The day prior, Chauvin and his attorney filed a petition with the court, alleging “fraudulent” and “unlawful” conduct by state and county officials.
Elon Musk has called for Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted for the 2020 death of George Floyd, to be freed. This comes as Chauvin has filed a petition seeking the dismissal of his state charges.
“Free Chauvin,” Musk wrote on Wednesday afternoon. He added in a separate post, “Derek Chauvin was unjustly convicted of murder, therefore he should be freed. The facts show that he was not the cause of death, nor did he at any time intend for a death to occur. Whatever else he may be, he is not a murderer. That is the truth.”

A complicated mission to save a NASA satellite from burning up in the atmosphere has failed, the US space agency said Wednesday, as the rescue spacecraft could not be controlled.
The Swift space telescope, which studies the most powerful explosions in the universe, will now likely plunge back to earth and disintegrate along the way later this year.
The unprecedented $30 million dollar mission attempted to send a robot to grab the telescope and move it farther into orbit.
“This is not the outcome we were working toward, but it does not change why this mission was worth attempting,” NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said.
Planners had hoped the mission would pave the way for giving other satellites a second life.
“The team moved with extraordinary speed to give Swift a chance to carry out more science while advancing capabilities America will need for satellite servicing in the future,” Isaacman added.
Developed by American startup Katalyst, the unmanned spacecraft was launched on July 3 by a small rocket named Pegasus, which was itself launched from an airplane.
However, on July 28 the company said the spacecraft had been in an out-of-control spin for 72 hours with multiple problems including a loss of communications.
In announcing the mission failure on Wednesday, Katalyst cited “ongoing attitude control issues” as the reason it and NASA were calling it off.
NASA said that the spacecraft would still attempt to reach the Swift telescope with the hope of giving scientists and engineers lessons for similar future missions.
The agency launched Swift in 2004 to study gamma-ray bursts.

I once had a quarter sized ball of larva put on my clothes just putting out my garbage, which he plays baffled, but my wife said it was laced with cyanide as it made her fingers numb for days. He covers his tracks very well, and there is no doubt that me and my wife both saw the cyanide leaf attack when I cut the lawn coming from his AC area. The worst attack was when I was washing white powder off my lawn and sat there for 10 minutes hosing it down, hearing many pops. I didn't realize how bad I was until a few hours later, when I got my first sting. I was right about him having multiple license plates, as I saw about 10 or 15 hanging in his garage. I am pretty sure to hold a plate, you still have to have it registered and insured, plus he has 4 vehicles with plates. So that is close to 20 plates, who needs that many? Spanish gangs do that in SA.

South Korea Tests Arctic Shipping Route to Europe

SEOUL, Aug 20 (Reuters) – South Korea will flag off on Saturday a container ship bound for Europe via the Arctic, testing whether a route opened by melting sea ice can be commercially viable, but risking friction with Western allies, as the voyage requires Russian cooperation.
If successful, the trip would be South Korea’s first such commercial voyage to Europe via the Arctic, placing it with China and Russia among the few countries whose shipping firms have tested or run cargo services along the route.
Sailing north from the port of Busan, the PanStar Acro will make stops at Felixstowe in Britain, Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Poland’s Gdansk before returning in a journey expected to take 40 to 45 days, its operator PanStar said.
“Around September, when this voyage will mainly take place, Arctic sea ice is at its lowest level of the year, making safer navigation possible,” an official of the group said on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorized to speak to media.
President Lee Jae Myung has made Arctic shipping a priority, with officials saying it could help transform the southeastern port of Busan into a global maritime hub and position the Arctic as a regular trade route by 2030.
WESTERN DIPLOMATS UNHAPPY WITH PLAN
Western diplomats, however, are unhappy with the plan, as it has required Seoul to consult Russia and seek permits for the ship’s voyage.
“We want to isolate Russia, we don’t want engagement with Russia,” said one European diplomat, citing Russia’s war in Ukraine, and adding that the concerns had been voiced to South Korean officials.
Arctic shipping experts also said South Korea could be at risk of breaching sanctions if the ship sought Russia’s help to tackle problems encountered on the route, such as getting stuck in ice.
South Korea’s Oceans Ministry and Russia’s Foreign Ministry did not respond to requests for comment.
FASTER MELTING OF SEA ICE MAKES ROUTE ATTRACTIVE
The faster melting of Arctic sea ice attributed to global warming has made it more feasible this summer to try out the Northern Sea Route (NSR), as it is known.
As traffic on the route grows, Norwegian tracking foundation, the Centre for High North Logistics, said 88 vessels made 103 transits through the NSR last year, up from 97 in 2024 and 43 in 2022, chiefly from nations such as Russia and China.
South Korea’s Oceans Ministry said the Arctic route could shorten voyages by up to 35% over the traditional Suez Canal route, and require less fuel.
But commercial feasibility could be harder to assess.
Unit transport costs for the Arctic route are swelled by factors such as vessel size limits and insurance costs, former naval officer Hyewon Choi, said in a study published last year in the journal, Ocean Policy Research.
“We cannot use the NSR year round,” he told Reuters, adding that the route is only navigable by container vessels during the three summer months when the ice melts.
PanStar, picked in a government-backed tender for the pilot voyage, bought a 2,700-TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) container ship from HMM that it is modifying for polar navigation, with a crew of 20 Koreans and Indonesians.
The company told Reuters it is seeking at least 1,300 TEU of cargo such as automobile parts, food and cosmetics, along with shipments from China and Japan, with clients from the latter expressing interest.
FIRST-MOVER ADVANTAGE
China is already trying to secure first-mover advantage on the route, making a South Korean voyage more urgent, the PanStar official said.
“Korea must begin accumulating operating experience and data that it has not had until now, if the national goal of commercial scheduled service by 2030 is to be achievable.”
Chinese container company Sea Legend Shipping plans to launch the first regular container service to Europe via the NSR, the route’s Russian operator says.

