Why would we feel sad over somebody who we've barely gotten to know, who knew that she was probably going to die and chose to regardless?
Could have tried to meet up with stragglers and muster up at least some backup, could have let Jaune go with her (even though we understand she didn't want him in danger because of her decision)…nope.
Assuming she genuinely thought that she could take on Cinder and win, that's a case of overestimating her ability.

The original script had her beating Cinder's ass in a display of technical know-how running roughshod over brute force, and then Jaune would do something stupid/incompetent and get her killed.
Ruby x Jaune was always the intended pairing. Pyrrha dying was supposed to be their mutual "we're dead inside now" event over which they can both mourn and eventually bond over as they return to the familiarity of the relationship that was set up for them in season 1: being highschool kids-next-door. They knew it was just context-building, all 3 first seasons. This was always the plan. Jaune x Pyrrha fans got rused hard.
Really, has a show ever trolled a fanbase as hard as setting up a relationship 3 seasons in advance and then leading viewers on to think it's gonna be someone else?

It's only unbelievable at first glance because we didn't know that the first three chapters were just framing context for the "real" story. Monty had something like 10 chapters planned and everyone in-house knew ahead of time that they were intentionally setting up a faulty expectation, a technique to make viewers identify with the bereavement that the entire cast and even setting has just gone through.
This was the way it was always going to be. They warned us in the songs. We didn't listen.
