UK paid $74m in alleged bribes to Saudi to secure lucrative arms deal

The British government approved up to £60 million ($74 million) in alleged bribes to Saudi Arabia as part of a huge arms deal over many decades and sought to conceal the payments through a controversial arrangement described as "deniable fiddle", a UK court was told yesterday. The "fiddle" involves paying bribes to Saudi officials using private contractors in order to secure major arms deal.

The case, which is being held at Southwark Crown Court, relates to a UK government arms deal to provide communications services to the Saudi Arabian National Guard. The services were delivered by a private contractor, British firm GPT, a now defunct unit of Airbus.

According to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), which began an investigation into the payments, millions of dollars of alleged bribes were paid to Saudi royals to ensure that GPT received lucrative contracts from the Saudi military. GPT however claims that it was not aware that payments made by the company were intended as bribes to secure the deal.

Jeffrey Cook, former managing director of GPT, and John Mason, former financial officer at two of GPT's subcontractors, are accused of paying £9.7 million ($11.9 million) in bribes to Saudi officials between 2007 and 2012.

The arrangement of the payment structure allowing for the concealment of alleged bribery, however, is said to date back to the late 1970s. Described as a "fiddle", the arrangement enabled members of the Saudi royal family and the British government to "deny having any knowledge of [the payments] at all", the jury at the Crown Court were told.

Opening the defence on behalf of Cook, Ian Winter QC told the court that some of the payments were made to the then Prince Abdullah, who later became the Saudi monarch for a decade. King Abdullah died in 2015 and was succeeded by his younger brother King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Winter also told the court that internal documents recorded that the British government and Abdullah organised "a deniable fiddle" to hide the payments. The British government had not "merely acquiesced or tolerated those payments" but "the Ministry of Defence actually required those payments to be made," said Winter.

According to Winter, members of the Saudi Arabian National Guard had made it "abundantly clear" in negotiations with senior UK government officials over the award of the contract that the payments were part of the deal. "It was therefore a contractual requirement that these payments be made in this way or the contract would go elsewhere to somebody who was prepared to [pay them]," Winter argued.

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, expressed his fierce opposition on Monday to the US-mediated talks aimed at settling a maritime border dispute between Lebanon and Israel — in particular lashing out at Washington’s Israeli-born envoy to the negotiations, Amos Hochstein.

Longtime foes Israel and Lebanon have been engaged in US-led talks over the past year aimed at demarcating offshore exclusive economic zones.

The disputed area, hundreds of square miles wide, is thought to contain large deposits of natural gas, a potential game-changer for Lebanon, which is mired in a devastating economic crisis.

“I am saying to the Lebanese state: If you want to continue negotiating, go ahead, but not in Naqoura, and not with Hochstein, Frankenstein, or any other Stein coming to Lebanon,” the terror chief said in an address to the Lebanese government.

“The path of negotiations, and especially via the conspiring, collaborating, and dishonest American broker who supports Israel, will not lead us to any results.”

Nasrallah’s statements appeared to contradict reports earlier this year that he had given the green light to the talks.

Musk says he’d reverse Trump’s Twitter ban

Elon Musk said Tuesday that he will reverse former President Trump’s ban from Twitter if his acquisition of the platform is completed.

“I think it was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme,” said Musk, the CEO of Tesla, while speaking at the Financial Times’s “Future of the Car” event.

“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake,” he added. “It alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

Twitter permanently banned Trump shortly after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, saying that the then-president’s posts on the platform could encourage more violence.

Musk and Twitter agreed to a deal for the Tesla CEO to buy all outstanding shares of the company in a deal worth roughly $44 billion late last month.

Some civil society groups warned early on that Musk’s purchase of the platform could mean Trump’s return given the tech billionaire’s stated commitment to free speech absolutism.

Trump said shortly after Musk’s deal to buy Twitter was confirmed that he would not return to the platform even if invited back on.

The former president, who boasted over 80 million followers on Twitter, has said that he will instead stay on the social media platform launched by his media company, Truth Social.

Trump has recently become more active on that platform, sharing “truths” with his 2.66 million followers there.

Despite his promises to stay on Truth Social, however, the allure of the reach offered by Twitter, where Trump frequently sparred with critics and boosted misinformation about the 2020 election and COVID-19, could convince the former president to make a return.

The first-degree murder charge comes after authorities recently charged Tubbs in connection to a 2019 robbery

Hannah Tubbs, a transgender California inmate convicted of molesting a child, has been charged with murder.

