of them don't work.

Like pretty much all fantasy races, Orcs simply are humans with exaggerated human features - muscular to the point of absurdity, typical dumb bullies, often largely hairless much like the regular macho man, etc.
IIRC Tolkien, who is the father of modern Orcs, famously said "We're all Orcs in the Great War", that is WW1. It may be argued that the point he was trying to bring across was that the Orcs are not inherently evil but driven to evil by their slavemasters, but the dehumanization the soldiers faced in the trenches - both physical from wounds and mental from trauma - could be said to resemble that of Elves turned to Orcs: They became ugly, muscular, and often featured heightened and irrational aggression because their minds never quite left the trenches.

Also, the cosmetics of Jackson's movies is the best thing about them, including the orcs and trolls.

If more people put effort into making goblins exotic instead of going “REEE Orks and Gobbos are SUPPOSED to look like vomit-inducing fugly monsters” to cover up their lack of drawing ability and/or irrational hatred of sexy art, I wouldn’t roll my eyes everytime that happens.

Dragonlance did half-goblins as overconfident folk who seek to combine the strength of their goblin and human heritage to eventually unite the two races and create an environment where all of them can prosper. It's a nice break from the angst that comes with being a half-orc or a half-elf. Half-orcs are aliented for their brutishness or weakness by humans and orcs respectively and they're not likely to be very willing to be in a romatic relationship, but if you do manage to seduce one you'll have a loyal and loving partner for life who might have issues regarding jealousy and low self- esteem. Half-elves meanwhile have trouble fitting in anywhere and live on the road, not seeking to fit in anywhere. If they agree to a sexual liason you can expect them to love you and leave you, and if you want to stick with them you'll have to tag along for the rest of your life and have to deal with the honey in every port that said half-elf has. Meanwhile, the half-goblins don't care about this stuff and will bang you because humanity and goblinkind, fuck yeah.
I know that half-ogres have received several writeups (including in Dragonlance), but I don't know about half-trolls.

>half-goblins just look like taller goblins
And half-orcs are just scrawnier orcs constantly wangsting about trite shit. If anything I bet that a mixed-ancestry goblin is more easily distinguishable from a pure one than is the case with orcs (assuming all traits are codominant as usual.)
>mix them with other things than orcs and humans if you want them actually look unique
Not necessarily, depending on how “out-there” the design of the base goblin is for a given setting. Besides that, I’ve always preferred to put emphasis on fantasy races acting different and/or having specific social niches in a mixed society as a way to distinguish them. The Dragonlance half-goblins are an excellent example (thanks to everyone that pointed them out); half-breeds that take pride in their status and are attempting to reconcile their parent’s races on a mass-scale because they think that blending the two completely will produce a higher species to build off what their ancestors built separately? It’s great, it’s a launchpoint to intrigue and adventure, it’s something fairly unique, a lot of fantasy half-breeds admittedly have motives along the same direction, but only in the half-baked and maudlin “oh why can’t my two people’s Kumbaya and stop persecuting me?” kind of way. I’ve been sketching out a homebrew setting for a while now with goblins and half-goblins in a prominent position, and stuff like that is what I’m trying to do to make them stand out.
>have a half-goblin smith

I think that’s a fantastic concept that can be a lot of fun to play around with if a creator cares to put that much thought to the genetics of his races, though you should be careful not to make the hybrid unrecognizable to its progenitors. I myself am experimenting with that on my homebrew half-goblins after reading about ligers and tigons. Tl;dr goblin mothers pass on a height inhibitor that causes their descendants to not grow taller than around 5 feet, while goblin fathers tend to sire sons with borderline gigantism.

No.362424
>>362422 (checked)
That's a pretty interesting take. The reverse of ligers/tigons might be true with human/orc hybrids given that humans are the smaller one here: with a human mother the child will be smaller than your average orc while an orc mother produces children that are larger than average orcs. Then of course you have stuff like human/dragon matings, where the human mother will produce children that are the half-dragons of D&D, but matings where the mother is a dragon might result into dragons that are more human in shape when discounting all the magical properties like shapeshifting.
Of course, it gets even more complicated when you start to factor in things like litigons (female tigon + male lion), but let's keep it simple for now.

