Two British soldiers who were captured by Russian forces whilst fighting for Ukraine have now been sentenced to death.

Liz Truss, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, stated that she is "[d]eeply concerned by liquidation of Russian human rights group Memorial by courts. Memorial has worked tirelessly for decades to ensure abuses of Soviet era are never forgotten.”

“Its closure is another chilling blow to freedom of expression in Russia."

Liz Truss, back in February 2022, expressed on national television that she backs people who want to fight in Ukraine where she said that Ukrainians were fighting for freedom, "not for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe."

Ukraine's president Volodymir Zelensky urged foreign nationals to fight for Ukraine, as a quote on his website says, "[e]veryone who wants to join the defence of security in Europe and the world may come and stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians against the invaders of the 21st Century."

The two soldiers captured are 28-year-old Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, aged 48, who have been accused of being mercenaries a Russian news agency has said.

The two men were captured in Mariupol, before appearing in court in the DPR (Donetsk People's Republic) and have been issued the death sentence.

There was a third man, Saaudan Brahim who is a Morrocan national, that was also captured and also is now sentenced to death.

All three men were guilty of "mercenary activities and committing actions aimed at seizing power and overthrowing the constitutional order of the DPR."

Mr Aslin appeared in court behind a set of bars and said, "I was hoping the sentence would be a lot fairer judging the circumstances in which I helped the investigation and also because I surrendered to the Donetsk People's Republic. "

"I wish it could be different but God will be the one that will judge me when the time comes."

The spokesman for the prime minister said, "We've said, continually, that prisoners of war shouldn't be exploited for political purposes. You'll know that under the Geneva Convention, prisoners of war are entitled to combatant immunity, and they should not be prosecuted for participation in hostilities. So we will continue to work with Ukrainian authorities to try and secure the release of any British nationals who were serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and who are being held as prisoners of war."

Majority of UK’s 366 monkeypox cases are in London, says health agency

Almost 99% of people infected are men and the average age is 38 according to UK Health Security Agency data

Four-fifths of the people in England who have been infected with monkeypox live in London, an investigation by the UK Health Security Agency has found.

Of the cases interviewed, 99% of those infected are men and their average age is 38, the agency added after analysing 336 of the 366 confirmed cases found in the UK since the outbreak began last month.

The same overwhelming majority of cases – 99% – involve men who are gay, bisexual or have sex with other men, the UKHSA said. Interviews it has conducted with 45 men with monkeypox specifically about their sexual health found that 44% had visited “sex-on-premises venues” in the UK or abroad, such as saunas, sex clubs and dark rooms, while they were incubating the infection.

In addition, 64% had met new sexual partners during their incubation period through a dating app. Incubation lasts anywhere between five and 21 days.

Tracing all the sexual partners of men who have contracted monkeypox will be hard, the UKHSA admitted, as “most cases reported having sexual contact with new or casual partners … where contact details were unavailable for tracing”.

The UKHSA report is based on close scrutiny of the history of the 336 laboratory-confirmed cases that had been identified in the UK by 8 June, including detailed questionnaires that 152 cases filled in. That total rose to 366 on Friday.

“A high proportion of England cases were known to be London residents”, it said, adding that 224 of 276 people for whom they had a home address lived in the capital.

In terms of their sex, 311 of 314 confirmed cases were men, with three women. They ranged in age from 32 to 44.

“Findings show that monkeypox is being transmitted in geographically diffuse sexual networks”, the report added. Among the 45 interviewed 98% had had sex with other men during the incubation period. In that group 60% had been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection during the previous year, 44% had had more than ten sexual partners in the preceding three months and the same proportion had taken part in group sex while the infection was incubating.

“Sexual networks involved in this outbreak are interconnected both within and without the UK”, the UKHSA said. Among the 45 cases, 30% had had sex in a city outside their usual place of residence, 20% had taken part in sexual activity abroad and 24% had had sex with men who were not UK residents.

Health officials hope that sex-on-premises venues will agree to implement “targeted interventions [which] would support outbreak control”, to try to reduce the risk of further transmission of the monkeypox virus.

