The Fallacy of Bidenomics: A Return to Central Planning

…To that end, the Trump administration pursued a policy of preserving productive capacity in the economy so as to enable a resumption of economic activity once the underlying public health emergency had passed. The economic data in January 2021 suggested that for the most part, that policy succeeded. The arrival of vaccines in December 2020, as a result of Operation Warp Speed, meant that the worst of the public health emergency was over. A careful appraisal of the economy would have led sensible policy makers to conclude that all that was needed for a return to the pre-Covid economy was for the government to get out of the way.

Upon assuming office, the Biden administration cast aside risk management and made irresponsible choices to pursue a set of policies designed to deliver the managed economy it desired. Unfortunately, the goal was not a return to economic growth and real wage gains, but social and political engineering under a classic central planning paradigm. The Biden administration also seriously misjudged the economic consequences of its approach, particularly with respect to inflation, triggering a surge in prices in excess of anything seen in four decades.

So doctrinaire was this administration in its social goals, that its members failed to recall a foreboding, famous conversation between President John F. Kennedy and James Tobin, a Yale economics professor, advisor to the Treasury Department, and Janet Yellen’s mentor. In the early 1960s, JFK asked “…but is there any economic limit on the size of debt in relation to income? There isn’t, is there?” The future Nobel laureate replied, “The limit is inflation.” JFK ended, “That’s right, isn’t it? The deficit can be any size, provided it doesn’t cause inflation.

Everything else is just talk.” Indeed, as Biden and his economic team take to the airwaves today to defend their ideological, inflation-inducing policies, all they have left is “just talk.”

Unrealized losses on the rise among the U.S. banks

Banks’ unrealized losses have increased significantly, reaching $517 billion. These losses stem primarily from their holdings in residential mortgage-backed securities.

When interest rates rise, the value of these securities falls. While these losses are realized once the securities are sold, they can become a significant burden if banks need to raise cash quickly.

This marks the ninth consecutive quarter of high unrealized losses, coinciding with the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes that began in early 2022.

Increased number of problem banks in the U.S.

The FDIC also reported a rise in the number of banks on its Problem Bank List. These banks are at risk of insolvency due to various financial weaknesses. However, the FDIC emphasizes that the number of problem banks remains within the historical range observed during non-crisis periods.

Federal agency assures that the US banking system isn’t in immediate danger. However, it acknowledges ongoing challenges posed by inflation, volatile stock markets, and geopolitical tensions. These factors could impact banks’ ability to lend, generate profits, and maintain sufficient liquidity.

Additionally, specific loan portfolios, such as those for office properties and credit cards, require close monitoring due to potential deterioration. The FDIC will continue to supervise these issues along with funding pressures and shrinking profit margins.

$517,000,000,000 in Unrealized Losses Hit US Banking System, FDIC Says 63 Lenders on ‘Problem List’

June 2, 2024

Unrealized losses in the US banking system are once again on the rise, according to new numbers from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

In its Quarterly Banking Profile report, the FDIC says banks are now saddled with more than half a trillion dollars in paper losses on their balance sheets, due largely to exposure to the residential real estate market.

Unrealized losses represent the difference between the price banks paid for securities and the current market value of those assets.

Although banks can hold securities until they mature without marking them to market on their balance sheets, unrealized losses can become an extreme liability when banks need liquidity.

“Unrealized losses on available-for-sale and held-to-maturity securities increased by $39 billion to $517 billion in the first quarter. Higher unrealized losses on residential mortgage-backed securities, resulting from higher mortgage rates in the first quarter, drove the overall increase. This is the ninth straight quarter of unusually high unrealized losses since the Federal Reserve began to raise interest rates in first quarter 2022.”

The FDIC also says that the number of lenders on its Problem Bank List rose last quarter. According to the agency, these banks are on the brink of insolvency due to financial, operational, or managerial weakness or a combination of such issues.

“The number of banks on the Problem Bank List, those with a CAMELS composite rating of ‘4’ or ‘5’ increased from 52 in fourth quarter 2023 to 63 in first quarter 2024. The number of problem banks represented 1.4% of total banks, which was within the normal range for non-crisis periods of 1% to 2% of all banks. Total assets held by problem banks increased $15.8 billion to $82.1 billion during the quarter.”

Nor did he pursue others who did the same. Perhaps this was intentional and part of "The Plan" as it did expose all who are involved in this 16 Year Plan to Destroy America.

