Puerto Rico’s elections commission said Tuesday that it’s reviewing its contract with a U.S. electronic voting company after hundreds of discrepancies were discovered following the island’s heated primaries.

The problem stemmed from a software issue that caused machines supplied by Dominion Voting Systems to incorrectly calculate vote totals, said Jessika Padilla Rivera, the commission’s interim president.

While no one is contesting the results from the June 2 primary that correctly identify the winners, machine-reported vote counts were lower than the paper ones in some cases, and some machines reversed certain totals or reported zero votes for some candidates.

“The concern is that we obviously have elections in November, and we must provide the (island) not only with the assurance that the machine produces a correct result, but also that the result it produces is the same one that is reported,” Padilla said.

More than 6,000 Dominion voting machines were used in Puerto Rico’s primaries, with the company stating that software issues stemmed from the digital files used to export results from the machines.

The contract between Dominion and the elections commission ends June 30.

José Varela, vice president of Puerto Rico’s House of Representatives, called for Padilla to appear at a public hearing Thursday to address the issues.

“We cannot allow the public’s confidence in the voting process to continue to be undermined as we approach the general elections,” he said.

The problems called to mind the island’s botched 2020 primaries, when a lack of ballots at some centers forced the government to reschedule voting in a first for the U.S. territory.

On June 2, Puerto Rico held primary elections to select gubernatorial candidates for the pro-statehood New Progressive Party and the Popular Democratic Party, which supports the island’s territorial status.

In a surprise upset, Jenniffer González, Puerto Rico’s congressional representative, beat Gov. Pedro Pierluisi in the primary held by the New Progressive Party. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico Rep. Jesús Manuel Ortiz defeated Sen. Juan Zaragoza in the primary held by their Popular Democratic Party.

Both parties reported hundreds of ballots showing inaccurate results, with the PNP reporting over 700 errors and the PPD pointing to some 350 discrepancies. These inaccuracies affected ballots for positions including governor, mayor and resident commissioner.

Israeli Army Caught Running Pedophile Ring Involving Thousands of Palestinian Kids - Media Blackout

According to investigators, thousands of children are routinely stripped naked, tortured and sodomized by Israeli soldiers in Sde Teiman, a makeshift concentration camp for Palestinians.

Hidden at the bottom of a recent New York Times report is the horrific account of systematic torture, sodomy and murder of innocent children taking place at a southern Israel military base.

Naturalnews.com reports: In an explanation of how interrogations are carried out there, one prisoner recounted a room the detainees referred to as the “disco room” on account of the loud music played there that keeps them from sleeping. He said that the high volume was so painful that it caused his ears to bleed; the Israeli military claims they didn’t want detainees to talk to each other easily prior to interrogation.

One detainee, law student Fadi Bakr, said he was looking for flour for his family when Israeli soldiers stripped him, took his phone and money, and beat and detained him. He described being brought into the interrogation room wearing nothing but a diaper and was repeatedly beaten when he maintained he was a civilian and could therefore not provide any information about the locations of hostages.

39-year-old senior nurse and detainee Younis Al-Hamlawi said that during his interrogation, a pair of Israeli soldiers was ordered to “lift him up and press his rectum against a metal stick that was fixed to the ground.” After around five seconds of penetration, he experienced “unbearable pain” and bleeding.

Other detainees described similar experiences in a UNRWA report, including a 41-year-old detainee who recounted being forced to “sit on something like a hot metal stick and it felt like fire,” while a different detainee died after an “electric stick” was placed in his anus.

Al-Hamlawi was also forced to sit in a chair that was wired with electricity, where he was subjected to frequent shocks that first caused him to urinate uncontrollably before rendering him unable to urinate for several days. He also had to wear a diaper to avoid soiling the floor. Bakr also had to sit in a chair wired with electricity, which caused him to pass out.

