VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Established almost 500 years ago, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is no longer “the Inquisition” — rather, its main focus is handing down the teachings of the apostles, said the office’s prefect.

“Our mission is to promote and protect the doctrine of the faith. It is a task that will always be necessary for the church, which has the duty to transmit the teaching of the apostles to the next generation,” Cardinal Luis Ladaria Ferrer, congregation prefect, told Vatican News Feb. 1.

Called the Sacred Roman and Universal Inquisition when it was instituted in 1542, the congregation was initially a tribunal exclusively for cases of heresy and schism, but soon its responsibilities were expanded to include “everything relating directly or indirectly to faith and morals,” according to the congregation’s website.

Of the many people examined in the early days, the one mentioned most often is Italian scientist Galileo Galilei, who was found “vehemently suspect of heresy.” St. John Paul II issued a declaration in 1992, recognizing the error of Galileo’s trial.

The Index of Forbidden Books was originally entrusted to the Inquisition until it became its own congregation for three centuries until 1917 when its duties were again handed back to the Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office — the Inquisition’s new name after it was reorganized by Pope Pius X in 1908.

It was again reformed in 1965 by St. Paul VI and renamed the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The Index of Prohibited Books was also abrogated.

Cardinal Ladaria told Vatican News, “The past of our congregation still weighs heavily, since we have not always acknowledged the profound changes that have taken place in the church and in the Roman Curia in recent times.”

“We are no longer the Inquisition; the index no longer exists,” he said.

“What was called the ‘concern for correct doctrine’ came about before the Holy Office, it already existed in the New Testament” and it can be seen in the many councils and synods held since, he added.

“Certainly, the concrete way of carrying out this task has changed over the course of the centuries and we can imagine that it will continue to change,” the cardinal said. “But the concern for fidelity to the doctrine of the apostles will always remain.”

According to the office’s website, the methods used for doctrinal examination were updated in the 1965 reforms, emphasizing that “over the punitive tendency of condemnation, the positive disposition of correcting from the errors, together with protection, preservation and promotion of the faith, prevailed.”

In 2001, St. John Paul II charged the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith with the authority to handle cases of accusations of the sexual abuse of minors by clergy and an updated version of these norms was promulgated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.

The changes allowed the Vatican to identify and judge reported cases and issue sanctions more rapidly than had been the case before.

Regarding this aspect of the congregation’s work, Cardinal Ladaria said, “We must study and resolve the many cases of abuse of which we become aware.”

“And in dealing with these cases, we raise awareness, we support trust in the church, of the people involved, showing that in the church there is no impunity,” he said.

He said the “ad limina visits,” which bishops from around the world make periodically to the Vatican to report on the state of their dioceses, “are fundamental to raising awareness of the problem among the episcopates of the various countries. Unfortunately, in recent months, because of the pandemic, we have had to suspend these meetings.”

Even with its focus on “doctrine,” he said the congregation still seeks to respond to Pope Francis’ call to reach out and respond to modern-day “peripheries” and to be close to the poor and marginalized.

“There are peripheries of many kinds. The people we must listen to, the problems we must solve touch real peripheries, perhaps not as visible as others, but no less real and painful. Let us not forget that in not a few circumstances the victims of abuse are among the poorest of the poor,” he said.

This week, Senator Chuck Grassley released Department of Justice and FBI records that provide a new look on how FBI and DOJ leadership sabotaged the investigation into the Clinton Foundation.

These records, which include internal emails, summaries of high-level meetings and calls, and intelligence from confidential human sources, reveal the Clinton Foundation investigation was sabotaged from the start.

During the Obama Administration, both DOJ and FBI leadership were openly hostile to the investigation. US Attorneys declined to cooperate, denying requests for subpoenas or other investigative support. And during the first Trump Administration, actors within the FBI and DOJ obstructed and delayed the development of the investigation by not approving the release of FBI materials and slowing the release of witness interviews to investigators. A frustrating tale of corruption and incompetence.

Relying on these new documents, as well as other public source materials and Special Counsel John Durham’s report, here is the comprehensive timeline of the Clinton Foundation investigation, as well as other parts of the overall Clinton corruption investigation that are relevant. It is an infuriating tale of corruption and incompetence from the highest levels of government which ultimately protected the Clinton’s schemes to trade on their political influence for millions of dollars.

Let’s get into it.

2010: Predication to investigate the Clinton Foundation is established. A call between Sant Singh Chatwal and foreign donors about giving to Hillary Clinton is monitored by the FBI. Chatwal is a wealthy NYC magnate and longtime friend of the Clintons. He served on the Clinton Foundation board and was a Clinton Foundation donor, as well as a Democratic fundraiser.

