Earlier, the U.S. military confirmed the latest strike on a suspect drug boat.

As the U.S. military continues its campaign targeting alleged drug cartel boats, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is convening a rare meeting of all of the top military leaders from the 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere.

This will be the first time that such a meeting has been convened and appears to be focused on improving cooperation against drug trafficking and criminal organizations.

The meeting is set for Feb. 11, according to a statement from the Joint Chiefs of Staff provided to ABC News.

“60 Minutes” staffers — who includeveteran producers and correspondents like Lesley Stahl and Bill Whitaker, along with Alfonsi and Pelley — are said to be especially disdainful, voicing serious doubts about Weiss’ qualifications for the job.

CBS sources have griped that their new 41-year-old boss — who became editor in chief after Paramount Skydance bought her contrarian website the Free Press for $150 million— lacks television experience.

Network insiders have also scrutinized Weiss’ journalism chops —noting her background is in opinion writing, not reporting— and taken exception to her vocal political views.A strong supporter of Israel, Weiss has described herself as a “Zionist fanatic.”

She also reportedlyaccused him of being “a mouthpiece” for the Trump administrationand asked him whether he had ever produced a minute of TV news before. He responded that he had, and told her not to take anything personally, the report said.

Prior to the flare-up, Alfonsi wrote colleagues that she thought the move to shelve the story was politically motivated — not driven by journalistic standards.Pelley also weighed in, reportedly saying Weiss needed to take her job “more seriously” during an internal meeting last month.

The CECOT piece aired Sunday with 3 minutes of additional material, including updated data about the prisoners deported to CECOT and information that one of the detainees interviewed in the report had tattoos of a swastika and the number 666, which is associated with the Aryan Brotherhood.

The back-and-forth over the CECOT story came as Paramount Skydance has been trying to prevent Netflix from buying Warner Bros. Discovery. The Trump administration supports Paramount in the politically charged bidding war, as The Post previously reported.

Meanwhile,Pelley’s running commentary on the state of journalism-has irked Ellison, who is said to “not be happy” with the reporter’s remarks.

At a commencement speech last summer, Pelley raged against President Trump and proclaimed that journalism is “under attack.” He also sounded off about the state of “60 Minutes” at a recent awards ceremony, asserting that Paramount hasn’t had any influence on its reporting.

News that President Donald Trump is interested in buying Greenland prompted mockery on Thursday when it was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

But it wouldn’t be the first time a President has sought to buy Arctic land from another country: In 1867, President Andrew Johnson bought Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million.

It wouldn’t even be the first time the U.S. has tried to bag Greenland. Back in 1946, officials offered Denmark $100 million in gold bars for the world’s largest island, a Danish autonomous territory. U.S. officials at the time thought it was a “military necessity.”

That 1946 offer was supposed to be a secret. (It was only widely revealed in 1991, when declassified documents were discovered by a Danish newspaper.) But in 1947, TIME caught a whiff of similar plans.

“This week, as U.S. strategists studied the azimuthal map of the Arctic,” TIME’s Jan. 27, 1947 issue reads, “Washington military men thought this might be as good a time as any to buy Greenland, if they could.”

The article is accompanied by a map titled “Arctic Circles,” which shows concentric circles emanating from both Alaska and Greenland––emphasizing Greenland’s proximity to European capitals including Moscow.

There was no word of the classified $100 million offer made by U.S. officials a year earlier, but TIME suggested that “military men” had considered writing off Denmark’s $70 million debt in return for Greenland.

The news came at a time of insecure postwar peace. The U.S. had emerged from the Second World War victorious, but the Cold War was already brewing. Tensions with the Soviet Union were out in the open, including over U.S. presence in the Arctic. “So long as U.S. servicemen—even radio beacon operators and weathermen—remain at Greenland outposts, the U.S. is exposed to verbal sniping from Moscow for ‘keeping troops on foreign soil,’” TIME noted.

Buying Greenland, the piece went on, would be the best way to solve that problem. It would also win the U.S. a substantial military advantage:

The strategic concerns mentioned in the 1947 TIME article might not be too distant from those on Trump’s mind. But there is one important exception: today, as sea ice recedes thanks to global warming, the once-icebound Arctic is rapidly emerging as a potential new sea route for trade vessels and warships.

“Steady reductions in sea ice are opening new passageways and new opportunities for trade,” Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in May. “This could potentially slash the time it takes to travel between Asia and the West by as much as 20 days. Arctic sea lanes could [become] the 21st century Suez and Panama Canals.”

But as students of history will know, that means the area around Greenland could also become the site of a 21st century political crisis.

It might feel good at the moment to try to stick his finger in what he thinks is President Trump's eye. Today I was fired by NY Attorney General Letitia James for speaking out against pediatric gender medicine (PGM).

James supports "transitioning" kids with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery. She sued the federal government to protect the PGM industry from investigations and funding cuts. And she argued (dubiously) that doctors who decline to offer PGM are liable for "discrimination."

I was an attorney in NYAG's consumer frauds bureau, which did not work on anything related to PGM. Since 2024 I'd been raising the alarm publicly and within NYAG that PGM providers may be engaged in a dangerous consumer fraud. James's officials treated me like a pest.

These attorneys struggled to explain why my public statements were problematic, apparently because they weren't engaging with the issue. When the general counsel finally identified an objectionable line in my blog, it was where I stated the holding of US v. Skrmetti (banning PGM isn't discriminatory). She wrote that it contradicted James's legal position. Indeed.

NYAG's ethics chief warned me it was unethical to "take public legal positions that conflict with" James's. The Rule of Professional Conduct that he cited said no such thing. It seemed he was trying to protect James by cowing me into silence.