Detainees describe numerous abuses

Numerous other abuses were described by the eight former detainees who spoke with the publication, including being punched, kicked and beaten with rifle butts and batons. One was kneed in the chest hard enough to break his ribs. At least 35 detainees have died at the site or after being taken to civilian hospitals nearby. Although senior military doctors claim they have not seen any signs of torture, Israeli commanders confirmed that at least a dozen soldiers were released from their roles there, some of them because they used excessive force.

It is believed that around 4,000 detainees spent as much as three months at Sde Teiman, 70 percent of whom went on to prisons for further investigation. Around 1,200 were determined to be civilians and sent back to Gaza, but they did not receive any apologies or compensation.

One military doctor told the Times that some people seemed so unlikely to be combatants involved in the war that he was not sure why Israeli soldiers had even brought them there in the first place. For example, one was severely obese, another was paraplegic, and yet another had been breathing through a tube inserted in his neck since he was a child.

“Why they brought him — I don’t know. They take everyone,” he said.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) has agreed to appear before the House Judiciary Committee onJuly 12, the day after former President Trump’s sentencing following his conviction in New York.

One of the top prosecutors in the case, Matthew Colangelo, will also appear before the panel. The hearing will be a major moment for the House GOP’s Oversight of those responsible for bringing charges against Trump.

Bragg’s appearance following the hush money trial makes him thefirst such prosecutor to appear before the panelafter others who have filed charges against Trump have largely rebuffed demands from Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), saying the invitations amount to inappropriate efforts to interfere in their ongoing investigations.

Bragg agreed to the invitation only after the conclusion of Trump’s trial, delaying his appearance by about a month as he said it would be improper to speak publicly on the case outside of a courtroom before a judge has fully weighed punishment for the former president.

“The Manhattan D.A.’s Office is proud to play a crucial role in upholding and enforcing the rule of law for the people of New York. It undermines the rule of law to spread dangerous misinformation, baseless claims, and conspiracy theories following the jury’s return of a full-count felony conviction in People v. Trump,” Bragg’s office said in a statement.

“Nonetheless, we respect our government institutions and plan to appear voluntarily before the subcommittee after sentencing.”

Colangelo’s appearance is also notable, as the House Judiciary Committee has demanded information about him from multiple entities, including the Justice Department. Colangelo, who worked as a prosecutor in New York, including on cases involving the Trump family, worked at the Justice Department before returning to New York to work for Bragg’s team. Colangelo gave the opening arguments during Trump’s trial.

Jordan plans to still hold a hearing on the case Thursday — the original date he asked for Bragg to appear — and it will include testimony from those not involved in the trial, such as Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R).The agreement for Bragg and Colangelo’s July testimony comes hours after theJustice Department told the committee it had done a “comprehensive” search of their records, failing to find any communications between the department and Bragg’s office.

The letter obtained by The Hill seeks to quash what Attorney General Merrick Garland has called a conspiracy theory floated by Republican lawmakers that federal prosecutors were in any way involved with Bragg’s decision to bring charges against Trump. “We found none,” Carlos Uriarte, the head of legislative affairs for the Justice Department, wrote of what resulted from their search.

“This is unsurprising. The District Attorney’s office is a separate entity from the Department. The Department does not supervise the work of the District Attorney’s office, does not approve its charging decisions, and does not try its cases. The Department has no control over the District Attorney, just as the District Attorney has no control over the Department. The Committee knows this.”

While Trump allies have complained both about the prosecutor and judge involved in his trial, it was a jury agreed to by both prosecutors and Trump’s legal team that found him guilty on every single one of the 34 counts brought by Bragg.

EXCLUSIVE: Findings from more than 100 pages of documents gleaned through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request revealed that the prosecutor in NY v. Trump spent $1 million to respond to congressional oversight of his prosecution at a time New York City officials were demanding across-the-board budget cuts.

Documents procured through litigation by the Oversight Project, a good-government transparency arm of the Heritage Foundation, showedManhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office sent an April 2023 interoffice memo announcing a $1 million appropriation for outside counsel.

According to the memo,the funds came from a 2019 settlement with a financial institution that was accused of illegally transacting with nations subject to U.S. sanctions.

