Putin announces Easter ceasefire

The pause in the fighting will last from 16:00 (Moscow time) on Saturday through Sunday, according to the Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the nation’s military to halt all operations against Ukrainian forces over Orthodox Easter weekend, the Kremlin has announced. The unilateral pause is scheduled to last from 16:00 (Moscow time) on Saturday until the end of Sunday.

According to the Kremlin, Russian troops should still be ready to respond to any Ukrainian offensive operations or provocations, with relevant orders given to Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov.

“We expect the Ukrainian side to follow Russia’s lead,” the statement read.

Moscow has previously declared unilateral pauses during Orthodox religious holidays throughout the Ukraine conflict. In 2023, Russia observed truces both during the Orthodox Christmas holiday in January and on Easter weekend in April at the initiative of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In 2024, a pause was not announced, with Putin arguing that Kiev could use it to rearm and regroup its forces. In 2025, an Easter truce was declared again, but was only partially successful. Although a certain lull in the hostilities was observed, Kiev violated the truce more than 3,900 times, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky rejected Hungary’s calls for a Christmas truce last year.

Last year, Russia also suspended its offensive operations in early May to mark the 80th anniversary of Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Moscow expressed hope at the time that the move would contribute to the “start of direct negotiations with Kiev without preconditions.” Zelensky dismissed it as “manipulation.”

Moscow and Kiev held several rounds of direct talks in Istanbul last year, as well as trilateral talks that also involved the US. The negotiations led to several major POW exchanges but ended without a decisive breakthrough. The trilateral discussions have been paused over the past months because of the US and Israeli war on Iran.

A very much alive Michael J Fox, famous for his movie role in Back to the Future and on TV as the Reagan-loving briefcase-toting Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties,mocked CNN for sharing a tribute video implying the actor had passed away.

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991,but he has maintained his acting career, with roles as recently as AppleTV+’s Shrinking in 2026.

The network released a video package titled “Remembering the life of actor Michael J. Fox,” which prompted him to reassure worried fans.

Fox wrote on hisThreads account, “How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death?”

A spokesperson for the network told Entertainment Weekly, “The package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family.”

The video in question showed viewers clips of Fox’s work over the years, as well as interview excerpts.

“He came into our living rooms on the small screen each week as Alex P. Keaton[on Family Ties] and eventually onto the big screen as Marty McFly in [Back to the Future],” the narrator said. “But Michael J. Fox had a compelling third act as Parkinson’s sufferer and stem cell research advocate.”

In 2025, Fox received the Presidential Medal of Freedomprimarily for his decades of advocacy and work through The Michael J. Fox Foundation to advance Parkinson’s disease research.

He is married to actress Tracy Pollan, who he met on the set of Family Ties.

They were married in 1988 and have been since having four children: one son and three daughters.

Summary

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in conjunction with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), is issuing this Health Advisory to notify public health professionals, clinicians, laboratorians, and people at risk for overdose about increasing reports from U.S. jurisdictions detecting medetomidine in the illegal drug supply and a severe withdrawal syndrome due to medetomidine exposure. Medetomidine (also known as 'rhino tranq,' 'mede,' or 'dex') is not approved for human use but is approved for sedation and analgesia in dogs. Its dextro-isomer, dexmedetomidine, is approved for procedural sedation in humans. Medetomidine has been increasingly detected in law enforcement drug seizures, drug product and paraphernalia samples, and in wastewater samples, with the highest concentrations in the Northeast region. Testing of illegal drug samples and clinical specimens has identified racemic mixtures of levomedetomidine and dexmedetomidine isomers without the preservatives commonly found in medical or veterinary formulations, making diversion of pharmaceutical products unlikely. Since pharmaceutical-grade products contain only dexmedetomidine, these findings suggest medetomidine is being synthesized in clandestine laboratories.

