The next signs of the nation’s political divide might be jingling in your pocket next year.

The administration plans to issue a $1 coin with President Donald Trump’s likeness on it next year, despite a century-old precedent of not honoring sitting, or even living former, presidents on coins.

Instead of quarters honoring the abolition of slavery, granting women the right to vote and the Civil Rights movement, the Treasury will instead issue historical quarters featuring white men from the 18th and 19th centuries who were already well represented on currency and in historical tributes.

The new coins, coming after the administration stopped issuing new pennies earlier this year, underscore Trump’s drive to put his own stamp on the presidency far beyond the confines of the White House – whether it’s by putting his own face and name on US institutions or by pulling back on diversity efforts to reframe the story of America itself.

The US Mint on Thursday released the final coin designs for historical quarters celebrating the country’s 250th birthday next year. Rather than the fight against slavery or giving women the vote, the designs primarily honored a more homogeneous view of US history: George Washington for the Revolutionary War, Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence, James Madison and the Constitution, Abraham Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, as well as pilgrims to celebrate the Mayflower Compact.

“The designs on these historic coins depict the story of America’s journey toward a ‘more perfect union,’ and celebrate America’s defining ideals of liberty,” said Kristie McNally, the acting director of the Mint, in a statement.

Alaska Plots AI-Driven Digital Identity, Payments, and Biometric Data System that May Deny Access

Alaska redesigning its myAlaska digital ID system that would weave “Agentic Artificial Intelligence” that can read documents and fill out forms in addition to making digital payments on behalf of residents who interact with it. A system that can act “on behalf” of a person is also capable of observing and predicting their decisions.

Biometric authentication, including facial and fingerprint verification, are planned. Alaska’s move is part of a broader US trend toward national digital identity frameworks that are likely to evolve into a permanent, cross-agency tracking infrastructure.

In the future, identity verification might become routine for accessing even basic online platforms. Once digital identity becomes the default mechanism for accessing financial systems, healthcare, or even social media, “consent” is all but a formality. People who refuse may be denied access, similar to China’s social credit score system that has denied people the ability to work, travel and rent a home, and has debanked individuals.

Australia’s Social Media Ban for Those Under 16 Is Structured Like a Global Intelligence Op

A law was implemented on December 10, 2025, requiring all Australian social media users to prove their age on websites and apps including Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube. Users under the age of 16 are banned from accessing the sites/apps. Platforms are verifying users’ ages with official documents or by using AI systems that estimate a user’s age by scanning their face on camera, which is an obvious violation of privacy. Australia’s policy sets a benchmark for other governments considering teen social media bans, including Denmark, Norway, France, Spain, Malaysia and New Zealand.

Compliance will be a problem due to Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Ultimately, the goal is a digital ID. When they say it’s for the children, it’s never for the children.
