Lazy skimming is about the worst way to handle it too.
Even when the filmmaker absolutely hates the source material it can still at least make for a memeworthy end product (e.g. Starship Troopers)

The impression I get from a lot of the "creatives" running SW is they're the types who are too self-conscious to ever display a real interest in anything. Holding sincere love for the series is uncool, knowing too much about the world is embarrassing. Much safer for the fragile ego to do everything "ironically" then retreat under "I didn't really care, you're so lame for caring!" whenever they face criticism.

It's a once-in-a-lifetime role, but you simply don't have the ability to live up to it.

It really is a painful exercise in box-checking references from the OT. Disney could have picked anything, but instead they restricted themselves to the most pre-defined elements they could with Solo. Hell, they keep talking about shit that happened in the 3 years we skipped. Let's see that! Let's watch this rogue struggle as the academy tries to push conformity on him, keeping him around because of his talents. We could watch his slow growing distaste as he goes from a trainee to imperial soldier, eventually getting fed up on Kashyyk with the wookiee slaves thing. This isn't restricted at all in disney canon.
Instead we get his change-of-heart when he finds out that *shock!* the crime lord he's working for, is evil!

Even with lack of CY+3 these movies are still horribly written garbage with no depth and clearly Ron's directing is flawed, especially now since Alden shouldn't be this bad since he's done decently before. But overall, Ron probably has been the least shit director in enforcing stupid shit despite the fact that he thought the femdroid was a brilliant and moving character that best represent the struggle of minorities or something. But then again, if by some miracle Disney decides to reboot this shitty new continuity or sell it to someone else, what director in this day and age could we hope to make a decent SW film? Someone once told me Peter Jackson, but one has to wonder if he can be trusted after fucking up royally with the third Hobbit film.

what's hilarious is that these movies have always been made the same way, sure lucas bumped up the use of green screens in the prequels and cgi characters (that were more often than not based around a physical model that was scanned and replicated if need be) but The Farce Awakens literally had no miniatures made for it, whilst the prequels had more than the originals. apparently the last jedi had the most sets made for a sw film, i can only imagine the copious amount of green screens they had, i have yet to see a bts reel like they did with tfa that showed off all the computer work.

i'm in the camp of re-shoots having saved the picture. anyone who thought the suicide run at the AT-AT was good is an idiot whose opinions i can't abide. however, given the reports of the film going through various drafts pretty much right up to initial filming shows they really didn't have a full idea figured out, which is hilarious given that the initial jump-start came from an ILM guy.
the other irony is that tony gilroy, the director who oversaw the re-shoots, stated he's never going to work in the franchise again specifically because of the level of incompetence he experienced during said filming.

The issue with the reshoots is that you still have elements of the original shoot in the film, and at times they clash. It's not tone-deaf to nearly the degree that TLJ was, but you do notice it from time to time and it made the film a lot longer than it really had to be.

most theaters are packed for deadpool 2 and infinity war, whereas for solo it's just slugging along. the fatigue has indeed set in, they definitely fucked up with the six month switch, should have just kept it to christmas releases. i'm wondering how the marketing for 9 will go, if they'll go balls deep like they did for 7 and 8, or be more relaxed/nonexistent like they did this time around.

The most idiotic thing they could do was make a new star wars movie every six months/year instead of every 2 or 3 years like George did. Not to mention they have so much other garbage coming out at once like new cartoons, tv shows, and even more trilogies being thought up after the current one is finished. Disney milked so hard they ripped off the teat.

No kidding. The casual audience doesn't maintain that degree of interest, and the more serious fans don't have any time to cool down after the shitshow that TLJ was.
If the movies were actually good they could count on the fans to generate hype and drag the normalfags in on opening night like the usually do. Instead we're seeing the results of their brilliant PR campaign of telling the core fans they're not wanted and should fuck off. The low preview/opening sales are reflective of low turnout among the serious fans, not low turnout among the casual audiences.