The first-degree murder charge out of Kern County on Tuesday comes after authorities recently charged Tubbs in connection to a 2019 robbery.

The suspect is being held on $1 million bond and is set to appear in court for an arraignment hearing on Tuesday afternoon, according to Kern County documents.

No further information about the murder charge was available as of Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for District Attorney George Gascon's office previously told Fox News that Los Angeles officials will be notified if Tubbs is released from custody in Kern County.

"District Attorney George Gascón is committed to protecting the public and especially our children. In this case, Hannah Tubbs continues to serve her Los Angeles County sentence, while being prosecuted on an unrelated robbery charge in Kern County," Ricardo Santiago, a public information officer for the DAs office said. "Her transfer was based on a 2019 warrant and approved by a court."

Tubbs became the center of controversy earlier this year when she pleaded guilty in connection with a 2014 assault on a young girl inside a Denny's restaurant bathroom when she was just weeks from turning 18. Prosecutors said Tubbs grabbed the girl by the throat, locked her in a stall, and put her hand down the girl’s pants.

Tubbs pleaded guilty to the attack last month, though the incident took place when Tubbs was two weeks shy of 18 and identified as a male named James Edward Tubbs. When authorities arrested Tubbs roughly eight years after the crime, the suspect, who has since been convicted of child molestation, began identifying as a woman, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors sentenced Tubbs to two years at a juvenile facility because Gascon’s office declined to transfer the case to adult court, adhering to one of the progressive prosecutor’s day-one directives barring "children" from being tried as adults. The convicted criminal could, however, still as little as six months under California law and may not be required to register as a sex offender.

Russian ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov stormed out of the Knesset plenum after Knesset members attacked Russia for its invasion of Ukraine during Victory Day celebrations in the Israeli parliament, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, one of the MKs who attacked Russia in the plenum was Yisrael Beytenu's Ukrainian-born Evgeny Sova, who called Russia's war on Ukraine a "slap in the face for our grandparents who fought the Nazis."

The ambassador reportedly quickly left the plenum after several MKs began speaking on the ongoing war in eastern Europe and claiming Russia is committing war crimes on Ukrainian soil.

Diplomatic ties between Russia and Israel have gradually deteriorated since President Vladimir Putin launched his "special military operation" in February.

Israel, which was pressured by the Western world led by the United States to join it in imposing economic sanctions and condemnations on the Kremlin, has attempted to remain neutral throughout the conflict, with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett initially taking a mediator role, during which he became one of the only world leaders to meet with Putin in Russia after the war began.

Russia to help Belarus build missiles – Lukashenko

The Belarusian president says Minsk wants a weapon similar to Russia’s Iskander

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Tuesday that his country will build a new missile system with Moscow’s help.

Speaking at a meeting with military officials, Lukashenko said he had been promised “full support” from Moscow in the development of a missile similar to those used in Russia’s Iskander short-range ballistic missile systems.

He added that the matter was discussed last month during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos.

“In my presence, President [Putin] told Rogozin to provide immediate support, so we wouldn’t build it from scratch but instead could use the experience of Russian missile experts who had built the Iskander.”

Lukashenko said he had struck a deal with Moscow to purchase Iskander missiles, noting that Belarus would “keep” the Russian S-400 air defense missile system currently stationed in the country.

Iskander missiles are launched from mobile launchers and can strike targets at a range of up to 500km (310 miles). Russia has used the missiles in Syria and, most recently, during its military campaign in Ukraine.

The S-400 is one of the most advanced long-range air defense systems in the world, and is produced by Russian company Almaz-Antey. According to the specifications, it can hit targets at a range of up to 400km, depending on the type of missile.

Leonid Kravchuk, 88, passed away after a long illness, Ukrainian media reported

Leonid Makarovich Kravchuk, the first president of the post-Soviet Ukraine, has passed away at the age of 88.

Kravchuk died on Tuesday afternoon “after a long illness,” his family told the Ukrainian News Agency. The former president was hospitalized in June 2021 and placed in intensive care after heart surgery.

Born in the western Ukrainian region of Rovno, Kravchuk joined the Communist Party of Ukraine in 1958 and rose through the ranks of the propaganda department. In 1990, he became the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. He became the acting president of Ukraine in August 1991, after the Supreme Rada in Kiev adopted the Ukrainian constitution – and was formally elected on December 5, 1991.

