Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country would still be interested in a deal to share mineral rights with the United States — after leaving the White House without signing an agreement following an explosive blowup with President Trump in the Oval Office Friday.

Trump has demanded a share of Ukraine’s rich mineral deposits, as recompense for the more than $175 billion the United States has given to the country in military and civilian aid since the 2022 Russian invasion.

“We are ready to sign the minerals agreement, and it will be the first step toward security guarantees,” Zelensky said in a lengthy statement to X Saturday morning. “But it’s not enough, and we need more than just that. A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine. We’ve been fighting for three years, and Ukrainian people need to know that America is on our side.”

EU wants another year of war – Rubio

The US is determined to seize even the slightest opportunity to end the Ukraine conflict, the secretary of state has said

Some EU countries would favor the conflict between Russia and Ukraine dragging on longer with the idea of weakening Moscow, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has charged, stressing that Washington’s goal is to end the hostilities.

Rubio's comments came after a heated meeting between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky on Friday, which triggered accusations from American officials that the Ukrainian leader showed “disrespect” and ingratitude towards the US.

In an interview with CNN on Friday, Rubio emphasized that Washington is seeking peace for Ukraine, adding that if there’s even a 1% chance of that happening, it “needs to be explored.” He also suggested that some of his EU counterparts are not exactly on board with this approach.

He cited an unnamed European foreign minister as saying that theEU’s plan is to allow “the war go… on for another year and at that point Russia will feel so weakened that they’ll beg for peace.” Rubio criticized this approach, stating, “That’s another year of killing, another year of dying, another year of destruction, and by the way, not a very realistic plan in my point of view.”

Rubio has also called on Zelensky to apologize for what he called an “antagonistic” approachduring the meeting, rebuking him for his stance on an agreement granting the US rights to Ukraine’s natural resources, which was set to be signed at the White House but ended up in limbo due to the spat that ensued.

While Zelensky – who urged the US to continue military support for Ukraine while warning that the failure to do so would backfire – was heavily criticized by Trump administration officials and Republicans,many EU leaders rallied to his support.

Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the EU Commission, praised Zelensky’s “dignity” and reassured him that he is “never alone.” Friedrich Merz, Germany’s presumed future chancellor, said that “we must never confuse aggressor and victim in this terrible war.”

Meanwhile, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s top diplomat, went even further, issuing a not-so-veiled rebuke to Trump. “We stand by Ukraine. We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the aggressor…Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”

Whereas Russia has praised the Trump administration for its willingness to find ways to resolve the Ukraine conflict, including examining its root causes, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has denounced the EU for what he described as a desire to further escalate the hostilities.

TOP SECRET Documents circulating on the website 4chan, say that Israel will conduct a large scale military "pre-emptive" attack against Iran nuclear sites "as early as" this week.

Musk tips Vance to become US president

The vice president’s policy stance is aligned with the tech mogul’s views on key issues, including free speech and Ukraine aid

Tech billionaire and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Elon Musk has called US Vice President J.D. Vance “our future President,” fueling speculation about Vance’s political ambitions.

Musk’s remarks followed a post on X addressing the tense exchange between Vance and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over free speech policies during an Oval Office meeting on Thursday.

As Starmer met with President Donald Trump and administration officials at the White House, Vance defended his stance on digital censorship, echoing comments he made during last month’s Munich Security Conference.

Dramatic drone footage showed the moment a senior Al-Qaeda leader was taken out in a U.S. airstrike.

Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay, the senior military leader of the terrorist group Hurras al-Din (HaD) - an Al-Qaeda affiliate - was killed in an airstrike in Northwest Syria on February 23 by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces.

CENTCOM released the heart-stopping video on Saturday morning that depicted the airstrike hitting the car with the Turkish national inside.

'The airstrike is part of CENTCOM's ongoing commitment, along with partners in the region, to disrupt and degrade efforts by terrorists to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians and military personnel from the U.S., our allies, and our partners throughout the region and beyond,' the agency said in a post on X.

Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, said: 'As we have in the past, we will continue to relentlessly pursue these terrorists in order to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region and beyond.'

