So why did Mace Windu and Palpatine try to convince Anakin that the other was the traitor to the Republic? Wouldn't it be obvious that Palpatine is, even if Anakin and the Council don't get along?

Palpatine was a father figure, a personal friend and confidant to Anakin. It wasn't easy for him to discard the guy. Add to that the fact of Anakin had premonitions about his wife death, being denied access to the holocrons and receiving that awful, awful advice from Yoda and that like hours before Mace saying to his face that he would his trust if the info about Sidious was right. His relation with the council was strained.

In short, it wasn't that obvious to him to choose Mace over Palpatine.

The Republic of the prequels is rife with issues and corrupt almost to the core. Anakin is acutely aware of this. Starting from that position, it's not that hard to convince oneself that someone who protects the Republic as it is now, corrupt and bloated, is in fact a greater enemy to it than one who breaks its laws with the objective of reforming it. Throw in his personal affection towards Palpatine, and the fact that Windu himself was about to very unlawfully execute Palpatine, and it's not much of a stretch for Anakin to reach the conclusion that he did.

As the other trooper just said, Mace was perfoming an illegal execution, throwing away all the jedi teachings and republic law, so he was also a traitor for trying to depose the lawful authority, actually going to a outright execution and Anakin actually had a line of thought closer to Palpatine in first place.

Who is a traitor? The guy who manipulated the whole process to impose himself as a dictator or the guy who was trying to perform a coup d'etat and executes the other on the spot, throwing by the window all due process and rule of law. Both were traitors. Sidious for transforming the republic in a personal dictatorship and Windu for trying to depose and execute the chancellor on the spot and then put the Senate under their control (How they would justify the execution of the Supreme Chancellor by a small jedi group to the Senate?)

As the novelization puts, was Palpatine a traitor due his religious beliefs? He could be considered a "traitor" by his creation of CIS and the war but for that he would require a trial, proofs and all that. Windu condensed all and decided to kill the guy and not because that, but because "he was too dangerous to be kept alive". And he betrayed the republic even more by considering it corrupt and ineffective ("He control the senate and the courts" ignoring that there was already an opposition, influential enough to fund a guerrila movement later, to Palpatine in the Senate) to the point of deciding throw all law away and kill the guy on the spot.

Anakin knew damn well Palpatine was a traitor which is why his first impulse was to go to Windu, everything after that point was him stewing in his juices until he nerved himself up to betray Windu so that he didn't have Palpatine's offer of Sith Healing pass him by.

Can someone elaborate on the Mandalorians? Are they really a multi-racial thing, and if so, was it always like that? It wasn't like that in KotOR. But I hear that by the film's timeline, that's what they're like. Are there even any Mandalorian-natives left excluding Jango? If that is the case, what happened to them? Where can I learn more/sources?

>>34422

Yes, the Mandalorians are civic nationalism made manifest (see pic in >>33605 ). Neither Jango nor Canderous are truly Mando natives. The original Mandos aren't even human, they're a lizard-like race called the Taung. The Taung lived on Coruscant in the pre-republic era, before war forced them to exodus into what is now called Mandalorian space. It is suggested that they might be Coruscant's true native species, but this is never confirmed. They were still a plurality within Mandalorians at the start of the Mandalorian Wars, but by the time Malachor V got shoa'd they had gone extinct due to heavy combat losses.

>It wasn't like that in KotOR.

It actually was, KotOR and the Mandalorian Wars was when this really got going. That's why it's not uncommon to are human like Canderous in their ranks, although too can assume many of the Mandos in that game are Taung under the mask.

>Where can I learn more/sources?

<Tales of the Jedi comics

Has the original Mando race join the Sith against the Republic some 4000 years before the movies

<Knights of the Old Republic comics

Set one generation later. Covers the Mandalorian Wars. Mandos become enough of a threat to fight the Republic on their own by recruiting from other species. Note: Despite being multi racial at this point, some stories, like Open Seasons, depict them as humans for the most part.

