Life hack: Rationalist community is a-okay with you stealing money from housemates, will continue to approvingly quote you if you continue to be sufficiently edgy

Sure, just get into a position where you handle the rent on a group house, but lie to everyone about what it is and pocket the difference. Even when it comes out, few will know and fewer will care. It's all upside

It is still larceny, right? So it is not OK.

This is slightly related to this thread but when I first started SSRI I felt so good that I decided on the moment, after my roommate tried to play a prank on me, to steal his phone.
I thought about it for several days if I'm doing something wrong and if I should give it back but in the end I just sold it.
I blame myself when people steal from me, for example a few days ago I left my expensive headphones unchecked a little at a welding course I'm currently taking. When I came back after a few moments they were gone.
It dawned on me then. I smiled and looked around the room a little before I moved on.

I do. And I'm one of the most cynical rationalists.
One interesting fact about me is that I de facto encourage sociopathy but am not in fact ruthless enough to be a sociopath.

Don't take this the wrong way, but "I decided a few days ago to completely change the foundation of my moral system" leads me to believe you're either a nutcase or 15 years old IRL

People sure do a lot of stupid shit under the auspices of being rational, but I think it might be time to ask ourselves some hard questions if our response to "stealing money from your housemates" is "we're gonna stop approvingly quoting you".

This person was more or less thrown out of the community as a result of this and other misconduct, it's far from accepted.
