Wil Wheaton is upset over a toy. He also still lives in delusion that people cared about Weasel Crusher.

If you're ever having a bad day /strek/ remember you are not and will never be Wil Wheaton.

Help me resolve something.

>wil wheaton is a massive twat who thought he was too good for sci fi, failed to accomplish anything, and now is desperate for attention

>wil wheaton plays the above for laughs on le nerd blackface show

>any mention of wil wheaton being a massive twat reinforces the connection to le nerd blackface show, and the new 'geek chique'

>wil wheaton being a twat and an irrelevant failure makes him relevant to the 'geek chique'

This all seems to convenient and self reinforcing to be happenstance, but then again, wheaton isn't near cunning enough to pull this off deliberately.

Shitting on Wil/Wes is a valid meme, but I've been re-watching Season 3 of TNG for some meme fodder of my own and I have to admit that at least back then Wes was very good for ramping-up the anxiety on the bridge during tense scenes. Maybe it's his boyish vulnerability, but having that kind of character in scenes for "holy fuck we're all gonna die" lines was useful. In truth, they probably should have replaced his character when his mom left for Season 2 with something like pic related as a permanent character. I don't think Ro Laren fit that role because she's honestly too confident, skrong, and capable (and she came too late anyway). Being able to worry that something might happen to our cutie at the con every episode would have done wonders. This is clear when I see the Wil scenes. I just replace him with her.

The concept for a character like Wesley is brilliant; it was a great way to show a connection between the doctor and the captain through commitments to family and duty in service. What went wrong?

For starters, the concept itself is hardly brilliant. No matter how smooth the dialogue or how competent the actor, the concept of a smarmy underage know-it-all will always come off as at least a bit obnoxious. It was made substantially worse in TNG specifically because two factors. First, the walking deus-ex-machina that was Wesley was written by Roddenberry as an idealized vision of himself at a younger age. Second, because Wil Wheaton himself is such a colossal fag, the hatred that people feel for him is projected onto any character he portrays onscreen. As a result, Wesley went from merely an irritating character to a truly insufferable one because of the soyboy playing him.

Shut your soymouth up wesley is quite a badly done character, but is there any info on what appears to be missing time between huwheaton's tolerable "Stand By Me" and TNG's STFU wesley? What happened in that time frame to him so that future generations can learn to avoid his sad outcome.

The sad truth is the Wheaton has always been an insufferable cunt. Being that much of a whiny faggot is not something that can be learned. The average person has enough self-awareness and humility to recognize when they've begun to act like a twat and dial it back. Wheaton spent his entire life believing he deserved better. He was not transformed into what he is now, that's just merely his natural state.

>what went wrong?

in a lot of cases, the initial instincts for tng during early development were correct and they only fucked it up by over-thinking it. Wesley is one of those. The character was originally supposed to be female and that would have worked-out better since they probably would have casted an actress who was a few years younger. No idea how it would have worked with Gates leaving for a season, but otherwise Leslie Crusher or whoever could have conceivably spent her entire teenage years on the Enterprise during TNG's run and only left for the Academy once the show wrapped-up. Both Wes and Wil were both unnervingly boyish for their ages. A tomboy-ish girl could be trivially retrofitted, tbh.

Other instances of them fucking-up TNG by otherthinking are the 75-year time-skip (it was originally supposed to be literally the next generation after TOS) and swapping Marinara Sertis and Denise Cosby's roles. That would have played out sooooo much better all-around if Sertis played Yar and Crosby played Troi and the Counselor was blacked to death in mid 1st season.

I wouldn't let current_year trigger you. Shit could be annoying in retrospect, but in the 80's and even 90's it wasn't that bad. it woulnd't have been Rey Mixer from Star Wars tier bullshit. Yeah, but doesn't it seem like they could have worked-around it? It's not like nuTrek where you're presumably telling the story of the crew in their prime. The entire TOS film franchise involves the crew being too old. If they had to still do the movies, they could have told 2 or 3 unconventional stories set in a shared timeline with shared events. ST6 could just as easily been set on the Excelsior exclusively or with Spock solving the mystery on the next-gen Enterprise instead of the Enterprise-A. They ended-up doing a shit-ton of crossovers anyway. They deserved better than long lifepsans, transporter gimmicks and temporal anomaly bullshit.

Worf joining the cast of DS9 really breathed new life into the show in my opinion. It caused the show to have more Klingon centric episodes which lead to a ton of really good episodes. Worf himself also had a ton of great moments throughout. Like the writers finally gave him an opportunity to prove himself in combat after getting the shit kicked out of him in every episode of TNG.