2014: “Beginning in late 2014, before Clinton formally declared her presidential candidacy, the FBI learned from a well-placed CHS that a foreign government was planning to send an individual to contribute to Clinton’s anticipated presidential campaign, as a way to gain influence with Clinton should she win the presidency.”

An FBI field office sought FISA coverage of the foreign person who would contribute to Hillary’s campaign. They sought expedited approval of the FISA application from FBI headquarters, who let the application linger “for approximately four months” because FBI headquarters was “scared with the big name Clinton involved”, as she may be the next President.

The FISA was approved on the condition that Clinton and her campaign be given a defensive briefing. The logic behind the defensive briefing was that “the investigation might interfere with a presumed future presidential campaign.” In other words, they didn’t want to spoil Hillary’s chances.

2015: Through a CHS, the FBI learns of another foreign government seeking to influence the Hillary Clinton campaign. The foreign government’s plan is to set up a meeting with Clinton to propose campaign contributions in exchange for the protection of the foreign government’s interests should Clinton become president.

The FBI learns that this CHS – a foreign national – made a $2,700 campaign contribution through another party, in violation of federal law. The FBI further learned through the CHS that the Clinton campaign was “aware” of the contribution and “okay” with it. Yet the FBI does not document the illegal contribution in its records and the handling agent instructed the CHS to “stay away from all events relating to Clinton’s campaign.”

2015: The FBI’s Washington Field Office takes notice of corruption by the Clinton Foundation, which was thoroughly documented by Peter Schweizer’s “Clinton Cash.” They hold a meeting with the DOJ to discuss the potential for an investigation.

Timeline: The Sabotage Of The Clinton Foundation InvestigationPart Two

January 2016: The New York FBI field office and the Washington FBI Field Office open preliminary investigations into the Clinton Foundation. The Little Rock Field Office opens a full field investigation.

The Little Rock and New York FBI field office investigations “included predication based on source reporting that identified foreign governments that had made, or offered to make, contributions to the Foundation in exchange for favorable or preferential treatment from Clinton.”

January 2016: FBI leadership told the field offices to “not take any investigative steps until the matter was discussed with DOJ.”

January 22, 2016: The FBI New York field office submits case opening regarding Clinton Foundation and Clinton/Giustra Enterprise Partnership.

January 27, 2016: FBI little Rock requests full investigation regarding the Clinton Foundation and Giustra Enterprise Partnership; Uranium One; Frank Giustra; and Ian Telfer.

January 29, 2016: The FBI Washington Field Office makes a request to Main Justice to open a preliminary investigation on the Clinton Foundation. The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Public Integrity Section (PIN) and the DOJ “support the initiation of a preliminary investigation.”

February 1, 2016: Andrew McCabe is appointed FBI Deputy Director.

February 2016:

The Washington Field Office briefs the DOJ, who “indicated they would not be supportive of an FBI investigation.” Records indicate that the DOJ implied the investigation was only “based on open source reporting and fishing through a book,” though the truth was that the FBI had Suspicious Activity Reporting and their own investigative work at the time.

The DOJ’s reaction to the briefing was “hostile.”

The three FBI field offices – New York, Washington DC, and Little Rock – are informed that investigative steps would require approval of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. They are further instructed “not to open or recruit any new confidential human sources, and no additional overt investigative steps were authorized.”

Discussing the Clinton Foundation investigation, Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates tells the Eastern District of Arkansas to “shut it down.”

February 17, 2016: McCabe was informed of a New York confidential human source who had possible information on the Clinton Foundation. McCabe directed that “no overt investigative steps” be taken on the Clinton Foundation investigation without his approval.

February 22, 2016: Deputy Director McCabe chairs an FBI headquarters meeting to discuss the Clinton Foundation investigations. McCabe initially directed the field offices to close their cases, but agreed to reconsider after the offices voiced their objections. McCabe was visibly “annoyed” and “negative” and “angry” at the meeting, asking “why are we even doing this?” McCabe then instructed that his approval was required for any overt steps.

February 24, 2016: Lisa Page and Peter Strzok exchange these emails regarding the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server while she was Secretary of State:

March 2016: The Eastern District of New York is given permission by the DOJ to meet with a cooperating witness “to review transcripts of the recording between the cooperating witness and an individual associated with the Clinton Foundation.”

May 2016: The New York field office receives a call from FBI headquarters on behalf of Director Comey, instructing them to “cease and desist” from the Clinton Foundation investigation.

June 7, 2016: Hillary Clinton clinches the Democratic presidential nomination.

