 No.29417 [Last50 Posts]

I couldn't find an appropriate thread to dump this, but at the same time there's already so much Mouse Wars crap cluttering up the board. And it all seems to contain the same kind of discussion anyways. Why not have a containment thread for general Mouse Wars stuff that isn't related to major releases and announcements

Let's start off strong:

https://cosmicbook.news/star-wars-marvel-sales-drop-disney

https://archive.fo/Bd3Cg

Star Wars and Marvel Comics Sales Drop Confirms Disney

>Sales for Star Wars and Marvel Comics-related products are down for Disney's fiscal year ending September 29, 2018 compared to the previous year and even more so compared to two years ago.

>Revenue for the division is down 4% from 2018 to 2017, and down almost 16% from 2018 to 2016. Profits for the two year period are also down nearly 17%. Disney's Consumer Products division is also the only division at Disney to have lost revenue in 2018.

>Worth a mention is that Disney's 2018 fiscal year saw more Star Wars releases than 2017, but the numbers dropped, which we can assume is a huge cause for concern for Disney and is at least part of the reason for the recent changes to the Star Wars film division that sees the movies slowed down.

>Disney also includes numbers comparing 2017 to 2016 in the report, which also saw a drop

>As noted, the report also mentions numerous times drops for Star Wars are to be blamed on the stronger performance of Star Wars: The Farce Awakens in previous years, which proves subsequent Star Wars releases did not hold up.

Disney Course Correction

>I suppose this is just my opinion but as a result of Disney's Consumer Products & Interactive Media and Publishing division not performing favorably (again, it was the only division at Disney to see a revenue loss in 2018), Disney is course correcting as follows

>Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed the Star Wars movies are being slowed down

>Both the Disney+ Star Wars series have male leads, which is opposed to statements made by LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy about not catering to male Star Wars fans in the movies, and it is also the opposite of her "The Force is Female" propaganda campaign

>The Rian Johnson Trilogy is currently not being developed as Johnson is working on other projects. The trilogy is at least placed on the backburner (I think it has been canceled).

>Lower comparable retail store sales reflected decreased sales of Star Wars and Moana merchandise in the current year

>Lower home entertainment revenue was due to a decrease of 16% from a decline in unit sales driven by lower sales of Star Wars Classic titles and the performance of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in fiscal year 2017 compared to the strong performance of Star Wars: The Farce Awakens in fiscal year 2016.

>Lower games revenue was due to the discontinuation of Infinity in fiscal year 2016 and decreased licensing revenue from Star Wars: Battlefront. The decrease at our merchandise licensing business was due to lower revenue in fiscal year 2017 from merchandise based on Star Wars and Frozen

>The decrease at our publishing business was primarily due to lower sales of licensed and self-published books based on Star Wars and Frozen and a decrease in sales of comic books based on Star Wars.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they kind of losing on all fronts here?

Black Panther had a shit ton of celebrity endorsements with many celebrities of all types buying thousands (if not millions) of tickets for members of the black community, ghetto kids and BLM types all across america and beyond and sheeeeit. Another thing of note is that Black Panther for all its faults had a male lead and even the normalfags who loved the movie hated his sister and saw her as forced feminism. So from what's seen, normalfag audiences prefer straight male leads over female ones. And even betafags and shills who loved the fuck out of Black Panther are being very critical of Ms. Marvel or are completely uninterested in what she will bring to the franchise. Also, unlike the rest of the cast of heroes who are based primarily on their best incarnations, Ms. Marvel is based not on the sexy leotard girl but is based on Captain Dyke Marvel from the "New and All-Different" line of comics which are almost universally hated and failing in sales, and even before she became Captain, the character was never as popular as her peers. She's fucked. They already plan to retire the other characters and replace them with their minority incarnations like Black Spiderman, Iron Heart, She-Thor, etc since the old cast is retiring, and they're all guaranteed to fail. So even if future Black Panther films keep doing well, the other new films that are coming to the franchise will never survive. And the MCU brand won't be able to subsist on Black Panther films alone, so the cinematic universe bs will hopefully die out, even if it means having to deal with Black Panther, his obnoxious fans and his equally obnoxious sister…

From normie /tv/, might be fake of course, might not…

>This and Episode 9 are Kennedy's last chances.

