Chief Justice Roberts temporarilystopped Judge Amir Ali’s midnight deadline and halted his order forcing the Trump Admin to pay $2 billion in foreign contracts.

Biden-appointed Judge Amir Ali on Tuesday blasted DOJ lawyers over USAID disbursement and ordered the Trump Administration to pay the foreign contracts by 11:59 pm on Wednesday evening.

The Supreme Court immediately responded to Trump’s emergency request to vacate Judge Amir Ali’s order.

“IT IS ORDERED that the February 25, 2025 orders of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, case Nos. 1:25-cv-00400 and 1:25-cv-00402,are hereby stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the Court. It is further ordered that any response to the application be filed on or before Friday, February 28, 2025, by 12 p.m. (EST)” Chief Justice Roberts wrote in a brief order.

The Trump Administration on Wednesday evening filed an emergency appeal asking the Supreme Court to intervene after a Biden-appointed judge ordered the Admin to pay $2 billion in foreign contracts by midnight tonight.

“Neither the original TRO nor the district court’s subsequent clarifications in any way suggested that the government must pay particular invoices on particular dates,” the Acting Solicitor General wrote in the government’s application to vacate the judge’s order.

“The court’s 11:59 p.m. 30-some-hour deadline thus moved all the goalposts. It is not tailored to any actual payment deadlines associated with respondents’ invoices or drawn-down requests, or anyone else’s.And it has thrown what should be an orderly review by the government into chaos,” the DOJ argued.

The DOJ rightly argued that the district court “lacked any jurisdiction even to issue this order dictating contractual paymentsby a date certain to remedy purported contractual breaches.”

Trump’s DOJ on Wednesday morning asked the Court to grant an immediate administrative stay of the lower court’s order and a stay pending appeal.

DOJ lawyers blasted the Biden appointed judge for his “intrusive and profoundly erroneous” order.

The appeals court denied Trump’s motion to dismiss the judge’s order.

US Supreme Court BLOCKS Lower Court Order in Foreign Aid Distribution Case

The United States Supreme Court has Paused a lower Court's ORDER, which demanded President Trump release Foreign Aid money or grants, presently paused for 90 days.

Chief Justice John Roberts "Paused" the lower court order, which ORDERED the Trump Administration release the foreign aid money by 11:59 PM eastern US time tonight.

Chief Justice Roberts gave the Plaintiff's in that case until Friday to explain to the Supreme Court why the lower Court's Order should go through.

An interesting aspect of this whole mess is that the lower court issued the Order with the 11:59 PM deadline tonight because the Plaintiff's in the case will allegedly suffer "irreparable Harm" if the money was not released immediately. Now, those same Plaintiff have to wait at least two more days AND explain to the Supreme Court why they should get the money.

Now we all get to see if the so-called "Irreparable harm" actually takes place, or if it was all just posturing.

Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world. About fifteen hours before I went into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Now, before you worry, my doctor says it’s Stage 0 and is confident that it almost certainly hasn’t spread. Or, as I’ve explained to the few people I’ve managed to tell about it so far: Don’t freak out. It’s just, like, a LITTLE bit of cancer.

Still, it was not a chill day. I mean, to say the least! I woke up more-than-a-week-past-due pregnant, completely consumed by doing everything I could to get the baby out. By the middle of the afternoon, I was waddling around from appointment to appointment, talking about how to get my cancer out. I sat and listened as they told me that the best course of action would likely be a double mastectomy as soon as possible. I asked all the questions I could, including if I could get a copy of my tumor ultrasound to put on the fridge next to the ultrasound of my baby. Finally, by the middle of the night, I was crawling around on the floor of my apartment in spontaneous labor, before heading to the hospital to meet my baby, whom I’d learn at the time of birth was a son.

The good news? People who work at hospitals make excellent audiences for dark humor -- and, as someone whose first book was about the power of jokes to get through traumatic situations, there was really no better place for me to be. Just minutes after my boy was born, I was talking with the nurses about what a birth announcement in my situation might look like.

Should I go with “Mom and baby are doing well, except maybe for mom’s cancer, and then maybe the baby after breastfeeding is stunted by her double mastectomy,” and then shut off my phone for a week?

Anyway! These next three months of maternity leave are going to look a lot different than I’d anticipated, and I’m still getting used to my new reality. Still, as I navigate new motherhood (and new cancer) I’m learning to celebrate everything I can. I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom. I mean, I know I’m biased, but the little dude absolutely rules -- and not just because he might have saved my life.

Thank you all for your support, laughter, and love as I embrace this wildly unexpected chapter. Here’s to resilience, to miracles in the midst of chaos, and to finding humor and hope even on the toughest days.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday temporarily blocked a judge's order giving the Trump administration an 11:59 deadline to release billions of dollars in U.S. foreign aid.

Chief Justice John Roberts said the order issued by U.S. District Judge Amir H. Ali will remain on hold until the high court has a chance to weigh in more fully.

Ali had ordered the federal government to comply with his decision temporarily blocking a freeze on foreign aid, ruling in a lawsuit filed by nonprofit groups and businesses. An appellate panel refused the administration's request to intervene.

The president says staff at the agency included ‘a lot of people that weren’t doing their job.’