Thank you Mr. Co-facilitator, Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are the Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, a largest NGO Think and Do tank designated to ocean governance and ocean policy in Japan supported by the Nippon Foundation.
Together with Global Ocean Forum, IOC/UNESCO, MOF Gov. of Grenada, MOF Gov. of Seychelles and Oceano Azul Foundation, we had a side-event “Ocean and Climate and Blue Economy” on 15 Feb. 13:15-14:30 with great success.
We would like to intervene to highlight the importance of capacity building to overarch ocean issues and climate change in the “call for action”.
We would like to rise three points to be included in the “call for action” as follows;
Firstly, “need of long-term commitment on Networking”.
The World Maritime University (WMU) is established in Malmo, Sweden in 1983 by the IMO to serve high-level knowledge there about Maritime Education, Marine Environment, Ocean Governance, etc to developing countries.
Our Foundation together with the Nippon Foundation have provided a scholarship fund since 1987. To date, we have more than 600 fellows from 70 countries. The point is a strong ownership of the Sasakawa fellows by themselves. After graduating from WMU, the fellows take active leadership in maritime affairs in their home nation with backup the Sasakawa fellows’ alumni network. This global network of professionals can be a firm base of international cooperation.
Secondly, “need of sound regional platform based on science”.
In Northern Western side of the Pacific, effect of OA is coming from north since dissolution of CO2 is active in low temperature. Scientists are predicting, northern limit of reef corals’ habitation will shift down to Southern part of Japan in 2080s. Furthermore, ocean temperature rise due to global warming bring up Southern limit of reef corals’ habitation toward the area in 2060s. It will affect on both tourism and fisheries in Japan seriously.
These sensational interpretations should be delivered to public very carefully. Without good data mining to show the truth and making good explanation, we can trigger an unnecessary displacement or confusion to local residence and industries. Since the issues are so complicated, not only the networking of existing observation network to compile our knowledge, but also good action platform should be prepared.
“The Marine Crisis Watch and Action” is designed and in preparation now for rising Public and Political Awareness.
Thirdly, “need of holistic approach with collaboration”.
The erosion of the coasts caused by SLR, increasing storm surges and land use change due to Climate Change. Protect island coastal lines from erosion is a difficult task. It is not enough to construct high barrier to the rising tide. It is needed to be matched a Good management strategies, sustainable eco-engineering and legal toolboxes for implementation. We need a good platform of collaboration to integrate these tools to implement.
We have launched a voluntary international collaboration network “The Islands and Oceans Net” at SIDS2014 held in Samoa to coordinating and initiating practical action programs together with SIDS countries.
By that, we would like to reiterate the importance of broad and active participation at all levels for customizing the global “call for action” to the regional, national and local implementation of Capacity Building.

