Ex-CNN host Don Lemon arrested for Minnesota church invasion
Disgraced ex-CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested late Thursday over the anti-ICE protest that stormed a Minnesota church during Sunday service, according to his attorney.
“Don Lemon was taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards,” Lemon’s attorney Abbe Lowell said in a statement shared with multiple reporters.
Lemon spent the night in jail and is expected to make a first appearance in court sometime Friday, according to Brian Stelter, the chief media analyst for Lemon’s former network.

The U.N. chief has told states that the organization is at risk of "imminent financial collapse," citing unpaid fees and a budget rule that forces the global body to return unspent money, according to a letter seen by Reuters on Friday.
"The crisis is deepening, threatening program delivery and risking financial collapse. And the situation will deteriorate further in the near future," United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a letter to member states dated Jan. 28.
A U.N. spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

And that’s exactly what’s happening now:
• Exchange-level stress
• LME effectively shut
• Growing uncertainty around physical silver settlement
• Bid-ask spreads blowing out to $1–$2/oz
• Western paper prices collapsing while Shanghai (real metal) is down just ~4%
This is a liquidity fracture.
Add fuel to the fire:
Markets are now pricing in a stronger dollar post the next Fed Chair appointment.
That combination —
🧨 forced liquidation
🧨 settlement fear
🧨 dollar strength
— is how bubbles don’t deflate… they snap.
Gold averages ~+3% per year.
It’s down nearly 3× that in ONE DAY.
Silver’s down 5× its average annual move in 24 hours.
I’ve studied markets for over two decades.
I’ve seen crashes.
I’ve seen panics.
I’ve never seen this kind of structural stress at this speed.
The next phase will be extreme volatility, unlike anything most investors have lived through.
Traders must be very careful in the next 6 days because of ripples effects.
I’ll say clearly when risk flips back to reward. Until then….This is not a dip.
This is the system showing its cracks.

Members of the conspiracy and TdA would travel in groups, using multiple vehicles, to the locations of targeted banks and credit unions. These groups would conduct initial reconnaissance and take note of external security features at the ATMs. Following this reconnaissance, the groups would open the hood or door of ATMs and then wait nearby to see whether they had triggered an alarm or a law enforcement response. The groups would then take steps to install malware on the ATMs, by removing the hard drive and installing the malware directly, by replacing the hard drive with one that had been pre-loaded with the Ploutus malware, or by connecting an external device such as a thumb drive that would deploy the malware. The Ploutus malware’s primary purpose was to issue unauthorized commands associated with the Cash Dispensing Module of the ATM in order to force withdrawals of currency. The Ploutus malware was also designed to delete evidence of malware in an effort to conceal, create a false impression, mislead, or otherwise deceive employees of the banks and credit unions from learning about the deployment of the malware on the ATM. Members of the conspiracy would then split the proceeds in predetermined portions.

NGC 1333 is seen in visible light as a reflection nebula, dominated by bluish hues characteristic of starlight reflected by interstellar dust. A mere 1,000 light-years distant toward the heroic constellation Perseus, it lies at the edge of a large, star-forming molecular cloud. This telescopic close-up spans over two full moons on the sky or just over 15 light-years at the estimated distance of NGC 1333. It shows details of the dusty region along with telltale hints of contrasty red emission from Herbig-Haro objects, jets and shocked glowing gas emanating from recently formed stars. In fact, NGC 1333 contains hundreds of stars less than a million years old, most still hidden from optical telescopes by the pervasive stardust. The chaotic environment may be similar to one in which our own Sun formed over 4.5 billion years ago.

