Does anyone on /rwby/ genuinely believe that Cinder is Ruby's mother? If so, what evidence/theories do you have to make it work? I remember when I first started watching RWBY waaay back in V1, I theorized that Cinder was Ruby's mom. I'm not sure if the theory would still be viable, given what we know now about the characters (Summer Rose in particular).

However, I am still convinced that Qrow is Ruby's real father.

Silver Eyes is kind of what killed it for me, too (I had come up with this theory years ago during V1, we knew hardly anything about Ruby's parents or Cinder back then aside from the Red trailer and the girls mentioning Taiyang offhand.)
I suppose her eyes could be explained as contact lenses, part of her Semblance, or maybe an aftereffect of becoming the Fall Maiden. Though that still raises the question of why Qrow didn't recognize her in the fight, but I would assume plastic surgery exists on Remnant too.
Overall, it is a pretty far-fetched suggestion, and I doubt the writers would actually do it because of how absurd it sounds (then again, they did do a lot of stuff solely for shock value in V3…). But I'm mainly revisiting the theory because I recently was thinking about how this twist would affect Ruby as a character–she idolizes her mother, and is heavily inspired by her. How would it affect her to know the person she's worshipped all these years is evil?

Eh. it seemed like a good theory till they said Summer had silver eyes as well. I know Monty (f) himself killed the Qrow theory as well, but I can't really get over how much Ruby looks more like Qrow than anyone else. True, she has him as her hero, but if we go by look:

It's possible that Ruby just inherited more from her mother. I personally inherit most of my physical traits from my father, and very few from my mother. It could easily be the same case with Ruby.

As for Ruby's last name, I personally think that is just an indicator of her wanting to be like her mom, not because she isn't Taiyang's daughter (See my earlier post talking about how she idolizes Summer). Also, if Ruby knows that she isn't Taiyang's, she never says anything to that effect. She seems to treat him like her real dad.

What was even the point of giving yang and ruby different mothers? It just creates this completely superfluous convolution of shit to think about for no reason. I swear there is not one facet of this show that isnt fucked up and tainted with dumb shit.
As for the OP question: I don't think Cinder is at all related to Ruby, let alone her mother. It makes no sense for one thing, and it also seems like Cinder is too young to already have a child of Ruby's age.
I'd guestimate Cinder to be at the most 28 yrs old. If Ruby's 15 that means Cinder would've had a child at 13. Which I highly doubt.

Colorful language aside, I kind of agree. The Rose/Xiao Long family tree is complex enough as it is without the Qrow or Cinder twists happening.
I had assumed that Cinder was in her early to mid 30s, maybe even late 30s. Maybe Taiyang and Summer/Cinder hooked up pretty quickly after graduating? Also, with this show's art style, it isn't that easy to determine the age of some characters. For example, Ozpin, aside from his gray hair, appears to be in his 30's (maybe 40's if we're pushing it), but said gray hair and some of the things he says suggest he is much older. It could be somewhat of the same thing with Cinder, where she is older than her appearance would suggest.

As it appears that Ozpin is that "good" God from the lore episode, that would make Salem the "evil" god. It could be that Summer ran into an earlier phylactery of Salem, killed her, and was thus possessed. While it appears that Ozpin doesn't control Shota-Ex-Machina Oscar, it could just be Ozpin's "god" style: he would rather convince humans to act of their own free will than control them.
