Disney slowly stopped being Disney after Walt died, and any trace of its original self completely died after Roy sold out. But even then it wasn't completely terrible, at least until Frozen came around. That's when things truly started to get dark and the buyouts starting increasing. Disney hit it's peak in the 90s, digital tech killed it. Walt had issues, he wasn't perfect but he was all American. He tried to do wholesome content and support his nation. Now it's the complete opposite at Disney. It's just another big company that tries to create a monopoly in every way possible. Well the interview would have been scheduled much earlier than his mom’s death, I’m not sure if she was sick or if it was sudden but I can only say it was his choice or his agent pushed him to go to the interview anyways. Since that was his first acting job in a long time the publicity was pretty important, he may have had to sign a contract before saying he would show up hell-or-high-water, and thus could not get out of it. From the stations pov if he canceled they’d have a big slot of time they’d have to fill with something last minute with no preparation, also they probably just didn’t care, I’m sure they though “oh he’s an actor, his mom died so he’ll just act happy”. Though this is all jus speculation.