The agency’s “early evidence and preliminary analyses” also say that the number of detected cases so far means that the outbreak in England is at level 2 of four levels. That is defined as “transmission within a defined sub-population with high numbers of close contacts”.

However, with numbers rising, officials are monitoring it for signs that it has reached level 3 – “transmission within multiple sub-populations or larger sub-population”.

Third Unaoil bribery offender launches London appeal against conviction

LONDON (Reuters) - A third man jailed in Britain for bribery over oil deals in Iraq is appealing his conviction after two co-defendants had guilty verdicts quashed in the case prosecuted by the UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

A lawyer for Stephen Whiteley, a 66-year-old former manager of Monaco-based energy consultancy Unaoil, said on Monday he believed his client's conviction was unsafe given that London's Court of Appeal had overturned the other two rulings.

In December, the Attorney General ordered a forensic review into SFO failings during the Unaoil case and a third successful appeal could pile more pressure on SFO Director Lisa Osofsky and rekindle a debate about the future of the agency.

The SFO, which combines investigatory and prosecutorial powers, is facing criticism over its handling of some high-profile cases, such as the collapse of a trial of former Serco executives because of failures in disclosure.

"We won't stop fighting serious fraud, bribery and corruption. Our investigation into Unaoil uncovered the payment of $17 million in bribes that were paid to win contracts worth $1.7 billion in Iraq. We are aware of Mr Whiteley's appeal and are considering our next steps," the SFO said in a statement.

Whiteley, sentenced to three years in jail in 2020, was one of three men convicted by jury after a four-year investigation into how Unaoil, once run by the prominent Ahsani family, helped major Western companies win energy projects in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa over two decades.

But in a major blow to the SFO, the Court of Appeal overturned the convictions of Whiteley's co-defendant Ziad Akle, a one-time Unaoil executive, and that of Paul Bond, a former manager at Dutch energy services firm SBM Offshore.

Senior judges said the SFO had refused to hand documents to the defence that showed "wholly inappropriate" contact between senior SFO officers and a U.S.-based fixer with vested interests, and that this had hindered defence lawyers.

"The quashing of Mr Akle's conviction, and now that of Mr Bond, due to the refusal of the SFO to disclose material to the defence, we believe also makes Mr Whiteley's conviction unsafe," said Sam Healey, a partner at JMW Solicitors, who is representing Whiteley.

Unaoil's former Iraq partner, Basil Al Jarah, is the fourth man jailed in the British part of a global investigation into Unaoil. He was sentenced to three years and four months in jail after pleading guilty in 2019 to bribery offences.

Former Director of Public Prosecutions and High Court judge David Calvert-Smith, appointed by the Attorney General to lead the review into SFO failings, had planned to present his report in late May.

But the Attorney General's office said on Monday there would be a one month delay and that it now hoped to update parliament on the findings and the government's response before July 21.

Lawmakers have periodically called for the SFO to be rolled into a broader crime-fighting force.

Days before, The New York Times published an article titled “Russian Hackers Acted to Aid Trump in Election, U.S. Says,” citing "senior administration officials."

A story published by The New York Times weeks, on Jan. 10, 2017, suggested that Russian hackers “gained limited access” to the Republican National Committee. Jan. 10, 2017 is also the same day BuzzFeed News published the infamous anti-Trump dossier.

Following the text about “sisters leaking,” Strzok wrote to Page:

“And we need to talk more about putting C reporting in our submission. They’re going to declassify all of it…”

Page replied: “I know. But they’re going to declassify their stuff, how do we withhold…”

“We will get extraordinary questions. What we did what we’re doing. Just want to ensure everyone is good with it and has thought thru all implications,” Strzok wrote. “CD should bring it up with the DD.”

A source told Fox News that “C” is likely in reference to classified information, whereas “CD” is Cyber Division, and DD could refer to former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in March for making an unauthorized disclosure to the news media, and "lacked candor" under oath on multiple occassions.

