Rahimi and the Second Amendment: How The Supreme Court Swatted Down Hunter Biden’s Hail Mary Pass

Below is my column on Fox.com on the ruling in United States v. Rahimi and its implications for the Hunter Biden appeal. The hope for a final pass to the Court ended with an 8-1 decision against the challenge to the federal gun law.

Here is the column:

On Friday, Hunter Biden may have lost the greatest Hail Mary pass in history.When Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach threw his famous winning touchdown pass to wide receiver Drew Pearson in 1975, he later explained “I closed my eyes and said a Hail Mary.” For Hunter, the pass to the Supreme Court roughly 50 years later just missed in equally spectacular fashion.

Hunter and his legal team were counting on the Court striking down the federal gun law at issue in the case of United States v. Rahimi. Hunter was just convicted by a unanimous jury in Delaware for false statements on a gun form and possession of a firearm as a drug addict.He has been arguing against the position of his father’s administration and adopting the same argument of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in challenging the constitutionality of the law.

The Supreme Court just voted 8-1 that the law is indeed constitutional and that a court can temporarily deprive citizens of the right to possess weapons for the protection of others. The sole dissenter was Justice Clarence Thomas.

The case involved Zackey Rahimi, a drug dealer who was under a restraining order after a 2019 argument with his girlfriend (called C.M. in the opinion) who had a child with him. Rahimi allegedly knocked C.M. down, dragged her to a car, and then (as C.M. fled) shot at either C.M. or a bystander. He was also accused of threatening to shoot her if she went to the cops.

The Texas trial court found that Rahimi was not only engaged in “family violence” but that additional violence was “likely to occur again in the future.”

Under the protective order, Rahimi’s gun license was suspended for two years and he was barred from contacting C.M. for that period. Under the order, his gun rights would be suspended for either one or two years after his release date, depending on any imprisonment.

However, Rahimi was not done yet. He later violated the order by approaching C. M. and communicated with her by social media. Months later, Rahimi threatened a different woman with a gun and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Finally, a police officer later identified him as the suspect in a spate of at least five additional shootings.

That was not exactly a poster child for lawful gun owners and the Court failed to see the suspension of his gun rights as an unconstitutional deprivation.

Since the Court first recognized the Second Amendment as an individual right in District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), it has stated that this is not an absolute right. There are no truly absolute rights in the Constitution.

What creates Saturn's colors? The featured picture of Saturn only slightly exaggerates what a human would see if hovering close to the giant ringed world. The image was taken in 2005 by the robot Cassini spacecraft that orbited Saturn from 2004 to 2017. Here Saturn's majestic rings appear directly only as a curved line, appearing brown, in part from its infrared glow. The rings best show their complex structure in the dark shadows they create across the upper part of the planet. The northern hemisphere of Saturn can appear partly blue for the same reason that Earth's skies can appear blue molecules in the cloudless portions of both planet's atmospheres are better at scattering blue light than red. When looking deep into Saturn's clouds, however, the natural gold hue of Saturn's clouds becomes dominant. It is not known why southern Saturn does not show the same blue hue one hypothesis holds that clouds are higher there. It is also not known why some of Saturn's clouds are colored gold.

The White House is reportedly becoming increasingly concerned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could use his upcoming speech in the US Congress to publicly criticize President Joe Biden and his administration’s response to Israel’s war in Gaza.

Netanyahu is set to address a joint session of Congress next month, and “no one knows what he’s going to say,” an unnamed US official told Politico on Saturday.

Earlier this week, the Israeli leader posted a video accusing Washington of “withholding weapons and ammunition to Israel” for several months, calling it “inconceivable.” Netanyahu defended his public criticism as “absolutely necessary after months of quiet conversation that did not solve the problem,” in an interview published on Friday.

The claim “was not helpful at all,” and Netanyahu “could make it far worse up there in front of Congress,” another senior official reportedly told the outlet. Politico added that the speech could create a “diplomatically complicated and politically dicey spectacle for a president running for reelection.”