Moscow records heaviest snowfall in over 200 years

Russia’s capital Moscow has this month seen the largest snowfall in more than 200 years, Moscow State University meteorologists said on Thursday.
AFP images from the city of around 13 million people showed residents struggling to make their way through heavy piles of snow on the streets in its central district.
Commuter trains in the Moscow area were delayed, AFP reporters witnessed, and cars were stuck in long traffic jams on Thursday evening.
“January was a cold and unusually snowy month in Moscow,” the university said on social media.
“By January 29, the Moscow State University Meteorological Observatory had recorded almost 92 mm of precipitation, which is already the highest value in the last 203 years,” it added.
Snow piles on the ground reached as high as 60 centimetres (24 inches) in some parts of the capital on Thursday.
Snow is mostly air, meaning the level of settled snow far surpasses scientific measurements of precipitation — which measures the amount of water that has fallen.
The record snowfall was “caused by deep and extensive cyclones with sharp atmospheric fronts passing over the Moscow region”, the observatory said.
“There was much more (snow) when I was a kid, but now we practically don’t have any snow at all, there used to be much more,” Pavel, a 35-year-old bartender and Moscow resident, told AFP, grumbling about a feeling of “emptiness” in the dark, snowy winter.
Earlier this month, Russia’s far east Kamchatka region declared an emergency situation due to a massive snowstorm that left its major city partially paralysed.

Rob Kientz, a former forensic accountant, said that people are defaulting on credit cards and auto loans; mortgages are next. The current unemployment rate is 4.4%, and there are not enough jobs being created for all the layoffs that are coming due, in large part, to AI, automation and robotics. 72% of spending comes from consumers, and mass layoffs will lead to a serious recession. He predicted a stock market crash. The bond rates have gone up to 4.3%; once borrowing costs hit 5% on sovereign debt, the US government has a hard time with tax receipts paying that out without just borrowing a lot more money.
Rob said that eventually we’ll have a “nasty” recession, the stock market will pullback, and there will be a bond market explosion. Gold and silver will come down temporarily because the price is determined on the spot market/ derivative market. Eventually, the physical demand will overwhelm the spot price and gold and silver will shoot back up despite the pullback along the way. He thinks that with de-dollarization, defiatization, CBDC’s, robotization, and AI, that consumers are being taken out of the equation, which is going to lead to more problems with spending, tax receipts, and government being able to fund its excesses.
The long-term outlook is a mandatory constriction of government expenditures and/ or the collapse of fiat currencies.
The media fails to report on these important issues and the American public is unaware of the decline in fiat currency.

A recent peer-review study reported that an orally administered ethanolic [alcohol] lemongrass extract (Cymbopogon citratus at ~80 mg/kg/day) for a period of three weeks dramatically suppressed tumor growth, by 95%, in a human lymphoma grafted onto a mouse model, while selectively inducing apoptosis [cell death] in cancer cells and sparing normal cells. Dandelion root extract also showed remarkable results.
The same extract selectively induced apoptosis in multiple human lymphoma and leukemia cell lines in vitro, acting through ROS-dependent extrinsic apoptosis, mitochondrial depolarization, and collapse of cancer-cell oxidative metabolism.

A 28-Hour Movie of 3I/ATLAS from TESS
January 29, 2026
NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, abbreviated as TESS, recorded a large series of images of the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS as the object was receding away from the Sun between January 15 to 22, 2026.
In the resulting TESS video, available here, 3I/ATLAS appears as a bright glowing dot with an anti-tail directed towards the Sun, across a crowded field of background stars.
In collaboration with Toni Scarmato, I plan to search the resulting video for a periodic variability in brightness and wobbling of the anti-tail as a result of the rotation period of 7.1 hours that we inferred in our paper here, based on Hubble Space Telescope images.
The TESS data is publicly available on the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes
TESS scans a wide section of the sky for roughly a month at a time, in search for variations in the light from distant stars in case their planets transit in front of them.
The spacecraft’s wide field of view happened to capture 3I/ATLAS as early as in May 2025, nearly a couple of months before it was discovered.
The early detection was made possible retroactively by stacking multiple images of 3I/ATLAS together (as reported here and here).
After coadding more than 9,000 images from May-June 2025, the resulting brightness profile of 3I/ATLAS appeared similar to inactive sources of light, with no extended glow or anti-tail (as reported here).
The new observations of 3I/ATLAS were interrupted from January 15 to 18, 2026, when TESS entered a safe mode following an issue with its solar panels.
TESS team member, Daniel Muthukrishna from MIT, compiled the series of available images into a 28-hour video that shows 3I/ATLAS’s trajectory with a time jump from January 15 to 18, 2026.
As a result of low angular resolution, the TESS movie of 3I/ATLAS appeared uneventful.
A sharper view of 3I/ATLAS is available from 36 snapshots of 3I/ATLAS taken by the Hubble Space Telescope between November 30, 2025 and January 22, 2026 — when our interstellar dating partner was aligned with the Earth-Sun axis to within 0.69 degrees.