"Due to this unanticipated need, $1,000,000 will be made available for this matter from the DANY Deficit Project under the UniCredit subfund," the memo read.

The document also referenced an attached "engagement letter" signed with the high-powered Los Angeles-based Gibson Dunn law firm, and the packet also included an approved waiver from the New York City Conflict of Interest Board to permit a Bragg counsel to participate in the case despite a familial connection to a Gibson Dunn attorney.

Another piece of the document tranche said Bragg indicated it would be in the best interests of the office to hire outside counsel to respond to congressional inquiry from Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and others at the time.

Of five law firms that were apparently solicited, only Gibson Dunn was immediately available, according to the findings.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has approved the use of funds received as part of the 2019 UniCredit settlement to be used toward retaining outside counsel tied to a congressional inquiry into the investigation and prosecution of a confidential investigation division case.

The email then references an attached engagement letter signed by Bragg with Gibson Dunn and documents referenced Bragg's office's awareness of the trio of House committees looking into his investigation of former President Trump.

On April 4, 2023, around the time of the actions indicated in the trove of documents, New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued a citywide directive to cut $1 billion over the following four years. New York did then and continues to face dueling crises of crime, slowing economic growth and a migrant influx.

All agencies were to enact plans to cut 4% from their budgets, according to a memo obtained by the New York Post at the time. By November, the budget cuts had affected school and library programs and somewhat lowered the rolls of the NYPD, according to the New York Times.

Thefindings of the FOIA request suggest Bragg should, instead of prosecuting Trump, be "arresting himself,"said attorney Mike Howell, the Oversight Project's executive director, in an interview with Fox News Digital.

"It speaks to the fact that Bragg had to go outside [the district attorney's office] for this sort of work; very similar to how he had to have [prosecutor Matthew] Colangelo come down from DOJ."

In an exchange with Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., during a House hearing last week, Attorney General Merrick Garland repeatedly denied he or the Justice Department dispatched Colangelo to New York or had anything to do with the latter taking a prominent role in Trump's prosecution.

Howell further criticized the timing of Bragg's $1 million allocation, saying it was done at a time when his city was "deteriorating into a third-world urban area."

"It shows the highest focus of this unique kind of ‘all-hands-on-deck’ approach as applied to President Trump, while they have just degeneracy, deviancy and crime in their streets," he said.

Howell said the documents his organization obtained are, however, only the first shoe likely to drop in the Oversight Project's focus on Bragg's office's behavior and that future FOIA hearings are on the docket in coming days and weeks.His one focus will be on alleged "voluminous communications" between Bragg's office and "Washington, D.C., political operatives"about which a hearing was held last Tuesday.

"You have [Adams] telling folks to cut back and focus on crime problems, and then you have a DA spending more and focusing on political persecution as New York City goes to hell,"he said.

The documents also depict an environment where the political left is expending much more resources to prosecute Trump than the right is to defend the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Howell said.

"I mean, they were willing to cut that check immediately to a high-priced law firm to dispense with the inquiries from Chairman Jordan, which they did. Chairman Jordan's office didn't really lay a glove on him."

However, as of Saturday, the Associated Press reported Bragg appeared to agree to testify before what the outlet predicted to be a "hostile" subcommittee hearing. The AP reported Jordan requested Bragg's presence at a June 13 hearing, but the prosecutor's office needed a new date and asked for more information on the "scope and purpose" of the hearing.

The outlet further predicted any hearing would take place beyond Trump's scheduled July sentencing.

One of Howell's hopesin his organization procuring the documents is that itwill lead Congress to double its efforts to fight ongoing "lawfare" on the left and offered one reported example that House Republicans could access "reserve funds" from the now-defunct House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack to appropriately resource such efforts.

Attorney Mike Davis, a former chief nominations counsel for Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who oversaw floor votes for such key nominations as Justice Brett Kavanaugh, called the findings a true "scandal."

