That aside I'm gonna wait and see if the s31 stuff goes anywhere. They hinted that those guys were around back in the first or second episode and I've suspected Tubby is secretly an agent ever since then, although recent eps seem to make that less likely.
Since they're the "dark side" of Starfleet and never really fit with the general gimmick it's interesting to think that literal mirror universe dickheads like Lorca and Georgieu might have had a hand in things.
Part of the fun of this show is seeing how much potential everything has, followed by the tension of when and how they'll fuck it up

Believe it or not there's debate about this subject since Kurtzman has claimed that DIS is canon. Steve Shives claims anyone who thinks it isn't canon are conspiracy theorists for instance

DIS just made them "Starfleet's dark side" when in DS9 the entire point is that Starfleet having a group that just does w/e it wants "for the greater good" is a bad thing and undermines it's message. DIS chooses to completely ignore this and doesn't even focus on things like "Is a group that is for peace and equality but does dirty underhanded shit hypocritical" and instead focuses on "look at these cool spec ops dudes with black starfleet badges."

Eyy I don't know how you got this impression at all. They seem as sinister as always and I haven't noticed anything remotely like it glorifying them as "cool spec ops dudes".
They seem like dicks and the most recent episode has them trying lying to the protag and trying to scramble Spock's brains.

It's a slow burn but this kind of thing seems to be the point of the ENTIRE SHOW in the case of STD. Everyone's an asshole and they all need to drop shrooms.

It's notable he attacks a single point in the video and doesn't refer to other pieces of evidence that point to the alternative license. He specifically focuses on the "the show needs to be stylistically different" and not "the show is different for merchandising reasons" thing. Which is the reality. It's why Abrams left he said that it was due to the merchandising squabble they had between CBS/Paramount and it's why Fuller left. And he was the one who created the show initially for CBS but then later for Paramount. Merchandising is why these shows are made in the first place. Star Trek barely breaks even in just ratings, merchandising is where it actually makes money. And that's where STD is failing right now.
He also makes the "it's just a show calm down guys" argument which is just a fallacy of relative privation argument, it attempts to ignore the evidence by saying "it doesn't matter even if you're right" and "canon is anything Kurtzman says it is"
