Episode IX's release is still a long way to go before we can tear it a new asshole. In the mean time, I thought it'd be fitting to make a containment thread for leaks, news, discussion, info and debates regarding it and the rest of the Disney films to keep up to date on IX or any other Disney film topic instead of making threads for every shitty new thing that comes up about that crap pile, like Palpatine being in IX because they're that desperate for cameos.
Also for discussing the films, their flaws, things that could've worked if handled by people not as incompetent as Rian, JJ and Kennedy or any other topic.

Also here's a pic supposedly of the poster for IX which looks gay as fuck (most likely fake). The other two though are very real pics from a IX set in Wadi Rum, Jordan (Middle East) so it looks like these shits are going back to Tatooine or Jakku. There was a lot of shooting going on in Jordan during October.
And I got some special "goods" that might interest you faggots which I will soon be posting in the Mandalorian TV show thread.

The reason she had it in the first place was plot magic, using a little more plot magic to stitch it together isn't that far-fetched by comparison. We already know that in the JJverse, lightsabers have gained the power of telepathic thought-trigger and mood ring abilities, why not tack "self-repair" onto that as well?

You lucky bastard. I was forced to go because my old man and some friends of mine desperately wanted to see it. Even told them it was bad and that this shit had no real connection to any pre-existing lore from the old films, the Lucas story bible, the EU, or even the films themselves outside of old actor cameos since it was basically a soft reboot, but they didn't listen. They wanted to "relive the magic" as they said and they even sported Kylo Ren t-shirts for a bit. They then saw TFA and now they won't even talk about SW anymore and threw out their t-shirts. I tried to warn them but they didn't listen. If only the masses bothered to listen to our warnings.

I mean the super AT-AT form last jedi were disappointingly less fearful & armored than they should be for their size, that was notably higher than the already too tall AT-ATs. But look at this shit. It finally look more armored and in multiple directions, but look at how ugly it is; And is even more tall than the super huge AT-AT, jesus! As a fan of the AT-AHT, I can say I approve of the upper half of this new vehicle (though it could obviously be a lot better). Having omni-directional turret coverage is a great advantage over previous models, and helps the walker fulfill it's role as a mobile fortress. But the six spindly legs of excessive height is fucking stupid; they look so undefended and unarmored. and are just positioned impractically as far as motility is concerned. Also the TLJ AT-AT's looked like they had exposed fuel tanks on their backs, which defeats the entire purpose of heavy armor.

It looks like a horrendous merger between an AT-AT and an AT-TE. Only good thing I can say about it is that it at least looks well fortified unlike that lackluster gorilla walker from the last film and it has guns on its rear and sides like the old AT-AHT which makes this look like a genuine improvement over the original design unlike that atrocious gorilla, but the head and legs on this thing are just so horribly ugly, even casing. I mean I think this poster is fake judging from the little signature beneath the Falcon, but this AT had to have come from somewhere since its definitely a design for an AT I've never seen before in any old reference guide or most new Disney material.

I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing in and of itself. Lightsabers are supposed to have a special connection to their wielder, which is probably the reason they don't just get yanked out of their user's hands with telekinesis all the time. But if Rey has Luke's saber and doesn't lose it to Kylo this way, it would offer an additional avenue for her to be a Mary Sue.

>>23197
>How the hell doesnt its legs crush the earth & get swallowed by it?
This is a very good question. Another question is how doesn't it tump over due to being so top-heavy? Sadly this is a tradeoff every ground vehicle has to deal with. The MRAP achieves its greater level of mine resistance partly by raising the body of the vehicle further off the ground and away from the mine, but this makes it more prone to rollover. If the footpads have a large amount of high-density material in them it may shift the mech's center of mass toward the ground and prevent tumping over, but this means it would be extraordinarily expensive and make the problems with ground pressure worse. It may be a better idea to talk about this in a dedicated thread though, since we haven't even verified that this poster is real.

This is probably a discussion better suited for the lightsaber thread, but there are a few events in Legends that contradict this. The first one that comes to mind is in Jedi Knight when Yun sacrifices himself to save Kyle, who then proceeds to retrieve Yun's lightsaber and use it for the rest of the game. You could argue that Yun giving his life for Kyle and maybe Kyle's earlier decision to spare him created enough of a bond between Kyle and Yun's lightsaber to allow it to not be Force pulled away from him by Jerec.
>the fact that rey touching the saber somehow showed her a vision of an event the lightsaber wasn't even present for goes to tell you how retarded the writing is.
Yeah, but it's not the fault of the concept of a bond between the lightsaber and the user itself. It's just Disney not applying their own rules correctly.