Medetomidine can cause profound sedation, bradycardia, and hypotension. Stopping medetomidine following regular use may lead to severe withdrawal, similar to clonidine withdrawal, with symptoms including hypertension, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, and fluctuating alertness, that can require emergency or intensive care. Because fentanyl is involved in most overdoses involving medetomidine, opioid overdose reversal medications (OORM; e.g., naloxone) should be administered to restore normal breathing in suspected overdoses.

Public health professionals can use syndromic surveillance to detect medetomidine-related intoxication or withdrawal signs and symptoms. Public health and public safety agencies and clinicians should collaborate to monitor the local drug supply and share timely information to align clinical and public health action. Clinicians should consider medetomidine in suspected opioid overdoses with prolonged sedation unresponsive to OORM administration, consult a toxicologist or poison control at 1-800-222-1222, and report unusual cases to the appropriate health department.

Background

Despite declines in U.S. drug overdose deaths since 2022 that continued in 2025, the illegal drug supply remains unpredictable. Illegally made fentanyl continues to be involved in most overdose deaths and is frequently mixed with other drugs, such as benzodiazepines or xylazine. Which Americans Will Be Automatically Registered for Military Draft, and When?

A government filing shows that men of a certain age could be automatically registered for a military draft before this year ends.

The website of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs shows that a proposed rule submitted on March 30 would fast-track a change to go in effect by December 2026 after initially being approved by Congress in 2025 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. The rule was submitted by the Selective Service System (SSS), the government agency that maintains the draft-eligible database, and encompasses American males aged 18-25.

While the U.S. has long utilized an all-volunteer force and a draft has not been in effect since the tail end of the Vietnam War in the 1970s, the option of conscription has been considered an option since the SSS registration was reinstated in 1980 by then-President Jimmy Carter.

This new rule could have legal and financial penalties, as failure to register is a felony punishable with a fine of up to $250,000 or up to 5 years in prison.

White House Previously Said Draft 'On Table'

The proposed rule change was submitted a little over 30 days after the United States and Israel attacked Iran, as part of a conflict that remains ongoing yet is temporarily on hold due to an agreed upon two-week ceasefire that faced volatility on Wednesday.

In the early days of the war, and following the deaths of six U.S. soldiers in relation to the military operation, the Trump administration was asked about the prospect of incorporating a draft in addition to whether boots on the ground in the region was realistic.

“It has been, and it will continue to be,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox Business’ Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo a month ago. “President Trump wisely does not remove options off of the table.

“I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly, but the president as commander in chief wants to continue to assess the success of this military operation."

Fact checks conducted by Reuters, Forbes and PolitiFact found no correlation between now-President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign and statements enforcing a widespread draft.

Eligibility and Potential Negative Impacts

The Selective Service System would likely use a national lottery based on randomly drawn birthdates, reminiscent of the Vietnam War-era system, if conscription was enforced.

The order of induction would typically prioritize the following, in order of most likely conscripted:

20-year-olds first

21-year-olds

22–25-year-olds

18- and 19-year-olds

Those selected would first report for medical and administrative screening before any induction into military service.

Currently, young men must register themselves within 30 days of turning age 18 while late registration remains allowed until a man’s 26th birthday. Failure to register could affect eligibility for federal student financial aid, government employment and other benefits.

The current administration and Pentagon has lauded its recruiting numbers across all services. Numbers for draft registration in 2024 included 81% of eligible males, down from 84% the previous year per congressional data.

Leaked DOJ report finds Biden admin colluded with abortionists to target pro-lifers

'The DOJ – led by Sanjay Patel – was used to smash the lives of peaceful protestors who dared to intervene on behalf of innocent babies,' Randall Terry told LifeSiteNews.

A nearly 60-page report form the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) containing “damning evidence of collusion and unethical behavior” between the Biden-era DOJ and pro-abortion entities, including the National Abortion Federation (NAF), has been leaked the leftist news outlet MS Now.

