 No.1825 [View All]

I love terry and yet he never even knew my name or that I existed. Sure, we interacted a bunch of times over the years. but I was just a faceless name among the thousands that admired him, laughed at his crazy antics or shitposted in his chats for some kind of reaction.

I don't need to talk too much about his programming, those who get it get it. But Terry was more than a programmer. He was a biblical devotee and a composer. He produced works to glorify god with all of his humanity, creativity and skills. I urge you all to do the same. Terry's life goal was to create Gods 3rd temple here on earth. I believe he accomplished that with TempleOS.

This death was made much harder on us than it had to be. We collectively went through a 3 day period of denial. Somebody joked that he might be resurrected at the end. Instead of we got confirmation from a police officer that he was struck by a train.

But what I remember is having a friend. Listening to his stories about the MIT that just didn't get it boasting about their coredumps when they couldn't even implement a triangle fill. Attending his divinations, where he'd open the bible at a random page and read from it. Laughing with him as he sent bombastic threatening messages to the CIA email address. Or having my lunch with him through the computer screen, while he got cheeky and ordered extra bacon in some diner at the outskirts of the city in those first few days of being homeless.

I'll think about you a lot Terry. I'll keep talking to god and keep him entertained.

I'm copying a beautiful post made by a /christi-an/on:

>>>/tech/963820

"A message in the name of /christian/ for the people of /tech/:

We all loved Terry for entirely different reasons, which is why we do not regard ourselves competent to comment on his programming related legacy. Rest assured however that we are as struck by these terrible news as you must be; What consoles us however is the fact that he in his continuous dialogue with the divine received for his piety and fortitude in faith the graces necessary to be converted in desire to the one true and apostolic catholic church, which is a faith he confessed to his audience during the last weeks of his life;

And as the Lord states in Matthew 10:32: "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven."

There is absolutely no question that with him a great human treasure is lost in the light of the talents bestowed upon him; Beyond this he was a very lovely individual, mature yet innocent and pure in his own way, with a witty remark always at hand. Due to his extraordinary life circumstances he saw the world like no one else did, his illness was a cross to bear, yet a blessing and a gift to all men that were able to take inspiration from his unique perspective.

I am sure we all wish he had come to even greater fruition as much as that the Terry show never really came to a conclusion, It almost seems he was too interesting of a man to die a meaningless death, though we may not realize the full scheme of things. In Terry we lost a teacher, an idol, and for some a mere madman, but in any case and this no one can deny, we lost a Legend.

May God grant you eternal delight in his embrace, Amen.

Godspeed Terry."

I never knew Terry personally, nor I have talked with him on the Internet.

I knew about his daily quests with the videocasts and memes on 4chan's /g/ imageboard. It's been 2 years I've been following him expecting he would make TempleOS a whole lot better and would have loved to see him get hired by some modern tech company because Terry had a really down-to-earth human idea of what are computers. A really skilled man, out of this world. He didn't belong to any fad, any brand, any tags. He had his unique vision of things.

When he started broadcasting on the streets I didn't like it one bit. USA is pretty rough and the most disgusting things happen there. It's a shame he couldn't get out of homeless status despite people from /g/ helping with money and other things.

However, I don't have anything more to say. It's a shame to see a genuine good person (he wasn't an evil man) to go away. A man with great potential and more human than anyone.

Even if he had trouble to socialize in real life, he was very kind with people on the Internet and that's admirable.

I guess we sympathise with Terry because most of us are social outcasts and we all have wanted to have his unique skill to create things. Or maybe that's just me.

Rest in Peace Terry. Who knows, maybe your spirit is reading this and we will meet you someday.

We are all Terry.

I vaguely followed Terry's videos on /g/ over the past few years and watched a few of his livestreams.

I'm surprised at how much his death got to me. As Nicolás says above, I think a lot of us share common ground with Terry.

It's not quite GodWords, but I made a markov chain with markovify and gave it closed captions data from 500 Terry videos.

Sometimes when Terry was streaming, I would pester him in the chat to try and get him to take care of himself. When he would ignore that, I started posting twitter messages tagging Diana, which he would see as he searched her name. I once told him to 'take his licks'. He spoke it out loud on the stream and giggled about the phrase, before reassuring me he was taking care of things. I was just a nameless face to him, but miss him. I hope he didn't suffer.