Disney has done nothing except fuck up Star Wars since they got it, but the inability to yank a lightsaber away through telekinesis still suggests some kind of bond. If this wasn't the case, every lightsaber duel ever would end immediately with the fighter with more developed Force powers pulling away their opponent's saber.

It's easily just as likely that the person holding the lightsaber is using the force to keep it in their hand themselves rather than some special "bond" that has no basis in anything but pure conjecture and contradicts plenty of media where characters halfhazardly get new sabers without "bonding" with them.

Great differences between the Force power levels of the fighters would play havoc with this. Why didn't those Sith apprentices that Revan fought on the Star Forge just get their sabers taken away by Revan, the strongest Jedi of his era by far?

not only that, but i remember when reading through wookieepedia articles, they mentioned in a page that jedi generally used the force to keep the saber ignited, or duels would basically consist of turning each other's blade off and going for an attack.

I kek'd. But Jedi Knight has the ability to pull weapons away as long as they're not lightsabers and no magical anti-jump Force restriction is in place there. This also applies to Jedi Outcast and Academy, where the mass-produced shadowtroopers and Reborn are far weaker in the Force than a natural Force user like Kyle, but he can't disarm them. You could argue that the Dark Jedi bosses in the first game have enough Force power to give Kyle a challenge, but this isn't the case for the Reborn. One way to get around this without any need to resort to game mechanics or a bond would be to posit that there really isn't as much difference between Force power levels most of the time as is often thought, or that having a solid grip on your saber is emphasized so as not to lose it. Making the saber out of rough materials and shaping it to optimize retention is a good way to keep it. As far as the Force power levels go, it's likely that the Force-using population can be fitted to a bell curve or some other statistical distribution. You'd rarely have a Force user get their saber pulled away just because most Force users will never have that much of an edge over each other in Force power.

Star Wars was already extremely progressive. We don't need to hamfist that shit further to the point it gets into our tonsils. NOW, could Episode IX be good? I doubt it, but even if it is. It won't be enough to heal the wounds. Eh, we're getting way too far off topic here. We can talk about how to retain a lightsaber in the lightsaber thread. The old rule for deciding which part of the games was canon is that only the story is canon, but now that the canon has been upended by Disney it's hard to hold it to that, and game mechanics have occasional uses as a secondary source for examining a fighting style.

> ya gotta bring back the EU
Please no. As much as I love the EU, they'd probably fill even the good parts with godawful writing and do stupid shit like make Ben Skywalker gay and Jaina stupid shit about women's rights. Have you seen the Dr. Aphra comics or Wendig's books? The EU stories would all be changed to have snobbish college writing and more genderfluid/sexualityfluid characters. Even though KOTOR had a lesbian companion, it was done right because you never really get to know about it unless you try to romance her rather than forcing it on you every 2 pages like Dr. Aphra, which is honestly why that kind of pandering works better in games or RP rather than comics or books, as the west has proven to be utterly incompetent in that regard, but that would just be one problem. Like I said before, the new stories are even more horribly written than stuff like the Glove of Darth Vader which now looks like a masterpiece by comparison. And have you seen the new essential guides and new aliens? Its nothing but unoriginal ballsacks most of which don't even have bios, and those that do (like that blobfish guy in TFA) have backgrounds and alien descriptions so ridiculous that they don't even try to be realistic. Most of the alien bios in old lore at least tried their best to make shit seem feasible, Disney however just randomly comes up with shit on the spot or just wings it. Dianogas used to be a species of rabid carnivorous octopi in old lore, but under new lore they're a race of highly spiritual shamans who only drag people down into the water to baptize them…
Honestly, I would love to have the EU back, but Disney and modern writers have proven they only have a talent for making things worse (with the only decent ones being Luceno and Zahn). So I'd rather just see Disney crash and burn and have fans takeover in creating their own stories, like the Warhammerfags have been doing.

The people running Star Wars cannot make new characters. There are several reasons for this; the primary reason is that they are simply creatively bankrupt, and must draw heavily on the work of others in order to achieve any measure of success. This is typified in Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso - these characters are clearly poor imitations of Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors, remolded to fit the political and social requirements of Disney executives. The secondary reason is that Disney is an incomprehensibly large media company, and all new character designs or plotlines must go through endless levels of bureaucratic purgatory and focus group testing before seeing the light of day. The best examples of this are characters like Rey or Finn - simple, empty shells that have been mathematically and statistically designed to generate a predetermined minimum level of interest among the absolute widest possible audience (e.g. "the lowest common denominator").
Ultimately these factors mean that Disney is both unwilling and unable to come up with original content, because the people working for it aren't clever enough, and because the executives don't want to waste time and money coming up with new ideas. This is why Star Wars suffers from Small Galaxy Syndrome - why the same characters keep bumping into each other in the same (or very similar) places, under the same (or very similar) circumstances. Whereas before the purchase, LucasFilm was structured in a way that allowed constant creative expansion of the Star Wars universe, it's now a slave to the cold and unfeeling corporatism of a globalist megacorporation.