That should never be anything but an outlier, throwing away the major traits of a race for something so far removed destroys the very point in a distinct race, that being a central series of traits that define them apart from others, nothing against Orcs having wise-folk but it needs to be tied back into the themes of the race as a crude folk, shamans, druids, animism, that sort of thing as opposed to book-learning and such.
Otherwise all you've got is a green elf.

Nah, I'm not really talking about smart orcs. I like the idea of the dumb savage orc having an interest in stuff that requires smarts. They would not be good at it but still try because it's useful to know things like magic and politics. You'd play it for comedy where they struggle to wrap their orky minds around concepts that require more nuanced thinking. It just tickles me to imagine the horde got rekt by some humans using clever strategy, so the warchief has them raid a library and then these fuckhueg barbarians are going through piles of books trying to understand how literature works.

Some dweeb with the self-esteem of a loaf of bread is constantly being bullied by a girl from another class (the eponymous Nagato), with Nagato's facial smugness levels during the act of bullying reaching heights that should not be possible in a universe with only three dimensions.
The joke is that bullying him is Nagato's twisted version of affection, and she gives some of her friends who try to bully her "sempai" the same was as she does a yandere death stare. Pic related.

That sounds like a challenge.
While debatable by taste, the bit of /monster/'s writefagging I've read makes lewd ass images into heartfelt doki doki wholesome tales.
Sunstone, a comic of a bdsm couple coming together, did a good job of that.
Lemonfont's Shapeshifter exploded for that reason. In retrospect it was an 'ok' tale in a sea of mediocrity.
To a far lesser extent that Final Fantasy that introduced the bunny gals. More implied eroge, but the idea is still there.
Plenty of examples in Eastern settings, but they translate poorly to our markets for Westerners prefer a seperation of plot and 'Plot'.
Also depends on if you consider lewd cheesecake and an implied or explicit OK from the creator at the same level as actual porn. Nier Automata, Warframe, Wakfu fall into this.

Had this idea for the Greenskins in my setting and I'd like to listen to any ideas you guys would have to expand on it
>God of War thinks the current world is too peaceful
>Unleashes a new species of sentient moss that quickly covers rocks and molds the rocks into semi-humanoid shapes
>Moss hollows out the inside of the rock and returns inside of it during the day, comes back out at night to raid, at which point they basically act like Mad Max War boys.
>Not only do these green skins have stone-skin toughness, they also have regenerative moss that can move on it's own to make weapons hit the stone instead of the moss
>God of War is also a god of fire, thinks it would be hilarious if they suicidally worship.
I just really like the idea of combining Regenerative Trolls, Ogres who turn to Stone during the day, and Suicidal Fire Worshipers.

>>Not only do these green skins have stone-skin toughness, they also have regenerative moss that can move on it's own to make weapons hit the stone instead of the moss
I don't see the point of the moss moving to avoid blows, since
1) it can regenerate
2) it's presumably covering all of the stones so a bit of damage here or there wouldn't matter much
3) it's presumably some kind of network-based or distributed organism (since the moss on one body acts as a unit), so cutting or bashing some here or there is pretty negligible as long as it forms mostly a single piece
4) this race is already OP given regen from moss + DR from stone + probably extreme fecundity + blitzy tactics + hard to find during the day
IMO it's also just cooler to describe fighting these things where hits strip a bit of moss from the stone and they turn from green to gray during a fight.
The idea is pretty neat though. Sounds too powerful for a normal PC race. Would make a pretty good campaign dealing with these things showing up suddenly. I may try to stat them for Pathfinder and Fantasy Craft later. Their culture needs to be fleshed out a bit though. What's this war/fire god like?

It'd make more sense for these things to actually be lichen not moss. Moss needs sunlight and can't transfer nutrients or other material, being non-vascular. Lichens are often colloquially known as mosses, though. Lichens are a composite organism made of fungus and photosynthetic bacteria. Some fungi are known to break down stone, and some autotrophic bacteria use a source of energy other than photosynthesis (chemical energy or geothermal energy). If the fungus breaks down the rock using an exothermic reaction or produces chemical waste that the bacteria could use, then boom we have a plausibly functioning lichen. If the rocks are also the energy source, then we have a reason for them to attack settlements too. They'll eventually eat through the rocks they're using, so they have to find more to eat and use for their bodies. And they prefer cobblesone for the variety in "nutrition" and shape.
Expect these things to wander into town and start tearing up your roads and buildings to assimilate the stonework. If you knock off some pieces of the lichen watch out. It may attach to the nearby stone, growing on the inside and eating it hollow. Then one day it will spring up and walk away.

