>"Rian's in the Lucasfilm braintrust group. Everyone at Lucasfilm liked working with him, TLJ went smoothly unlike Rogue One and Solo trainwrecks and J. J. isn't interested in doing Star Wars and spends all his time at Bad Robot"
>"That's why they gave him trilogy. The "slowdown" is literally just going to be 2020 while they do construction at this other studio that isn't Pinewood dedicated to Star Wars. RJ trilogy episode 1 will be released in 2022 and there's nothing anyone can do about it."

It was, but then people started treating it like a whole new epic "realistic" fantasy that made them go
<WOW! This is like Harry Potter for adults!
Rather than realizing that it was just a deconstruction that got its appeal from being raunchy and overly detailed. Hell, half of these shit-eating fanboys shit on Tolkien for reasons that they love Martin, showing that they've never read anything outside of Martin, JK Rowling and Wendig novels (and possibly Ready Player One).

I would rather advise people to read the sagas and stories Tolkien stole his ideas and themes from, or if they want to read phantasy fiction, there is always Robert E. Howard.

You ask too much of modern readers. They can't read anything unless its written in present tense and has lots of "fuck" and "shit" thrown around. They'll only read that shit or anything that's like Harry Potter.

Its not stolen, its more like inspirations and references. Also I'm not gonna stop liking Tolkien because he sees political parallels in his books that aren't evident to regular readers and are practically non-existent to everyone but himself.

>Took linguistic inspiration from real languages, like he took inspiration from Finnish for the Elves' languages

>Gets pissed at the Nazis' twisting and abuse of traditionalism and "northern spirit" for political gain, because he correctly foresaw that once Hitler fell his nonsense would become inseparable from those concepts and that anyone displaying too much European-ness would be condemned by association
Not seeing much wrong with those quotes.
Keep in mind this is the same guy who said it was absolutely impossible that LotR was a metaphor for WWII, because if it had been Saruman would have gotten the Ring and taken over.

Looking at the page, it’s not terrible writing. It seems about average. My main gripe would be that it’s in present tense, which is a bit jarring to meand that the author seems to fall into past tense near the bottomand most authors can’t pull off well.
What else can you tell me about the plot?

Looks like D&D will be making the 2022 Star Wars so what is Rian Johnson doing? Is he just a paid troll supervising Star Wars at this point? The lesser of 2 evils with D&D being the obvious choice over Rian is still evil at the end of it. The era of subverted expectations will at least be going to 2027.

KOTOR doesn't deserve to be canon because of its complete lack of understanding of the Force. Lucas himself stated it. Lucas' biggest problem is his acceptance and push for cheese and low-brow humor, but his symbolism, themes and metaphysics are accurate.

It didn't, though. Chris Avellone doesn't understand that the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force in Star Wars don't function like Good and Evil as conceptualized by Lucas. This is why Kreia is a shit character that's out of place in Star Wars, she's basically a God-hating militant atheist that got butthurt because "muh cruel life" in a world that doesn't really have God.

But anon, that's the point. At the very end on Malachor V a LS Exile beats Kreia because her entire philosophy was wrong. In her final moments, her rhetoric falls into the same dark side trap that the Sith dwell in. She thinks she has gone beyond the dichotomy of the Force, yet she becomes the exact thing that she criticizes as she tells the Exile to strike her down. The same way Sidious told Luke to strike Vader down to take his place.
Kreia falls into the same hole as Revan, Vader did, where they try to use the Dark Side to attain a goal, but are blinded and delude themselves as they become drunk on power. Kreia may use some big-brain 110 IQ philosophical words, but she is more like the Sith buried in the Valley of the Dark Lords that she chides more than she realizes.

I was just about to go to bed, so I don't have the energy to discuss this or anything else at length beyond making a post in the starship thread I intended to make almost a week ago before I got busy with other stuff, but this topic deserves its own thread. This thread is reserved for bitching about Rian Johnson. Kreia's philosophy is very interesting and totally irrelevant to this thread because normalfags don't have the patience or intellect necessary to even have an opinion on it, and it's more complicated and therefore gives more room for multiple views of an issue to have valid points than a piece of full-throated liberal propaganda can allow, which means it won't appear in Rian Johnson's movies.

That goes both ways, the fact that the Force is spiritual doesn't preclude you from examining it in exclusively conceptual ways. There are plenty of theologians, such as Anslem and Thomas Aquinas, whose works examined God almost exclusively from a conceptual perspective, that doesn't mean these people weren't spiritual or invalidated the spiritual aspect of Christianity.

Done well, winter as the enemy in a Middle Ages setting up could work. Winter is comfy for Euros now because it's no longer a threat. We've conquered it, and made it safe, so we can greet it like an old friend. But imagine a story centered around winters that last multiple years , held at bay but not yet truly tamed. It could have been a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the not-Euro Westerosi. They had to be a little lower time-preference, and set aside the Hebraic-tier betrayal and bickering in order to deal with this existential threat.
But no, instead we got Titties and Dragons: Age of Incest.