“Upon assuming office, the Biden DOJ shattered the public’s trust by weaponizing the FACE Act to advance a pro-abortion agenda, and DOJ’s Civil Rights Division was at the forefront of this weaponization,” says the draft, according to MS Now.

Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue who has seen the evidence on which the report was based, spoke to LifeSiteNews after the leak of the document. According to MS Now, the document is likely to be publicly released as early as next week. Terry told LifeSite that he and Terrisa Bukovinac, founder of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), were granted access to the unredacted records on March 4, 2026. Bukovinac and Terry met with DOJ officials in Washington, D.C., because the documents reference Terry by name and Bukovinac’s organization.

Terry said the report contains clear evidence of unethical coordination between Biden lead prosecutor Sanjay Patel and pro-abortion groups, including the NAF, while more than 70 attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers in the months after Roe v. Wade was overturned went largely uninvestigated and unprosecuted.

The DOJ documents include:

an email from NAF inviting Patel to speak at their fundraiser,

an email in which Patel was helping NAF obtain a significant financial grant,

emails from Patel in which he discussed prosecuting two pro-abortion activists because he was concerned that his bias against pro-lifers was becoming too visible.

In his communication with NAF, Patel was also allegedly suggesting ways to increase prison time for pro-lifers engaged in peaceful activities, to create fear among pro-life activists.

Terry noted that while Patel was providing detailed information to NAF upon request leading up to trial, when defendant Joan Andrews Bell asked for similar information, she was told it wasn’t available.

Terry pointed to another Patel tactic in court demonstrating his extreme bias against pro-lifers. During one trial, Patel urged the judge to prevent PAAU founding board member Herb Geraghty from sharing his atheism with the jury, claiming it would bias the jury in his favor.

Bukovinac, also an atheist, says: “Sanjay Patel has abused his power to viciously separate families and cover-up the real crimes happening at abortion centers across the country. He is a tool of Biden’s oppression of nonviolent pro-life people… Patel should be fired, prosecuted, and publicly shamed for his crimes.”

Safety review links herb in popular cold and flu supplements with life-threatening anaphylaxis

A herb found in popular cold and flu supplements in Australia has officially been linked with life-threatening anaphylaxis.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has completed a safety review of Andrographis paniculata, which is used in approximately 84 listed medicines that are marketed to relieve cold and flu symptoms and boost immunity.

Listed medicines are regulated as low-risk, can only contain ingredients that are classified as low-risk and can be bought from retail outlets including pharmacies.

The TGA's safety review has found that people taking supplements containing Andrographis have experienced "unpredictable" reactions to the herb, regardless of whether they have taken the product for the first time or have used it previously.

Since 2005, the regulator has received 1,368 reports of adverse reactions related to medicines containing Andrographis, including 287 incidents of anaphylaxis.

"The sustained high reporting pattern since 2019 indicates that Andrographis is associated with risk of life-threatening anaphylaxis which is inconsistent with the low-risk regulatory framework for listed medicines," the TGA's report stated.

"Current risk mitigation strategies, including stronger label warnings, have not reduced the risk of anaphylaxis from Andrographis for it to be suitable for use in listed medicines."

Connie Katelaris AM is a professor of immunology and allergy at Western Sydney University and has been warning the TGA that the risk posed by the herb outweighs any perceived benefits.

"This stuff causes harm. It has caused death … and this is a global thing," Professor Katelaris said.

"We've got data from many countries showing adverse responses to this product.

"I am in complete agreement with the [TGA's] conclusions that it's unsafe and that despite warnings and stickers on bottles, these things have been inadequate in stopping people using it and still having reactions."

In 2019, products containing Andrographis had to carry a warning label stating that the ingredient may cause allergic reactions in some people.

In August 2024, BioCeuticals, which manufactures ArmaForce, one of the most popular cold and flu supplements containing the herb, updated its warning label to say that the product may cause anaphylaxis.