Fucking selfish little shit, even if you think you're in the right what the fuck is honorable about disgracing your family, destroying your brother's life, and refusing the call of your people in their time of need? Further, it would have set up so much potential depth to the Feddie/Klingon breakup, and allow for more interesting and nuanced episodes in that regard. If Worf at least temporarily sided with the Klingons against the spoonheads, he could be in a position where both the Federation and the Empire are either trying to wine and dine him, or discredit him, using him as a pawn in the cold war that's sprung up between the two. Just for example, in that false flag trial episode, you could have had S31 covertly helping out the Klingon lawyer, because Worf being in Klingon custody played into some "just as planned" shit they had going on to restore relations and fight against the Dominion. And you could have other episodes like that, but making a genuine effort to make the Klingon side of things look sympathetic as well as the Federation, instead of just making the Klingons useful idiots that were strung along by changeling-Martok. And after all this conflict between two parts of his identity you could have Worf be the one that orchestrates the reconciliation of the two powers against the Dominion, which serves as a very organic springboard for him becoming ambassador in the series finale, and certainly much more meaningful and vindicating than "well I guess he's Klingon so he can be ambassador."

Bare in mind Worf has a different background with his people than other klingons do. Since he was raised around humans and joined a primarily human organization and swore an oath of service to them. In a lot of ways abandoning the people he's worked his entire life to prove himself to for a group of people he's biologically related to but generally couldn't care less about him would be more dishonorable.

While Worf does appreciate and admire his culture he isn't a slave to it. He's a much more nuanced character in this regard than a lot of the other klingon characters in the series.

I never hated Wesley. There were some episodes where he came off wrong, or the "child genius" angle was pushed to cringey levels, even for 1988/1989, but straight-up depicting Wes as a whiny little kid is a disservice to the series. If they're going to throw the seasons into a blender to make the minifigs, at least use one of the later Wesleys, instead of the episode where he gets shanked by pig-french photon-musket things.

To me, it's not about Wil. It's about TNG. I won't disagree that Wil, the actor, does things and says things that are distasteful, irritating, and politically opposite to me in every way. I won't also disagree that when he gets his comeuppances in real life, he's earned them. But, when it comes to the character, and the TNG series as a whole, I would never let my personal disagreements with the actor's personal life interfere with how I would depict the character they played. Heck, Wil would probably hate my guts in real life because I voted Trump, but I don't care - this is about the series, not him.

That said, if I'd done the minifigs, I would have picked "Acting Ensign Crusher" and put a face on him evocative of curiosity and naiveté (arched eyebrows, slightly open mouth, as though he's saying "Oh, wow!"). His time in the grey uniform was, in my opinion, his best moments, and at the same time, highlighted the least cringe. If not that, then the pivotal Cadet uniform, where he came close to screwing everything up for the rest of his life, and a fairly neutral face. This to honor the series, and to depict the characters at their best.

Wesley didn’t work, and he is 100% an addition by the man who was the stupidest person involved in Star Wars, Gene Roddenberry. The writers hated him but Gene wanted a kid genius on the show. The chances for Wesley to shine - like the Final Mission- the character didn’t deliver, even leaving aside Wheaton’s horrible acting,

I used to feel bad for Wil Wheaton, because Wesley being shit wasn’t entire his fault. As noted, the writers disliked the character. But Wil is a massive prick all on his own, with an inflated sense of importance who thinks he has some voice to speak for nerds or even worse be some kind of leader of them. Wheaton is the same fuck who went after Hayden Christensen for being a lousy actor and flipped out when people pointed out he was Wesley Crusher and in no way shape or form able to talk.

The best thing ever is thay William Shatner met him and said he never would have let them put a kid on the bridge in the old series, and Wheaton went off and cried like a faggot.

I'm not sure if that was an honest typo but I sensibly chuckled, since that is one thing SW and ST shared. Each of the creator is really better at coming up with the general overview of things and their respective creation can be argued succeeded in spite of them at times. Oh yeah and both in their current year incarnation are shit thanks to J.Jew, though even he is just a symptom of a larger problem.

>Wheaton is the same fuck who went after Hayden Christensen for being a lousy actor and flipped out when people pointed out he was Wesley Crusher and in no way shape or form able to talk.

Wait really? Wheaton's character is closer to the level of Jar Jar though. Christensen's performance, anne frankly a lot of other actors got straitjacketed into wooden performances in the prequels. Even Jackson appeared to be medically sedated in ep1. But Wheaton is upselling himself and failing badly if he really tried to lambast Christensen's performance.

I'd have to agree there. Christensen seemed to me a pretty good actor through the prequels, most of the "he can't act" shit is the result of a few instances of clunky dialogue and slightly autistic directing. George Lucas is great for overall story and visual directing but he can't write dialogue at all.