This is the third US airstrike against Hurras Al-Din in recent weeks, as CENTCOM forces killed Wasim Tahsin Bayraqdar, a senior leader, on February 21.

Muhammad Salah al-Zabir, another senior operative with the al-Qaeda affiliate, was killed in a January 30 airstrike.

CENTCOM released an image of the car Bayraqdar was traveling in at the time, as a gaping hole was left in its windshield.

He was killed while traveling on a highway near the village of Batabo in northwest Syria.

Bayraqdar was the brother of Syrian minister Samer Bayraqdar, The New Arab reported.

President Donald Trump celebrated the airstrike and the soldiers who executed the mission with a post to Truth Social.

'US forces conducted a precision airstrike against a member of al-Qaeda in Syria this weekend. The terrorist leader was working with al-Qaeda across the region,' he wrote.

'Congratulations to CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla, and the US warfighters who dealt Justice to another Jihadi threatening America and our allies and partners.'

Hurras al-Din was founded in February 2018, according to US-based intelligence agency SITE. The U.S. designated it a terrorist organization in 2019.

The group had been fighting with Syrian rebels in an attempt to topple Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The group dissolved in January and only then did they confirm that they were affiliated with al-Qaeda.

The US government offers financial rewards for information leading to the capture of its members.

CENTCOM was established in 1983, and 'covers the central area of the globe located between the European, Africa and Indo-Pacific Commands.'

Thoroughly thrashed by Trump and Vance, the Ukrainian leader faces a bleak future

“A grandiose failure” – take it from the best Ukrainian news site. That’s how Strana.ua has summed up the visit of Vladimir Zelensky, past-best-by-date leader in embattled Kiev, to Washington.

And no one who watched the no-holds-barred shouting match between Zelensky, on one side, and US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, on the other, can disagree. Indeed, no one is even trying to disagree: Independent of political bias, there is unanimity in Western mainstream media that this was a historic catastrophe for Zelensky and his version of Ukraine.

“A disaster” and “bitter chaos” (The Economist); a “meltdown” that “could not have gone worse” (Financial Times); a “historic escalation” (Spiegel); a “disaster for Ukraine” and a “spectacular confrontation” (Le Monde); an “upbraiding” and “debacle” for Zelensky (New York Times) and so on and so forth… You get the gist.

And please don’t blame me for how boring a review of Western mainstream media is; it’s not my fault that the vaunted press of the self-appointed “free world” and “garden” of “values” offers less diversity of views than the Soviet media circa 1986.

The basic idea is very basic indeed: “This was awful because poor Zelensky got bullied.” Some especially eager information war cadres are already fingering J.D. Vance as the one to blame. The Economist, for instance, simply “knows” that the US vice president set up the Ukrainian leader. But then, the same Economist also helped spread the moronic lie that Russia blew up its own Nord Stream pipelines.

Intriguingly, Ukraine’s Strana.ua, already mentioned above, sees things very differently. Its take is that “Zelensky himself provoked the scandal by his rudeness” toward both Vance and Trump. The latter, these Ukrainian observers who know their own vain and erratic leader all too well think, were still holding back, staying “quite calm and respectful” toward Zelensky.

For what it’s worth, my personal impression is that Zelensky did provoke the fight; that Vance and Trump treated him harshly and humiliatingly in return; and that Kiev’s prima-donna-in-chief deserved every last bit of it – and then some. Yes, after more than half a decade of Western leaders and mainstream media first building an insane personality cult around him and then babying and coddling him, it was a relief to see him talked to in earnest. And yes, it was glorious.

The White House meeting with Donald Trump was “a setup” to discredit and remove the Ukrainian leader, the former US Marine Corps intelligence officer has told RT

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s presidency is over, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter has told RT. Zelensky’s five-year term in office concluded in May 2024, but he has refused to hold new elections, citing martial law. According to Ritter, Washington is “fed up” with Zelensky, who US President Donald Trump recently labeled a “dictator without elections,” and is moving to unseat him.

Ritter’s words come on the heels of a meeting in the White House between Zelensky, Trump, and US Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday, in which a heated exchange took place after Trump told the Ukrainian leader that he would have to negotiate peace with Russia. Zelensky argued that Moscow cannot be trusted and insisted that the US continue supporting Kiev. Trump said Zelensky is “in no position to dictate” to the US, accusing him of being ungrateful for America’s substantial aid and questioning his willingness to bring about an end to the conflict with Russia.