The White House is concerned that Netanyahu’s rhetoric is deepening the rift between the two allies, according to Axios. While US officials have publicly stated that they “do not know what [Netanyahu] is talking about,” privately, Biden’s team is reportedly “angry and shocked” at the prime minister’s “ingratitude,” with some officials describing him as “unhinged.”

The US paused the delivery of 3,500 bombs to Israel in early May amid calls for it to scale back its assault on the densely-populated city of Rafah in southern Gaza. However, despite Biden’s public warnings he would halt arms shipments, the US reportedly kept the majority of other weapons and ammunition flowing. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the US proceeded with a transfer of $1 billion worth of arms for Israel in May, the same month it stopped the delivery of bombs.

Israel declared war on Hamas after militants killed around 1,200 people and took more than 200 hostages in a surprise attack on October 7. More than 37,000 Palestinians have been killed in the months of fighting that followed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Last week, CBS News reported that Washington was growing “increasingly concerned” over the possibility of the Israel-Hamas war spiraling into a larger Middle East conflict involving Hezbollah and potentially American troops.

In July 2023, the US announced that it would provide Ukraine with cluster munitions. The move sparked outrage in Moscow. These weapons scatter dozens of smaller bombs when detonated. The bomblets, usually spread over large areas, can remain unexploded for years and even decades, posing particularly high risks to densely populated areas.

The weapons are banned in more than 100 countries, including the UK, France, and Germany. However, neither the US, Ukraine, nor Russia signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions. Nevertheless, Moscow vowed not to use them in the conflict against Kiev in 2023.

Ukraine has previously targeted Crimea with US-made ATACMS missiles. In late May, ten ATACMS were shot down as they were targeting the strategic Crimean Bridge, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said at the time.

US media outlets reported that month that Washington had given the green light for the use of US-supplied weapons in Ukraine’s cross-border attacks into Russian territory from the northeastern Kharkov Region. Later, the Pentagon said Kiev could do so beyond Kharkov Region as well.

AP reported, citing sources, that the administration of US President Joe Biden still does not allow Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 300km to strike deep inside Russia. President Vladimir Putin warned that the use of Western weapons in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory is “close to aggression.”

NASA faces $80,000 claim after space debris hit family home

An American family is claiming more than $80,000 from NASA after a small piece of debris fell from space and smashed through the roof of their Florida home, a law firm said Friday.

The problem of space trash has risen in tandem with increased spatial traffic, and NASA's response could set a precedent for how future claims are handled, law firm Cranfill Sumner said in a statement.

On March 8, an object weighing just 700 grams hit Alejandro Otero's home in Naples, Florida, making a hole in the roof.

NASA later confirmed it was part of a cargo pallet of used batteries that was released from the International Space Station as waste in 2021.

Instead of fully disintegrating before falling to Earth, a section remained intact when it reentered the atmosphere, the US space agency said.

Otero's son was at the house at the moment of impact, according to the law firm, which said that NASA has six months to respond to its claim.

"My clients are seeking adequate compensation to account for the stress and impact that this event had on their lives," said lawyer Mica Nguyen Worthy.

"They are grateful that no one sustained physical injuries from this incident, but a 'near miss' situation such as this could have been catastrophic.

"There could have been serious injury or a fatality."

NASA did not immediately respond to AFP's request for a comment.

On the doors and in the pubs,people in the area seem optimistic about Farage’s election chances but are broadly lethargic about their nation’s politics in general. This creates a dangerous situation for Farage’s campaign, as his likeliest voters are the least likely to vote.

The apparatus around him is small, and there are just 11 days left until Britain heads to the polls.

Ever the retail politicians, Farage’s message is focused on causing an upset to the country’s political class, which electing him as a Member of Parliament would certainly inflict.

But despite his party returning a number of massive polling results,their expected seat-count in the parliament of 650 members remains sub-10 due to how thinly the Reform vote is split across the UK.