I recall seing some of his work being discussed in /sw/ before. Don't miss the rest of his galleries. The guy is a true fan and does capture the feel of the original films design much better than whoever is in charge of ILM now, in my opinion.

what's hilarious to me is that this is the only character i liked from the movie and even i don't want a full show about it, i'd rather they just did some comics showcasing his younger self and end it with him taking jyn on the assignment.

a few things
1) ben burt has not worked on these movies and literally no new sounds were made for TLJ
2) williams has been ill during writing/recording, so i think he definitely threw OT cues in as filler and decided not to go back to them since the films were too shitty to give any effort. the only callback cue that has any reason to be in the new scores is yoda's theme

as faggoty as the poster is, you're right that it captures the spirit of star wars better than whoever the current posterfaggot at ilm/lucasfilm is. shit it's even better than struzan's nonsense he made for tfa.

My mistake, I meant the 3D artist work that was more in line with the original designs, although a little too technical and practical-looking for my taste. I like my Star Wars hardware a bit sillier.

I didn't even say any of these posters in a single theater. They just kept using the same lifeless photoshopped ones. But even so these ones still look pretty crappy, I guess our poor old artist didn't have the heart in him to really do these with all his heart or he's an old man who just wanted to be left alone.

they aren't official, as i said they're fan works inspired by struzan's art, and i guarantee you most of them were created due to disappointment in struzan's official work. i also think he just wanted to be left alone as opposed to not having it in his heart. guaranteed if lucas were still on the project, the poster would have been better and in conjuncture with previous posters.

I don't even want to think about it. On the possible bright side, if they do bring in Star Wars, they hopefully won't even touch the OT or the PT and Disney will probably force them do use the Sequel Trilogy in order to have Rey as Sora's partner and boost the dying popularity of the sequels. I can already see a shitty Captain Phasma miniboss fight being likely.

You could do it as a short film dry humor routine, perhaps. Mark Hammil is the isolated hermit that can't be arsed to teach students anymore. He's then approached by a series of obnoxious Mary Sue types (think rey but the writers are self-aware), who are absolutely sure that they're the special one who's going to bring this grizzled old hermit out of his shell, because they're just that good, and their quest is super duper important. And each time Hammil rejects them and humiliates them, cynically listing off the reasons either the student or his quest are fundamentally flawed. Bonus points if the very first student is made to be one of those Mary Sues that normies like and can relate to, e.g. Harry Potter, just to subvert expectations all the harder.

No, because Rey Sue does get trained, and she does go out and save the universe becasue she's just so perfect and everything. She still gets validation, but the whole point of this skit is to invalidate the plucky, precocious little shits that come to the hermit for assistance, while also vindicating the hermit and showing him enjoying his life of being a bitter asshole to to the revolving door of young upstarts that approach his house and try to learn from him.

you're technically right but anon is also right that rey never actually learned how to use the force, all luke told her was to breath and feel the force surrounding the island. then he throws in a one-off line about lifting rocks, which is supposed to validate rey lifting rocks at the end of the movie.
feeling the force =/= using the force, this has been known since dagobah.

There's a new TIE variant being constructed at Disneyland which will probably be in Episode IX since that Batuu is allegedly a movie tie in.
It's supposedly a First Order transport but it's painted in imperial grey/black colors instead of the inverted black/silver seen on all First Order ships in the sequels. Maybe they're backtracking on the mild repaints to make the designs even more of a nostalgia ploy or maybe Disney has decided to rebrand the park as an OT attraction at the last minute.

>do you think a new Lucasarts leader will do better
No, because ultimately disney is in charge and they decided on the current course Lucasarts is taking, with “Star Wars” from the horribly inconsistent (plot hole filled) storyline, poorly ripped off elements from the OT movies, to the bad characters and the “deconstruction” ie destruction of the OT characters and lore.
> will they continue to use sjw shit
Yes, because the disney executives approved of the sjw message, promote, and are promoting with their new movies.
> would you watch disney movies in the future
First I do not like getting pissed on in films and disney shill articles for the crime of existing nor do I think exposing children to that kind of immoral propaganda is healthy moreover apart from being insulted by disney and its employees the writing itself for “Star Wars” has degenerated significantly from George Lucas’s day and currently seems only interested in ripping off visuals from the OT which are completely unearned or are not justified by the story. The characters are also horribly written, un-relatable, and “diverse™” aka the only men in the film are bungling idiots, bad guys or both. Therefore no the (almost monopoly) disney corporation will not get one shekel from me or my family.
