Newly Conservative California School Board Bans Critical Race Theory In First Meeting

The Temecula Valley Unified School Board voted to prohibit the teaching of Critical Race Theory from its classrooms on Tuesday.

The move comes after the board majority recently flipped with three newly elected candidates.

“I believe that the Temecula School Board is going to be a beacon of light to the rest of the state and the rest of the nation. If it can be done in Temecula. It can be done anywhere. If it can be done in California, you can do it anywhere,” Pastor Tim Thompson, founder of the Inland Empire Family PAC, a group focused on parental rights in education that endorsed the three candidates, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

After flipping to a conservative majority, a California school board voted to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) on Tuesday.

The Temecula Valley Unified School Board adopted a resolution 3-2 which bans the teaching of CRT from the classroom, the same night the three new board members were sworn in. The resolution was introduced by newly elected Joseph Komrosky who said the resolution was a way for him to keep “a campaign promise.”

“The first night Dr. Joseph Komrosky said ‘I ran my campaign making promises to my future constituents and tonight, I’m gonna make good on those campaign promises,'” Pastor Tim Thompson, founder of the Inland Empire Family PAC, a group focused on parental rights in education that endorsed the three candidates, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This is the first one and he did good on that campaign promise and I’m grateful for that. He’s a man of his word. All three of them.”

CRT holds that America is systemically racist, and teaches people to consider social interactions in terms of race. Its adherents pursue antiracism by forgoing merit-based policies in favor of race-based policies.

The board can require educators to teach curriculum only approved by the board and neither United States law or California law require the teaching of CRT, the resolution stated. The policy stated that the school district “will not tolerate racism and racist conduct.”

The board also adopted a resolution condemning racism Tuesday, stating that any racist conduct will be punished.

WASHINGTON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate late on Wednesday passed by voice vote a bill to bar federal employees from using Chinese-owned short video-sharing app TikTok on government-owned devices.

The bill must still be approved by the U.S. House of Representatives before going to President Joe Biden for approval. The House of Representatives would need to pass the Senate bill before the current congressional session ends, which is expected next week.

A SLEW OF prominent journalists were suspended from Twitter on Thursday afternoon, adding onto an already controversial week of content moderation decisions by new platform owner Elon Musk.

New York Times reporter Ryan Mac, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell, Mashable’s Matt Binder, CNN reporter Donie O’Sullivan, and independent journalist Aaron Rupar were removed from the platform in a late afternoon purge. The removed accounts shared a common thread of critical coverage of Musk and his management and policy decisions following his October takeover of Twitter.

Also removed from twitter was an account run by freelance journalist Tony Webster, who shared on Mastodon, that he was booted from his account with no warning. “My Twitter account has been suspended,” he wrote with a screenshot of his suspended account. “I’ve received no explanation.”

The slew of bans comes on the heels of a controversial decision by musk to ban software developer Jack Sweeney, who created various Twitter accounts that tracked the flights of private jets and celebrity aircraft via various twitter accounts under his stewardship.

Australian Super members locked out of withdrawals, trading

Australian Super customers who hold a Member Direct account have been locked out of their accounts for over three weeks now as the financial giant struggles with technical issues.

Australian Super is Australia’s largest superannuation fund with approximately $245 billion under management from 3 million members. The fund provides an option for its members to choose what is known as a Member Direct option, which is in essence a self-managed superfund operating through Australian Super.

Due to a portal upgrade, Member Direct holders have not been able to make withdrawals from their accounts for some weeks now.

According to Australian Super, “Most members have been able to access and use the new portal and upgraded app but we are aware some members continue are [sic] experiencing issues. We’re working to resolve issues as quickly as possible and have redirected additional staff to assist members. We understand this is frustrating for impacted members and would like to reassure all members that their information and account is secure”.

The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) has confirmed that it has received numerous complaints from members.

It is unclear the extent of the issue however AustralianSuper has revealed that around 22,000 members are in Member Direct out of the almost 3 million AustralianSuper members.

LOUDOUN COUNTY (LifeSiteNews) – Disgraced former Loudoun County Public Schools superintendent Scott Ziegler has been indicted on three misdemeanor counts for his handling of a school rape case that had been kept quiet allegedly to avoid reflecting badly on LGBT education policy.

The Washington Examiner reports that a grand jury impaneled by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares returned charges against Ziegler of misdemeanor false publication, misdemeanor prohibited conduct, and misdemeanor penalizing an employee for a court appearance, potentially carrying up to one year of prison time; as well as a felony perjury charge against LCPS Public Information Officer Wayde Byard, punishable by up to 10 years in jail.

While LCPS will await any additional updates from the Special Grand Jury, LCPS plans to address the recommendations of the Special Grand Jury in the School Board’s December 13, 2022 work session,” the district said Monday, adding that Byard has been placed on leave. “The Board will consider policy-related and process improvements to implement to further ensure the safety and care of all LCPS staff and students and restore trust within our community.”

The situation that led to the indictments first came to national attention when U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland instructed the FBI to mobilize a “partnership” between federal, state, and local authorities to discuss “strategies” relating to handling alleged “threats” to educators from parents protesting controversial lesson content such as critical race theory.

As evidence of such “threats,” the Biden administration cited a letter from the heads of the National School Board Association containing examples of alleged unruly behavior at various school board meetings. That letter, for which the NSBA later apologized, cited the case of Loudoun parent Scott Smith, who was arrested for disorderly conduct at one such meeting, but it soon came out that he was actually trying to confront school board members about the district allegedly covering up the rape of his daughter by a “transgender” student in the girls’ bathroom.

That, and a second student sexual assault claim, intensified protests against the district’s leadership, fueling the election of Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who along with Miyares vowed to investigate Loudoun County.

LCPS fired Ziegler within days of the grand jury releasing a report finding that school officials “failed at every juncture” in handling the case.

“The fact that it took an election, a new governor, and on Day One an executive order to get this… investigated, I think, really speaks to the fact that I think the Loudoun County School Board let everyone down and didn’t do their job,” Youngkin said Sunday. “I’m so proud of the Attorney General’s Office. And I want to thank the grand jury for the extensive effort and work that they put in to illuminate what was a terrible, horrific circumstance for all Loudoun County and Virginia.”