Just three days later, he met with Russian President Boris Yeltsin and Belarusian parliament chair Stanislav Shushkevich at a dacha in Belarus, and signed the infamous Belovezh Accords that dissolved the Soviet Union. Shushkevich passed away earlier this month, at age 87. Yeltsin died in 2007.

Kravchuk lost the re-election race to Leonid Kuchma in 1994, but remained active in politics, first as an independent member of the Rada and then representing the Social Democratic Party (United) between 1998 and 2006, when he retired.

In 2020, Kravchuk was appointed head of Ukraine’s “contact group” for negotiating the peaceful solution for the Donbass conflict – replacing Kuchma, who had held the post since 2014.

Prison riot kills dozens, over 100 escape

One of the gangs involved in the clash in Ecuador is known to be responsible for casualties in another prison

(And they are probably coming to the US border)

The latest in a spate of prison riots in Ecuador has left 44 inmates dead and more than a hundred still at large, the country’s Interior Ministry confirmed on Monday.

According to the ministry’s head, Patricio Carrillo, the tragedy at the Bellavista prison in Santo Domingo, a province located to the west of the capital city of Quito, resulted from a fight between inmates from two rival gangs: Los Lobos, which was involved in a recent riot at another prison near the city of Cuenca, and R7.

Most of the deaths resulted from stab wounds, Carrillo said. He did not rule out that the number of casualties might increase as several people were severely injured. Initially, the authorities had spoken of 41 deaths but by Tuesday the number had increased to 44.

All of the bodies are expected to be transferred to relatives on Tuesday.

Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso responded to the news by saying that his country “will not give in to the mafias.”

“Our commitment to restore order in prisons is firm. An example of this is the actions by the Interior Ministry and Ecuador Police which conducted an immediate transfer of 6 leaders of criminal gangs,” he said.

The gang leaders were transferred to two separate maximum-security prisons. According to Carrillo, 112 inmates have been recaptured while 108 are still at large.

Over the last few years, Ecuador has seen a significant increase in prison incidents. In 2021, at least 316 inmates were killed in separate prison riots.

This past April, meanwhile, 20 casualties were reported following a clash at the Turi prison, near the city of Cuenca.

The government has cited an increase in drug trafficking as among the factors contributing to the rise in violence in the country’s penitentiaries, although overcrowding in prisons remains a significant problem, even despite an increase in investment by the state

Last November, in yet another attempt to address the issue, Lasso granted pardons to several categories of inmates. This decision came a few days after the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights issued a strongly-worded statement urging the Ecuadorian authorities “to take immediate, effective measures to protect the rights to life and personal integrity of all individuals in State custody.”

Ecuador’s 65 prisons house around 39,000 inmates but have stated capacity for only 30,000.

The Bellavista prison has capacity for 1,200 inmates but currently houses 1,700.

7-Year-Old Boy Dies from Heart Attack After Pfizer Injection

On 16 February 2022, a 7-year-old boy in Seattle Washington died from a heart attack with blood clots in his coronary artery and liver. He died 13 days after being injected with a Pfizer “vaccine.”

Sanctions hurt US more than Russia – poll

Most Americans focused on economic woes at home, more than two in five of respondents indifferent to Ukraine's fate

A new poll has found that 53% of Americans believe that sanctions on Moscow hurt the US more than Russia. Amid soaring gas prices and rising living costs, voters are losing confidence in US President Joe Biden’s leadership, and 43% say they’re “OK” with Ukraine losing its ongoing conflict with Russia.

With inflation at a 40-year peak and gas prices near record highs, the Democracy Institute/Express.co.uk poll revealed that Biden is polling negatively in all policy areas, with foreign policy the worst. Some 56% disapprove of his handling of foreign matters, compared to 40% approving. On Ukraine specifically, only 38% approve of his stewardship, while 52% disapprove.

The Biden administration has attempted to blame Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, for the rising cost of living at home, with his officials repeatedly referring to “Putin’s price hike.” However, living costs were rising for months before Russia sent troops into Ukraine, and voters are pointing the finger at Biden for their economic woes.

Some 50% said they’d back Republicans in November’s midterm elections, compared with 42% saying they’d vote Democrat. In addition to more voters being “OK” than “not OK” with Ukraine losing the conflict with Russia (43%-41%), a majority of Americans think it would be better for Biden to leave office than for Putin to step down, by 53% to 44%.