>There are no known visual depictions of Anal sex between pederastic couples, though this does not prove the behavior did not occur. Some vase paintings, which Percy considers a fourth type of pederastic scene in addition to Beazley's three, show the erastês seated with an erection and the erômenos either approaching or climbing into his lap. The composition of these scenes is the same as that for depictions of women mounting men who are seated and aroused for intercourse.[78] As a cultural norm considered apart from personal preference, anal penetration was most often seen as dishonorable to the one penetrated, or shameful,[79] because of "its potential appearance of being turned into a woman" and because it was feared that it may distract the erômenos from playing the active, penetrative role later in life.[80] A fable attributed to Aesop tells how Aeschyne (Shame) consented to enter the human body from behind only as long as Eros did not follow the same path, and would fly away at once if he did. A man who acted as the receiver during anal intercourse may have been the recipient of the insult "kinaidos", meaning effeminate.[81] No shame was associated with intercrural penetration or any other act that did not involve anal penetration.[82] Oral sex is likewise not depicted,[need quotation to verify] or directly suggested, anal or oral penetration seems to have been reserved for prostitutes or slaves.
Their connection was an emotional one, not a sexual one. At least by recorded history. Considering this from wikipedia, where they'd want to imply such degeneracy, I find the article on the matter oddly trustworthy in this statement. Also Athens cut that shit out when it started its self reflection and philosophy.

Think I finally figured out why your drawings bug me a bit.
You don't 'do' fat. It's all muscle. Yes it's anatomically correct, but it doesn't feel right. The six pack is perfectly defined, rather than partly subtle. It's a woman meaning an inherent extra layer of padding to support children, yet the troll here is carved in testosterone. Yes there are breasts, though they're way larger than they should be.
In my opinion.

No thats accurate, I didnt start drawing women till this past year or so outside of faces. So I just used my experience of drawing big Conan esque guys and applied it to drawing muscle women. I definitely need more practice with drawing the female form.

Keep working on the faces. The anatomy and minor stylistic choices I get, but there's something about the way you draw faces that's really off putting.

Now that I think about it, wouldn't orcs of either sex have really high test compared to humies? Wouldn't they be extra horny?

When you think about it, orcs are just ogres. I mean the classic every day conception of an ogre, not the more recent tabletop versions. And even they are pretty close to orcs as well, just dumber and larger

It's easier to animate and frame jerking a cock than fingering a pussy. Bigger parts are much easier to frame and generally more visually appealing since you can see detail/texture while also seeing the rest of the body (like an optical illusion of zooming or gett6closee to the body part in focus). Futa are very popular too, since men evolved to treat erect penises as an arousal cue (if another man is having sex around here I should be ready too). Animated porn takes time that live action doesn't, so animators will trend toward whatever gets the most patreon bux. If that includes a counterintuitive huge cock then that's what the market and psychology gives you.

Hey, sorry for being an absolute dickwad but I have a MIGHTY need for a portrait, you guys seem to have a lot of shit about orcs/ogres/big guys so may as well ask.
Does any of you happen to have a big guy (human preferable) in a post-apocalyptic setting, with "scrapper" qualities?
Basically, I am making a Scrapper in Degenesis who is a huge dude with 4 body, 4 Toughness, 3 Force at character generation and I could really use a proper portrait, the one I have now is just a guy covered as some sort of wasteland raider than wasteland scrapper.
All scrappers I ever find are thin guys/chicks that have the dumbass "cool look", wearing impractical shit for the sake of being the "le so quirky scavenger xD".
I just want a picture of a big guy, preferably face covered by a gas mask or something that looks like a scavenger.
Sorry for intruding but I guessed if any could've had such a picture it could be you
>inb4 go check portrait thread

Eh, more like they're the very top of the foodchain, creatures living on the top of power, with anything they desire at their grasp.
It's hardly a surprise that they indulge themselves. If they want something, they need simply to take it, after all.