I'm a lesbian, i.e., a "member of the LGBTQ community" that James purports to champion. I tried to explain to NYAG officials that PGM, by its nature, targets children who defy sexed norms – whom studies show are more likely to be gay when they grow up. PGM can reportedly leave them with sexual dysfunction, chronic genital pain, and incontinence, among all sorts of other side effects. No one in authority at NYAG showed interest in the concern that PGM may be homophobic.

If Letitia James actually cared about "LGBTQ" youth then she'd research "gender" drugs and learn what they do. Instead she glibly calls the drugs "safe" and fires me for contradicting her.

I've practiced public interest law for my entire 15-year career. My social circles are full of progressive lawyers. Like most Americans, they tend to be leery of PGM. But their leaders on the left treat it like a battle of good vs. evil. That makes ordinary people afraid to voice skepticism. James's behavior toward me illustrates why the public discussion of PGM is often one-sided in places like NYC – and so strikingly different from what you hear behind closed doors.

James was wrong to treat me like a pest. I was trying to warn her about red flags for fraud that I saw around PGM – that's what she hired me to do. I was honored to serve in the consumer frauds bureau and thought my colleagues there did great work. I still do. I hope someday they'll investigate PGM providers.

In the end NYAG accused me of engaging in "disruptive public speech." Unfortunately, that's not true. I haven't disrupted the Democratic elite's zombie-like devotion to PGM providers. But I'm just getting started.

That orbit is considered distant because it's another 92,000 kilometers beyond the Moon, and retrograde because the spacecraft orbited in the opposite direction of the Moon's orbit around planet Earth. During an interview aired by 12 News, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) said she does not consider Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “officers” to be “real law enforcement.”

She specifically put the word “officers” in quotation marks, saying, “I put that in air quotes because I don’t think they are real law enforcement.”

Mayes claimed that ICE officers “are poorly trained” and said to ICE, “We are watching you. If you violate an Arizona law I will prosecute you, we will investigate you, and we will make sure that Arizona laws are enforced.”

Breitbart News noted Mayes discussed Arizona’s “Stand Your Ground” law later in the interview. During a January 20, 2026, interview posted by 12 News NBC, Mayes discussed Arizona’s “Stand Your Ground” law, noting that it is one of the most expansive such laws in the country.

Arizona Police Association executive director Joe Clure said:

During a televised interview with 12News journalist Brahm Resnik regarding a potential ICE deployment in Arizona, the Attorney General was asked whether she had a message for protesters. She responded by urging them to remain peaceful, respectful, and restrained, stating she would “protect” them…

However, the interview quickly shifted to a discussion of Arizona’s self-defense and “Stand Your Ground” laws. In that context, Attorney General Mayes went on to describe scenarios under which a person could claim legal justification for shooting a law enforcement officer, specifically citing the possibility that ICE agents might not be easily identifiable due to masks or nontraditional uniforms.

Later in the letter, Clure said, “As Arizona’s chief law enforcement officer, the Attorney General has a responsibility to de-escalate, not inflame. We find these remarks reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous to the safety of all law enforcement professionals in this state.”

Hayes should be arrested on calling on hit jobs against ICEno stepping down, arrest and prosecute her.

Hubble Images of 3I/ATLAS During Its Rare Alignment with the Sun-Earth Axis on January 22, 2026

Good news. The rare cosmic alignment between the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS, the Earth and the Sun, was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope on January 22, 2026.

A new set of six 170 second exposures, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope between 13:10:30 and 13:43:33 UTC on January 22, 2026, were just posted here.

The exposures display brightness maps of the glowing halo surrounding 3I/ATLAS. The glow is elongated by about 100,000 kilometers in the direction of the Sun, a length scale which is about ten times larger than the Earth’s diameter.

In a new paper that I published with Mauro Barbieri here, we alerted astronomers to this “full Moon phase” of 3I/ATLAS when observers from Earth will see it from the direction of the Sun to within an extremely small misalignment angle of just 0.012 radians.

This rare alignment resulted in a brightness surge whose magnitude and growth rate are dictated by the composition and structure of the particles shed by jets of 3I/ATLAS. No new data other than the Hubble images was made public as of yet.

When the Hubble images from the January 22, 2026 alignment were processed by my collaborator Toni Scarmato through the Larson-Sekanina Rotational Gradient filter — which removes the circularly symmetric glow around the nucleus, the residuals showed the system of 4 jets, including a prominent anti-tail directed nearly towards the Sun and Earth, supplemented by three mini-jets.

The mini-jets are equally separated from each other by an angle of 120 degrees, and one of them (labeled by a position angle PA=120 degrees in the above image) is faint, possibly because it is hidden in an unfavorable orientation relative to Earth.

If the anti-tail had been exactly pointed at Earth, it would have been embedded in the circularly symmetric glow around 3I/ATLAS.

However, in the latest paper that I co-authored with Toni Scarmato (available here), we showed that the jet system wobbles periodically every 7.2 hours by +/- 20 degrees around the rotation axis.

This explains why it is unlikely for the anti-tail jet to be aligned to better than 20 degrees with the Sun-Earth axis most of the time.

Among the 18 anomalies of 3I/ATLAS listed here, we still do not know the nature of the anti-tail that allows it to penetrate hundreds of thousands of kilometers through the Solar wind and radiation without being deflected away from the Sun, as often is the case in familiar cometary tails.

Is the anti-tail composed of fragments of ice (as suggested in a paper I published with Eric Keto here), large dust grains (as I suggested here), or massive objects (as I published here)?

The symmetric system of 3 mini-jets that supplement the anti-tail remains a potential technological signature (as discussed here).

As I explained in a new television interview an hour ago (posted here), there is still a lot to learn about 3I/ATLAS. The best is likely yet to come.