It is unclear what “submission” Strzok and Page were referring to.

A source told Fox News that the messages were part of a newly released batch of Strzok-Page communications from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, uncovered as part of his investigation into the start of the FBI’s Russia investigation.

A spokesman for the inspector general declined to comment to Fox News.

Strzok and Page were first brought into the spotlight last December, when it was revealed that Horowitz discovered a series of anti-Trump text messages between the two officials, who were romantically involved.

Strzok and Page both served on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team investigating Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates in the 2016 presidential election. Page served on the special counsel’s team on a short detail, returning back to the FBI’s Office of General Counsel in July 2017.

The discovery of the anti-Trump messages exchanged with Page ultimately got Strzok booted from Mueller’s team and reassigned last year to the FBI’s office of human resources.

n July, Strzok lost his security clearance and was escorted from his FBI office. In August, Strzok was officially fired from the FBI.

Both Strzok and Page testified on Capitol Hill this summer.

Horowitz released a 600-page report on the FBI’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while conducting official business as secretary of state.

The inspector general report found that some bureau officials “appeared to mix political opinion with discussions about the MYE investigation.” MYE refers to Midyear Exam, which was the FBI’s code word for the Clinton probe.

Horowitz, found no evidence that the political bias found impacted prosecutorial decisions in the Clinton email probe.

Horowitz confirmed in June that he is currently investigating whether Strzok’s anti-Trump bias factored into the launch of the bureau’s Russia investigation.

WASHINGTON, DC – Professor Jonathan Turley, a top national legal expert on government investigations, commented on Thursday about Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to bring in U.S. Attorney John Huber. Turley called it “brilliant”to combine all the powers of the U.S. Department of Justice’s inspector general with a prosecutor who can bring charges, seek indictments, and get results for President Trump far more quickly than a second special counsel.

Turley is a law professor at George Washington University, who attained national fame during the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton as a top legal authority on special counsels and congressional investigations of government wrongdoing, including criminal wrongdoing. His reputation has only grown during the intervening 20 years, as he has weighed in on scandals and investigations of public officials from both political parties.

Sessions sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC), and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), informing them that Huber is conducting a full-fledged criminal investigation into all the matters Republicans are calling for a special counsel to investigate. Huber has been investigating these possible crimes for five months, since November 13, 2017.

During an interview on Lou Dobbs’s Fox Business Network show, Turley explained to guest host Stuart Varney that the media are wrongly reporting that Sessions will not appoint a second special counsel. “He did not foreclose the possibility of a special counsel,” he insisted.

Instead, Turley explained that Sessions has ordered Huber to “team up with the inspector general (IG) within the Justice Department to investigate these matters.”

Sessions informed Congress in his letter that all the matters recommended for investigation by Goodlatte, Gowdy, and Grassley are “fully within the scope of [Huber’s] existing mandate.” He also informed the chairmen that Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who is working with Huber, has a staff of 470 investigators, giving Huber access to enormous investigative firepower that far exceeds the staff of any special counsel.

That point is critical because as Sessions’ March 29 letter explains, the inspector general’s jurisdiction to conduct civil and criminal investigations includes “actions taken by former employees after they have left government service.” Then Huber can act on any of those matters.

As a U.S. attorney, Huber has full authority to empanel a grand jury and to file criminal charges. A grand jury can be empaneled anywhere, which means that it could be a group of citizens from deep-red Utah – in the heart of Trump country – instead of the D.C. Swamp that decides whether to hand down indictments for felony prosecution.

“The Inspector General’s jurisdiction extends not only to allegations of legal violations, but also to allegations that Department employees violated established practices as well,” Sessions added in his letter, which means that the IG’s report can hold people accountable even for actions that do not violate a specific statute.

“I think [Sessions] did the right thing here,” said Turley. “I think the president should listen to General Sessions on this one.”

Sessions “can always appoint a special counsel,” Turley explained, but that should not even be necessary because Huber “has the ability to prosecute cases.”

“Do these prosecutors have the same power to investigate and get to the bottom of things that a special counsel would have?” Varney asked.