Terry used https://glot.io/snippets/ee0wr83j7k to communicate with god.

I'm using default markovify and this auto transcribed data http://0x0.st/svw3.txt

Maybe someone could figure out how to use the shuf output from his script as markov seeds? That might ensure better communication.

I remember when Terry was demonstrating his transformation functions making a hymn, he wanted to draw a key and make it change to a brain. He draws the key and I type something like "I won't say it looks like a dick". The damn thing was just like a kiddish sketch of a penis. Terry looks at the chat and goes "wut, fuck you, it doesn't look like a dick", and then he just laughs and starts fixing the damn key. I miss that comfy live streams he used to make from his house. It's sad that things gone this way, I wish Terry had never left his home. I think he was a good person, very intelligent and capable, but troubled by a unbeatable disease.

I only had a couple actual interactions with Terry. One time he was live streaming, I asked a dumb question about what kind of hardware you need to run TempleOS on bare metal. I think he was about to go on a rant about how dumb my question was, but it didn't escalate. Another time, I sent him an email basically asking if C++ and OpenGL are for niggers. He actually replied, saying that, as a kid in the 80s, you would have used 6502 assembly to make a line draw. In hindsight, I was mainly just interested in the novelty of getting a response from him of some kind, not really in his programming and philosophical wisdom. I wish I had done so many things differently now. He wanted to help people see computers the way he did, to teach them, but I took it for granted. It wouldn't be long before he was no longer live streaming, and he basically stopped using email after he went homeless. I had no idea how lucky I was in that moment to be able to interact with Terry. I've had nobody in my life to act as any kind of mentor in the field of computers and programming, but Terry sure came close. Now I can either continue to lament all the things I never got to learn from him and speak to him about, or I can go forward with what we have. Terry's videos and the code of TempleOS itself have the potential to be analysed for years to come. It's what Terry left us with.

I feel the exact same way, I wish he never got kicked out. But from what I gather he assaulted his dad and hit the road to escape the court, and his mom was beginning to become senile. I think he ended up by his one of his siblings after being on the road for a while? IDK. I guess he couldn't stay and became homeless… final nail in the coffin. His streams while travelling in his car and dancing on parking lots were amazing. I hope some1 archived all his shit, he had a bad habit of deleting his uploads :|

During a stream in March or April 2017, terry got stuck in a thought loop for several minutes. He was having a back-and-forth hypothetical conversation with himself and "frasier" about random numbers. He just kept on repeating the same stuff, and then interjecting with what Frasier's response would be, over and over again.

It's strange to think about how little I know about Terry, considering how often I wind up thinking about the guy. To be honest, I think I only really learned about Terry a few months before he actually died, but I was captivated by the whole idea of a person committed to the idea of merging old-school true devout honest-to-goodness faith with what feels like the more human side of technology and coding, to the point it felt more like building a monument than anything. The truly unique underdog story of wanting to build something, develop something greater than just yourself for a greater purpose than self-glorification, or money, or notoriety or anything like that, despite a world telling you to the exact opposite. God's third temple was the goal, and the fact alone that Terry threw himself at that goal without question using the only tools he had says enough to me about the kind of person he was. Sure Terry gained himself some notoriety, but it was more due to the fact he was willing tell the pope to go and fuck himself because he loves the niggers more than god, and his general philosophy on life and existence. To me, it's pointless to say he did the things he did and said the things he said because he was too crazy, too honest, too smart or was simply more in-tune with Mr. God than the motherfucking pope, because Terry was all of it, and more. Terry left a lot of things behind on this planet, and all that I can hope to do, at least, is keep posting the funny things he said and did so that others might look him up and learn a little about TempleOS and who Terry was. If nothing else, Terry is a truly powerful character and his story's gonna be relevant for a long time after he's gone. I feel like I missed a good friend before I even knew he was there, that must be why it feels so sad even after all this time.

RIP King Terry, I'll be shitposting in your honor for a long time to come.

Terry says in there this line:

>There's some sexual things that make me aroused, what about some humble things that make me humble?

Simple yet deep, it actually helped me to develop a different tactic on dealing with porn. Thanks Terry, you've been a good spiritual guide.