Biden has sanctioned the Russian banking and energy sectors, and his administration has sent nearly $4 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin promising last month to “move heaven and earth” to finance Kiev’s fighting. The US president has also asked Congress to approve another $33 billion aid package for Ukraine – of which $20 billion would be earmarked for military aid – and on Monday signed the Lend-Lease Act of 2022, allowing Washington to send unlimited quantities of arms to Kiev.

In the eyes of the Kremlin, this deluge of weapons plus the US and NATO’s intelligence-sharing arrangements with Kiev mean that the West is “essentially going to war with Russia through a proxy.”

American voters, however, are not as earnest as the Biden administration in fuelling this war. According to the latest poll, they consider Russia the fourth biggest threat to the US at 16%, behind North Korea (18%), Iran (20%), and China (40%).

Millions of UK homes face no heat this winter, power chief warns

Scottish Power CEO warned that rising gas prices could drive energy bills to nearly £3,000 in October

Scottish Power CEO Keith Anderson told the Daily Mail on Monday that with gas prices skyrocketing in the wake of the conflict in Ukraine and Western sanctions on Russia, household energy bills could rise to £2,900 ($3,576) by October. With some 10 million UK homes potentially unable to afford heating, Anderson called on the government to set up a support scheme.

British households have already seen their energy costs – including electricity and heating – rise by £700 between October and April, and that increase is expected to accelerate, Anderson warned.

“It will hit incredibly hard and immediately,” said Anderson, whose company supplies electricity to parts of Scotland, England, and Wales. “If nothing else happens by October, I think we will see a huge increase in pre-payment customers in effect self disconnecting – not reloading their pre-payment meter because they can’t afford to do it.”

“We will also see a massive increase in debt levels for direct debit customers, and a massive increase in people being pushed from direct debits to prepayment meters so that companies can recover the debt,” he continued. “We are heading to a really horrible place where none of us want to be.”

While Scottish Power owns and operates two wind farms, the majority of the UK’s power comes from oil, gas, and coal. Just a fifth of the country’s energy is obtained from low-carbon sources, including wind, solar, and nuclear.

Anderson blamed the spike in household costs on a worldwide spike in wholesale gas prices, exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine. The UK has also voluntarily cut itself off from Russian oil and gas imports, and leaders in Europe are working toward a phased cutoff from Russian energy too.

The energy boss called on lawmakers to set up a support scheme for struggling households. Consumers have already received a £150 ($185) council tax rebate this month and will be offered a £200 ($246) loan in October. However, ”consumer groups and industry leaders” cited by the Daily Mail say that this will not be enough to “protect millions from facing a choice between heating and eating.”

Some have already sought out alternate sources of heat, with catastrophic results. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said on Monday that its officers responded to 100 house fires involving open fireplaces, log burners and heaters in recent months. “The Brigade fears that costly energy bills could result in a surge of fires as people resort to alternative means to heat their homes,” the LFB warned in a statement.

Aside from energy, the cost of food, clothing and transportation has risen across the UK, and the Bank of England warned last week that inflation would soon hit 10%. Looks Like Facebook Is Fact-Checking Pro-Life Memes Now

On Saturday, activist Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., shared a pro-life meme that tells people their grandmothers carried part of them inside their wombs, and Facebook’s fact-checkers flagged that meme.

Here’s what the meme says:

This is so amazing.. Did you know that your grandmother carried part of you inside her womb? But how? Well. a female fetus is born with all the eggs she will ever have in her lifetime. So when your Grandmother was carrying your Mother in her womb. you were a tiny egg in your Mother’s ovaries, The three of you have been connected for a very long time. Women are amazing!

Alveda King called it an “amazing fact,” but Facebook insisted it was not and flagged the meme. According to Facebook’s “independent” fact-checkers, the meme is “missing context.”

Facebook relied on fact-checking from a site called Factly, which insists that the claim “is not unanimously accepted in the scientific community.”

“Though it was widely believed to be true, some recent research gives a possibility of ovaries growing new eggs though the research is not yet 100% definitive about the statement,” Factly states. “There is no conclusive evidence that new eggs are produced, yet from recent research, a possible ovarian stem cell reserve is disputed among scientists.”

