Putin orders Easter ceasefire, calls on Ukraine to follow

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared an “Easter ceasefire” from 4:00 p.m. on April 11 through the end of the day on April 12, the Kremlin announced on April 9.

Putin ordered Russian forces to halt combat operations across all fronts, though troops were told to remain ready to counter any provocations or aggressive actions by the opposing side.

“We proceed from the assumption that the Ukrainian side will follow the example of the Russian Federation,” the Kremlin stated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier proposed a ceasefire for Easter. Earlier on April 9, the Kremlin had said that Putin had not yet made a final decision on a possible Easter ceasefire.

Kyiv had not commented on the Russian announcement as of the time of publication.

In 2025, Putin unilaterally declared a halt to hostilities over Easter for a day and a half.

Both sides accused each other of numerous violations, though the intensity of fighting dropped significantly during that period.

In a lesser reported part of the background, Chairman Xi Jinping summoned the Pakistani negotiators to Beijing prior to the terms of agreement with Trump. The summoning happened right after Trump said he was going to target the full force of the U.S. military against Iranian infrastructure.

Why does that matter to China? Belt and Road. Beijing has built a railway from China into Iran for the transport of goods and raw materials (including energy products) out of Iran (sanctions avoidance) in exchange for shipments of weapons. If President Trump targeted the railway infrastructure, in combination with the oil shipments being hampered, ¹China would be in a very bad place. Hence the summoning to get a ceasefire.

¹China in a bad place due to the middle east in crisis, means China becomes more dependent on Russia for oil, gas and ultimately fuel. Internally, Russia isn’t a big fan of their Chinese dependencies.

If FUBAR in Iran remained the statis, the two countries not in any crisis would be the USA and Russia, both with oil/gas and extra refining capacity. The countries/regions in biggest crisis would be China, Europe and Southeast Asia.

Planet Labs Restricts Iran War Images Following US Government Request

Planet Labs, a satellite imaging company, announced it is no longer openly posting imagery from Iran and nearby war zones following a request by the US government. The move to control and censor the narrative comes as reports mount of US and Israeli strikes on civilian infrastructure. That includes bridges, power facilities, educational and cultural sites, churches, and petrochemical plants — targets that may amount to war crimes under the Geneva Convention.

Planet Labs is a private company that has about 200 earth imaging satellites and it sells its data to both companies and governments. It is used to verify military claims and document attacks. That matters because Planet sits at the junction of journalism, intelligence, and state power.

Trump upends China’s lucrative sanctioned oil import scheme after Iran, Venezuela interventions

For years,China relied on exploiting U.S. sanctions to import steeply discounted oil from pariah stateslike Iran and Venezuela to fuel its economy and military buildup. Now,President Donald Trump’s interventions against both Caracas and Tehran have upended this lucrative arrangement.

China is suddenly confronted with a very different strategic calculus ahead of a key meetingwith the American president in Beijing tentatively scheduled for next month.“I think it's really China that all of this is centered on a grand strategic calculus,” Brent Sadler of the Heritage Foundation’s Allison Center for National Security told the Just the News, No Noise TV show, referring to the Iran war and intervention in Venezuela.

“Before [the Venezuela operation at] Christmas last year,China was the beneficiary of a lot of cheap oil in terms of trade that it dictated. Now over 20% of its oil that it imports,it's going to have to pay a fair market price, greatly higher than what it did before,” Sadler said. “[And], oh, by the way, their foe in D.C. is the one that controls it.”

Sadler said that these moves deliver a strong message to China ahead of the likely summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart.

China exploited U.S. sanctions to import cheap oil

Before the military operation against Iran and the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro earlier this year,China had exploitedU.S. oil sanctions against both Iran and Venezuela tofill its strategic petroleum reserve at a discountand fuel its economy, which has been heavily dependent on foreign oil for decades.

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Partyrecently found that by early 2026 China had stockpiled about 1.2 billion barrels–about 109 days’ worth of regular seaborne imports–of sanctioned oil at well-below market rates.

In 2025,China imported a total of 2.6 million barrels per dayof sanctioned crude oil by sea: 1.4 million barrels per day from Russia, 852,000 from Iran, and 419,000 from Venezuela, according to a recent report from the House committee.

Before the war in Iran, imports of sanctioned barrels from these countriesaccounted for roughly 20% of China’s total oil imports. China was able to obtain oil from these countries–all of whichwere under U.S. sanctionsfor various reasons ranging from the Russian invasion of Ukraine to Iran’s illicit nuclear program–at a steeply discounted price. The committee cites estimates thatimporting sanctioned oil saved China roughly $12 billion to $15 billionin 2024 alone.

“Western sanctions on Russian, Iranian, and Venezuelan crude were designed to reduce the revenue available to hostile governments. Instead of fully removing those barrels from the market, however,the measures pushed them toward a narrower set of buyers willing to absorb the legal and financial risksof the trade—foremost among them China,” the Select Committee on the CCP concluded.

“The result is a market in whichsanctioned exporters increasingly rely on a limited number of purchasers, while Chinese refiners benefit from access to deeply discounted crude,” the committee added in the report.

