Let's at a you're a senator in the Galactic Senate during the clone wars. What political ideas do you promote? What other senators do you associate with? Which ones would you consider rivals/enemies. What do you think of Palpatine? Are you loyal to the Republic, or do you sympathize with the CIS? What political factions do you support (Militarists, Humanocentrists, Rim Faction, Core Faction, etc)? What is your opinion of the Jedi and their role in the Republic?

I would be a Republic loyalist, a staunch militarist, and a Palpatine supporter. I would support the Core faction and favor strong central control over the Galaxy. I would also be in favor of curbing the Jedi's power somewhat, and I would be a human and near-human supremist.

Anakin and Padme certainly were not.

As for Obi-Wan, unlawfully surveilling closed door political conferences is out of scope of a formal jedi investigation. He should have asked the Geonosian authorities for assistance and conducted his search without violating trespass and espionage laws.

Obi-wan's search was legal due to him chasing after known assassin and bounty hunter Jango Fett who attempted to very publicly kill Senator Amidala and then kill Obi-wan multiple times during pursuit. Anakin, his Apprentice, was technically on the same case and his backup. Senator Amidala's R2 unit which was brought with them proved that the Geonosians attacked both Obi-wan and Anakin first.

The Jedi only acted out after the failed execution of all three who were legally on Geonosis due to Jango Fett.

>Publicly push social programs to get in tight with Organa, Amidala, and their crowd. Only breaking with them to support the war effort, using the bloody history of the galaxy divided as justification for the war to reunify. Being from the mid rim, my planet remembers the bloody faction fighting as we sat on the border of several conflicts that brought smaller wars over the millenia. When the war is over and they start up the rebellion I will squeal to ISB.

>Privately deal in concessions to trade federation that line my pockets and give my world some nice trade deals for pumping information to Gunray thou nothing that would help the CIS war effort directly, mostly dirt on other senators.

>Remain a staunch Republic supporter, as the central government has proven to create the most stable galaxy in history. I have my issues with using the clone army, as they are awfully expensive that made sense at the start of the war, but as it continued I would sponsor measures to try to instate a volunteer military force to replace the expensive clone.

>I support Palpatine as outwardly everything looks on the up and up, I try a bit to curry favor from him but nothing to make me appear like a sycophant. I can see that his power is still rising and want to remain on his good side.

>The Jedi get very little support from me, their lack of oversight bothers me deeply and making them generals by default is an insult to the military academy in my system that has produced numerous more than competent officers that could have been elevated to general. The way they take children and cut them off from their families is also a sore spot as it seems to be an attack on families by claiming they are dangerous for force wielders. The Jedi had baby Ludi for a month, how could they have made that child so dangerous they couldn't be with their mother anymore? I support them being used as law enforcement and diplomats, but they require more oversight than trusting their "always noble intentions"

>CIS sympathy was washed away by the many war crimes carried out by their droid armies. I know they will eventually lose war, as my faith in the Republic is solid, that is why I keep dealing with Gunray because I know he will lose but will still have plenty of influence in the Trade guild. If I had a similar line into the Techno union or Banking clans that I could exploit like Gunray's greed I would. I know they support the CIS but I believe they will survive the lose and will be grateful to have a friend in the senate.

His methods were actually legal, if it was a regular murder you'd be right but this was an attempted political assassination chasing after the prime suspect who nearly killed Obi-wan.

>Tell me how you would be the innocent one in that situation.

While I wouldn't be, due to the special rights of the Jedi (which I find bullshit) as well as the nature of Obi-Wans investigation the Geonosians were actually the ones who broke the law arrest him without identifying or accommodating him in his search. They were aiding and abiding a prime suspect in an assassination attempt on a Senator. A Jedi carrying a lightsaber is not considered carrying a lethal weapon legally after all.

I agree with the Pentastarfag. While the jedi are indeed our proud protectors with a rich history, their treatment of padawans and their "recruitment" methods are a matter of serious debate and questioning. The Republic should enforce a stronger system of standards upon the jedi regardless if this may hamper their powers since they are already leagues above the average citizen and soldier and they cannot be allowed to continue recruiting infants when studies have proven that force sensitivity as great as any jedis has arisen in locations without jedi influence, such as Outer Rim territories and the planet Dathomir. Their current training and its effectiveness is even more questionable in terms of success rate as even older padawans will only be forced to work in farms on Dantooine or as over glorified lab assistants. They should instead adopt the training methods used by Master Jorus C'baoth whose success rate is phenomenal.

The Jedi council can't override local laws to that extent without notifying the government prior to the event.

And no, Obi-Wan had already broken the law , they do not "accomodate" him at that point because he already forfeited that right.

That wasn't the point, Sheev. My point is that the Outer Rim has produced notably powerful force users as great as any jedi without undergoing the jedi or sith's questionable training which shows that there is no need to recruit any of them as infants. The jedi clearly need to re-examine themselves or have the Republic step in and take action.

you're missing the point, the outer rim is the afghanistan of star wars. it's a desolate wasteland where there is no proper order, just an attempt at a common sense thing that falls apart the minute you have more than 10 people in an area. so things like anakin and padme defending themselves against geonosians (who attacked first btw, effectively declaring war against the republic) is perfectly legit.

Anyone find it deliciously ironic, that had the Jedi been more receptive to Ranuplh's Tarkin's Militarist faction, and created a standing non-Clone army Sheev wouldn't have been able to annihilate the Jedi so thoroughly.

I love how the comics portray him as the bad guy but if he had lived to see his proposal come through, more than likely more Jedi would've survived the attempted purge and be able to fight back in the coming civil war.

He unironically did nothing wrong and his proposal would've made the Republic look way more moral and humane. Strange how he's portrayed as a bad guy, yet his proposed army would've probably been badass.

It's probably a combination of the movie Tarkin being evil, and the values of time. Since he's a racist meanie bigot human supremacist from Eriadu, we have to make him ebil even though his solution would have averted the creation of the Empire.

I would've loved to have seen a Grand Army of the Republic that wasn't made up of clone troopers (much like the days of the really Old Republic). The potential for stories there might've been even bigger. Jango could've still been worked in as a trainer for elite soldiers, or have clones only make up the elite units.

This would also put the "Muh 3 million" argument to rest by satisfying both camps.

Who knows- maybe the Sith wanted the Republic to demilitarize, knowing that eventually they would eventually be able to use the situation to take it over from the inside? Though having the Jedi personally command the clones may have been a stroke of luck on the Sith's part. Not that Jedi being involved with the Republic military was anything new however- but the Jedi of the time had long distanced themselves from that role if I recall correctly.

I thought a feature of the Late Republic was the Jedi taking an increasingly involved role in the Senate's politics at the expense of studying the Force.

Absolutely. That would make so much more sense in the grander scheme of things.

According to the Essential Guide to Warfare, many Planetary Security Forces fought against the Separatists, and you can see some of them on the Jabiim and Rendiili arc of Republic. Rahm Kota had his own private militia as well which allowed him to survive.

Fucking neat. So the clones really were the "elite" while the bulk of the army were actually local planetary/system armies?