So will he or won't he? That is the question and at this point, only he knows.

I feel certain that if he doesn't lawfully and Constitutionally as Q said, "by the book" hold these people to account [They] will never stop this abuse of power and it goes on in perpetuity. And so does the downfall of America.

Mr. President, you have many mandates that We, the People are charging you with. All are important but this one undergirds all of it. You must come to the realization that there is a small but sizable percentage of this country who have zero interest in uniting. Their objective is destroying this country, not finding common ground. Seasoned legal minds differ on whether felon and former president Donald Trump should receive prison time for his conviction on 34 counts. However, considering the context of Trump’s crimes and his propensity to threaten judges, juries and witnesses, significant prison time is the only punishment that fits the crime and this convict. (98% of legal scholars and lawyers believe this a joke and a stain on the courts, Jennifer, be honest)

Trump’s crime of falsification of business records is considered a Class E felony — the lowest-level felony, punishable by up to four years in prison. (Punishment for each count would run concurrently, so the maximum would be four years, not 136 years.) Some, but certainly not most, of the convictions on these types of charges do result in prison time. In “Trying Trump: A Guide to His First Election Interference Criminal Trial,”Norm Eisen examined(who made up this crime) almost 10,000 prosecutions for falsifying business records in New York since 2015, finding that about 10 percent resulted in prison time. While Trump’s status as a first-time offender would not exempt him from prison time, it normally would weigh in favor of a lighter sentence such as probation only or minimal prison time. But is this a normal case?

Fraudulent record-keeping charges routinely get elevated to felonies (contrary to uninformed critics who thought this was an exotic maneuver), but Justice Juan Merchanhas already recognized Trump’s crime was especially significant because of its momentous consequences: concealing possibly outcome-determinative information from the voters in 2016. (Even Trump cronies recognized the magnitude of their chicanery. “What have we done?” attorney Keith Davidson texted the editor of the National Enquirer after the election.)

Merchan wrote in a pretrial ruling that “while it is true that the charges involve the lowest level felony and no one suffered physical harm, it can hardly be said that the allegations are not severe.” He stressed: “The People claim that the Defendant paid an individual $130,000 to conceal a sexual encounter in an effort to influence the 2016 Presidential election and then falsified 34 business records to cover up the payoff. In this Court’s view, those are serious allegations.” And, therefore, the convictions are serious.

In addition to the gravity of the offense, the factors weighing most heavily in favor of a significant prison sentence are Trump’s conduct and character. It is not “simply” that Trump has multiple civil judgments against him (e.g., sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll, inflating his property values and misusing charitable funds) or that he spearheaded a violent insurrection to overturn an election or even that his conduct resulted in multiple contempt citations in Merchan’s and Justice Arthur Engoron’s courtrooms. In this case, character and conduct also encompass how Trump treats the criminal justice system. (It’s illegal to include prior cases in the evidence of this case)

From that perspective, imprisonment may be the only effective penalty because of Trump’s defective character. Chump-change fines for contempt during the trial did not slow him down. So long as he remains at large, with unfettered access to social media, he poses a threat to the people he attacks and the judicial system he maligns. Incarceration is the only means of holding Trump accountable for his wholesale attacks on the rule of law that continue to this day.

Merchan should take into account that Trump has hurled threats (telling the truth of how corrupt the judge, his family and lawyers are threats, according to this dummy)and smears (once again, truth is not a threat or a smears) at witnesses, jurors and the judge (including his family). He also should consider the racist (here we go again, if someone is black, its racism to criticize his corruption and stupidity) attacks and implicit threat of violence directed at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The felon who will stand before him has tried to intimidate witnesses and delegitimize the New York courts as corrupt. In continuing to incite his mob (that now threatens the safety of the anonymous jurors) and demean the courts as “rigged,” Trump does far more damage to the people of New York (not to mention the country) than he did with any single criminal act. The potential that New Yorkers will be less willing to serve as jurors after watching the vitriol unleashed on these 12 people could be among Trump’s most enduring injuries to the court system.

Taking a step back, Trump’s tactics are familiar to those who study fascism. “Fascism (KEK) encourages contempt for democratic institutions, particularly elections, and the rule of law,” the Public Leadership Institute explained in a 2022 essay synthesizing a number of works. “Instead, it calls on the majority group to turn over power to a strongman and his lieutenants, while glorifying the use of violence in support of fascist myths and goals.”