"Instead of spending money fighting real crime in New York City, Alvin Bragg and Matthew Colangelo weaponized and politicized the DA's office to get Trump and line the pockets of their allies," said Davis, now president of the Article III Project, an organization coined from Article III of the Constitution that aims to forward originalism in its advice on federal judicial nominees.

Davis further criticized Bragg's office for hiring "one of the most expensive law firms in the world to fight a legitimate congressional subpoena."

Neither Bragg's office nor Gibson Dunn responded to requests for comment.

Arizona has a projected $1.4 billion budget deficit. Here's where lawmakers are considering cuts

Arizona lawmakers are considering across-the-board spending cuts to address a projected $1.4 billion state budget deficit.

According to leaked draft budget documents, the state faces an estimated $729 million shortfall this year and $690 million in the new fiscal year that begins on July 1.

The documents show the budget shrinking from $17.2 billion in 2024 to $16.1 billion in 2025, due to proposed cuts of various projects and scaling back funding for most state agencies.

The budget proposal cuts around $500 million in one-time spending, or money dedicated to individual projects. That includes many transportation projects, including $108 million set aside to widen Interstate 10, a project that would now be postponed to 2028.

Many of the individual projects facing cuts were those championed by individual lawmakers in last year’s spending plan, past during a projected budget surplus.

“There are individuals who are mourning certain items and that’s just to be expected, but the math has to work, so we have to cut somewhere and no one is going to love this at the end of the day, because it’s painful to cut,” House Speaker Ben Toma (R-Peoria) said.

But, Toma said, “the math has to add up. We have to have a structurally balanced budget.”

The budget documents also show around $300 million in ongoing budget cuts, or funding reductions to ongoing costs like salaries at state agencies. The budget plan includes a reduction in funding for nearly all state agencies by around 3.5% percent.

Failing Washington Post attempts to get Grayzone editor jailed with error-filled smear piece

Though The Washington Post was forced to retract the first sentence and central premise of its nothingburger ‘expose’ targeting The Grayzone, pro-Israel operatives are using the malicious hit piece to demand a federal investigation.

The secret is out. Starting in 2020, for a period of less than a year, and well before ever joining the staff of The Grayzone, journalist Wyatt Reed appeared multiple times on PressTV, an Iranian state-backed international news service. You may have noticed it from Wyatt’s regular postings at the time highlighting these videos, or the “correspondent @PressTV” description that featured in his Twitter bio at the time.

For the Washington Post’s so-called “disinformation threat” researcher, Joseph Menn, this became a vitally important fact to highlight on a full page of a legacy newspaper whose banner motto boldly declares, “Democracy dies in darkness.”

After sending Wyatt a series of aggressively worded emails implicitly threatening to have him criminally prosecuted, and demanding to speak with his lawyer, the Washington Post employee relied on a series of hacked documents to “expose” what Wyatt never attempted to conceal: while beginning his journalistic career, he appeared on the Iranian news outlet Press TV several dozen times.

Incidentally, during this time, Wyatt received payment from such nefarious foreign outlets as CBS Weekend News and CBS This Morning, which correctly credited him as a journalist when airing the footage he gathered reporting from the frontlines of BLM protests.

Since joining The Grayzone in June 2023, Wyatt has not accepted a penny from any government-backed outlet. In fact, The Grayzone imposes far stricter rules on its employees than The Washington Post, which appears to have no such prohibitions on its employees moonlighting for government backed think tanks.

However, the case remains: for a brief period of time, four years ago, he openly appeared in reports for an Iranian outlet which employs Americans to this day.

So why, four years after Wyatt’s last appearance on Press TV, is the Washington Post targeting him, and only him, and even suggesting he should be jailed, despite the fact that dozens of Americans have reported for this same network?

The motive behind this malicious attack is abundantly clear: Wyatt now works for The Grayzone, and The Grayzone’s factual reporting has infuriated boosters of the Ukraine proxy war and members of Israel’s international propaganda network.

