He's well-read, yes, but he also manages to integrate that knowledge in a way that's useful for howto lead a good life. He shatters illusions without breaking down Chesterton's fence, and that's more than could be said for most rationalists (who sometimes do the former, but often fail when it comes to the latter).
Anyway, this isn't a point I really want to argue, I think it's *apparent*, and you can choose to ignore it, or perhaps you don't see it. Many do see it though, and some of those people will be less intellectually hip than what some anonymous rats might be comfortable with, and hence, will distance themselves from JBP for that reason alone, memeing themselves out of actually useful insights.
