What does asexual, polyamorous dating mean exactly? Is it distinguishable from friendship?

>I’m saying that I’ve seen polycules with those demographics–for god’s sake, I worked at Google in the Bay–and while no one had a written OPP, the vast majority of those excess men were dating in name only. Because of status games and desire to be capital-P Poly, women would take secondaries…but not sleep with them, or be intimately available, or do anything else someone not in Rationalist Tumblr would identify as “dating.”

>Those men took the deal (“sure, you can say we’re in a Poly relationship, just don’t touch me, loser”) because the alternative was being single. I can’t entirely blame them, though it’s not for me. But the net effect is the same as a few high status people keeping harems.

>It is possible your network is different. And for the people who aren’t mostly straight and heterosexual, I could even believe that was likely - dynamics there are not like those in straight dating. But it’s more likely, without overwhelming evidence, that for straight people most every polycule is going to follow the familiar paths. And claims that this time it’s different are easy to say and hard to enforce m

In fairness, Scott is sufficiently high status that he's probably asexual by choice. I mean, status in this community is really suboptimal for meeting women, but he's sooo high status that he probably has at least one or two options that a normal person would also want.

The bay area sounds awful. In NYC people making even entry level google money would have no problem getting dates. Though, I think the minimum social skills threshold is higher here. So that's a trade-off.

Anyway, it doesn't seem like that's the dynamic going on with scott. He's a doctor, he's in the midwest, and he's at least niche famous. I can't see why he wouldn't have options.

Yeah, some people seem to think there exists something called "romance" that is distinct from friendship or sex or friendship and sex. I'm not really sure what they're talking about either but enough people report experiencing it that it's probably a thing.

>Love is certainly greater than its parts, but its parts are mutual friendship and mutual lust. There's no third orthogonal component.

Nope, there is also limerance: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerence

>Limerence involves intrusive thinking about the limerent object.[1] Other characteristics include acute longing for reciprocation, fear of rejection, and unsettling shyness in the limerent object's presence. In cases of unrequited limerence, transient relief may be found by vividly imagining reciprocation from the limerent object. Tennov suggests that feelings of limerence can be intensified through adversity, obstacles, or distance - 'Intensification through Adversity'.[15] A limerent person may have acute sensitivity to any act, thought, or condition that can be interpreted favorably. This may include a tendency to devise, fabricate, or invent "reasonable" explanations for why neutral actions are a sign of hidden passion in the limerent object.

>A person experiencing limerence has a general intensity of feeling that leaves other concerns in the background. In their thoughts, such a person tends to emphasize what is admirable in the limerent object and to avoid any negative or problematic attributes.

Uh any board not dominated by /pol/yps? For instance, try throwing "nigger" around on /leftypol/ and see how it is before someone tells you to fuck off back to /pol/ regardless of the other content of your post.

But your example of "not being a /pol/ hugbox" is /leftypol/, which has its own reasons for being exceptionally prone to saying "fuck off back to /pol/".

Also, y'know, tone arguments are bullshit anyway, whether using the word "nigger" on 8chan is an unusually offensive tone to take isn't really relevant to that.

>But your example of "not being a /pol/ hugbox" is /leftypol/

And like I explained, I used that as an example because that's the only other 8chan board I read besides /pol/ and /ratanon/. Are you claiming there are no other 8chan boards besides /leftypol/ (and /ratanon/, evidently) where people will get irritated by /pol/-tier posting style?

>Also, y'know, tone arguments are bullshit anyway

I'd say tone arguments are somewhat relevant in that an overly insulting tone can derail the kind of autistically genteel discussion style favored by most "internet rationalists" (this board is for the most part not an exception, sure there may be some more salty sailor talk here than on the lesswrong or slatestarcodex comments but it's usually directed at people/ideas other than fellow posters).

Honestly, I'm not even trying to insult people except when it furthers the cause of shitposting, I'm just appropriating ebonics and refusing to do the thing where you contextually spell it "nigga".

I mean, considering the demographic makeup of (((rationalists))), "nigger" is kind of a shit insult vs the typical anon here, isn't it?

Saying "nigger" isn't even strictly /pol/ behavior. People were shitposting about nigs on /b/ long before there ever was a /pol/ or /new/ back on 4chan. /leftypol/ is the recent exception not the rule.

Keep /pol/ in /pol/ is about not jacking off over Hitler, not about not being racist. Racism is like air here.

>Saying "nigger" isn't even strictly /pol/ behavior. People were shitposting about nigs on /b/ long before there ever was a /pol/ or /new/ back on 4chan.

This is a fact.

>Keep /pol/ in /pol/

"Keep /pol/ in /pol/' is nothing more than moot's explicitly partisan preferences being deliberately seeded into 4chan culture over time. It should have no relevance here. If you are truly a rationalist, then you should have the intellectual skillset to semantically extricate the partisan (or even "offensive") attributes of any given post from its remaining meaning and therefore any restriction on partisan expression (including that in the realm of the "offensive") is unncessary in such a context. Grow up niggers.

Not jacking off over Hitler is still good though, because A: it's been done to death, at least be interesting and worship Strasser or something, and B: Hitler was a complete failure and his actions largely led to the psychotic anti-racism we deal with today. He destroyed Europe for revanchist bullshit. C: it's just all German supremacy crap in the end. /pol/ acts as if the English and Russians should hate their ancestors because of WWII. The Brit/pol/ threads got purged of dissenters for the charge of essentially being too racist for /pol/ and not wanting to lick German boots. It's all shallow aesthetic LARP wankery in the end.

D: The users there are deeply deeply insane from spending too much time chasing unverifiable conspiracy theories.

Keep /pol/ in /pol/ is good advice not because oo-er dats waycist but because the /pol/ consensus (as much as try to pull the implying /pol/ is one person meme it does exist) is centered around stormfront tier bullshit that is stale as fuck at this point. /pol/ is only good in small doses when there are "happenings" going on, and when something spurs them to action against some outsider. The rest of the time you could write a script with just 100 lines of code and replicate the activity of the entire board reliably. Racism isn't the problem there.