China used the “shadow fleet” to fill a large reserve

The congressional investigation found evidence that China’s exploitation of the sanctions regimeramped up in late 2025 and early 2026, aimed at obtaining cheap oil and generating leverage over the oil exporters.

Triggered by the U.S. enforcement actions against “shadow fleet”tankers in order to build pressure on Venezuela late last year, China exploited the subsequent decline in Russian crude oil prices. Russia relies heavily on the global shadow fleet to evade sanctions imposed by the U.S. following Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

China also directly sponsors at least one fleet, known as the Protean Fleet, whose 56 supertankersamount to nearly 5% of the global shadow fleet.

“By the time Chinese buyers returned to the market,Russia had no leverage left to resist their terms,” the committee said of the Chinese strategy. Afterward, China ramped up imports from Russia at a steep discount, using the proceeds to fill its massive petroleum reserves.

The committeefound the same pattern as Iranian crude oil pricesdeclined after President Trump renewed his signature “maximum pressure” campaign against the regime after he returned to office last year, the report shows.

Sanctioned oil strategy not “viable” after Iran, Venezuela interventions

However, the House committee notes thatChina’s sanctions evasion strategy may no longer be “viable” after the American interventions in Venezuela and Iran, which have interrupted shadow fleet operations and strangled shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz near Iran.

“Given the changing geopolitical dynamic with the ongoing conflict with Iran,the value of China's shadow fleet has greatly diminished and its ability to purchase sanctioned oil at a massive discountappears to be no longer viable,” the Select Committee on the CCP concluded.

China’s dependence on foreign oil importswas exposed by Iran’s attempts to hold the global energy market hostageby effectively blockading the Strait of Hormuz–through which 25% of the world’s seaborne oil trade transited before the conflict, the vast majority of it destined for South and East Asian markets.

Iran, a nominal ally of Beijing, may have expected to secure Chinese backing in its war against the United States. However, after initially backing Iran’s “legitimate rights”and giving rhetorical support, China soon began demanding that Iran reopen the strait to traffic.

When the conflict broke out, China relied heavily on Iran’s crude oil exports.Data show that China bought more than 80% of Iran’s shipped oil in 2025. It imported about 1.38 million barrels per day on average last year, representing 13.4% of its total oil imports by sea.

Theconflict in the Arabian Gulf will also impact China’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) supply. Qatar, a Gulf monarchy from whom China imports about14% of its LNG supply, announced last month that it was temporarily suspending its production. Though China will likely be able to find alternative sources for crude oil imports,it will now be forced to do so at market prices,Just the News previously reported, undermining Beijing’s strategy to source crude at the steep discounts it was paying for sanctioned oil.

Sadler, the Heritage national security expert, told Just the Newsthat theinterventions in both Venezuela and Iran can be viewed as “strong power plays” leading up to the much-anticipated summit between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.

President Trump has already sought to exploit the disruption of the cheap oil supply to China,offering Beijing the opportunity for a deal to purchase Venezuelan oil–now being exported under strict supervision from the United States–at fair market prices.

“China is welcome to come in and would make a great deal on oil,” Trump said last month, before the intervention in Iran.

The summit, now tentatively scheduled for May, was once delayed after Trump authorized strikes on Iran in February aimed at destroying the country’s navy and ballistic missile program. There, the Trump administration hopes tonegotiate a truce in the trade war with Beijing, possibly using China’s oil vulnerabilities as leverage.

A forensic review of the driver’s cell phone found text messages with an individual believed to be one of the four men, discussing expected arrival times and pickup logistics, according to the court filing.

Federalprosecutors’ motion for pretrial detention adds a further wrinkle to the story.

Abdullah, identified as the lead defendant in the criminal complaints,had previously run afoul of U.S. immigration authorities. His application to extendhis U.S. visa was denied in March 2025, and he departed the country in May 2025, the motion states.

The phone sex story is worth remembering as President Trump attempts to end the Iran War. Like many other things Israel has done, it shows that America’s “special ally” is willing to play very dirty to achieve its goals. Dark-money campaign contributions, extortion, physical threats, and even assassination. In their anti-Christian worldview, the ends always justify the means. They have no issue destroying lives.

Israel’s current top priority is making sure Operation Epic Fury does not stop. They know the U.S. fighting their war for them is the best chance at expanding their borders and becoming a global superpower, and a peace deal would foil their plot. Based on the country’s past, its leaders are doubtlessly willing to push as hard as necessary to ensure the bloodshed continues. That could mean Clinton-style blackmail against Trump, or something far more morbid.

We do not know for sure whether that is happening, but the mere possibility is haunting enough to keep the president up at night. He is under a level of pressure that most people cannot fathom, with rabid Israel Firsters viciously harassing him any time he dares to stray even slightly from their favorite country’s agenda. Their shameless pursuit is steadfast enough to make even a man like Donald Trump go mad. They are as persistent as any group in history, no matter how well the White House has treated them in the past. They are never grateful, they always want more, and they refuse to give the president even an inch of breathing room. It is an unrelenting full-court press.