My last attack is definitely larva and cyanide related, and without doubt came a projection over the bushes by his home AC unit to my front tree. This happens because the larva has embedded into a blood vessel. We need very sophisticated forensic engineers to investigate these criminals, that are not stupid, funded by Soros, Obama, and Alaweed, as they all relate to Huma which showed in my town.

The criminal alien issue has become so “politically toxic” and “costly” that Democrat Governors have given the green light to Sheriffs and Police Chiefs in major blue cities to drop their illegals off with undercover ICE for removal.
It’s happening. You just don’t see it.
We can track if these numbers hold, but as for now this is a historic white pill and exactly what MAGA voted for.

Trump’s Plan for Foreign-Built Navy Ships Runs Into Resistance

President Donald Trump’s push to open U.S. Navy shipbuilding to foreign yards is running into resistance from American shipbuilders and lawmakers who argue the policy risks sending jobs and critical industrial capacity overseas just as Washington is spending billions to rebuild the domestic maritime industry.
The pushback follows Trump’s August 13 national security memorandum creating a pathway for foreign shipbuilders to construct the first two vessels of certain U.S. Navy programs at their home yards before shifting follow-on production to the United States.
The administration calls the approach the “Finland Model,” borrowing from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Arctic Security Cutter program. To qualify, foreign shipbuilders must build or acquire a controlling stake in a U.S. shipyard, hire and train American workers, transfer proprietary shipbuilding technology and establish a U.S. supply chain.
The model could be applied to three vessel types: a new surface combatant capable of anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare and convoy escort missions; Consolidated Cargo Replenishment at Sea tankers; and roll-on/roll-off vessels.
The White House argues the arrangement can deliver ships more quickly while bringing foreign capital, technology and shipbuilding expertise into the United States. The administration has already used a similar strategy for icebreakers, describing overseas construction as a temporary bridge while domestic capacity is expanded.
But U.S. shipbuilders are warning that every vessel constructed abroad is work that could instead support American yards.
“While foreign investment into the U.S.-based shipyards and facilities is lauded to reach the Administration’s goals of revitalizing the shipyard industrial base, directing the DoW to build overseas only undercuts the federal Maritime Action Plan and generational investment into commercial and government shipbuilding,” Shipbuilders Council of America President Matthew Paxton said in a statement.
“Every hull built abroad is demand, jobs, and industrial capability diverted from American shipyards this Administration pledged to rebuild,” Paxton added. “We urge the Department to reverse course and redirect this funding to qualified U.S. shipyards.”
The opposition exposes a growing tension within Trump’s broader Maritime Dominance agenda.
The administration’s Maritime Action Plan itself acknowledges a role for foreign-built vessels as a stopgap while U.S. shipbuilding capacity is rebuilt, while maintaining that U.S.-built ships should ultimately take over that work.
Trump’s Navy directive takes that concept further by allowing qualifying foreign builders to construct Navy vessels overseas, provided the companies make substantial investments in American shipbuilding.
South Korea’s Hanwha and Italy’s Fincantieri have emerged as potential beneficiaries. Hanwha acquired Philly Shipyard in 2024 and has pledged $5 billion toward expanding the facility, while Fincantieri has invested more than $800 million in its U.S. shipyards over the past decade. Shares of both companies rose following Trump’s announcement.
Congress Pushes Back
Resistance is also building on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers have already moved to restrict the Navy’s ability to send ship construction overseas.
Rep. Jared Golden, a Maine Democrat whose district includes General Dynamics Bath Iron Works,blasted Trump’s directive as inconsistent with the administration’s “America First” message.
“I don’t know how we’re supposed to take any soaring ‘America-first’ language from this administration seriously when it appears to be bound and determined to send American shipbuilding jobs overseas and, now, to sell American shipyards to foreign corporations,” Golden said.
Golden pointed to language he successfully added to the House-passed fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act that would prohibit funds authorized under the legislation from being used to enter into contracts for battle force ships constructed in foreign yards.
The provision was aimed at an earlier Pentagon shipbuilding proposal that contemplated allowing U.S. ships or portions of ships to be constructed overseas. The House passed its version of the NDAA in July.
Golden said the Senate is considering similar restrictions, potentially putting Congress on a collision course with the White House over the foreign construction strategy.
“Congress must take seriously its job to protect national security and American jobs,” Golden said.
If such restrictions survive the legislative process and become law, they could complicate the surface-combatant portion of Trump’s Finland Model. The precise impact on replenishment tankers and roll-on/roll-off vessels would depend on the final language and how those vessels are classified and funded.
The presidential memorandum itself recognizes Congress’ role. Trump delegated authority to the Secretary of War to make national security determinations allowing waivers from the general prohibition on Armed Forces vessels being constructed in foreign shipyards, but Congress must receive notice at least 30 days before a qualifying contract can be executed.
A Broader Maritime Debate
The dispute comes as the administration is already facing criticism over another policy involving foreign vessels: its record-long emergency Jones Act waiver.
The waiver has allowed foreign-flag vessels to transport energy products and other eligible cargoes between U.S. ports amid disruptions caused by the Iran conflict. U.S. maritime groups have argued that allowing foreign vessels into domestic trades can suppress demand for American ships and undermine investment in the very industrial base Trump’s Maritime Dominance agenda is intended to rebuild.
The administration recently tightened the waiver, moving toward voyage-by-voyage approvals and requiring a determination of whether Jones Act-qualified tonnage is available before a foreign vessel is authorized.
The disputes reflect the same underlying challenge confronting U.S. domestic shipbuilding industrial base.
Trump’s strategy is increasingly to use foreign capacity as a bridge while requiring foreign companies to invest in U.S. yards and transfer expertise. The White House says its goal is to restore capacity and competition after years of delays, cost increases and growing backlogs across Navy shipbuilding programs.
Opponents argue that sending even the first hulls overseas risks weakening the demand signal needed to rebuild that capacity at home.
That disagreement now appears headed for a larger fight between the White House, Congress and the U.S. shipbuilding industry over where the next generation of American naval vessels should actually be built.

