The militants are clashing with each other in the center of Tell Abyad, near the border crossing north of the town as well as in the nearby village of al-Yabisah.

Al-Shamiya Front militants reportedly managed to capture the Agricultural bank, a headquarters of the al-Majid Corps. Both groups are now using heavy weapons, including large-caliber machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

Several Opposition sources reported that the explosions had been caused by air-to-air missiles launched by warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces. Syrian observers confirmed that a number of Russian warplanes were in the air at the time.

State shutting off parking at beaches for July 4 weekend

In a sweeping move intended to help stop the spread of coronavirus over the Fourth of July weekend, California State Parks will shut down parking at all state beaches in the Bay Area.

Parking lots will be closed and no parking on nearby roadways will be permitted at state beaches in Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties. The order will take effect Friday and extend through Sunday, according to Jorge Moreno at State Parks.

A similar order has gone out for state beaches in Sonoma, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. In Southern California, State Parks said it would shut down 10 state beaches in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, with no walk-in or bike-in access permitted.

The move comes in anticipation of large crowds over the coming weekend that could jam beaches, parking and coastal roads, such as occurred in late March, after Gov. Newsom’s first-stay-at-home order allowed trips to state beaches.

“California State Parks is implementing safety measures to reduce the density of visitors over the Fourth of July Weekend in the State Park system,” State Parks said in statement.

At the same time, current camping reservations at all state park units over the coming weekend will be honored, State Parks said.

“While other state park units will remain open, State Parks’ staff will monitor visitation and physical distance over the weekend,” State Parks said. “Measures will be taken to modify operations where needed to limit overcrowding.”

“We advise everyone to check our website (www.parks.ca.gov) to stay up to date on any changes,” Moreno said.

French court acquits young people of ‘homophobia’ charges after their Catholic university denounced them

The acquittal is a slap in the face to the Catholic university, which had announced disciplinary action against the students.

A French Court of Appeal has found 12 college students who joined a spontaneous action against an “LGBT rights” stand in La Roche-sur-Yon, the administrative capital of the Vendée in the west of France, “not guilty” of homophobic insults and obstruction to a legal public demonstration.

The event had taken place last year on May 18, leading to mainstream media outrage against the young adults. They were immediately sanctioned by the Catholic University which most of them attended: ICES, “Institut catholique d’études supérieures de la Vendée.”

Their acquittal by the Court of Appeal of Poitiers is a slap in the face of the ICES, whose president, Eric de Labarre, had presented their student rumpus as a “grave incident,” and announced that disciplinary action would be taken. This was despite the fact that the “attack” took place after the end of the academic year – the students had just received their exam results – and outside the college campus that was closed at the time. In fact, not all the youngsters who joined were students at the ICES.

On May 20, 2019, de Labarre said: “The ICES condemns all forms of violence used to promote any convictions whatsoever. … Their attitude is detrimental to the reputation of the ICES, and as such they will not only be accountable before the courts, since a complaint has been lodged, but also before the ICES.” University authorities went so far as to disclose the identity of students who had participated in the incident to the police.

LGBT activists were calling for sanctions and expulsions for the students and the ICES adopted their vocabulary, speaking of their “anti-homophobia stand.”

At no time did the Catholic university’s hierarchy recall that if respect for all persons is a necessity, the upholding of Catholic teaching is also. While recognizing that their methods may have been ill-advised, several of the young anti-LGBT demonstrators insisted that they had been angered to see public promotion of moral disorder.

The public prosecutor of the Vendée, in a statement to the media, said at the time that there was “no link” between the incidents and the fact that some of the young men happen to be studying at the ICES.

As the US election looms, the gun-toting III% Security Force stands ready for an anti-Democrat uprising. The group has been accused of neo-Nazism, but one of its leaders tells RT they merely protect the will of the people.

“There is a coup taking place right now, there’s a collective effort to overthrow our way of life as we know it – people are starting to realize it’s not a conspiracy theory.

“If we don’t come together as one, we’ll be living in a post-American world by 2021.”