That is why the Washington Post’s demonstrably Menn-dacious correspondent falsely stated in the opening line of his smear piece: “Recently unearthed documents reveal that leaders of an online news site aimed at Americans have received money from both Russian and Iranian government media outlets.”

That bogus and defamatory line has since been publicly retracted by the Washington Post, undercutting Menn’s apparent agenda, which was to falsely insinuate Russian and Iranian sponsorship of The Grayzone.

Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas out of Olympics after losing legal battle

The US swimmer Lia Thomas, who rose to global prominence after becoming the first transgender athlete to win a NCAA college title in March 2022, has lost a legal case against World Aquatics at the court of arbitration for sport – and with it any hopes of making next month’s Paris Olympics.

The 25-year-old also remains barred from swimming in the female category after failing to overturn rules introduced by swimming’s governing body in the summer of 2022, which prohibit anyone who has undergone “any part of male puberty” from the female category.

Thomas had argued that those rules should be declared “invalid and unlawful” as they were contrary to the Olympic charter and the World Aquatics constitution.

However, in a 24-page decision, the court concluded that Thomas was“simply not entitled to engage with eligibility to compete in WA competitions” as someone who was no longer a member of US swimming.

The news was welcomed by World Aquatics, who hailed it as “a major step forward in our efforts to protect women’s sport”.

“World Aquatics is dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes fairness, respect, and equal opportunities for athletes of all genders and we reaffirm this pledge,” it added.

World Aquatics introduced its new rules after Thomas beat Olympic silver medalist Emma Weyant by 1.75sec to win NCAA gold in the women’s 500-yard freestyle in 2022.

In a scientific document that informed its decision, it said swimmers such as Thomas retained significant physical advantages – in endurance, power, speed, strength and lung size– from undergoing male puberty, even after reducing their testosterone levels through medication.

While it is understood that World Aquatics was prepared to argue the merits of the scientific evidence at Cas, the hearing solely focused on whether Thomas, who is no longer a member of US swimming, was allowed to challenge its rules.

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – Fort Wainwright celebrated the onset of construction of a 72,500 sq. ft. fieldhouse with a groundbreaking ceremony June 11.

“The new fieldhouse expands the functionality of the Fryar Fitness Complex and will address critical needs by providing a state-of-the-art, purpose-built space designed to support year-round fitness and recreational activities,” said Col. Hide and seek: Despite sharper eyes on the heavens, sneaky sats can still find shadows

WASHINGTON — China’s experimental spaceplane Shenlong, launched to low Earth orbit (LEO) on its third mission in December, appears to have released a companion craft while in orbit — but despite close scrutiny by US Space Command and independent space watchers, it remains unclear exactly when that happened.

Astronomer Jonathan McDowell first noticed the event following the object’s listing May 25 by SPACECOM in its public database. The problem, as space watcher Bob Christy pointed out in his May 26 Orbital Focus column on X (formerly Twitter), is that if the companion had been keeping close enough to Shenlong for a few days, terrestrial radar and telescopes used to monitor the heavens would struggle to discriminate between the two. The smaller, dimmer companion simply would have been washed out by the electromagnetic signature of the larger spaceplane.

Put another way: a Chinese space vehicle released a smaller space vehicle, and no one, at least publicly, knows when or where, nor what the smaller vehicle may have done between when it was launched and when it was found. And if you are in charge of defending America’s systems in orbit, that is a terrifying proposition — and one that is of increasing concern, as space-faring nations try to game out how to hide their systems from each other.

US and allied governments, as well as commercial firms, have been racing to improve their ability to spot potential threats (both natural and deliberate) among the ever-growing satellite population: building more sensors in more locations, looking to put new ones in space, and turning to artificial intelligence and machine learning to wade through the rising tide of data. Many experts believe that this technology push is leading to a not too distant future where it will be nearly impossible for satellites to avoid prying eyes.

United States Marines are bodyguarding Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his wife, Martha-Ann Alito, Real Raw News has learned.