“Actually, yes,” Turley answered. “I think people are missing what could be a brilliant move here by Sessions. What he did is he essentially combined the powers of the inspector general with the powers of a line prosecutor.”

“This prosecutor does have not just the experience and training to look for a criminal case; he has the ability to move a case of that kind” in court, Turley emphasized.

Not only that, but if Sessions believes crimes were committed, but Huber for some reason does not bring charges, “Sessions has reserved the right to go ahead and appoint a special counsel,” said Turley.

“That’s a powerful combination,” he observed.

When Varney asked if Huber and Horowitz’s status as “Obama holdovers” creates a possible problem for Sessions and President Trump, Turley said no, observing that each man has a great reputation as a “dogged investigator.”

Breitbart News has separately confirmed that Utah Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee, both of whom are Republicans who support aggressive investigations of these scandals, enthusiastically supported Huber to be reappointed by President Trump as his U.S. attorney in Utah. The Senate confirmed Huber in 2017 for a second term.

Huber is a Utah lawyer, not a D.C lawyer. “That distance between him and Washington is very important,” Turley explained, because Huber is not part of the Deep State, that is, not cozy buddies with the cocktail party scene that is suspected of perpetrating all of these actions against President Trump and his administration.

Turley said President Trump should be very happy that Sessions chose this route of appointing Huber, who has the power to seek indictments and prosecute cases, and teamed him up with Horowitz, who has 470 investigators at his disposal, if the president wants to see swift and decisive action.

“If a special counsel were appointed, there would be a great deal of delay,” Turley stated, versus the team of Huber and Horowitz, who are already five months into this investigation.

A former West Mercia police officer has been jailed for 20 weeks for sharing 10 memes about George Floyd in a WhatsApp group chat and charged with "sending grossly offensive messages".

The judge by the name of Tan Ikram said, "You were a prison officer. I have no doubt you would have received training in relation to diversity and inclusion in that role.”

“You undermined the confidence the public has in the police. Your behavior brings the criminal justice system as a whole into disrepute. You are there to protect the public and enforce the law. But what you did was the complete opposite."

The person who made a complaint about James Watt, left the group chat and posted screenshots on Twitter with the caption: "Former work colleague now serving police officer sent these in group chat. What hope is there in police in the UK sharing these."

When James' phone was seized for an investigation, it was revealed that James sent "grossly offensive" memes to multiple whatsapp groups and through Meta’s Messenger.

Watts was ordered to pay the complainant £75 compensation along with a £115 in court costs and a £128 victim surcharge.

Judge Ikram decided to dismiss the idea of a suspended sentence where he said "A message must go out and that message can only go out through an immediate sentence of imprisonment."

For new eyes: we have determined that the Red Bus pic was taken during Christmas timeframe. Look along the rooftop of the bus in the Q pic; between two windows there is what appears to be a triangular shape attached to the exterior wall of the building behind the bus; this is a fixture, or brace, that is extended, i.e. under tension, so as to hold up the overhead lighting decorations that were strung across the street each Christmas season from mid-NOV to mid-JAN. The decorations vary in style but the brace or fixing reappears in this location on that building each year. In more recent years the brace has also varied from what is seen in the Q pic. How did we date the Red Bus pic? First we noticed that the bus sign underwent a change in late 2013 and that the new sign matched the one captured in the Q pic. We also documented this change in planning documents from the City of Westminster; the change was directly related to changes in the use of the bus stand due to renovations planned for the building kitty-corner from the bus stand. The work on that building began in March of 2014. This means that the Red Bus pic was taken during the Christmas season sometime during the appearance of the overhead decorations. Furthermore, we found a video recording of this scene that was taken on DEC 31st, ie New Year's Eve, which showed a blue police viewing platform on the sidewalk on the other side of the street from the bus stand. This platform does not appear in the Q pic. That platform is a sort of stake in the ground; the Red Bus pic was taken either BEFORE the platform was erected or AFTER it was taken down; but not while it stood in that spot. Of the many images we have found, none have shown that platform at any time other than the week of New Year Eve. It is possible that its presence was limited to that week but this has not been verified yet. We have also attempted to date the Red Bus pic by the appearance of posters for events during that winter of 2013/2014 but have not yet established a narrowed time interval on that basis.

