I know he's loved by many, largely for being one of the first and, production-wise, the most competent, Star Trek video reviewers and he's done good work, but does anyone else find some of Sonnenberg's act absolutely cringeworthy? Every time he starts putting on his evil Janeway voice for some of his gag attempts, you may as well automatically skip a minute, and his frequent pretension (like those character profile vids) is real sixth former analysis.
The 'all hail the overlord' business at the end of many of his vids is straight from the mind of what the spergiest Red Dwarf fan Warhammer painter would think is funny. It reminds me of those dweebs who Millman meets in the pub in Extras who love his sitcom.
What do people here make of him though?

Never watched a second of his shit.
I am able to form my own opinions about material I watch and if I wanted a second opinion I sure wouldnt get it from some YouTube faggot named sonnenburg, I would present my opinions to a group of individuals and listen to their points of view and possibly reach a new conclusion through some crude form of discussion/debate.
Not be spoon fed some load of tripe from a money grubbing camwhore who is in it for the views trying to book gigs at trek cons for the explicit purpose of getting upskirt shots of "old doctor blinky pulloffski"
Essentially, it's why I come to /strek/.

He reminds me too much of the reviewers of old - think the TGWTG type of spergs who tried to inject too much "lol randumb" humour or autistic screeching into their videos. And you know, I can tolerate reading tl;dr posts about why some character is shit or whatever, but having to listen to that is fully dependent on whether the guy can actually present his argument in a clear way (and has a good voice. Seriously, I close so many video reviews if the guy has a garbage voice). SFDebris, as far as I have seen, just goes on a rant and who the fuck has time for that.
I also think going through Trek on an episode by episode basis is only good in theory. There's a LOT of episodes where you really don't have a lot to say. So you try to compensate with fun facts and shit that you found in the manual and at that point, why should I watch your video when I can just get the book (legally, torrent it, whatever), keep it by my side and read some facts while the episode is running. At least online, when someone posts a fact they found in a book or an old interview, you can build a conversation on that (for example, was Ira Behr right in saying Dukat was literally Hitler and ending his storyline the way it did?). On a vid, you can just add a comment and hope some chuklefuck doesn't get offended in you having another opinion and the maker just deleting it because he "doesn't want drama : ((" and getting upboated to heaven because senpai showed up.
I like some reviewers, I'm a RLM fan and all, but SFDebris seems like he huffs his own farts and I also can't understand why people take his word as gospel. I swear to god, half the time when someone critizises Janeway or Lwaxana on the internet, you ask them why and they all say "well, SFDebris hates them and I agree!". Great fucking argument, guys, gg.

That's very true, people think his evil Janeway act (and it's such unfunny cancer as well) is a genuine representation of the character. It's like they don't even watch the show, or if they do are just empty vessels waiting to be filled with someone else's opinions. Argument from authority is what you describe there, and it's authority because he has made videos that people have watched. Weak!
And yet, I don't want to seem completely contemptuous. He can be very funny and say some interesting things. For anyone in a nerdy fandom, there's a sense that we like seeing things we like being talked about, particularly in a slick presentation. How else can we explain a complete talent vacuum like the Anti-Trekker getting an audience. He makes SF Debris look pantheon-tier in compairson.

I think he does a good job, speaking as somebody who doesn't like interweb crickets usually. His little skits are not a strong point, at least when they go on for more than five seconds. Of course his Janeway bits are calculated for maximum VOYboy rage, that's their strong point.

I like chuck's trek shit but I think he has a bit of a problem with this. To be fair I think a lot of popular internet critics run into this problem where they start doing content out of obligation rather than because they have anything to say. It's pretty bad with sfdebris were you have him doing animu and shit because some soyboy gave him a "donation" to talk about their favourite nerd shit.

Sagacious senpai. He's been around a long time though now, got to be over a decade. Had he not had to leave YouTube, I can only shudder at what the state of reviewdom would be there now.

Who? I have never watched a single jewtuber trek commenter guy or show, and won't start now. Same shit with any jewtuber media guy or team. Only thing worse then e-celebs are /tv/grade autists who thinks everyone else watches whoeverthefuck spouting about whateveroutoftheirass. I can do that myself with enough whiskey and tendies.

He's got enough faggots funding his life through Patreon for it.
I get there's a lot of people whose instinct is to say 'I don't watch Trek review cunts', but fact is it's popular enough that people are making livings from it, even if we think they're a bunch of rent seekers.

Jesus fucking christ I mean I guess it's either titty streaming on twitch or trying to milk the trek audience for a sure(r) bet. I once asked on another board what the fuck is the appeal of something like RLM, I watched 5 minutes of it and I had enough for a lifetime. And one of the replies was some people just don't have any company so they sub in jootube celebs for their companionship. Which is godamn depressing if true though not surprising considering that's how old media was too.

I think no small part is the factor mentioned earlier in the thread, that people like seeing the nerdy things they're interested in talked about by others. RLM is hit and miss, and the Plinkett stuff got old at warp speed. Sometimes they're funny though.

That's basically why I still watch Cinemassacre and AvE. When I'm not doing that I'm watching animu or reading a book.

AVGN's aiight. A bit crass but often creative too. Though you have to question the mental age of anyone amused by shitpickle or a robotic Jesus.