<Jango Fett: Open Seasons comic

How Jango joined the Mandos during the Mandalorian Civil War and later became their leader, and how they met their end at the hand of the Jedi

<Republic Commando novels

About elite Clone Commandos trained by Jango. Covers lots of Mandalorian culture. Note: This is part of the Karen Traviss' biased and contentious Mando lore

<Blood Ties: A Tale of Jango and Boba Fett + Boba Fett is dead

Stories about Boba Fett and his secret non-clone family members, some of which live in Mandalorian space. Somewhat ties into Legacy of the Jedi below

<Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor

Six months after RotJ. Luke and friends team up with Fenn Shysa's Mandos.

<Legacy of the Force novels

Covers the big civil war after the Vong invasion. Basically Corellia vs Coruscant. Subplot is about Boba Fett rejoining the Mandalorians. Part of Traviss' Mando lore like Republic Commando.

>Honorable mentions:

<Marvel Star Wars comics

The pre-EU comics from the 80s had their own version of Mandalorians, which were slowly recanonized in Republic Commando and Shadows of Mindor

<Tales of The Bounty Hunters: The Tale of Boba Fett

Boba's origin story before the Prequels came out: He was a lawman called Jaster Mereel on the planet Concord Dawn. Later recanonized in Open Seasons and Blood Ties

<The Clone Wars CGI cartoon

Basically ignores all of the above

How Palpatine was supposed to be a wrinkled ball back of a face who needed an "alchemical mask" due the dark side… if the guy was basically forced to suppress his use of the dark side for most of his life? For most of his adult life pre-Clone Wars the guy basically doing politics on Coruscant with jedi at his doorstep (the guy many times were side by side with jedi in the same room). Maul spent even more proportional time immersed in the dark side and the maximum he got was bad teeth and yellow eyes. Palpatine rarely channeled dark side energies to suffer physical alterations.

>all the comments saying that scene would have ruined the surprise of the colour when it's revealed on the barge

I think it would have only improved the ominous atmosphere to reveal it then instead. In that state I understand why the scene was cut, since Vader's delivery was too corny and the droids' dialogue did kind of ruin that atmosphere, but I think it would have been better if they'd been able to work a version of the lightsaber aspect into the movie.

Showing Luke with an unprecedented lightsaber colour that's neither the familiar Jedi blue nor Sith red would only have added to the ambiguous tone they set as he arrives at Jabba's palace. By the time it was actually revealed on the barge, that tone was well and truly dispersed. Having it revealed in an action sequence only leaves room for "oh neat, a different colour", whereas having it earlier leaves you wondering what it means.

Of course, it's moot at this point since even those watching for the first time are probably familiar with green lightsabers.

No, a wound in the force is a very rare, very unique, and very dangerous anomaly. It means that the person who is a wound is able to perform actions and wield powers that would kill the average force user if they even attempted it. Nihlus, for example, is able to drain the life from any living thing that the force touches just by existing. He's a dark side black hole that hit critical mass and no longer is a living being at the point you fight him. The Exile on the other hand has an innate ability to control other's influence and perceptions, able to drag them into darkness or bring them into the light.

The Vong are cut from the Force, like blanks. They don't register. A "wound" in the Force isn't cut from it, it consumes it like a black hole, a drain. It's a wound bleeding, distorting everything around. Nihilus was a walking wasteland, the Exile had the same potential of becoming a life devourer. Kreia intented to create a shockwave based in those wounds, this Force fuck ups that everyone would be cut from the Force. The insane part of her plan is that would entail a galactic wide genocide and destruction caused by such rupture in the force.

tl;dr: Wound in the Force = Force/life devouring singularities. Cut from the Force = blank, you don't register, can't access or be affected directly by the Force.

Why does there seem to be an aversion from OT Purists when it comes to exposition? They keep bringing up midi-chlorians as this bad thing that ruins the Force, but from the actual dialogue it's implied that midi-chlorians are simply what they use to measure Force potential, not that the Force came from bacteria. How does that ruin the mysticism of the Force, when it's still a mysterious force that binds all life together? It seems like they have such an attachment to the OT, that they can't except anything that's different and want the same thing over again like the Sequel Trilogy.

OT purists don't like exposition of any kind or immersion. They want to keep everything on a basic level because "mystery" and a desperate need to preserve that piece of their childhood in its most purest and uncompromised form, hence the inherent vitriol and dislike for anything outside the OT, except for TFA which is the only thing they approve of since that's a frame by frame repeat of ANH.