The Christmas Timeframe is reinforced by the fact that Q posted this image om Q 1405 along with a pic of two people at Winter Wonderland which appears only during late-Nov-Dec-early-Jan 2013/2014. The Red Bus was also embedded in Q 1406 which included pics of Piccadilly Circus, which we have determined to have been taken during the Christmas Timeframe also. Details in the Q pics that are situated in the Winter Wonderland theme park have been connected with 2013/2014 and have helped narrow the time interval for those pics to mid-DEC to first week of JAN. We may have reason to lean toward a more narrow interval that falls during the week of Christmas.

That would fit with our work on dating the Q pics of the Victoria Embankment in the vicinity of the Corinthia Hotel and Hungerford Bridge. We have indications that at least some of those pics were taken during Christmas week.

As for the red bus in the Red Bus pic, we have been working to identify the particular vehicle. Each double decker has an ID NUMBER which allows one to trace its origin, routes, and transfers of ownership. The bus in the Q pic displays a cream colour livery, has the telltale middle square window of the RML version of this type of bus, and is further distinguished by its ad-free shiny side panels. There are other details that may help identify this unit and these have been discussed in previous breads. In all the images we have scrutinized, we have yet to find a pic of an RML parked at this bus stand - ever. The RMLs were still in general service on Transport for London routes until around 2012; for a few years after being taken out of service and replaced by modern buses, a few of these classic double deckers were kept in service on what were known as Heritage Routes. There were just two such routes and neither made stops at this bus stand. But many of these old buses were acquired by firms that rented them out for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, corporate events; there have been times when these were returned to general service, such as during strikes, but even then this bus stand was not on the general routes.

The bus stand has been used primarily for a tourism operation, The ORIGINAL Bus Tour, which is equipped with double deckers that have no roof over the top deck – open tops. And those do not match the bus in the Q pic. It is possible that the bus stand was available for bus hires serving special events but these would have been quick on-off stops. So if we could identify THAT bus we might have a good shot at narrowing the date of the Q pic quite precisely to a particular event and possibly a particular schedule. For instance, this bus may have taken a group to the Winter Wonderland theme park.

Anguish of young man who had sex organs removed on NHS then regretted it the same day… as he SUES NHS over gender reassignment surgery

A young British man who had his genitals removed during gender reassignment surgery is suing the NHS over the operation in a historic legal action.

He complains that doctors did not warn him of the drastic outcome of the body-altering surgery which has left him infertile, incontinent and feeling like a ‘sexual eunuch’.

He said on Twitter yesterday: ‘The minute I woke up from surgery, I knew I had made the biggest mistake of my life.’

Campaigners say that it is the first medical negligence case over NHS transgender care in this country. The NHS trust involved has not been named.

Stephanie Davies-Arai, founder of Transgender Trend, a group advising parents on transgender children and young adults, said: ‘It is hoped this will force a re-think by the NHS about this kind of barbaric surgery on patients who are told by medics it will help them.

‘He has a very real case for compensation against the heath service. We believe he has suffered harm.’

His case has been taken on by lawyers in Liverpool. It centres on whether the NHS and its gender clinics adequately counselled him before the operation five years ago. The patient, in his thirties, was brought up in the North of England and has de-transitioned from being a woman to live as a man again.

The man says he is gay and his sexuality should have been discussed before the radical, irreversible gender surgery. ‘I have been castrated. That is the correct term,’ he says on his Twitter feed, which has 19,000 followers.

‘I cannot believe they [the NHS] were allowed to do this to me.

Two people charged with conspiracy offences linked to allegations of organ harvesting

A woman and a man were charged today (Thursday, 23 June) with conspiring to arrange the travel of a child into the UK in order to harvest organs.

The charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime team.