The deployment took place Monday after specialists at U.S. Army Cyber Command overheard a conversation between Kamala Harris and Senator Chuck Schumer, in which they made veiled threats against the Alitos for flying “politically affiliated” flags at their homes and, later, promising to retaliate against newsmongers who misconstrued the flag-flying to generate clicks for controversy.

“We really must do something about Justice Alito and his wife,” Harris told Schumer.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Schumer replied.

US Treasury posts $347 billion deficit for May

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government recorded a $347 billion May budget deficit, up sharply from the $240 billion deficit a year earlier due to the pre-payment of some June benefits and higher outlays for interest, Social Security and defense, the Treasury Department said on Wednesday.

The Treasury said outlays for May rose to $671 billion, a record for the month and a 22% increase from May 2023, but this was due in part to the payment of $93 billion in June federal benefit payments during May, as June 1 fell on a Saturday.

May receipts totaled $324 billion, a 5% increase from May 2023. The total included the correction of an April anomaly that had previously classified $20.5 billion of corporate taxes as withheld Medicare taxes, a U.S. Treasury official said.

For the first eight months of the 2024 fiscal year, the government's deficit was $1.202 trillion, up 3% from the $1.165 trillion recorded in the year-ago period.

Year-to-date receipts totaled $3.288 trillion, up 10% from a year earlier, while outlays totaled $4.49 trillion, up 8% from the prior year period, Treasury said.

Washington is not telling truth about the Gaza pier

They say food is ‘flowing’ to the people, but data shows the opposite. Pull the curtain down on this theater now.

The Biden administration wants you to believe the U.S. is leading international efforts to get humanitarian relief into Gaza and that supplies are “flowing to Palestinians” via the military’s pier operation there.

On Monday, Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder announced that to date,1,573 tons of aid had been delivered from the pier to the beach, including 492 tons since it reopened on Saturday after some bad weather knocked it out of commission last month.

But supplies from the pier aren’t flowing to Palestinians, and never really have.

Hardly any food from the pier on the Gaza coast has actually reached starving Gazans since it became operational on May 17. The World Food Program (WFP) said only 15 trucks from the pier reached its warehouse inside Gaza for distribution from May 17-18, and that no aid came from the pier from May 19–21.

In Rafah specifically, no aid will reach Palestinians in need so long as Israel’s military offensive persists. WFP halted all deliveries to Rafah on May 21 due to Israel’s invasion of the city.

In addition, on Sunday, the WFP announced that it “paused” distribution of any more humanitarian aid from the pier due to security concerns after a U.S.-backed Israeli operation killed nearly 300 Palestinians the day before. WFP is the U.N. agency in charge of coordinating deliveries from the pier into Gaza.

The 492 tons of aid the Pentagon just boasted about will sit in warehouses on the beach until further notice. Meanwhile, the U.N. says that all humanitarian operations in Gaza are on the brink of collapse.

The reality is that the $320 million (revised more recently down to $230 million) “maritime humanitarian corridor” that Biden first announced during his State of the Union address in March is not working, at least not for Palestinians. It does serve the Biden administration’s interests by making it look like the U.S. is “doing something” for the civilian population while supporting an Israeli policy that destroys and starves it. The pier, in essence, provides humanitarian cover for an inhume policy.

Pier one imports

Biden administration officials argue the pier isn’t a failure or public relations stunt but critics disagree.

On May 17, the first day the pier was operational, former USAID official and current president of Refugees International Jeremy Konyndyk said, “The pier is humanitarian theater. Much more about political optics than humanitarian assistance. … [T]he president is tweeting about a humanitarian gimmick while actual humanitarian capacity in Gaza grinds to a halt.”

On May 23, in response to a press question about Konyndyk’s comments, director of USAID’s Levant humanitarian response Dan Dieckhaus said, “You know, I would not call within a couple of days getting enough food and other supplies for tens of thousands of people for a month theater…everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I think we are already making a meaningful contribution to the overall effort.”