Forbes 30 under 30 chief executive Roger Duarte has been named among seven people who died in a helicopter crash in Kenya on Wednesday morning.
Duarte, 42, was one of five Americans on board the chartered aircraft, which plummeted to the ground at 9.13am before it reached its remote safari destination.
Everyone on board - six tourists and a Kenyan pilot - perished in the tragedy.
Florida-based TV executive José Suárez, 55, was also in the helicopter, along with Ecuador's intelligence chief Michele Sensi-Contugi, 44, and his wife, US-Ecuadorian fashion designer Stephany Hollihan Vásconez, 42, who shared two children.
Duarte was a popular and highly successful seafood entrepreneur from Miami, where he lived in a $2.8million mansion with his wife and two young sons.
His heartbroken father, Roger Duarte Sr, confirmed his death in a phone call with the Daily Mail hours after the crash.
'I'm very devastated right now,' the 82-year-old said. 'I don't have the words to express my feelings.'
'We don't know much about what happened,' he added. 'They are investigating the crash.'
The high-flying executives lost their lives on Wednesday morning after their tour group departed from Loisaba Conservancy, heading for the Ewaso Nyiro area of Samburu County in northern Kenya.

Portugal Wildfires Rage Across 3 Regions | 2,000 Firefighters & 20 Aircraft Fight Flames | VERTEX
Portugal is battling a major wildfire crisis as flames rage across three regions, forcing firefighters to confront multiple active fronts amid extreme heat and dry conditions. More than 2,000 firefighters and emergency personnel, supported by around 20 aircraft, have been deployed to contain the fires across northern Portugal.
The most serious blaze in Torre de Moncorvo has already burned more than 2,000 hectares, while fires in Arouca and Santo Tirso have also spread across large areas. In Arouca, firefighters faced four active fronts, while the Santo Tirso blaze had consumed more than 900 hectares.
With temperatures expected to exceed 40°C(104°F) in several parts of Portugal and humidity remaining low, authorities have warned of a very high to maximum risk of rural fires.
The escalating fires add to a wider European wildfire crisis, with Spain, Greece, France and other countries also battling devastating summer blazes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving back to Britain in the biggest shift to their family life since stepping away from royal duties in 2020, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are relocating with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, to the U.K. for an extended period beginning this month, PEOPLE understands, with the children set to begin school there in September.
The couple will maintain their home in Montecito, California, and their vacation property in Portugal while establishing a private, non-royal home base in Britain. The location of the family’s new home and the children’s school are being closely guarded.
The move gives Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, their first home base in Britain since they relinquished the lease on Frogmore Cottage, the Windsor residence gifted to them by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2023. King Charles, 77, asked them to vacate the property following the publication of Harry’s raw 2023 memoir, Spare.
King Charles was made aware of the couple’s plans on Sunday, August 16, PEOPLE understands, and welcomes the opportunity to see more of the Sussex family in a private and personal capacity.
The move comes just weeks after Harry and Meghan returned to the U.K. with Archie and Lilibet for a successful summer visit that included the children’s first reunion with their grandfather in more than four years.
Charles is said to have been clear there will be no change to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s status as private individuals and non-working members of the royal family, in keeping with the wishes they expressed and the agreement reached when they stepped back from royal duties.
Those close to the Sussexes believe they have successfully executed the “half in, half out” model Harry and Meghan proposed to the royal family in 2019. With a base in Britain, Harry will be able to spend more time with charities including Scotty’s Little Soldiers and WellChild, as well as the Invictus community, while Meghan continues leading her lifestyle company, As Ever, and pursuing future projects.
Allies say the couple have built the independent life they envisioned — championing the causes most important to them while supporting themselves financially, paying their own bills and mortgage, and relying on no taxpayer funding.
The move is also the clearest sign yet that Harry believes his family’s long-running security concerns have reached a point where he feels comfortable basing Meghan and their children in Britain once again. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to comment on the matter of security.