>The higher-ups at Disney are fucking pissed at Kennedy for taking such a ballsey risk to betray the original sizable Star Wars fanbase in favor of a potentially bigger market, normalfags and women. Obviously, as we know, her horrible idea blew up in her face and now she's desperately trying to win back the original audience to make sure Episode 9 and The Mandalorian don't flop. If they do, it's the end of the line for her. She's out of second chances and Disney feels like they have been more than leanient with her by letting her extend her contract.

>So what does this mean?

>Basically Lucasfilm is in FULL damage control mode. The Mandalorian firstly, was entirely rewritten before we got the official announcement. Originally cast as a woman, the lead has been changed to Pedro Pascal and the plot has basically been changed entirely. The only things that remain from the original pitched show was the Mandalorian suit, settings, and props that can all find a place in the new version. Astheticaly, the show is going to try to return the SW franchise to the 70s "dirty" look it used to be known for. The old paperback EU vibe.

>As for Episode 9, it was a bit too late to make MAJOR changes, but the ending was definitely changed last minute and I know Kennedy insists that JJ answers critical questions in the trilogy this time. She openly resents Johnson for episode 8 and is sick of the subversive shit he pulled. Expect a greater focus on Kylo rather than Rey, ESPECIALLY in the marketing.

>Disney has also canceled ALL theatrical spinoffs until she is able to prove herself, ironically except for Johnson's Trilogy, which they insist is still made. People are joking that it's to passive agressively jab at Kennedy as she deliberately attempted to tank Solo in an effort to "prove" that people don't want films staring white males anymore (it was her decision to hold off any marketing until the last possible minute and originally releasing it the same week as Infinity War). As you might expext, the mouse wasn't too happy when this idea worked and the movie was a failure.

>Both the Mandalorian and the Cassian Andor shit have Hispanic leads, and no White men as protagonists.

But they're brown men now as opposed to brown women. That's very much a marketing decision, because action movies are male market. See what the guy above said about Niggerman succeeding in theaters despite nonstop poz, because it had a male lead doing traditionally male things.

> I don't know why it's so hard for you all to admit that White genocide is more important to Disney than money.

Disney isn't a single, monolithic entity. Stockholders and the people who directly answer to them generally want money, the women, soyboys and Jews who work in marketing and the creative departments tend to care more about spreading their Bolshevik agenda. There was (and is) some overlap between these two, as many of the bigwigs became convinced that they could turn poz into profit, but after repeated instances of "get woke, go broke" proved evidence to the contrary, a divide started to form between the two, and I have no doubt there's some amount of friction between them now.

Lucasfilm is in damage control mode now, time will tell how successful they are. Normies are easily fooled and have a low attention span, but TLJ really showed a good number of them that the Emperor has no clothes, and did it pretty heavy-handedly too. Some will fall for the meme of JJ saving the franchise, but many will not. There's no good way to tell who outnumbers whom at this point.

However, since the failure of TLJ, the bugman low attention span may actually work in our favor. Given the wealth of mediocre-but-entertaining content out there, once a franchise fails to deliver once normies generally lose interest, because the spell has been broken for them, and will look elsewhere for mindless consumption. That's the reason Soylo failed as hard as it did, and it will definitely be a contributing factor to reduced sales on IX. I won't say IX will bomb, but I think a safe estimate is to say that it won't make more money than TLJ.

And Disney making Star Wars movies people want to see is a victory for you? What a wonderful, lets help the evil corporation make better content to distract the masses with. Absolute retards. Lucas' entire filmography was about the evils of bureaucracy, about the evils of the machine, from THX-1138, to Freiheit, to Star Wars. And you learned nothing from any of it. No wonder he sold the franchise when people are this stupid.

Disney by its very essence, is incapable of making a good Star Wars movie, because Disney is the Empire, they are evil.