August 1, 2016: The FBI makes the decision to consolidate the Clinton Foundation investigation into the New York Field Office due to its existing confidential human source and because “the majority of Clinton Foundation operations were based out of New York City.” At this time, the “FBI NYO was advised no overt investigation action was to take place unless authorized by Deputy Director McCabe.”

August 2016: The Eastern District of New York informs the FBI New York Field Office that it “would not support the investigation.” The New York Field Office reaches out to the Southern District of New York, which states “more than likely the decision will be not to proceed.” At this time, New York FBI agents had requested subpoenas for financial documents from several financial institutions.

August 25, 2016: FBI New York conducts interviews (number unknown) for a corruption probe related to Haiti. The subjects included Anthony Rodham (Hillary’s brother), Cheryl Mills (high level Hillary advisor), and the Clinton Foundation.

The CDC, as the nation’s leading public health agency, is responsible for tracking emerging health threats, issuing guidance, and coordinating responses to novel syndromes. However, FOIA responses reveal a lack of civilian-focused efforts on AHI/HS.

A FOIA request submitted November 6, 2024 sought documents on tracking, investigating, and analyzing AHI/HS among U.S. residents with domestic incidents on U.S. soil from January 1, 2018, to November 1, 2024. The CDC’s final response, dated March 3, 2025, from the Office of Safety, Security, and Asset Management (OSSAM), released nine pages of records including fully redacted “CDC Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI) Guidance”. Upon analysis, this redacted document matched the publicly available 2022 DOL Bulletin which advises filing worker compensation claims for AHIs under an ICD-10 code corresponding to Acute Traumatic Brain Injury. This guidance is restricted to federal employees and dependents, with no equivalent for civilians.

On September 29, 2025, Targeted Justice submitted a formal petition urging CDC to recognize civilian AHI/HS, establish surveillance, and provide physician guidance. The agency replied:

For instance, consider a hypothetical scenario where a family is attacked in a hotel room during an AHI: a government employee, their dependent children, and a non-dependent relative (e.g., an adult sibling) all experience AHI. Under current policy, the government would investigate the employee and dependent, but the relative would be ignored, despite identical exposure. This selective approach not only fragments epidemiological data but also raises discrimination concerns, potentially violating principles of equal protection under public health laws like the Public Health Service Act. As mentioned in the Registry Composition section of this Reprot, diagnosed civilian victims are not being tracked or investigated by the DOD that currently leads HS and AHI investigative efforts.

Moreover, the dismissal of civilian victims of Havana Syndrome is not merely passive neglect but involves active suppression, as evidenced by restrictions placed on leading medical experts who previously validated civilian cases. For instance, Dr. Michael E. Hoffer, an otolaryngologist at the University of Miami, informed a civilian patient in 2024:

I hope you didn’t come all this way and be disappointed, but I am not allowed to diagnose Havana Syndrome victims any longer. The government won’t let me.

This statement, provided under penalty of perjury, reflects a policy shift around 2023 where Dr. Hoffer began denying appointments to non-government employees, despite having previously diagnosed civilians using the same criteria. As the EU moves to crush protesting farmers demonstrating in Brussels, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán offered full backing to the farmers and their efforts to stop the EU’s Mercosur free trade deal, which threatens to destroy food security in Europe.

“Farmers are 100 percent right,” said Orbán, who is currently in Brussels attending the EU Summit.

He added that the farmers have obvious issues with the Mercosur package, a free trade agreement with Latin American countries, because it “kills the farmers.”

“Hungary is one of the countries that does not support the Mercosur agreement. There were serious professional debates about this in Hungary, and the Hungarian position was that we do not support this,” said the prime minister.

Viktor Orbán reminded that the agreement would require a qualified majority, and according to his expectations, there is not enough support.

“Mercosur opponents make it impossible for this agreement to be signed. The plan is that the President of the European Commission wants to sign this later this week. I think this needs to be stopped here now, and we can prevent it,” he said.

He also said that another problem for farmers is the Green Deal, which leads to expensive overregulation in agricultural work in such a way that it represents a serious cost and competitive disadvantage for European food producers.

“So I have to say that with the Mercosur agreement, they are shooting European farmers in the foot, but before that, they tie their legs together so that they have no chance in the global competition,” he stated.

“That is why the farmers are absolutely right, the Hungarian government is 100 percent with the farmers,” said the Hungarian leader.

Would this force serve merely as a buffer, facilitating humanitarian logistics and maintaining basic security – or would it have to brush up against the task politically framed as the disarmament of Hamas? At the same time, media coverage suggested that the ISF concept does not envisage waging war on Hamas directly, immediately creating the classic peacekeeping dilemma: The mission is expected to enforce order, yet is given neither the political authorization nor the military model for confronting an organized armed actor determined to challenge that order.