But according to U.N. humanitarian aid data of food imports into Gaza from January through May, far more food aid reached Gazans before the U.S. pier opened. On May 7, Israeli forces closed the Rafah crossing as part of its invasion of the city. By the end of the month, 66,181 fewer pallets of food reached Palestinians in May compared to April. The pier, which opened May 17, didn't come close to compensating for this shortfall: According to the IDF, just 1,806 pallets of food from the pier reached aid agency centers in Gaza before it broke apart in a storm on May 25.

Meanwhile, food and other aid is piling up outside Gaza at the Rafah land crossing.

A former Washington Post reporter revealed that he passed on writing a story about the upside-down U.S. flag hanging outside of Justice Samuel Alito’s home in 2021 and said he had never heard that the symbol was associated with the so-called “Stop the Steal” movement.

Speaking to Post columnist Erik Wemple, retired WaPo Supreme Court reporter Robert Barnes said he got an anonymous tip about the flag, saw the flag flying at the Alitos’ home on Jan. 6, 2021, and spoke with the Alitos about why it was upside down. He explained why he ultimately chose not to report on it.

“We determined that it wasn’t the justice that flew the flag upside down and we determined it wasn’t a protest about the election or something else on the part of Mrs. Alito,” Barnes told Wemple. Barnes said he made the determination based on Martha-Ann Alito’s “actions when I saw her and what others in the neighborhood had told me.”

“I was not aware that an upside-down flag was a symbol of ‘Stop the Steal,'” Barnes also told Wemple. “It never came up in our conversations that this was a symbol of ‘Stop the Steal.'”

Three years after Barnes was given the tip about the upside-down flag at the Alitos’ Virginia residence, the New York Times decided this the story was front-page news, publishing several hit pieces against the family and Justice Alito’s integrity.

Apple Faces Immense Pressure As Four Additional States Join Hands In An Antitrust Lawsuit Against The Company

Apple recently hosted its WWDC event to announce a plethora of updates for its products and bring its custom Apple Intelligence to the market. While the company is growing and has seen an upward trajectory in its stock prices, the US Department of Justice has growing concerns about Apple's stronghold in the market. The company was already in hot waters, and now, four additional states have joined hands against Apple's monopolistic position in the industry.

Trump Virtual Interview With Probation Office Was 30 Minutes

(Bloomberg) – Donald Trump was interviewed Monday by a New York probation officer whose sentencing report will help a judge decide how much time, if any, the former president will spend behind bars for falsifying business records, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The meeting lasted 30 minutes, and Trump joined virtually from his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, said the person, who declined to be identified because the details of the interview aren’t public. Trump’s lead defense lawyer, Todd Blanche, also participated in the meeting, the person said.

Trump, 77, is scheduled to be sentenced July 11 after becoming the first former US president to be found guilty of a crime in a case brought last year by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump faces as long as four years in prison, though legal experts expect he’ll serve far less than that and may get probation only, due to his age and his status as a first-time offender.

“President Trump and his legal team are already taking necessary steps to challenge and defeat the lawless Manhattan DA case,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

Justice Juan Merchan, who oversaw the hush-money case, will use the probation report to help decide on the sentence. Trump’s lawyers, as well as prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorney’s office, will submit separate sentencing recommendations. It’ll be up to Merchan to decide how much weight to give each recommendation.

In New York, the probation office conducts pre-sentencing interviews with defendants who are convicted of felonies and serious misdemeanors. The officers typically examine the defendant’s criminal record, interview arresting officers, family members and victims. According to the New York court system’s website, the interview is “a chance for the defendant to try to make a good impression and explain why he or she deserves a lighter punishment.”

The sentence is due to be handed down in Manhattan just days before the Republican National Convention July 15-18, when Trump will officially accept his party’s nomination.

Bragg hasn’t indicated what kind of sentence he’ll recommend. It’s not unusual for prosecutors to suggest prison terms well below the maximum, especially for first-time offenders like Trump. Trump’s lawyers are likely to seek leniency.

