The Droids cartoon from the 80s is full of references to the prequels. Splinter of the Mind's eye was the fist SW book to not be a novelization/adaptation of events in the film. The Thrawn Trilogy is what re-sparked interest in SW in an age where interest was dying. The Dark Horse comics are usually a must, but be wary of Mandalorian stuff, you'll either love it or hate it. The Jedi Knight series of games and Knights of the Old Republic are a must.

Everything else you'll need you can find here:

You should watch the 2 "clone wars" series and avoid season 6 on netflix because its nuDisney/after 2012. If anyone could repost TCW must watch list that would be great. The 2 series help understand Anakin more.

Was season 6 the one with the brain chips, Maul and Jar Jar getting laid?

"Essential Readers Companion". Kind of outdated but maybe helpful

And maybe this if you want

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAlGDJ_c1s8&list=PLls1N_myfiawOnVd5yVNV7Mp2418__C53

It's a YouTube playlist where a guy go throughs the entire EU in chronological order. Not a bad general guide and pretty much spoiler free iirc, but whenever there's series of novels that are linked straight into each other like Republic Commando or something, I recommend reading those just back to back even if it means sacrificing chronology. In fact chronological reading isn't essential at all or even necessarily recommended.. It's just a fun and rewarding way to do it if you have the patience. Another fun way to enjoy the EU is to just tackle one subject or time period at a time so you can really allow yourself to get drenched in the atmosphere

Also "The Clone Wars" 3d animated show isn't a bad primer by any means when it comes to supplementary star wars material. It does trample over a lot of prequel-EU, but when you don't know what it's doing wrong you'll enjoy it a lot more. That's why it's fun to watch first. There's also a chronological episode guide for it somewhere.

and like recommended here

Read

>Thrawn Trilogy

>X-Wing book 1-4

>I, Jedi

After you finish those you can go in a lot of directions.

As for games, the important ones (You'll actually see them referenced elsewhere beyond vague nods or continuity guides) for lore are (in no order, though you should play each series in release order)

>KotOR 1 (shit, but lore important)

>KotOR 2

>Dark Forces

>Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight

>Mysteries of the Sith

>Jedi Outcast

>Jedi Academy

>Shadows of the Empire

>Battlefront II

>X-wing

>TIE Fighter

>X-Wing Alliance

Also if you're into /tg/ find a group and play Tatooine Manhunt and Domain of Evil. There are a lot of classic modules for Star Wars d6, but these are the ones that get overt references.

Yes half of the 13 episode season revolves around trying to destroy the impact of Order 66 and there is a Jar Jar arc. Mace Windu also fights Mother Talzin (Mauls mother) and there is an arc explaining how yoda could transcend death becoming a force spirit which feature a Darth Bane cameo that is just an illusion. The final arc also retcons Sith force ghost and Syfo Dyas dying before the clone wars.

The only good part of the whole season is this fight on episode 10 of season 6

I also enjoyed the Force Unleashed 1 but the 2nd game was a dlc and micro dlc ripoff which was stupid besides explaining the empires rapid progress with cloning which eventually led to Palpatine's rebirth. Darth Vader is no where near my favorite character but Force Unleashed sheds more light on him cruelty wise which is one of the few times its necessary due to him not be a showoff like kylo ren.

The game also takes place in one of the best eras in between episodes 3-4. Galen was nowhere near overpowered and could just contend with stronger opponents due to talent with force lightning leading to his victory with Vader.

>TFU was meant to be a Shadows of the Empire like multi-media project

>the game was delayed so many times that sunk it

>you can still see remnants of this in the The Force Unleashed book for Saga edition which is actually the 'The Dark Times Sourcebook more than anything

>Maul's mother

Why even…

>retconning Sith ghosts

I think they were retconned as far back as the Mortis arc where Filoni decided not to have the ghosts of Revan and Bane appear because he thought Siths not having ghosts would be more faithful to George's view of the Force which was just a lame excuse.

>Darth Bane just looks like a cheap chinese Darth Vader knockoff

I think Filoni went out of his way to purposely shit on the lore after that one interview made him fumble like a goof when people started pointing out all the inaccuracies he had made after he had claimed to had faithfully followed adapted lore from the guides and novels.

I forgot Bane and Revan were originally planned for that arc. I'm really happy they were scrapped from it. It would have flt really out of place in a storyline that I already didn't like too much

Mortis was a pretty weak arc overall. I think it was Filoni's attempt to bring back mysticism into the Force (despite midis never really taking that away), but it just comes off as weird and unneeded. The Son was a pretty awful character too and the whole family dynamic felt pretty hammy if anything.

The only part of the arc I thought was interesting was Anakin finding the Father and thinking he was a sith lord. I have watch reactions to Mortis arc and most soyboys enjoy it for some reason. Qui gon was a decent cameo but unnecessary did not like Ashoka seeing her future when I first saw it because I wanted her to die before the end of the war for more emotional baggage on Anakin. The arc is one of my least favorites and heavily outclassed by the citadel arc after it.

This. I always thought Ahsoka was gonna die at the end of the series (which I thought would end with a post-ROTS epilogue taking place a few weeks or months after the Jedi Purge, with Ahsoka being on the run and trying to train what few younglings were left, then Anakin shows up, slaughters her students and begins a tragic final clash and just ends her story there. Or better yet, she could've died earlier at the hands of Dooku or Grievous as part of Palpatine's plan to bring Anakin closer to the Dark Side, thus explaining why Ahsoka had so little relevancy in the original canon. But I guess Filoni couldn't let his precious waifu ever get the axe.

This too. Although I would've liked it better if Grievous had just sliced her block off in their first fight.
