Anyone calling themselves a "rationalist" without predicting a Trump victory is a cucked retard.

I *did* predict the Trump victory, that's the thing! I posted so many smug faces about it!
I was this close to putting all my money on Trump yesterday morning when the odds were 4:1, but then I thought, as a "rationalist", that by the efficient market hypothesis the betting markets should know better than me and I was just buying into the hype.
I even dreamed, that night (UK timezone), that I'd bet my money on Trump and that Clinton had won. It took ages for the reality to set in when I got up this morning and checked the internet.

>Venezuela used to be an up-and-coming country with one of the fastest-growing economies in South America. And then they elected an impulsive populist leader who made a few decisions he probably didn't think were that bad at the time, and now Venezuela is on the verge of being a failed state.
I like how he "forgets" to mention SOCIALISM when talking about Venezuela.

any estimates for p(moves to a foreign country | is a celebrity who said he/she’s moving to a foreign country if Trump is elected)?
I would have just said “Canada” instead of “a foreign country”, but Samuel L. Jackson said he’s moving to South Africa if Trump gets elected.

The night of the elections (I live in europe) I dreamed that Peter Thiel and Milo Yannapoulos were married and Thiel had a youtube channel where he posted dank memes.
In retrospect I consider this an omen (I said omen, not homo) from Kek.

Hah. Thiel CEO of USA when. I'm really intrigued for what he'll do!
But we'll need Musk to prevent climate change.
I'm not sure what to think of this outcome, but there are at least two positive things with it: we get to see what Thiel wanted to do, and US gets friendlier to Russia so there's less threat of nuclear war. Even North Korea hate the US a little less now.

Really. The scientific consensus really is for it. What incentive would a group have to push that belief if it's not true? It's not like climate change helps minorities or something.

I don't think that climate change is a hoax, but come on.
Just look at I-732. A solid piece of environmental legislation, it was opposed by the left because it didn't bribe their constituencies. Progressives basically see climate change as a cudgel to use to achieve other goals, and they've been good at using that cudgel. It's just the latest excuse for anti-capitalism.

Okay, I can believe that. Sorry, I'm not actually American and I wasn't aware.
> because it didn't bribe their constituencies
I thought the poor families that it was going to help with the raised money would've been left's constituencies? Maybe Trump constituencies now…

Poor families only count if they're non-white or non-traditional sexual orientation. Poor whites have been abandoned by the American left, or at least that's perception that let Trump win the Rust Belt.

"The working class are voting for right wing nationalists! Fucking prole scum!" is itself a right wing argument. It's just a international capitalist one.
Unless you want to say "The innocent working class were duped by a racist capitalist" then you're safely back into left wing territory. It's all about framing.

Weird. I've never been tempted to hate jews and black people here because of other rationalist spaces. usually it's all the leftist normies elsewhere on the internet that bring out my inner /pol/ack.
Even then, /pol/ just bores me. It's like they don't have any hobbies except hating jews and black people.

You just notice them more because you expect. I've adopted an unorthodox "kill whites because they are inferior to jews, and kills jews because they are inferior to superintelligent AI" persona that I'm trying out.
I think if anything the true consensus of ratanon is genocide, which is the logic conclusion of any rational being that wants to exert its interests.

Like what do you think Friendly AI is all about?
Eliezer knows that coherent extrapolated blah is gibberish, so what he's trying to do is trick people into funding an AI that has Eliezer's values. Eliezer thinks that humans are replication maximizers so his "fear" of paperclip maximizing AI is mostly projection.
He wants to be the maximizer, just with polyamory and bad fan fiction instead of paperclips.

I think it's distantly possible to read the bit about how we want to "tile over the whole universe with non-clippy things" as referring to replication maximising, although you'd have to be literally retarded to think that's actually what he meant.