Plans for the sentencing hearing next month are moving ahead even as Trump aims to overturn the verdict. The former president’s legal team has a June 13 deadline to file post-verdict motions. Trump’s team is expected to ask the judge to reexamine some aspects of the trial, with a likely focus on testimony by Bragg’s star witness, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

If Trump’s motions fail, the sentencing hearing will go ahead as planned. Once Trump is sentenced, he can begin a formal appeal of the verdict, which could take months to resolve.

President Joe Biden, who will face off against Trump in November, has assailed his rival as a “convicted felon” who poses a threat to US democracy if he is reelected. But the verdict has rallied Republicans behind Trump, who raised nearly $53 million in the 24 hours following the jury’s decision.

Trump spent the past several days campaigning and fundraising in California and Nevada, where his campaign took in $33.5 million, according to a person familiar with the events.

A former head ethics counsel for the Treasury Department said it's "long overdue" for an investigation into Jared Kushner, former senior advisor to President Donald Trump known for his significant influence in the Trump administration and his work in the Middle East.

News broke Wednesday that the Senate Finance Committee launched an investigation into Kushner's overseas business activities. Committee Chair Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) asked Kushner's firm Affinity Partners for details about a $2 billion investment from the Saudi Arabian government’s Public Investment Fund in 2021 and funding from other foreign investors.

“The Saudi PIF’s decision to invest $2 billion in Affinity so soon after Kushner’s departure from the Trump White House raises concerns that the investment was a reward for official actions Kushner took to benefit the Saudi government," Wyden wrote, "including preventing accountability for the Saudi government ordering the brutal murder of journalist and American citizen Jamal Khashoggi."

In overturning a lower court ruling, the Kansas Supreme Court dealt a deserved blow to Democratic elections lawyer Marc Elias and his merry band of partisan activists by rejecting Elias’ broad attacks on mail voting safeguards in the state.

In the Left’s endless quest to find friendly venues for their lawfare, Elias and the “nonpartisan” League of Women Voters, avoided Federal court and filed suit in Kansas state court. Elias’s goal was to strike down all limitations on ballot trafficking and the entire system of signature verification. In the left’s ideal world, partisan operatives should be able to collect unlimited mail ballots and the state should have no ability to verify the validity of those ballots.

Most states allow someone other than the voter to return the voter’s mail ballot. This can allow the pernicious activity known as ballot trafficking — where a person collects mail ballots from multiple voters and returns them to election officials. Typically, close family members are allowed to return ballots, but any reasonable person can spot the problems with strangers handling other people’s ballots. Alabama bans this practice entirely, but Kansas sought only to limit it.

Kansas’ restrictions are mild, to say the least. In Kansas, a voter can return up to ten ballots. So that means a quarterback could return his ballot and the ballots of the rest of the starting offense. Or that means you could return the ballots of your spouse, parents, in-laws, and grandparents, and still have a spot left over.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Lifts New Restrictions on Early Voting Sites Ahead of 2024 Elections

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s liberal majority yesterday froze part of a lower court’s decision that stood to significantly limit the number of early voting locations municipalities may designate for the state’s 2024 elections.

The now-paused portion of the lower court’s ruling — issued in January 2024 — held that the city of Racine’s geographical distribution of early voting sites during the 2022 primary election unlawfully afforded an advantage to Democratic voters.

Although the decision applied specifically to Racine, the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) expressed concerns that the ruling would likely have statewide effects — potentially putting “many thousands of voters in larger municipalities [at] risk [of] having their access to voting unconstitutionally limited.”

The ruling at issue stemmed from a right-wing lawsuit that prevailed in restricting early voting sites based on purported “partisan advantage” and precluded the future use of a mobile van for in-person absentee voting utilized by Racine in 2022.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty — a conservative legal group that has previously challenged election rules in the Badger State — is behind the case.

Following the trial court’s judgment from earlier this year, multiple parties involved in the suit — including Wisconsin election officials, Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) — asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to review the case, which it agreed to do in a May 3 order.
