I'm halfway through the first season and this is already just as good as any of the Star Trek series I've watched.

>stars Hercules as the most moralfag dude in the galaxy

>aliens are all clearly in costumes and facepaint, some are cool as fuck while others are literally painted purple

>the ship has an AI avatar that always shows off its tits

>constantly deals with religious themes

>hilariously cheesy even when Hercules isn't being a dick to have fun with his crew

>the design of every ship, gun, and uniform is top-notch

Why doesn't this get talked about even a fraction as much as Star Trek does? I imagine it would've been completely forgotten about if it didn't have Roddenberry's name attached to it.

Andromeda is a work by Gene Roddenberry, it is arguably more Star Trek than Farscape, The Expanse, BB5…or even STD, ENT, and VOY to be honest because only TOS, TNG, and DS9 had his touch.

Andromeda has some nice ideas, such an the use of EW and missiles as the main weapons in ship to ship combat, some of the aliens and ship designs.

It fails in a lot of ways though. especially when they introduce that obnoxious girl who's actually a sun in some abstract kind of way, and the bad guy who's a black hole, in some abstract kind of way and everything goes completely off the rails the last few seaons when every thing beings abstract, in an abstract kind of way.

Is it just me or does every scifi show besides Star Trek have an issue with seeming seedy and generic in comparison? To me it seems that tv programmers feel that the only reason to have a scifi show around is to be fodder for geeks, nerds, and weirdos (which I can self-admittedly say makes up %99 of all Star Trek fans), but they just try way too hard and in the wrong ways to impress that demographic purely for the cause of ROI insurance.

In the distant future an advanced commonwealth of worlds spanning three galaxies has collapsed and our captain a man out of time takes it upon himself to rebuild civilization from the ground up beginning by rebuilding a crew

There is no more epic story, and to be honest no better captain in science-fiction, it's a shame Kevin Sorbo can't get more roles because of Hollywood's discrimination against Christians, he would be great on any Star Trek cast.

Andormeda.

Was nice however the more episodes you watch the more you realize how shit it is.

The show is basically

"Random super models shoot one another and Hercules wins because he is Hercules and not only has plot armor, he has plot nuclear bombs"

The shows mythology is retarded.

The fuck was the abyss all about?

What where the Magog all about?

No seriously what was their religion and ideas?

Because in the world ship the religious magog is like

>This is not civilization, this is a abomination

And all we see is magog walking up walls.

So how is this a abomination? Exactly?

The show has all the Roddenberry's tropes to the max only made a million times more cheesy bordering on self parody.

>Religion is stupid

>Ignore the trolley problem, the plot will magically fix the situation it so you never need to think about it.

Then when the show tries to explain some of tits aliens its craziness example Nietzscheans:

>Survive of the fittest, everything for MY self and MY genetic reproduction

>Everything to avoid death, i will not commit suicide.

<Question why do you pilot fighters who get shot down a lot if this is your ideology?

<Should you not be cowardly and avoid wars like this (this is actually what real life survival of the fittest is)? You are basically behaving exactly like Klingon's.

<What where the chances of your sperm being formed? Millions to one! You beat these odes once you will beat them again

This is a actual line of dialog from the show paraphrased.

Laughably silly, so Nietzscheans need to be terrible at:

-Statistics (you beating the odds 1 time will make it LESS likely to do the same the second time!)

-Statistics + gambling (more then 99% of fighter pilots die in human wave tactics and you really think you will avoid this? )

-Facts (The other pilots where thinking the same thing its time to calculate it)

So for the Nietzscheans to make sense every one of them needs to be retarded or fail to understand statistics, something I find hard in a race that was supposed to manage star ships.

They also need to be bad at basic fact deduction (99% of fighter pilots die in the first wave).

You see Klingons make perfect sense because for them its

>Today is a good day to die!

And a warriors death in the glory of combat.

This thinking would be considered "suicidal" by the Nietzschean ideology.

Its strange that Andromeda was full of small craft combat and did have Nietzschean while Trek was more like gigantic warship combat and did have Klingons.

Because for Klingons the 99% death rate is actually 99% chance of getting a warriors death.

Of course the reasons for this is because CGi allowed for multiple ships while Trek used miniatures and was limited in technology.