From historical and modern examples, we know that illiberal movements “have as a priority to control the judiciary, because only by doing so it is possible for them to consolidate an authoritarian electoral model.” (Oh you mean like WAPO working to destroy the Supreme Court because you don’t like the majority or Conservative?) When independence of the courts is eroded and the leader and his cult accept as “fair” only the outcomes that favor their cause, they can proceed to take a wrecking ball to other democratic institutions. (The Supreme Court’s transparent effort to block Trump’s Jan. 6 trial before the election shows that the MAGA effort to control the judiciary is well underway.)

With other criminal cases against Trump delayed, Merchan alone has the responsibility for the foreseeable future to mete out punishment that is appropriate for Trump’s crimes and sufficient to protect the justice system. The voters ultimately will have to reject fascism at the ballot box, but at present Merchan must exercise his discretion in sentencing Trump to actual incarceration for at least a year to shelter the independent judiciary — judges, jurors and witnesses — threatened by this felon and his rhetoric. If he does not, he puts New Yorkers and the Constitution at risk.

‘Has the West Successfully Demonized Russia?’ RT panel: Key takeaways

Western media and officials are engaged in a battle of ‘perception vs. reality’ to portray Moscow in a negative light, experts say

Prominent political pundits have offered their views on the longstanding Western campaign to promote the image of Russia as a hostile country, as

part of a panel discussion titled ‘The Empire of Evil: Has the West Successfully Demonized Russia?’

The hour-long event hosted by RT took place on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg 2024 International Economic Forum on Friday. It featured speakers such as former UN Special Commission weapons inspector Scott Ritter, and Tara Reade, a former aide to Joe Biden. Others included former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, the great nephew of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, Alexander von Bismarck, and American political commentator Jackson Hinkle.

The event was moderated by RT host and correspondent Oksana Boyko.

Here are some key takeaways from the discussion.

Perception vs. reality

Western countries and media are shaping an image of Russia as ‘the enemy’, and use this to justify the allocation of resources to deter it, Scott Ritter said, calling this effort a battle of “perception vs. reality.”

He argued that the West tries to make Russia look like it is “worthy of confrontation” to justify the efforts, while trying to suppress the true image of Russia.

”Anybody who has the audacity to correct the record, to reach into Russia, to capture the Russian experience… and try to expose it to the Western audience, is deemed an enemy of the state,” he said, adding that the fact that he was prevented by the US authorities from going to Russia only proves his point.

Ignorance regarding Russia

Ritter noted that during the Cold War, US policymakers encouraged a better understanding of Russia, including its language, culture, and history, but now, all of this expertise has been squandered and neglected.

He added that the US diplomatic corps and the military are now staffed by people “trained not to learn about your enemy, but despise… and hate” them. The only real solution for Washington is to start taking knowledge of Russia seriously again, Ritter argued.

Animosity towards Russia as an artificial construct

The anti-Russia sentiment in the US “is completely manufactured by political elites,” Tara Reade said, claiming that this animosity largely stems from financial incentives. She explained that some former US officials who now work for defense corporations are beneficiaries of weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

American journalist Jackson Hinkle concurred, describing the US-Russia stand-off as “artificial,” as the US has had “no history of beef” with Russia, with Moscow supporting Washington on numerous occasions in the past. A notable example was World War II, when the Soviet Union and the US fought against Nazi Germany, Hinkle said.

”Ultimately, we don’t have any reason to hate Russia or Russians, especially today, with a younger generation of increasingly traditional and… conservative young men rising up in America.”

Deep-rooted East-West antagonism

Western countries traditionally see Russia as part of a collective East, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said, arguing that this mindset has become fertile ground for cultivating a negative view of the country.

‘Europe lost its soul’

The version of the EU that once embraced freedom of speech and the rule of law is now a distant memory, as these values have been shattered in recent years, Kneissl believes.

While the bloc may eventually manage to deal with its economic and political problems, “Europe has lost its soul,” she argued.

Hope for youth

While Alexander von Bismarck agreed that Europe has lost its soul, he argued that this is not true when it comes to young people, as they rely heavily on social media to access views that don’t portray a one-sided version of events, and use this tool for fruitful debate.

Von Bismarck claimed that 80% of Germans don’t believe in what their government says or does, despite the mainstream media’s attempts to impose their own version of reality on them.