The next highlight would involve the passage of 3I/ATLAS near the Hill radius of Jupiter (where Jupiter’s gravity dominates over the Sun’s tide) on March 16, 2026, when the Juno spacecraft will be able to observe it from a distance of 53.6 million kilometers with its optical and infrared cameras, particle detector, magnetic field and plasma wave sensors, microwave radiometer and radio dipole antenna.
If 3I/ATLAS transmits a technological signal or releases probes into a Jupiter-bound orbit, the ending of the 3I/ATLAS video will involve a climax better than any science fiction movie imagined by script writers in Hollywood.

As the Department restores America’s fighting force, the newly established Science, Technology and Innovation Board (STIB) is charged with solving complex national security problems for the Secretary of War, the Deputy Secretary of War, the Under Secretaries of War, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other senior Department officials. The new board, established by the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering (USW(R&E)) merges the Defense Science Board (DSB) and its deep expertise in addressing complex scientific and technical issues with the Defense Innovation Board (DIB) and its commitment to streamlining and enhancing departmentwide processes and best practices. The STIB consolidates the DSB and DIB missions to amplify their strategic value to meet critical national security challenges and ensure new technology innovations are rapidly and efficiently delivered to the warfighter.
The name, Science, Technology and Innovation Board integrates “Science” to honor the DSB’s foundational expertise in tackling complex technical challenges and driving warfighter success through adopted recommendations on policies, architectures, and deterrence; “Technology” to underscore both boards’ emphasis on emerging tools, rapid prototyping and commercial opportunities; and “Innovation” to spotlight the DIB’s infusion of agile, disruptive private-sector best-practices.
The new Board creates a more holistic enterprise that synergizes the more siloed efforts of its predecessors. In a rapidly developing threat landscape, it signals a forward-looking evolution and a call for integrated excellence in national security.
The Charter of the STIB establishes it as a discretionary board managed in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) (5 U.S.C., Appendix).
The strength of the Board lies in the expertise of the members, selected in accordance with the Membership Balance Plan, who bring their expertise to studies and assessments that yield actionable recommendations for DoW and Administration priorities.
Each year, the Board is tasked to study a breadth of cutting-edge S&T and related policy issues critical to national security. Topics are directed by the USW(R&E) in the Terms of Reference (ToR) specific to each study.
At the conclusion of studies, the Board produces briefings and written reports to assist senior leaders in achieving the Department’s missions and top priorities.
Most recently, these issues have included advanced capabilities for potential future conflict, use of generative artificial intelligence, revitalization of the defense industrial base, integration of commercial space systems, use of digital engineering tools, the future of cyber warfare and the emergence of novel biotechnologies.
Throughout their history, both the DSB and DIB have anticipated pivotal technological and doctrinal trends in competition and conflict, and the new Board will continue to play a recognized role in helping to solve the Department’s most vexing challenges through science, technology and innovation.

As the former Principal Scientist for Biotechnology for the @USNavy, Dr. Vora has extensive experience advancing biotechnologies from the laboratory to operational use as Programs of Record.