>>29491

>Disney isn't a single, monolithic entity.

It literally is. Once a corporation becomes that big, it becomes an artificial intelligence of sorts, made up of all its moving pieces to pursue its goals. It's not a coincidence that everything Disney produces is anti-white. It really disappoints me how so many you only want Kathleen Kennedy to be fired so some sort of Kevin Feige esque character can come in and create a million more The Farce Awakens. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is just as fucking terrible as everything Lucasfilm has been making, there is no actual difference. Infinity War isn't any better than the Last Jedi. They are the exact same shit.

>too big to fail

Not really.

Remember, "too big to fail" is not "too big to be able to fail". It's "too big to be allowed to fail". If Disney tanked, there would be repercussions, but it wouldn't destroy any national economies or lead to widespread violent unrest like some financial firms.

That's what makes "too big to fail" corporations such an abomination. They can take any risks they want because they know that whatever happens, there is no choice but to prop them up, since even the billions of tax dollars in bailouts are nothing compared to the cost of their collapse. They can implement whatever flavour of blatant kikery they want, because nobody is in a position to stop their vile practices without destroying themselves in the process (even if the will to stop them existed). Disney would get bailouts since it's an "essential American cultural institution" or something (read: is an irreplaceable propaganda tool) but if it did go belly-up, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

TL;DR

>2017: EA shuts down Visceral Games (Dead Space) who were working a SW action game with working title Ragtag

>Ragtag game assets picked up by EA Vancouver studio. Used for open world SW game with working title Orca

>2019: Electronic Arts cancels Orca + news leak that they've declined requests by Bioware to work on KotoR III

>apparently EA CEO Andrew Wilson thinks the Star Wars IP is a burden since EA has to consult with Lucasfilm and Disney on every aspect of a game and share profits. Wants EA to focus on their own IPs and is probably trying to wait out the deal

>Gary Whitta (story co-writer for Rogue One) openly states that EA's treatment of the IP has been "an embarrassment" so far: "I would just take the license away from EA because it's been catastrophically mismanaged" and "If I was an EA shareholder, I’d be fucking furious at the way [it’s been handled]." The lead actress in Star Trek Dickscoverme also said she "was not surprised" by Who fans who don't like Jodie Whittaker (cuz shez a gurl).

>Sonequa also added- "people were upset that a black woman was the lead of Star Trek."

You're both right. He himself is written as a fool who's out of his depth, and I'm confident that was deliberate, but the role they wrote for him within the story as a whole, distinct from what they wrote for him as a character alone, is one that demands more legitimacy as a villain.

If they'd made a Vader-tier villain, people would have liked the bad guys, and that's not allowed. But they can't just not have a bad guy, or the good guys have nothing to be rebelling against. So the only way to proceed was to write bad guys that were shit, but pretend they weren't.

Kylo Ren isn't even original, much like everything else JJ has made. His outfit is taken from Revan but made edgier (even called the Scourge of Malachor) and his entire character is ripped straight from Anakin:

1: Promising jedi goes dark side

2: Is immature (except in Ren's case, his immaturity is amplified by a million and he's an even more annoying emo brat)

3: Kills all the jedi

4: Burns down the temple

5: Wants to surpass his master

6: Wants the girl he's attracted to rule by his side

7: Is prone to tantrums but far worse

He's like a worse version of Anakin with absolutely no likeable traits outside of his shitty mask.

So what happens? He retcons a bunch of shit so Disney can have a blank slate again? I can see that happening, Solo was such a failure that every spin off movie has been put on hold, so rewriting them to fit into this new Disney canon shouldn't be too hard. Nobody gives a shit about the comics or that Resistance cartoon, so they can cancel those. And The Mandalorian probably won't come out until 2020, so it can be written to fit this. That would be The Rat's last grasp at keeping its version of Star Wars afloat.

Marvel is making a one-shot continuation of their 80's comic series. Meaning it's the first non-SWTOR EU material since the mouse declared it non canon.