I'd agree to a point, THX, American Graffiti, the original trilogy, and the first 2 indiana jones, ok sure. Everything outside of that, I'd say there is a good case to be made that Lucas is more similar to Roddenberry with this part

>talented people to work on the show\movie\properties

The heavy lifting of the visual groundwork is largely due to Syd Mead's work. Lucas's initial napkin ideas with SW were not that great, especially the first draft stuff. Which is fine in the context that hey most first draft are hot garbage most of the time, it's all about sifting, re-iterations, refining and polishing the nuggets that are gold and not turds. Around the time of the prequel for some reason Lucas really fell deep into the CG technology>everything else autism hole, with him fucking around JarJar's eyebrows and forgetting that even a popcorn space cheese opera movie should not be just a glorified tech demo reel for ILM.

Personally, I think the SW prequels get a bad rap. Yes, they're far from perfect, and certainly not on the level of the OT, but there's some good stuff there. I liked the worldbuilding, such as the portrayal of the Jedi Order as a mirror image of the crumbling Republic. Young Obi-Wan was nice, and barring Jar-Jar and shoto Anakin the characters were good in concept, even if they were poorly executed at times. Since those faggots at RLM released their autistic review of TPM, it's become trendy among hipster types to hate the PT and sperg about how it "raped their childhood", which is ridiculous. Okay I'll turn off my autism now.

>I liked the worldbuilding, such as the portrayal of the Jedi Order as a mirror image of the crumbling Republic. Young Obi-Wan was nice, and barring Jar-Jar and shoto Anakin the characters were good in concept, even if they were poorly executed at times.

That's the keyphrase there, concept is actually okay-ish, but a lot of the execution got fucked, though I'd say the expanded stuff that surrounds the prequels can be good to very fucking good. (The 2d micro series, Republic Commando game. Jesus christ even the podracing game was kinda okay.)

Meh, I don't watch that shit. I never even heard of them until some /tv/ turbo autist was going around accusing anyone who doesn't like the prequel as a disney nu SW shill, or RLM lickers.

Though I am old enough now to remember when F Zero was an SNES game, and a point in time where SW games had a 50/50 chance of okay to suck at best, I was never a huge racing game player, so it's a backhanded compliment that I even remember it. You're lucky I don't confuse it with SW:Starfighter or Yoda Stories. :^)

That theory is reddit-meme tier, it never had any real basis in reality, and was based entirely on one autistic redditpost and an out of context clip of George say Jar-jar "was they key to all this." I think a better interpretation of that quote is to assume he thought Jar-jar as a comic relief character was the "key" to making the movies kid friendly. Personally, I think the character would have worked much better as a drunkard that had a bit of luck on his side, as opposed to a complete retard constantly being saved by deus ex machina. Polite sage for offtopic.

Nigger what? Most of the compelling "evidence" for that comes in AotC, where Binks is the one who proposes giving emergency powers to Sheev. In TPM, the only evidence is him miraculously surviving through a series of (((coincidences))) that's used as a supporting argument. And the emergency powers argument falls apart in RotS, in which Binks is clearly shown as very distraught at the outcome of events, regretting the consequences of his earlier action.

i can support this. her radiant feminine charm and youthful beauty would have allowed me to tolerate her precocious, meddlesome tendencies and involvement in show plots provided she still acted like a girl and wasn't written as a boy. Just a few years later and I wouldnt have trusted B&B or the other writers to create such a character, though. Things really changed in the early 90's. By 92-93, they would have made her an edgy tomboy.

>TPM has the most compelling evidence

In the interests of putting this reddit faggotry to bed, let’s discuss the evidence:

1) Jar Jar jumps really high when he dives in the water

2) Jar Jar seems to finish people’s sentences as they talk, because clearly he is using mind control on them

3) Jar Jar was excommunicated from the gungans because he was an evil wizard and not because he was clumsy, even though he is accepted back and has apparently perfect mind control so how they found out he was evil is difficult to determine.

4) Jar Jar gets down off a balcony and is suddenly somewhere else, which must be evidence he is a sith lord.

5) Jar Jar destroys several trade federation droids in the final battle, which is evidence of his perfect precog.

6) In an episode of robot chicken, Lucas said Jar Jar was supposed to be a christ figure and the purpose of the series. This was not really a joke but a confession.

7) Because of this, Jar Jar is Plagueis and will be revealed to be Snoke in TFA (yes, this was part of the initial theory).

All of these points are pretty weak and don’t stand up to scrutiny. The only oddity is Jar Jar seeming to mouth people’s words, but that is the animators trying to put the first extensively used CGI character in the scene. Given that Jar Jar is pretty unintelligent, it’s likely he repeats what people are saying to himself (I’ve seen people who do this).

Apologies. At a Birdwatchers of Reddit meet-up (where i'm from), I once made the mistake of referring to a White-Throated Sparrow as merely a "bird". A blue hair shrieked that I was "confused" and problematic, then threw xir's plate of Eggs Over My Hammy at my head.