Equally revealing is the dispute over the geography of responsibility. Many potential contributors, it was reported, are far more willing to discuss a presence in areas under Israeli control than in districts where Hamas’ influence persists – or could quickly reconstitute itself. Wexner and Epstein’s relationship has been well documented for over a decade. Wexner famously gave Epstein his 45,000-square-foot, eight-story mansion on East 71st Street in New York City.

The emails show that, despite the Wexner Foundation conducting an “independent review” that claimed Epstein had “no contact” with the foundation’s staff after September 2007, Epstein was regularly consulted for approval and advice on financial transactions. The review was released in 2020 after growing concerns regarding the relationship between the two men.

The emails were obtained by the nonprofit, Distributed Denial of Secrets, and then provided to Drop Site News.

The Wexner Foundation’s review made three main claims, including that Epstein:

“played no role in the management or administration of the Foundation’s operations,”

had “no meaningful role in the Foundation’s budget [or] finances,”

“did not make decisions regarding the use of Foundation’s funds.”

However, reporting by Drop Site News proves these claims are false. Drop Site News reports:

“The emails show that Darren Indyke, who served as both Epstein’s personal lawyer and attorney for the foundation, was the “middleman” in such communications, cloaking Epstein’s foundation-related activities with attorney-client privilege.

In email after email, Wexner financial controller Peg Ugland wrote to Indyke with account balances for a web of Wexner entities—charitable trusts, private investment vehicles, and personal trading accounts—with a recurring refrain: “Please ask Jeffrey if I can transfer.”

Peg Ugland repeatedly asked Epstein’s attorney to “ask Jeffrey” for approval of transfer requests totaling millions of dollars. These included an April 2006 request from Ugland to move $1 million from a Wexner Personal Holdings Corp account at Bear Stearns to a JPMorgan account. Drop Site News found similar transfer requests from 2005 to 2008.

The emails also highlight how Epstein was seen as the decision-maker for which expenses should be covered by Wexner’s numerous entities, how to move assets between entities, as well as approval for large funds transfers for the Wexner accounts. Epstein often advised on IRS filings and multi-million dollar transactions up until December 2007, two months after Epstein was said to have resigned as a trustee of the Wexner Foundation.

The first major gathering of Turning Point USA since the murder of its influential founder Charlie Kirk laid bare divisions over Israel and the embrace of antisemitic figures.

Key figures in the Make America Great Again movement took to the stage in Phoenix on Thursday and Friday to tear into each other, blasting opponents for cozying up to fascists or accusing them of besmirching the memory of Kirk.

Influential podcaster Ben Shapiro came straight out of the gate, attacking former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for an uncritical interview with self-described white nationalist Nick Fuentes.

Shapiro sharply criticized Carlson for interviewing the outspoken antisemite on his podcast, calling it “an act of moral imbecility.”

The Jewish podcaster, attacking Carlson for a second time within days, said the former Fox News host should never have given publicity to Fuentes, whom he called “a Hitler apologist, Nazi-loving, anti-American piece of refuse.”

Kirk had “despised” Fuentes, Shapiro added. “He knew that Nick Fuentes is an evil troll and that building him up is an act of moral imbecility, and that is precisely what Tucker Carlson did.”

Shapiro also hit out at Carlson and other leaders within the conservative movement, including broadcaster Megyn Kelly, over what he said was their failure to call out figures such as Candace Owens, who often spreads conspiracy theories, many of them antisemitic.

Owens has alleged without evidence that Israeli spies were involved in Kirk’s death and that he was betrayed by people close to him. Authorities say his killer acted alone.

Owens, whose YouTube channel has 5.7 million subscribers, is also involved in a legal fight with French President Emmanuel Macron over her claims his wife Brigitte is actually a man.

“The conservative movement is also in danger from charlatans who claim to speak in the name of principle but actually traffic in conspiracism and dishonesty,” Shapiro said. “Those of us with a microphone have a moral obligation to call that out by name.”

Owens responded a day later, writing on X that “Every time Ben speaks I feel more certain Israel is involved in [Kirk’s killing].”

“Ben only cares about Israel’s interests. So Israel is involved,” Owens claimed.

After months of pressure, the DOJ released only a partial set of Epstein files even though more than 300,000 pages exist and many are still being withheld.

This feels like controlled transparency, not truth. They dump a chunk, promise the rest later, and hope the public gets tired before the names that really matter show up.