While the family’s longer-term residential plans remain unclear, PEOPLE understands Meghan will continue leading As Ever from the couple’s international bases, while Harry will be able to spend significantly more time supporting U.K.-based charities and patronages.
Even before plans for the family’s return emerged, Harry was expected in Britain in September for engagements tied to WellChild — the children’s charity he has supported for more than two decades — as well as events connected to the Invictus Games. Among the marquee events is the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards and gala, though those close to the Sussexes are not confirming whether Harry and Meghan plan to attend.

Security has long been an obstacle for the couple. After he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties, the pair lost their taxpayer-funded police protection, prompting Harry to wage a years-long legal battle over the decision.
He has continued pressing the issue, arguing that the government’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) should conduct a fresh risk assessment — something he says has not happened in more than six years. Against that backdrop, the family’s decision to establish a U.K. base marks a significant turning point.
The Sussexes left Britain in 2020 amid an increasingly and publicly strained relationship with the royal family — particularly Harry’s brother, Prince William, 44. Tensions deepened following the couple’s stunning interview with Oprah Winfrey, their Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries and, finally, Harry’s memoir, Spare.
While the couple appeared to have an idyllic life in Montecito, they have made no secret of their disillusionment with the current White House. With the midterm elections fast approaching, concerns about the direction of the U.S. loom large for many.
There has been public tension between the Sussexes and Trump in the past. When President Donald Trump said in January 2026 that NATO allies “stayed a little back” from the frontlines during the war in Afghanistan, Harry — a combat vet from the Afghanistan War — issued a blunt statement: “I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there.” (For his part, Trump said of Meghan in May, “Boy, what she’s done to that guy [Harry],” in remarks to royal biographer Robert Hardman.)
Those close to Harry believe his recent visit to Britain reflects his conviction that the more the public interacts with Meghan, the more they appreciate her. During his visit to Birmingham, where he carried out charity engagements and promoted the Invictus Games, Harry was heartened by the public interest in his wife.
Looking back, Harry may have hinted at the family’s plans more than a year ago. At the WellChild Awards in September 2025, singer Joss Stone — who had recently moved her family back to Britain after spending years living in Nashville, Tennessee — recalled that Harry was especially interested in her decision.
“He asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home. He’s just very warm and down to earth, as always. Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice,” Stone told Hello!.
Stone said Harry was particularly curious about what the move meant for her children.
“He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children,” she recalled. “It was nice to share that with him because it’s exactly why we felt drawn to come back — for the kids to grow up surrounded by family, friends and a strong sense of belonging and, most importantly, in a safe environment.”
While Harry has been gradually repairing his relationship with King Charles, the same cannot be said of his bond with William. Despite recent speculation that tensions between the brothers may have eased, PEOPLE understands the relationship remains as it has for years — distant, with “no contact.”
“I thought it would have perhaps eased a little bit by now, to be honest. But there has been no movement, especially on William’s side,” a close source told PEOPLE in July.
Still, Harry told the BBC in 2025 that he hoped to heal the rift: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