We decided to write about this after Trump published a Truth Social post attacking our company, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones, each of whom supported him for years. Rather than engaging in petty name-calling, we want to give the president some grace. Judge Orders Pentagon To Grant Media More Access

A federal judge in Washington ordered the Pentagon on Thursday to restore full press access for credentialed journalists, ruling that the Department of Defense failed to comply with an earlier court decision.

U.S. District Judge Paul Friedmanfound that the Pentagon obstructed reporters and did not fully implement his March 20 ruling, which held that the DoD’s 2025 press policy violated the First Amendment. The dispute centers on a press access framework introduced last year that required journalists to sign restrictive agreements governing how they could obtain and use information, including unclassified material. More than 50 reporters declined to sign the pledge and lost their Pentagon credentials.

The move is designed to stop internal leaks that the DoD said undermined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and hindered the Pentagon’s operations.

In December, The New York Times filed a lawsuit against the DoD challenging its new press access policy, saying it restricts how journalists cover the Pentagon and which outlets can enter the building. The complaint alleges the rules violate the First and Fifth Amendments by limiting reporters’ ability to question officials and gather information beyond official government statements.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

‘The EU Needs More Countries’: Zelensky Calls on Britain to Rejoin the European Union to Help Fight Russia

Brexit is moot because a post-NATO European Union needs as many members as it can get to fight Russia, and one of those new members should be the United Kingdom, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

If the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation falters then the European Union will have to take on responsibility for organising the defence of the continent, so the countries on its periphery should join to make the bloc as militarily powerful as possible, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Speaking to centre-left UK politics podcast The Rest is Politics Zelensky of course counted Ukraine among this group of nations — the President has been calling for EU membership for years, and has been repeatedly turned down — but his other selections were no less controversial.

President Zelensky told the podcast, per a digest of his remarks released through his own social media:

If the United States truly thinks about withdrawing from NATO, then European security will be based solely on the European Union. But not in its current form. I think that the EU is in a situation where it needs more countries.

The UK, Ukraine, Türkiye, and Norway. These are four strong countries, which are part of Europe. Together, the UK, Ukraine, and Türkiye have armies that are stronger than Russia’s army. Without Ukraine and Türkiye, Europe can’t match Russia. With the four countries on board you can wrest control of the seas, have secure skies and the largest land forces.

The British people already voted — in the largest democratic mandate for anything in UK electoral history — to leave the European Union in 2016. It also has an uncomfortable history with foreign Presidents telling Britons whether they should be inside the European Union or not.

The UK voted to leave for a diverse spread of reasons, but it is well acknowledged that among them were — beyond big-ticket items like open borders — aversion to the concept of a single European Union army eroding British sovereignty. Also in play was concerns about the push then underway to get Turkey onboard as a member state, a large non-European state on the fringes of the continent.

Several European member states have a tough past experience with political union with Constantinople, and introducing Turkey and the United Kingdom to the European Union at the same time may be extremely unlikely.

The Ukrainian President also named Norway, an enthusiastic NATO contributor but a country whose own people voted against joining the EU in two separate referenda. The country is a wealthy, developed economy, already has a healthy ongoing relationship with Brussels, and there appears to be no appetite domestically to change things.

Netanyahu requests delay in his corruption trial testimony, citing security developments

PM asks for a 2-week delay in resumption of trial that was suspended amid Iran war, submits sealed envelope detailing the classified reasons to the court

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked to postpone giving testimony in his long-running corruption trial that was set to resume next week, citing the ongoing security situation in the region, Netanyahu’s lawyer said in a court filing on Friday.

Netanyahu’s trial was set to resume on Sunday, after Israel lifted a state of emergency imposed over its war with Iran following Wednesday’s ceasefire announcement. The defense said it was prepared to continue hearing the testimony of a prosecution witness.

“Due to classified security and diplomatic reasons connected … to the dramatic events that have taken place in the State of Israel and throughout the Middle East in recent times, the Prime Minister will not be able to testify in the proceeding for at least the next two weeks,” the filing to the Jerusalem District Court stated.

It said that a sealed envelope detailing the classified reasons was delivered to the court, which will rule once the prosecution submits its response.

Netanyahu, the first sitting prime minister to be charged with a crime, denies charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust brought in 2019 after years of investigations.

His trial, which began in 2020 and could lead to jail terms, has been repeatedly delayed due to his official commitments, with no end date in sight, with the prime minister repeatedly asking for delays and postponements.

The charges against Netanyahu, along with the Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023, have damaged his standing. Israel is due to hold an election in October that Netanyahu’s coalition, the most right-wing in Israel’s history, is likely to lose, according to polls. However, the polls also show the opposition being unable to put together a majority unless they join forces with Arab parties.

The prime minister also currently has a pardon request being examined by President Isaac Herzog.

Herzog is under intense pressure from coalition members and from US President Donald Trump to pardon Netanyahu.

Over the last few months, US President Trump has ratcheted up pressure on Herzog to pardon Netanyahu, calling Herzog “full of crap” and a “weak and pathetic guy” because he has not yet issued a pardon.

The Israeli president said that he will make a decision “without pressure and without noise from any direction,” an apparent reference to Trump’s attacks, and criticized Netanyahu for not pushing back against the US leader’s comments.
