A true victory, Skrain, is the exact opposite of your attempts to seduce Major Kira. Still, your attempts have been quite humorous for those of us here - minus the Major herself of course - so, please, do continue.

Really, Skrain, this is getting sad. Resetting your connection to try to be other people singing your praises is a child's ploy. Let us not forget your greatest 'conquests' were when you had the might of the Cardassian military at your back. Once the Federation took control over Terok Nor and turned it into Deep Space Nine your record was failing at seducing Major Kira, destroying your marriage and finally succeeding - if you want to call it that - at sleeping with Adami Wynn of all people. Even Leeta wouldn't touch you. Consider that for a moment.

Come now Elim, there's no call for that sort of comment. There is a long and proud tradition of conquerors taking their concubines from amongst the women of the defeated people; a man who only has literature as a way to connect with his people should understand that better than most after all, as it is mentioned throughout the majority of Cardassian works. Now, as for my own … proclivities with Bajoran women, surely you can see why their company was appreciated on the lonely nights in the commanders quarters on Terok Nor. Maybe you're right and I should have simply had them spayed; but, well, you know I have always been a romantic.

I suppose you think you've found a juicy secret there, don't you Elim. That was always the way your sordid little brain worked; the Obsidian Order corrupts all that it touches. If you must know that was a project I had been working on for some time, I made the first moves shortly after taking office as Prefect of Bajor. You see, it was becoming clear that the Bajoran terrorist campaign would not be contained with conventional military action and Obsidian Order assassinations. As neither the Central Command or Detapa Council were prepared to acknowledge the recommendations I made I had to act somewhat beyond my authority in order to pacify the population and … persuade them to take their place as productive subjects of the Cardassian Union. Before you feel the need to make some tawdry, lewd, pun - no the plan was not to pacify them in my bed. By subverting and redirecting their quaint religious practices they could be made to see that it was in their best interests to cease their destabilisation of a vital resource production nexus. Whilst engaged in that research I came to know the love of the Pa Wraiths, and was honoured to be chosen as their representative and the prophet to bring their love to species of the Alpha Quadrant.

Bajoran Hell? Hah! You've been spending too much time listening to the Vedecs, or to that genetic freak occupying your medical bay. Imagine the difference we would see in Bajor and the Bajorans if their ancestors had accepted the love of the Pah Wraiths rather than the stultifying embrace of the Wormhole Inhabitants. They would have been more than happy to take their places in The Union, whether that was as labourers or as … personal assistants. It would have been beautiful.

I always knew Damar would make something of himself, after he crawled out of those Kanar bottles he was so fond of. I wonder if you would be so kind as to enlighten me on a particular topic, Elim. How do you cope?

To be clear, how do you cope with being such a failure that you were left behind when we left Bajor? How do you cope with the fact that your only … well not quite a friend, but you only company for the last few years has been a genetic freak who - while the best his species can provide - is still woefully beneath even your paltry level? How do you cope with knowing that your own father died wishing he had possessed the foresight to end you while you still grew inside your mother? I ask because I took the liberty of reviewing your service record and medical file while I held the rank of Legate, that little 'pleasure device' the Obsidian Order hammered into your skull does not seem powerful enough to cope with the shame you must feel for every moment of your existence.

I do not know how any Cardassian could cope with such shame. But then again I suppose that you barely deserve to be considered Cardassian in the first place. Go back to hemming skirts and hope that you an live on whatever scraps the Federation feels obliged to give you.

How am I coping? Well, what a thoughtful question. It's a humble existence, rebuilding our shattered world. I've volunteered in a emergency medical ward, turned my dear father's ruined house into a memorial for those slain by the Dominion on their way out of our home system and whatever other tasks these hands could perform.

I must confess to a certain quiet satisfaction in this existence. I'm sure it must seem rather quaint to someone who would put the boot of the Dominion on his own people's necks for the sake of his own personal power, but it pleases me none the less.

And yourself? How are the Fire Caves this time of year?

I am glad to hear that Cardassia is recovering. Just promise me that you will at least try not to give it all to the Federation. Congratulations on finally finding a decent profession too, Elim, 'He brought me a fresh bandage' will look so much better on your tombstone, particularly compared to 'I suppose that, technically speaking, he was a better than average liar'. I'm amazed at your lack of strategic and political acumen though; accusing me of signing up with the Dominion for personal gain, even a child could see my intention there.

At that point in the war it seemed obvious that the Dominion would win the war, and particularly after the Obsidian Order made common cause with the Romulans (of all people) it was clear that Cardassia and the Cardassians would suffer greatly once they were conquered, if they were not completely destroyed as recompense for your comrades actions against the founders. I was able to make contact with the representatives of the founders and salvage the situation. By allying Cardassia with the Dominion I ensured that we survived and became the central power in the Alpha Quadrant. I was able to show that snake Weyoun that naked force was not always the best, or final, solution; it's just a shame that Damar was not able to keep Weyouns education going.

As for the fire caves, I have no idea, why would you assume I was still in there? Surely you do not take the word of Benjamin Sisko without at least some scepticism. I suppose he told you that the 'Prophets themselves' saved him and cast me down? I'll never understand your childish trust in that mans word. Anyway, how goes the love life Elim? As you won't have tortured any fathers to death recently you must at least have found a good, intelligent, beautiful and innocent young girl to corrupt with your … affections.

Look at DS9 and compare it to any starfleet station, or klingon, or romulan. Cardassians put a ridiculous amount of effort into beauty.

I think it's because of their obsession with conformity. Because every element of say, architecture, fits together with every other elements - because nothing clashes with anything else, the composition looks very impressive.

Honestly, the Orville feels like it's lacking something. It's too clean, too safe, it's empty calories and fizzy water. It's like the Orville and STD started out as some single decent modern star trek show, but got spit in two in a transporter accident, and even though everyone likes the Orville better because it's the good, nice half and hates STD because its the bad half, neither side can really be a whole complete healthy being on it's own.

It might look like it from an outside view but the first season of The Orville was made to introduce each member of the bridge crew and some of the stories weren't that clean or safe though (the Krill episode, the one with the Moclan society, Prya).

Pff, their budget wasn't too impressive. It's mostly the same sets used over and over, most of the TNG/VOY budget goes into exploring new planets and races/Holodeck episodes which is what DS9 barely has.

There is a huge difference between main sets and one-off sets. On TNG or TOS space station setd were one-offs. On DS9 it was the whole fucking point of the show.

I like the station. And the fact they spent so much effort on the Cardassian design. But my point is that when it comes to budget, one-off-sets are where it rally shows. Most DS9 one-offs are caves if I remember it correctly. Holo episodes do not exist except Vic Fontane's casino. Don't get me wrong, I don't have the actual numbers, but I remember VOY having one-offs more often and more luminious as well.

Sure but at the end of the day it's still about making sure that you stay within the budget.

On a show like Star Trek, you can't just come up with original/wacky designs for each episode. You can't create a new set every week that you will only use once. Storage is also expensive. I remember during the BSG remake they had to get rid of the Pegasus in season 3 because they couldn't afford to pay anymore for the third hangar/studio where the Pegasus set was.