That’s the view of Chris Hill, commanding officer of the III% Security Force’s Georgia branch. The Three Percenters are a constitutional militia with chapters across the US, their name originating from claims that only three percent of colonists took up arms against Britain in the American revolution.

According to them, over the last few months membership has rocketed by 150 percent, with 50 to 100 applicants per day – spurred on by developments like Minneapolis City’s pledge to dismantle their police department and Joe Biden’s promise to stand up for Muslim communities if he enters the White House.

Hill, also known as General BloodAgent, said: “It’s like our Founding Fathers stated, we believe we should come together, to lend our arms and council whenever a crisis arises.

“We advocate and defend our goals and beliefs with regards to our way of life, our constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.”

The group, whose members are rarely seen in the public eye without military fatigues and firearms, sees its role as protecting the people, allowing them to rise up and take control. They spend a fifth of their time on political activism and the rest doing primitive survivalism, military infantry training, hunting, rescue and first aid.

Coronavirus, Black Lives Matter transform California’s political campaigns

With a resurgent coronavirus raging across California and anti-racism rallies and protests a near-daily occurrence, there’s a brand-new focus as candidates gear up for the fall campaign.

Rep. Harley Rouda, an Orange County Democrat, sent out a standard fundraising email Tuesday, looking for re-election cash. But the message was anything but traditional.

“These last few months have tested our leaders — and we’ve seen far too many fail,” the email read. “From organizing a PPE (personal protective equipment) drive in Orange County, to marching for Black lives, to simply wearing a mask, Harley has stood out for his leadership in this crisis.”

Nothing about the economy. Nothing about foreign affairs. Nothing about what he has done for his district in his 18 months in Washington, D.C., or any of the other campaign standbys.

Instead, the email showed a picture of Rouda, wearing a mask, standing with a family of masked, sign-carrying supporters at a Black Lives Matter protest last month in Newport Beach.

These are issues that residents of Orange County care about right now, said Matilda Bress, a spokeswoman for Rouda’s campaign.

“This is a traditionally Republican part of California,” she said. But when George Floyd, a Black man, died at the hands of Minneapolis police in May, “there were mass protests in the district, standing up for the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s something to be proud of.”

Across the state, Democratic candidates are challenging Republicans on the pandemic and their response to racism, buoyed by President Trump’s unwillingness to support tough rules to contain the coronavirus, his attacks on Black Lives Matter and his refusal to deal with the country’s legacy of inequality.

It’s not only Republicans who are being attacked. San Francisco’s Shahid Buttar, who is challenging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a Democrats-only contest in November, charged that Pelosi and other House Democrats “have attempted to co-opt the (Black Lives Matter) movement, resorting to pandering rather than showing solidarity.”

The new focus is a good one for Democrats, said Adam Probolsky, a pollster based in Orange County.

“Social unrest and the coronavirus are two issues that people talk about, with the coronavirus leading into worries about health care,” he said. Trump and his leadership also top voters’ concerns.

“Trump constantly puts people in uncomfortable and difficult positions,” Probolsky said, and that goes double for Republican politicians looking to win in November.

WHO halts hydroxychloroquine Covid-19 trials for second time, citing its ineffectiveness

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stopped the clinical trials of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as well as the anti-HIV medication lopinavir/ritonavir in coronavirus patients, following preliminary results.

The United Nations health agency has said that the use of hydroxychloroquine – a drug once actively endorsed by the US President Donald Trump as a treatment against Covid-19 – should be discontinued, because it has little to no effect on halting the disease’s progression.

The decision was taken after the preliminary results of clinical trials conducted as part of the Solidarity Initiative – a WHO-backed international program aimed at tackling the Covid-19 pandemic – were received. The same study also showed that lopinavir/ritonavir – the two drugs normally used in anti-HIV therapy, and also touted as a potential cure against Covid-19 – are similarly ineffective.

“Interim trial results show that hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir produce little or no reduction in the mortality of hospitalized COVID-19 patients when compared to standard of care. Solidarity trial investigators will interrupt the trials with immediate effect,” the organization said in a statement.