[A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

[B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

They appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on the same day where they were remanded in custody to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 7 July.

The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support.

Some doubt that the fixture attached to the building in the Red Bus pic is actually under tension.

1. Can't see the guide lines or cables that would have run off either side of the fixture.

2. If the fixture was under tension, and if there were overhead decorative lights, these would have been reflected somewhere on the bus surface and/or windows.

Looking at SV images there are a couple of years where overhead decorations were captured. Unfortunately does not included 2013/2014.

There are a few bids and pics that captured the overhead decorations strung across Coventry Street during the Christmas Timeframe. So we can estimate where to look for anchor points on the facades of buildings on either side of the street in vicinity of the bus stand. Two of these anchor points are located above the KFC and this is where decorative lights would have been strung above the area of the Red Bus that appeared in the Q pic. In addition, the anchor fixture captured in that pic provides a reference point to figure the line that would have connected cables to the side of the street that is reflected onto the double decker's shiny panels and windows.

Anons, take a look at the SV images and spot those anchor points. Figure those cable positions. Then scrutinize Red Bus pic for signs of those cables. I have come up short - with one exception.

It is possible that there is a white reflection on on the horizontal surface of the double decker's engine hood. This surface is red but shows more or less bright white. That could be the sheet of decorative lights, unlit, reflecting daylight onto the bus surface. Or it could be a reflection of the W hotel facade which itself is highly reflective.

That horizontal surface on the Q bus roughly shows the same sort of whiteness as other reflections seen on the shiny side panels that clearly captured the white facade of the KFC. The side panels more to the rear of the bus flank shows a blank area that appears to be the dark area of the overhand above the entrance to the Grosvenor Casino; and windows of the building are reflected in the windows of the bus, too.

Ok, those are the references, and based on those, can you locate signs of the overhead decorations?

I am not saying those decorations were NOT there when the Q pic was taken. But it is difficult to establish that the overhead sheets were in place at that time. The single bit of evidence we have within the Q pic is the fixture that is on the building on the other side of the street, visible above the bus roofline above the 3rd window from the front of the bus.

While we might expect the cables to blend-in, since they are thinnish and neutral in colour, we might also expect their presence to be discernible as their paths crossed both light and dark background colours in the Q pic. Surely a viewer would be able to trace a line, even if feint.

So there is some doubt, for me, that the sheets of decorative lights were installed at the time of the Q pic. Yes, we have evidence that such decorations were strung up during the winter of 2013/2014 - and specifically on 31-DEC-2013 as per the Gavin videos. And there is pictorial evidence that these were installed mid November and taken down by mid January that season. The question here for our purposes of dating the Q pic is, can we firmly establish that the overhead sheets hung above the bus in that pic?

FOR REFERENCE: Taking note of still wet condition/appearance of street and sidewalks after midnight when last recorded rainfall on 31DEC2013 was at 2:50pm. Rainfall occurred for 4 hours that day from 11:50 to 2:50pm, 9 hours earlier.

This might be used to eliminate night time Q pics on the 13th which also had 4 hours of recorded rain from 2:50pm to 6:50pm, the last of which occurring 4 hours AFTER the last recorded rain on NYE on which night the ground still being visibly wet. Using this clue, the ground at EMB would also be visibly wet until 4am on the 13th.

15DEC had 8 hours of recorded rain, double that of NYE, from 11am to 7pm. I think this should eliminate this date for the PICCADILLY/Britannia pics as they were taken before sunset when the street lamps were coming on. Also eliminate the RED BUS pic for this date as it appeared from slight shadows to be mid afternoon. (Sunset was approx. 3:50pm.) Possibly eliminating WW on this date due to the 8 hours of rain but, the ground cover being different it might have done better to absorb the rain.

16DEC also had 4 hours of recorded rain from 3:50pm to 7:50pm, the last of which again occurring 4 hours after that recorded on NYE. Again, comparing with NYE still showing wet streets and sidewalks 9 hours after recorded rainfall of 4 hours duration, one could expect on this evening to see wet streets until 5am the next morning in the EMB pics on this evening and, MAYBE an early morning CH pic the next morning.