I'm sure this will get a lot of nostalgiafags jumping for joy at "the EU being saved". But remember, it's not being made by the Marvel of the 80's, this is being made by the Disney owned, feminist infested 2019 Marvel. They are not your friends bringing back the good old days, this is a calculated move by Disney to test the waters and see if they can make money from EU material. They've already fucked the reputation of their canon in only a few years, so they're going to try to see if they can get the in the good graces of the hardcore fans by making moves like these.

I'm sure you all know this, but just be careful if Disney starts releasing announcing new material with a "legends" label on them. Because they will still be made by the same incompetent pieces of shit we know and hate.

Vid related, I'm mainly worried about these naive idiots who think the glory days will return if only Disney knew how much we love the EU.

And that's why documentation is essential. If this type of thing becomes more common, sites like Wookieepedia will lose all their remaining value as they add Disney stuff into the EU timeline.

It was actually pretty convenient that they basically left everything made before 2014 untouched by their faggotry. Once IX is released and interest in the movies fades, they may go back to EU and muddle up things so that a "legends" label won't necessarily mean pre-Disney. And that will fool a lot of people into thinking Disney is now on their side.

It seems alright from this little bit, but heavy on the nostalgia-bait. Not just in the compilation part, where it's expected they'd cram it all in, but even during the actual scenes. The walk from the cantina to the meeting place was a barrage of one thing after another to a level that felt forced. The door camera struck me as particularly unnecessary. It's not at all a bad thing to include aliens and droids from the pre-Disney days, but that part felt less like wanting to keep the universe the same and more like "Hey guys, remember Salacious B. Crumb? Remember Gonk droids?"

The real questions it leaves are whether the writing and plot will hold up and not turn into a disjointed nonsensical mess, and whether that girl is a character who is female or just a Strong Female Character.

At least they're using actual OT aliens instead of grey/yellow/brown Disney blobs. And it doesn't look ST tier awful. However, the whole thing seems really pandering to the Filoni/Rogue One crowd. "See, this is made for the real fans, it's got IG-88, and le gritty mando bounty hunter, we're not like those sequels made for the casuals". I can't describe it, but it seems like it's made for someone who's never read an EU book (except maybe the Thrawn Trilogy), but really wants to look superior to the average normalfag moviegoer. For the time being, I'll put it in the same category as Fallen Order and be hopeful that it captures at least some of that pre-disney magic.

If, by some terrible event, Roundhead's trilogy is actually made, that might finally kill this reanimated corpse of SW.

I dont think George is involved with IX (but if he is please correct me). Only the Mandalorian. So if that flops, they'll blame him.

Hate to say it, but I'm quite liking the look of this. This is what I want out a Star Wars spinoff. Just stories about other things that are going on in that universe, without having to tie everything back to the events and characters of the OT.

It's not "how the Death Star got it's name and where Luke Skywalker bought his tunic" though. The forming of the First Order is actually maybe something that could use fleshing out, since we were given nothing.

It already got flesh out in other Disney garbage like EA's Battlefront II, Wendig's shitty novels and some other crap where Palpatine told the Empire to off themselves so they ran off into the Unknown Regions where they were found by the Not-Vong whose leader was Snoke who then reformed them into the First Order and they took over some planets and established a shitty economy. Also finding out more about the First Order is stupid since they're a shitty faction from an even shittier set of Disney movies that amount to fuck all and can magically recover after having their ultimate weapon destroyed with little consequences.

They know they've fucked up the source material so badly they have nothing left to go on. Why are they using kotor? I know it's in the past and far removed, but isn't it part of the EU yidsney declared non-canon?

PR, and George is probably friends with Jon Favreau. That's why he agreed to visit the Solo set with Ron Howard iirc.

>>32466

He's been saying that for years tbh. He does it to troll the weak-minded.

>>32570

Lucasfilm want to make their own sanitised Kotor adaptation so they can trick old fans to come back while retconning the universe's past to be more progressive ala STD. They also want to lean on a story that has already been written because they know their new writers and original ideas aren't working out.

It might also be one last push to make TOR successful by recanonizing that game. EA and Lucasfilm would love to make more money from it.