According to Ritter, the meeting was a “setup” to discredit Zelensky and “confront him with the inconsistencies of his position.”

“Zelensky is not a democratically elected president… This was a deliberate setup by the president of the US. The Trump administration is fed up with Zelensky,” he said, arguing that he brought it upon himself by openly antagonizing Trump.

According to Ritter, the relationship between Trump and Zelensky is now “fundamentally broken.” However, unlike Ukraine, he said, Russia has never “lost the discipline” in contacts with the US and disrupted peace efforts, despite “some fundamental disagreements” on how to resolve the conflict.

“Zelensky was the greatest impediment to the US and Russia to achieve a peace deal… He had to be removed, and now he has been removed,” Ritter explained. He went on to say that while Zelensky’s removal may be “the beginning of the political collapse of Ukraine,” it might not necessarily be a bad thing in terms of peace because “the war is all but over at this point.”

Zelensky has so far dismissed calls to step down. At least seven injured after drone attack on medical facility in Kharkiv

At least seven people have been injured in a Russian overnight drone attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv region, medical officials said on Saturday.

The attack damaged a medical facility, residential buildings, shops and other civilian infrastructure facilities.

Rescuers and volunteers worked to clear debris after the assault. Local authorities report that one of the drones hit a three-story medical facility, causing a fire on the roof.

Rescuers evacuated at least 64 people from the building, including 56 patients and a child, officials said.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reports that two six-year-old children were among the wounded.

Regional governors reported further Russian attacks in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Sumy, Odesa, Cherniv, Cherkasy and Kyiv, according to Ukrainian media.

154 Shahed-type drones were launched against Ukraine overnight, Ukraine's Air Force said, with 103 reportedly being shot down and 51 lost without causing damage.

The on-the-ground attacks come as Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy travels to the United Kingdom for talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for talks ahead of a crisis summit of European leaders on Sunday.

Stunned European leaders reiterated their support Friday for Ukraine while in the war-torn country residents reacted with dread after President Donald Trump dramatically rebuked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a shorter-than-anticipated White House visit.

What was expected to be a cordial sit-down meeting among Zelensky, Trump and Vice President JD Vance – and a prelude to a money deal to extract rare earth minerals in Ukraine – turned into a remarkable shouting match over continued U.S. support in the country’s three-year-old war with Russia

Trump repeatedly berated the Ukrainian leader as “not ready for peace,” for having “disrespected” the United States and for “gambling with World War III.”

Vance chided Zelensky for not being thankful enough.

“Have you said, ‘thank you’ once this entire meeting?” he asked.

The press conference scheduled to take place after the meeting was hastily cancelled and Zelensky, after an interview on the Fox News Channel, headed home, posting on social media, “Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit.”

Such a confrontational public meeting is essentially unheard of in diplomatic circles, in fact televised appearances are almost always pre-negotiated and highly choreographed (in fact, Vance accused Zelensky of using the forum to sway public opinion.)

“It’s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office to try to litigate this in front of the American media,” the vice president said.

The events were widely applauded by Trump’s backers (after the meeting, the White House issued a press release with more than 50 statements of support from top GOP figures).

But in Europe, most leaders took the opposite stance, expressing almost unanimous support for Zelensky and Ukraine – though it remains far from clear whether those statements will translate into enough material support for Ukraine to continue its war with Russia if the U.S. completely pulls its financial and military aid.

In France, President Emmanuel Macron praised the West’s decision to help Ukraine at the start of the war in 2022.

“We were right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago,” wrote Macron, who was in Washington to meet with Trump earlier in the week. “By ‘we’ I mean the Americans, the Europeans, the Canadians, the Japanese and many others.”

Outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz – whose party was soundly defeated in elections last Sunday – said “Ukraine can rely on Germany, and on Europe.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (“You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy”), Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez (“Ukraine, Spain stands with you”), and Poland’s Donald Tusk (“Dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone”) added their voices to the chorus.

