Kenobi was a fuck-up from the start. If you watch The Phantom Menace you'll see that he's jealous of the attention Anakin is getting from Qui Gon, and after Qui Gon is killed, Kenobi decides to treat Anakin like a younger brother, instead of a padawan/son who needs a father figure. Kenobi was very simply completely incompetent and a bad Jedi. He failed to see that Anakin needed guidance from someone more mature than him, not support from a brother. And if you go through the comics, there's so many thing Kenobi did absolutely wrong.
Then, once you get to the Original Trilogy, you really start to see how much of a scumbag Kenobi is, he lies to Luke nonstop, and purposefully allows Vader to kill him in front of Luke to try to get Luke to seek revenge against Vader and kill Vader. In Return he desperately wants Luke to kill his own father, and is immensely disappointed when Luke refuses to.
My personal theory is that Obi Wan wanted to be the chosen one or at the very least someone important, and when he discovered that Anakin had far more potential than he did, he set about sabotaging Anakin's career and prospects. The Prequels become incredibly fascinating when one views both Obi Wan and Mace Windu as antagonists for Anakin. If it wasn't for their incompetence, Anakin never would have been drawn to Palpatine, Palpatine capitalized on Anakin's lack of a father figure. In Attack of the Clones, Anakin tells Obi Wan that he's the closest thing he has to a father, Obi Wan disregards this, and Palpatine fills the void.

No-fucking-duh. Kenobi was still in-training. He wasn't ready for the undertaking of raising an apprentice/stepson. Qui Gon was the only one who knew both boys well enough.

Further proof that he was too immature to raise and train Anakin. Unlike Qui Gon, Kenobi was a stickler for the rules due to his inexperience and made all manner of poor mistakes in his training due to believing upholding the Jedi code to its most strictest tenant was the only way to go. He could be flexible, but in his first several years with Anakin after TPM, that was less likely. He even ignored Anakin's visions surrounding his mother despite knowing the extant of Anakin's power. The least he could've done was visit Tatooine on his own without telling Anakin.

There's nothing to meme, Obi Wan is meant to be viewed as a false wiseman, Luke is enraptured by him and the ways of the Jedi, only to discover that he was full of shit. His whole, "from a certain point of view" spiel is meant to show you that he was full of shit. Lucas has said over and over again that people didn't understand the OT, and that's why he made the Prequels, to clarify his intentions. But people don't understand that Prequels either. Obi Wan isn't evil, he's just a shitheel and a remnant of the corrupt Jedi Order. He's not a hero, Lucas even said himself that the OT is a fairy tale where none of the good guys die. Obi Wan dies because he's not one of the good guys.

Show me that quote. Lucas has said over and over that he wanted to make the archetypal story, which is a story all human beings inherently understand. Obi wan is the mentor archetype. Quite honestly I think you are arguing your own head canon to become doctrine.

You're replacing one incorrect position (Obi-Wan dindu nuffin) with another. Obi-Wan isn't an asshole, he was just fundamentally inadequate for the position he was in. His single-minded desire to kill Vader isn't sadism, it's because he feels guilty for failing to stop Vader the first time and thinks this is the only way for him to atone.

>he was just fundamentally inadequate for the position he was in
Quite honestly the Jedi Council are who fucked up, not Obi Wan. They refused to train Anakin, and you can see the resentment on Anakin's face when they say thay he's too damaged and angry. Sidious didn't get Anakin to his side by playing on his hatred of Obi Wan, but on playing on his hatred of the Jedi Council, which really comes down to Windu being a cunt to him the whole time.
The second problem was the fact that Anakin couldn't go to anyone to protect his wife because the Jedi Council would have been pissed he was married, and Yoda's advice when he tried to bring it up was to advise him just to not give a shit. His only outlet was a Sith who told him he could make her immortal.
There's no indication Obi Wan did anything wrong here, except maybe tolerate his padawan's affection for Padme instead of reaming him out and forbidding it, which we can all guess wouldn't have led to Anakin going to Sidious earlier and maybe getting more Sith training earlier on.

I don't disagree there. I was taking that into account, that by-the-book Obi-Wan was just incapable of being a good mentor to Anakin in light of the shitty way the Council was treating him. That's not a slight on Kenobi, certain padawans would have benefited from that approach. Anakin just wasn't one of them, and he needed someone like Qui-gon to teach him.

Maybe Anakin was aware of it, hence his further dislike of the Jedi. In the end it was Windu who pushed him too far by taking justice into his own hands. Not to mention the jedis actions throughout the clone wars turned them from protectors and monks into military overlords and corrupt politicians. Even Dooku was disgusted by it.
