272001 No.14262 [View All]
Barring TOS, which first watched through and through sometime last year, I haven't seriously sat down to watch the series since I first watched them in middle and early high school. I was still a bit bluepilled at the time, and just by retrospect I can see I'd view many of the episodes in a different light. Any other anons planning to watch everything again, or have done so recently? Should I bother re-watching anything besides TNG and DS9?

Always? Don't lie, it took several months for /leftypol/ to work its way up the top 25. Naturally, the board has gotten shittier the more popular it's become.

Board traffic rankings are determined by unique IP ranges that connect, not actual human traffic.
After the site hacking a couple years ago, CM reinstated the boards in order of actual popularity (discrete IP connections and discarding bots). This gives you a better idea of how many people actually go to /leftypol/. It was top 3 or 4 back then too.

Well, of course it's inflated. You'd be a fool to post on /leftypol/ without a VPN, and I've posted there every day for 3 years. The raiding certainly doesn't hurt the board ranking either.
Does that mean that /a/ is actually the most popular board on 8chan?
tbh this entire site's gone to shit since Hotwheels left

I tried to rewatch the whole of Voyager a year ago or so. I made it to season 4 having sat through each episode end to end without skipping around. I can't remember a single goddamn thing about any episode in particular, just vague recollections that the holodeck was a bar, the ship's computer had a fever and that the ship's very presence above a warp time-fucked planet uplifted a species to space travel. I skipped around the remaining seasons and couldn't be bothered to finish what I set out to do. By the end of the experience I felt like cellulose heavy flabby ass.

Fuckin lolberts
"It’s socialist in the literal sense that the government has near-total control over the economy and the means of production. Especially by the period portrayed in The Next Generation, the government seems to control all major economic enterprises, and there do not seem to be any significant private businesses controlled by humans in Federation territory. Star Fleet characters, such as Captain Picard, boast that the Federation has no currency and that humans are no longer motivated by material gain and do not engage in capitalist economic transactions."

I remember reading somewhere that the federation economy was managed by some very complex vulcan barter system.
but anyway, in a future were you can just teleport in food and clothing with magic (ie how socialists think money already works today) it would be easier to live without it.

Picard BOASTS humans are no longer motivated by material gain, i.e it's the ostensible moral norm in TNG, but people probably still violate it all the time just like we do with today's norms
Your attempt to make your favorite TV show fit your politics would be sad if it weren't so amusing
Also, IRL socialists still bicker about whether or not to use currency, so not too surprising the writers couldn't make their minds up

Personally what'd I do (if you have time, this is sort a long term proposition) is watch one episode a week of TOS, TNG and DS9 in broadcast order. Not necessarily from Man Trap to Leave Behind sequentially since that'd take six million years; I think watching a weekly TOS and then going immediately into the weekly TNG is fine, as it'll take awhile before TNG even begins to heavily reference TOS/TMP. You may want to space them out on different days though, like TOS on Saturday and TNG on Sunday. I'd also hit the first movies on a "once a month" tempo to emulate the great time between film releases.
Once you get TOS/TMP out of the way, around the middle of Season 6 of TNG or the start of Season 7, start running DS9 and TNG side-by-side using the same once-a-week tempo. It's around this time broadcast-wise that DS9 came on the air, and you'll also notice that O'Brien leaves after the "everyone turns into a loli/shota" episode. It should take you several years to do this all to completion, but I did try a limited version of this once with a season or two and it definitely produced a different feel than shotgunning everything in one go.

>different feel
How so? I decided to just start on TNG and work my way forward (having watched all of TOS fairly recently, I don't see much point in the side-by-side), usually watching 1-2 episodes a day, with breaks of a couple days in between. Skipping all Wesley/Traveller episdoes, as well as the ones I remember being especially cringey, like the Ferengi intro episode or that one where king of Planet Africa wants to marry Yar.

You know after rewatching "For the Cause" the Federation broke the law to nab someone who was providing humanitarian aid, even if they were considered enemies of the Federation keep in mind Feds keep access to things like medical supplies absolutely unrestricted. Cassidy Yates was convicted illegally with evidence that if it was provided in court would have absolutely destroyed the Federation if made public:
>Unwarranted search of a civilian transport
>Using a cloaked vessel to stalk a civilian ship
>Using a Romulan cloaking device that was loaned to the Federation with the sole condition that it be used only in the Gamma Quadrant
Seriously the Federation couldn't have blundered this hard unless they opened a rift to Fluidic space and told Species 8472 to go suck their dick.

Actually the scene is comical because Picard is supposed to sneak around and watch out for the Borg.
He is whispering because he is afraid the Borg will spot them.

Make a game out of the writers flip flopping if he is a tool or a person.