Its only so strange to have the Nietzscheans when Klingons would fit better.

The best solution would be

1) Make star ship combat like on Trek gigantic warships shooting one another where the pilot is on one ship.

2) Don't make Nietzscheans have their idiotic ideology that can only be practiced in the way it is if every one of them is a complete moron and fails to understand basic statistics or even think.

In my life i have never seen a fictional race that can so easily be rendered inactive if this simple concept like statistics is explained to them.

Remember there is no honor for Nietzscheans only the spreading of the individuals genetic material.

>The fuck was the abyss all about?

>What where the Magog all about?

>No seriously what was their religion and ideas?

Abyss was a counterpoint to the Divine which was essentially the slipstream network….. the slipstream was more or less its brain, which is why areas between galaxies didn't have slipstream, and also why the slipstream required a thinking creature to run it. AI's famously could not travel in slipstream. The Divine DID NOT CREATE LIFE, but it does use lifeforms in our universe as pawns.

As an actual creature, the Abyss itself is an extremely powerful alien lifeform from another universe. It could create black holes, and was trying to destroy the Divine by destroying solar systems, and slowly crushing its neural network out. Why did it want to do this? No one knows. Magog are just its pawns, Abyss morphed them into monsters and imposed their retarded religion.

Neither Abyss nor Divine created anything, they're just massive galaxy spanning aliens that are trying to kill each other.

>So how is this a abomination? Exactly?

They're walking up walls of a hollowed out set of planets, which orbit an artificial sun in a massive dyson sphere the point of which is to serve as a flagship for a creature that wants to destroy multiple galaxies.

>Nietzscheans

They are concerned primarily with producing the highest quality offspring and ensuring the perpetual improvement of their family line, forever.

Showing how tough and worthy you are to the highest quality females is part of getting the highest quality offspring. Surviving long enough to fuck her is a part of that. Killing all opposition to your offspring is yet another part of that.

I'm sorry if you were looking for 2 dimensional Klingon warrior guys.

At least in the beginning, it's the perfect sci-fi show. It's endlessly quotable. It has poetry, and is poetry. Sci-fi and philosophy are sewn into the script. It's Captain America in space decades before The Avengers got to the big screen. Aaand things sort of go wonky and while we're waiting for it to pull out of it's nosedive, everyone dies and is still there and the show becomes terrible.

"I wish you would stop looking for beauty in things that want to kill us."

>>26210

The bug people WERE cheap foam costumes, but the design behind them is decent. You can hear their real chittering language, and then a second later the translator kicks in with a synthesized voice! Not only that, but the common script and spoken language in the show wasn't even human, it was bastardized Paradine, evolved precusor species. If a panel is shown on andromeda it's not just english written on it. The viewer is hearing english with the understanding that the entire cast spoke a non-native language, with exception of species which can't mouth the words, those species used translators which very clearly had a lag, and a syntehsized voice.

Than communicate by clicks on their carapace, Calderans communicate by high pitched whistles, and humans genetically modified for aquatic living communicate with sonar and speech. Pyrians communicate by infrared pulses, and CLEARLY have synthesized voices. Magog communicate by ultrasonic squeals which is never translated in show, except manually by Rev Bem.

Vedrans speak the main verbal language which is Paradine, the people who created Vedrans. The other species they fucked with genetically (humans/perseids/chichin) also speak verbal Paradine. So the only species talking to each other on the show without translators are those that have been genetically modified to be able to speak in a certain audible range.

The only species which doesn't need translators and hasn't been fucked with by Paradines are nightsiders (space kikes), who have no sex, and reproduce by shitting out tadpole-like creatures which eat each other and everything in their path, absorbing genetic material of sentient races, until finally they develop into terrestrial adults. They absorbed animal (mostly rat), human and perseid DNA hence their appearance in the show. Nietzscheans kill them for this.

There's <10 species in the entire show, spanning multiple galaxies, any extra variety is either genetic engineering or literal in-universe cosmetics used by humans or aliens.

That's better than TOS, which just has random headknob aliens speaking english and writing in english, singing british pirate drinking songs, and there's a billion different species living in a single star system. whose existence isn't explained.