Dr. Robert Mantz will serve as the Senior Official for the Contested Logistics Technologies CTA. With more than four decades of federal service, Dr. Mantz has held senior roles at the @USArmy Research Office and @DARPA, where he oversaw major programs in energy storage and advanced power systems. His background in research management, technology transition, and logistics‑focused innovation will guide the @DeptofWar’s efforts to advance and implement solutions that strengthen operational efficiency in contested logistics environments.

Dr. Kevin Rudd, a nationally recognized leader in electronic warfare, radar, RF systems and advanced sensing, will lead the Quantum and Battlefield Information Dominance CTA. Dr. Rudd has a proven record of delivering disruptive capabilities from research to operational transition at @DARPA and the Office of Naval Research.

A newly released image from the NISAR mission has showcased the satellite’s ability to penetrate cloud cover and reveal detailed features of Earth’s surface, offering fresh insights into landscapes and ecosystems, while the science team has also made new sample datasets available.
The colourful image, created using data gathered by the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite in late autumn, focuses on the Mississippi River Delta region in southeastern Louisiana.
It captures major landmarks including New Orleans and Baton Rouge, the Mississippi River, Lake Pontchartrain, and a diverse patchwork of wetlands, farmland, forests and residential areas.
Unlike optical imagery taken the same day, which was largely obscured by clouds, the radar-based image clearly maps the terrain below.
The release comes as the NISAR project prepares to provide thousands of mission data files for download in late February, with a smaller batch of sample files already issued to help researchers prepare for the larger dataset.
While the satellite underwent post-launch system checks following its July liftoff, NASA’s science team extracted early measurements from its L-band synthetic aperture radar to produce demonstration maps highlighting the instrument’s capabilities.
Developed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, the L-band radar uses microwaves with a wavelength of about 24 centimetres, allowing signals to pass through clouds and image the ground beneath.
Captured on November 29, the image demonstrates how the radar can distinguish between vegetation, trees and built environments — a capability crucial for tracking forests and wetlands, as well as monitoring crops worldwide.
Different colours in the image reflect varying land cover types and how they scatter radar signals.
Sections of New Orleans appear green, while other parts show magenta tones depending on street orientation and building layout.
The resolution is sharp enough to reveal the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway — twin bridges stretching nearly 39 kilometres, recognised as the world’s longest continuous bridge over water.
Beyond urban features, healthy forests west of the Mississippi River appear bright green, while areas of Maurepas Swamp display mixed yellow and magenta hues, indicating thinning tree populations.
Agricultural plots on both sides of the river are also visible, with darker shades suggesting fallow fields and brighter colours pointing to taller vegetation such as crops.
Data products generated from NISAR’s L-band measurements will be available through the Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center in Fairbanks, which stores and distributes NASA’s SAR data.
Officials said insights from NISAR are expected to support disaster response, infrastructure monitoring and agricultural management.
NISAR is a joint mission between NASA and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was launched on July 30 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre on India’s southeastern coast.
Managed by Caltech, JPL leads the US contribution and supplies the L-band SAR and antenna reflector, while ISRO provides the spacecraft bus and S-band SAR.
The satellite is the first to carry two SAR instruments operating at different wavelengths and will observe Earth’s land and ice surfaces twice every 12 days.
It gathers data using a large drum-shaped reflector measuring 12 metres wide — the largest radar antenna reflector NASA has ever sent into space.

PRODUCER PRICE INDEXES - DECEMBER 2025
The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.5 percent in December, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices advanced 0.2 percent in November and 0.1 percent in October. (See table A.) On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand rose 3.0 percent in 2025 after moving up 3.5 percent in 2024.
The December increase in prices for final demand can be traced to a 0.7-percent advance in the index for final demand services. Prices for final demand goods were unchanged.
The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services moved up 0.4 percent in December, the eighth consecutive increase. Prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services rose 3.5 percent in 2025 following a 3.6-percent advance in 2024.