Han has dice hanging in the falcon cockpit in one scene in ANH, it’s something I never even noticed but they decided to make it a big thing.
Overall it didn’t even feel like Star Wars, the visuals and sets seemed like generic sci-fi. Also I recall one second of screen time for a rodian and one or two seconds of a Twi’lek. Every other species was new besides human and Wookie. If they are making a Star Wars movie they should add things from Star Wars. Also the plot was awful and the only thing I was looking forward to wasn’t even shown. Han somehow was able to join the galactic Navy in a minute (with no paper work/background checks, testing ect.) and then they don’t even show him in the academy even though he got “kicked out for having a mind of his own”. It was stupid. The only thing I liked was the theme of the Maurauders which sounded like the Ghost in the Shell theme. They didn’t even finish the story, and ended a supposed standalone movie on a cliffhanger. Including Darth Maul was retard and they only did it because of the clone wars, because he now has Savage Oppress’ lightsaber and he said to met him on Dathimir. I liked the clone wars as a show but never considered it real Canon and didn’t think Disney would either. You’re telling me that Palpatine has no idea Maul is still alive or doesn’t care? Also a lot more black people in Star Wars than I remembered. All-in-all Soylo: A shoe horned story was just all around awful, and L3 and the producers don’t even understand how droids work.

Which is why Nu-Star Wars could be any sci-if movie because solo has aesthetics that don’t look like Star Wars (the costume designers ought to have been fired for just making slightly different than normal clothes. Stuff I could actually see rich snobs or hipsters wear unironically) and they fact that they decided to create an entire new catalogue of species.

i mean shit, for all the new species george made up for the prequels, he still used familiar faces to connect the trilogies. i suppose this is their way of going about "muh universe full of trillions of lifeforms" or some shit, but given the locations of these new planets it makes no sense to not see any past species. this is what i love most about disney wars, it just keeps contradicting itself.

Finally got around to watching it. It was meh but a much easier sit than TLJ. Dice were just a glorified cameo that contributed nothing. Alden had two expressions: awkward and smiling hard. Has no chemistry with Emilia Clarke. Dryden Vos, Val, Enfys Nest were underused and have very little screen presence. I completely forgot about that black chick's name after she sacrificed herself, until her name was brought up later. I felt more bad for the monkey's death than hers. The monkey was a better actor than a lot of the cast. Woody was the best overall.
L3-37 was plain annoying the moment she spoke. Glad she died but those 30 minutes were the one time I felt something other than boredom and that was irritation thoughout the movie. Didn't like the assembly lore they pulled for Han but at least Qi'ra wasn't the contributing factor to it. There were a few scenes where I heard Billy D. Williams from Donald Glover for about 5 seconds but then he defaults to his Glover style acting. I liked some of the alien cast and wished there was more of them. For all this Therm Scissorpunch with Denny's, they could have at least done something with him. Humor fell flat but it wasn't constant like TLJ.
Is there really bot enslavement because L3's statment makes it seems like they were already intelligent but brainwashed to fight which is weird. Wouldn't you make droids without AI instead brainwashing ones that already do? Kind of backwards logic, at least to me. Enfys Nest reveal came way too late in the movie. Should have happened in first half. Even if the rebellion stuff feels shoehorned in, the revelation should have happened sooner that they needed that fuel for a good cause. Have Han mull it over while doing the Kessel Run, thinking over his moral choices, and then have the double cross reveal at the end.
A predictable movie through and through. Sequelbaiting wasn't needed since I don't think this movie will get one. Darth Maul would have been a better villain than Vos if they were going to use him anyway. With some clever editing and writing, they could have him appear without breaking Han's disbelief about the force until IV. I would have preferred an original adventure or having something to do with Jabba, Boba Fett or Greedo but this is Disney Star Wars we're talking about. A very bland Star Wars movie that feels more like a plot for Mad Max but set in space. Could have been worst but could have certainly been a lot better.

Holy shit, this movie is fucking bad. I mean, really, really fucking bad.
And way to fuck up Han Solo's story-arc by having to make him a hero in this movie. Did the writers completely miss that day of writing-school? Where it's fucking obvious Han Solo learns in the OT of caring about others than himself and help his friends out leads to happiness.
And overall, the whole movie so fucking cringy. From the obvious droid who doesn't fit into the movie at all, the horrible acting from that negro from Community, to Woody Harrelsson doing the same fucking character he has done for the last decade, to the quippy fucking monkey they ripped off from pokémon to the kids from Mad Max 3 leading some fucking revolution in a story about smugglers and scoundrels.
