There's something about companies making their own parodies that makes me uneasy. Like they're trying to get a monopoly on even the criticism of their work.

Meanwhile, deep in the bowels of the CBS Fortress of Doom
<CBS chief exec: "OK, so STD is failing"
<"Like absolutely fucking nose diving at this point, seriously, which one of you cocksuckers pushed this bullshit anyway?"
Nobody responds as it was entirely his idea
<"Fine, so what the fuck can we do with this nerdshit licence now that we've basically raped it into the ground?"
<"What was it that the nerds loved about the ones we didn't make?"
Silence
<"OK then. What the fuck is popular right now?"
>Random Underling, uncertainly: "My nephew watches this Rick and Morty cartoon."
>"I tried watching it, it's some kind of washed out irreverent meta cartoon thingy; but he seems to like it, he's always wearing one of that shows t-shirts"
<Chief exec, triumphantly: "Great, make me one of those and slap some stars trekker shit on it so we keep the licence"
<"Get onto merchandising and tell them I want every store in America selling hip, meta, irreverant merch for this show from tomorrow"
<"So which one of you guys brought the lolis and cocaine for this meeting?".
Does that help answer your question OP?

It looks like a flash cartoon parody of Star Trek I might have watched on Newgrounds back in 2004…

It looks more like a parody of Star Trek than it does actual Star Trek. I guess it's going to try to be a comedy, and no doubt will flop spectacularly. Also:
>Only white male is a listless beta bitch who gets pushed around by the stonk black womyn
Like poetry.

I hear that, it's pretty unsettling worse though is that it will gurantee that the quility of the comedy with be absolute barebones.

The animation is the cheapest garbage there is, but it's very well written.

I was surprised with its creativity. The first episode, for example, introduces this extinct bug race that operated these organic-looking ships. It also had the best theme.

A lot of TAS episodes were straight up just old TOS scripts that were never made, for budgetary reasons, or whatever else.

TAS never fully used animation to come up with wild scenarios that couldn't be done in live action. The scale of that insectiod ship compared to the Enterprise in the first episode of TAS was memorable, then there was that practical joker episode with the rec room when the Enterprise was playing tricks on the crew. Aside from that most of the scenarios don't really leap out to me and I felt a good chunk of those episodes could've been done in the original series if it was never canceled.
I can't think of many TAS episode that I actually liked all that much, either. Maybe The Slaver Weapon? That's about the only one I felt which was worth a watch.

Couldn't anyone basically scrape this level of animation together these days and call it Start Trekks or something and just have fun with it?