21DEC had 10 HOURS of recorded rainfall from 6:50am to 4:50pm. This would, using the NYE model for wet streets 9 hours after 4 hours of rain, eliminate this day for PICCADILLY, RED BUS, EMB and likely WW for being soaked.

23DEC had 8 HOURS of rain from 8:50am to 4:50pm, again twice that recorded on NYE, and the last of which recorded 2 hours after that of NYE. So we could logically expect similar wet ground appearance til 2 or 3am the next morning. This day’s rain would exclude RED BUS, PICCADILLY and likely EMB and WW for this evening.

30DEC had 6 HOURS of rain from

6:50am to 12:50pm. The last recorded rain this day is 2 hours before that on NYE, so although it had more rain it could have dried out prior to midnight, so maybe allowing for late evening pics. But the PICCADILLY and RED BUS pics are likely excluded for this date.

31DEC had 4 hours of rain from 10:50am to 2:50pm. This rainfall was evident 9 hours later around midnight. We can deduce that wet conditions would have been visible in the RED BUS and PICCADILLY pics to exclude those on this date. The night pics at EMB and CH this evening would not be excluded by wetness but would certainly be excluded due to expected evidence of NYE celebrations.

I haven’t included the WW lights dates that excluded dates for that location.

By this I meant to say I think it would eliminate EMB and (night) CH pics from 16DEC.

It is impossible to eliminate PICCADILLY(Brittania) pics on this date because the partially lit street lamps shown seem to indicate a time at or very near to sunset which was around 3:50pm; And which time so happens to be the first time indicated for measured rain at 3:50pm.

EMB pics may also be excluded on 15DEC: If there indeed was no rain on NYE around midnight, then a comparison with the wet streets and sidewalks on NYE can be made and one can take note that on the 16th the last recorded rainfall was 4 hours AFTER that recorded on NYE which may allow for damp streets to possibly be observed 4 hours later than those observed on NYE (ie 4am the next morning.) Therefore, this might also eliminate EMB for the evening of 15DEC.

*Unless one still holds open the possibility that EMB could have been taken after 4am.

If true, that would shoot a tremendous hole in the theory of comparing lingering evidence of rain. But the recorded timeframes for rain can still be of use to eliminate dates for some pics if the periods of rain encompass the the suspected times for certain pics. Will be anxious to see vid(s) showing evening rain on NYE.

Well that scuttles the observation re dampness on NYE lasting from 3pm (((“reported”))) rain. I have this funny scene in my head about a ‘weather observer’ working late on NYE, being called away for a New Year’s nip by a co-worker of the opposite sex “Oh the weather’s been ‘passing clouds’ for a hour. Nothing’s gonna change. Let’s have a toast then’l she said. A 45 minutes later he return and guesses a log entry for ‘partly cloudy’ for the previous hour.

Oh well. At least the periods of rain encompassing suspected pic times can still be used to exclude a few days from various pics.

There was one morning that had fog from 6:50am til 1pm that might possibly exclude the morning CH1 pic. But you would have to place it after 6:50am.

The time lapse vid showed traffic/headlamps on EMB after dark. So while there were probally reductions in lane use and indications of pending pedestrian-only restrictions on the streets in the vicinity, the area was still well-used as a thoroughfare up to the few hours before the Event. Would be interesting to extrapolage the vantage point of the camera in this vid which showed The Eye and the crowds on EMB. Does not appear to be low enough nor close enough to have been the footbridge at Hungerford Bridge.

Thanks for posting Gavin’s vids et al. Agree ground is not wet in earlier NYE, then raining around midnight.

Based on that, disregard any EMB and WW exclusions.

I would still say that the PICCADILLY and RED BUS dates mentioned are not based on lingering damp conditions but are rather based on the fact that our suspected times when those pics were taken (RED BUS in afternoon and PICCADILLY at or near sunset which was approx 3:50pm) are bracketed during hours of measured rain. Not after, but during hours of rain.