In the hours following Zelensky’s “thank you” message made upon exiting the White House, he retweeted some three dozen statements of solidarity from world leaders, each one with the statement, “Thank you for your support.”

Noticeably absent from the list of leaders publicly stating support as of late Friday were Italy’s Giorgia Meloni (both a strong supporter of the Ukrainian cause and a close ally to Trump), Hungary’s Viktor Orban (another key Trump ally in Europe and a supporter of Russia’s Vladimir Putin), and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer (who wrapped up what was by most accounts a constructive trip to Washington earlier on Friday).

In Ukraine, the news of their leader’s visit was met with disbelief and trepidation. Ukrainians, sparked by the knowledge that at best their cause will be badly crippled by the almost certain departure of the United States, the country that up to Friday had been their biggest supporter.

“I’m just crying because of what I hear,” one Ukrainian lawmaker reportedly said.

RSF drone attacks cause power outage in Sudan’s Merowe

Repeated drone attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted military and civilian infrastructure in Merowe, Northern State, early on Friday, causing a widespread power outage, the Sudanese army and eyewitnesses said.

The attacks, which have intensified this month, are part of a broader pattern of RSF drone strikes on military and civilian sites across several Sudanese states, including Gedaref in the east and Shendi and Atbara in the River Nile state.

The Sudanese army’s 19th Infantry Division said in a statement that RSF drones struck the division headquarters, Merowe International Airport, the Merowe Dam, and a local power station in “successive waves” early Friday.

The statement, seen by Sudan Tribune, said that the attacks aimed to destroy infrastructure.

Army anti-aircraft defences intercepted some of the drones, the military added.

Eyewitnesses in Merowe told Sudan Tribune the attacks began around 11 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Thursday and continued until about 5 a.m. on Friday.

They described the assault as the most intense of its kind, reporting loud explosions and heavy anti-aircraft fire.

Merowe, a strategically important city that hosts a major dam and the 19th Infantry Division headquarters, has been repeatedly targeted by RSF strikes, leading to previous infrastructure damage and power disruptions.

There was no immediate comment from the RSF.

The RSF seized control of the Merowe military airport briefly on April 15, 2023, the first day of the conflict, damaging aircraft and capturing some Egyptian Air Force personnel before the Sudanese army regained control.

The 22-month conflict between Sudan’s military and the RSF has created a humanitarian crisis, displacing more than 12 million people and leaving half the population, or 24.8 million, facing acute food insecurity.

AN ENNISKILLEN man has reported mysterious white and green lights which he saw dart over Enniskillen last week.

In recent years, the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) has captured the imagination of people worldwide, sparking intense debate and curiosity.

One particularly intriguing sighting occurred in Enniskillen recently, where a witness reported an unusual aerial event that has left him questioning what he saw.

The witness described a mysterious light darting across the sky at a unusually rapid pace.

“I looked away over in the distance because I saw this light. It wasn’t your normal light, it wasn’t a plane light, it was too bright and the next thing it shot across the sky at the speed of light,” he said.

“My friend has a drone and even the commercial one, the fastest it can fly is 100 miles per hour and I have gone through the video in slow frame. It shot right across and then it stopped and went up and then it went along.”

The local man said the light stopped and then a green light appeared beside it.

“No way was it a drone, the conditions weren’t good for it,” he said.

“It flew across far too fast, this green one came out of nowhere, it was just there and the white one was behind it, The green one disappeared behind the building and the white one flew off.”

The Enniskillen man explained that he has checked all the flight routes and there was no planes flying that route at that time.

“I sat down on Sunday and I couldn’t work out what it was and even the colour green, I have never seen that colour before,” he said.

“I thought, this is really odd and the speed it was flying, nothing could cover ground in that time.

“It was just odd and I am wondering if anyone else had seen it.”

The ‘Herald asked the man if he thought it could have been extraterrestrial life.

“I am an ex-military man and I was travelling down to Wales to do a course in the 80s and I saw something that the two guys in the car with me also saw but didn’t admit,” he explained.

“It was a big black triangle over in the distance. I could see the shape of it because I was going down slow. There was no noise, it was a starlit night and the stars were getting blacked out.

This thing was massive. I wouldn’t say I am a believer, but there is strange things going on out there.”