And Farage himself is spread thinner than ever, with a small team of aides and national travel schedule to contend with, it is not yet a certainty that he will be chosen as Clacton’s Member of Parliament. They will need the winds at their back between now and July 4th.

I know a 65 year old man who was in an accident and hasn't worked in a longtime because he can't walk and one arm is partially disabled but I always see him trying to get around and participate in life as much as he can and I greatly respect him for his efforts.

The other day he explained to me that he was on SSI Disability and it is really hard to makes ends meet with the Bidenomics price increases but he manages to keep going on only $943 dollars a month for all his expenses.

The maximum amount of SSI Disability payments for a disabled elderly man only being $943 a month to me makes no sense at all it's cruelty no matter how you slice it.

I decided to give him $300 a month to help him out and also looked into other benefits he might be eligible for every month.

After contacting the Social Security office I was told if I give him $300 a month then $300 a month will be deducted from his SSI monthly payment and I said how can get he ahead when he cannot have more than $943 a month and no more than $2,000 in total savings or he will be kicked off the program.

Where I live you can't even rent a closet for $943 a month so I'm wondering why are the the politicians in Washington DC doing this to America's elderly that are unfortunately disabled?

All that fucken money going to the Ukraine and them asshole politicians in Washington DC can't even give America's disabled elderly a couple more hundred dollars at least…

China launches Sino-French astrophysics satellite, debris falls over populated area

A Chinese launch of the joint Sino-French SVOM mission to study Gamma-ray bursts early Saturday saw toxic rocket debris fall over a populated area.

A Long March 2C rocket lifted off from Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 3:00 a.m. Eastern (0700 UTC) June 22, sending the Space Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM) mission satellite into orbit.

The launch was declared successful by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) a short time after liftoff.

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are violent electromagnetic explosions which can release as much energy in a few seconds as the Sun will emit over its entire 10-billion-year lifetime.

SVOM is a collaboration between the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and France’s Centre national d’études spatiales (CNES).

The mission will look for high-energy electromagnetic radiation from these events in the X-ray and gamma-ray ranges using two French and two Chinese-developed science payloads.

These include the Microchannel X-ray Telescope (MXT), a narrow-field-optimized lobster eye X-ray focusing telescope.

Studying GRBs, thought to be caused by the death of massive stars or collisions between stars, could provide answers to key questions in astrophysics.

This includes the death of stars and the creation of black holes. However the launch of SVOM also created an explosion of its own closer to home.

A video posted on Chinese social media site Sina Weibo appears to show a rocket booster falling on a populated area with people running for cover.

The booster fell to Earth near Guiding County, Qiandongnan Prefecture in Guizhou province, according to another post.

I want to tell you guys a HORROR story about Social Security SSI Disability Benefits.

I know a 65 year old man who was in an accident and hasn't worked in a longtime because he can't walk and one arm is partially disabled but I always see him trying to get around and participate in life as much as he can and I greatly respect him for his efforts.

The other day he explained to me that he was on SSI Disability and it is really hard to makes ends meet with the Bidenomics price increases but he manages to keep going on only $943 dollars a month for all his expenses.

The maximum amount of SSI Disability payments for a disabled elderly man only being $943 a month to me makes no sense at all it's cruelty no matter how you slice it.

I decided to give him $300 a month to help him out and also looked into other benefits he might be eligible for every month.

After contacting the Social Security office I was told if I give him $300 a month then $300 a month will be deducted from his SSI monthly payment and I said how can get he ahead when he cannot have more than $943 a month and no more than $2,000 in total savings or he will be kicked off the program.

Where I live you can't even rent a closet for $943 a month so I'm wondering why are the the politicians in Washington DC doing this to America's elderly that are unfortunately disabled?

All that fucken money going to the Ukraine and them asshole politicians in Washington DC can't even give America's disabled elderly a couple more hundred dollars at least…