What about the WW bulbs and rain and closed dates? Did anon want to make a summary report on that digs results for possibly excluded dates? To include dates bulbs are decidedly not matched to the Wild Maus pic, missing light bars, etc.

On the other hand, the attachment to the facade would be a weak point and so the fixing might have been staged prior to the sort of efficient isntallation/teardown that would make much sense on a busy street with so much pedesterian traffic underfoot. Safety might require securing the fixings first?

A chain covered by a flexible rubber cover of sort kind also makes sense. My thought is that same sort of flexibility can be achieved with rubberized products that would be pre-shaped, generally, for this purpose. Not precisely shaped. Stretchable. Kind of tented. Can imagine a heavy cable within the rubber, or set of rienforcements, vulcanized. Even a heavy rubber sleeve would tend to retain the shape intended, I think.

Either way, still left with the lack of visible cables and visible attachment points on the fixing for those cables.

The circled areas on the SV images are the positions of the anchors for the fixings that hold the cables.

The stake in the ground could be in the middle of installation or teardown.

Upbread I posted a darkened contrasty version of the Red Bus pic, so as to allow for the whitish building facade being blown out, but still no visible cables.

An no luck spotting the star and sheet decortion in the mirroring on the bus panels/windows. It would be fantastic to spot that as a more direct confirmation of the presence of the decorations. But absent that confirmation, would we have firm evidence that the decorations were not up at the time the pic was taken?

About the inability to ‘see’ the wires. Even in much closer pics that give us a good view of the attachments it is difficult to make out the wires vs. our grainy pic of an attachment from sidewalk level on the opposite side of the street.

Well, I suppose, that would still be over a kerb, just not at the street but at the bus stand kerb. Think it works out to the same distance up and down Coventry Street.

Right you are, the Q pic is blurry near that fixing.

The SV images are sharper. The camera was closer.

The key, for me, is the contrast especially at the fixing/cable attachments. Also, contrast usually leaves a hint of a line as it passes across different shapes. I do not see even a hint of attachments and lines.

However, the sheets are prolly not within camera shot – re the view over the bus roof. So all we'd have would be the cables which can blend in. Fair enough. And might be too early in day for lights to be lit up so that makes it all the more difficult. Of course in the Gavin vids the cables disappeared in the darkness partially because of the bright lights.

But on the bus stand side? The reflections and the mirrored markers on the bus? That star shaped component would have been hard to randomly blend in even within a blurred image. On that side of the bus the camera was closer, too. That might have been compromised by the reflection and then itself being reflected/mirrored, but something would have popped out due to contrast alone, I think.

What makes us think the attachments are not part of the decorations? Remove just the two nuts and the whole of it comes away. They’ve done this thing numerous times. They know the measurements of each wire I’ll wager. Should they drastically change the design of the star or snowflake, they still know how long each wire must be. They may even have means of taking up slack after attachment.

In sum, looks like we still have the same time interval we have been stuck with for some time now.

The overhead decorations went up mid-Nov 2013 and came down mid-Jan 2014. That's not a bad interval; before this we had late-Oct/early-Nov 2013 based on the bus stand sign; and 20-MAR-2014 based on reconstruction of the builidng across the street. The decoration fixing in Q pic narrowed the interval by about half a month NOT BEFORE bookend and about two months on the NOT AFTER bookend.

That interval matches up with the other London Pics (except the black box pic) so all is well. UK Anons are ambitious on this dig so if we can narrow the time interval for any one pic, or any single set of pics, then, given the synchronicity across the London Pics, we might infer a narrowing across the batch of them.

Those different means sof adjusting tension on the cables woud have come in handy during installation and also during the weeks the decorations stayed up – as well as during teardown and later storage (temporary while moving and longterm). System was prolly also used during fabrication of the components.

Anyway, this zig-zag system was not in use on Coventry in 2009, 2011, 2012, but did appear in 2013/2014 and thereafter. Can imagine a different method of setup was used the first time or two and then lessons were learned.
