What do you think about Emacs, Terry? A video in which you showed how the command line and file editing in TempleOS were handled by the same editor reminded me of Emacs, which gives you the same kind of flexibility, although it doesn't go quite as far. Was Emacs an inspiration for your editor?

Since this seem to be the "Ask Terry" thread, I'll ask my question. What do you think about ARM, are you interested in it?

I'm an intermediate Unix person, not a beginner but not a zealot.

I never used emacs. Commodore 64 is my inspiration, mostly.

The Commodore let you move up from the bottom of the command line and edit BASIC programs.

I decided to specialize in my career. I do things before the Internet.

I'll leave ARM to someone else.

Hey Terry, could you post a picture of your rig? I'm curious to see what your setup is for developing TempleOS.

Nothing special – just a Dell desktop I bought 2 years ago. Core i7 3.4Ghz 4 cores.

I have a medium sized monitor. My OS is only 640x480, so lost interest in big monitors.

20 Looking at his disciples, he said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.

23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.

24 “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

They have agents that fuck with me when I go into stores and shit – trying to annoy and get in my way. They parade kids to see if I am a pedophile. They use the radios, "Terry, it's the radio talking. Take your meds because you are delusional."
Yeah, killed a CIA nigger with my car – aliens and shit. Deserved it.

Emacs is a programmable lisp virtual machine, not a text editor.

You could make an editor that the user could program while using it, but I don't think doing that in a dialect of C would be easy (recompile and reexec while keeping your current work). it can only be done easily and elegantly with a virtual machine.

could templeOS handle a lightweight emacs-like with its own lightweight VM and scripting language?

I thought it was an editor war between VI and EMACS. It's nothing I care about.

You can extend my editor with HolyC functions.

Ironically enough what concerns me about Emacs is it's limitations, limitations of elisp to be more exact. I'm not convinced that elisp is good enough to the point of building a pseudo-OS with today.

Guile (scheme) offers a faster and more powerful language which will hopefully be integrated into Emacs with GuileEmacs project. But I don't know much about these things.

fucking idiots. elisp is the superior language. dynamic binding is better than lexical. it was a mistake to add lexical binding and closures to elisp. elisp is very close to an ideal language, the mail limitation being speed.

I'm not the only Emacs user that is waiting for Guile integration. I think it makes sense. I would really like to see a modernized Emacs Lisp.