Bizarrely, Factly even cites the Cleveland Clinic on this issue. Here’s what they say on the matter:

During fetal life, there are about 6 million to 7 million eggs. From this time, no new eggs are produced. At birth, there are approximately 1 million eggs; and by the time of puberty, only about 300,000 remain. Of these, only 300 to 400 will be ovulated during a woman’s reproductive lifetime. Fertility can drop as a woman ages due to decreasing number and quality of the remaining eggs.

U.S. Code § 1507 states that “any individual who “pickets or parades” with the “intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer” near a federal court or “near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge, juror, witness, or court officer (emphasis mine)” will be fined, or “imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”

It’s no surprise that Joe Biden’s Department of Justice hasn’t lifted a finger to arrest anyone obviously trying to interfere with a Supreme Court decision. It’s also not particularly surprising that Joe Biden’s U.S. Marshals Service hasn’t been tasked with protecting the homes of conservative justices who are under threat.

But the biggest non-surprise of all is that Biden doing nothing about prominent Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) all but encouraging and justifying violence against the justices.

Fox News:

“While we have seen and heard extraordinary anguish in our communities,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said, “we have been moved by how so many have channeled their righteous anger into meaningful action: planning to march and mobilize to make their voices heard.”

In the statement, Pelosi also attacked Republicans and the Supreme Court over the expected ruling, and says that Democrats will “fight relentlessly to enshrine Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.”

“Righteous anger,” indeed.

“Republicans have made clear that their goal will be to seek to criminalize abortion nationwide,” Pelosi said. “Republican state legislators across the country are already advancing extreme new laws, seeking to arrest doctors for offering reproductive care, ban abortion entirely with no exceptions, and even charge women with murder who exercise their right to choose.”

None of those proposals have passed in any state legislature. Pelosi is dancing with strawmen to gin up outrage against the justices. And given the hysteria that Pelosi and other Democrats are generating against the justices, any such rhetorical incendiary devices could motivate some radical left crackpot to attempt to give Biden a few more Supreme Court picks.

Brazil refused to raise crude output when asked by Washington, Reuters says

The US asked Brazil in March to increase its crude oil output to curb soaring prices amid international sanctions against Russia, but Brazil refused, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

US government officials approached Brazil’s state-run oil company Petrobras, the outlet quoted its sources as saying, as crude prices started to rise against the backdrop of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and the ensuing international sanctions.

The officials came away empty-handed, however, as Petrobras said that output levels were determined by business strategy rather than diplomacy and also that a significant short-term production boost would not be logistically possible, Reuters says.

Brazil is the world’s 11th largest oil exporter, with most of its crude going to China, the US, and India, according to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC).

Also in March, the US approached Venezuela, which has the world’s largest proven oil reserves, offering to ease some of the sanctions on the country in exchange for increased oil exports to the US. However, Washington later backtracked on the issue.

Washington banned the import of Russian oil in early March, with US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm saying that the country was on “war footing,” and calling on domestic producers to boost output. Last year, the US got 8% of its total petroleum imports from Russia, according to the US Energy Information Administration, with other major suppliers being Canada, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia.

New UK Government Data Shows the COVID Vaccines Kill More People Than They Save

I’ve been asking everyone: Show me the all-cause mortality data proving the vaccines are safe. I finally got some data. It’s from the UK government and it’s devastating. REALLY devastating.

Overview

New UK government data allows us to analyze the data in a way we couldn’t before. This new analysis shows clearly that the COVID vaccines kill more people than they save for all age groups. In other words, they shouldn’t be used by anyone. The younger you are, the less sense it makes.

Anyone can validate the data and methodology. The results make it clear that the COVID vaccines should be halted immediately.

If the vaccines really work, then why hasn’t any government anywhere in the world produced a proper risk-benefit analysis that shows the opposite result?

If the vaccines work, then why do all the lines in Figure 6 below show that Dose 1 and Dose 2 of the vaccines kill more people than they save?

Not a single public health authority in any country will have a conversation with us on the record to justify their vaccine recommendations by producing an all-cause risk benefit analysis similar to what I computed here. I wonder why?

What the data shows

Here’s the result of the analysis comparing unvaxxed vs. 2 doses given at least 6 months ago. I believe this analysis is conservative and the actual numbers are worse than this due to the seasonal variation of the all-cause mortality.

The data showed that for most age ranges, the vaccine reduced your chance of dying from COVID, but it increased your chances of dying from other causes. The former effect was smaller than the latter effect so the vaccines are nonsensical.

For example, if you are 25 years old, the vaccine kills 15 people for every person it saves from dying from COVID. Below 80, the younger you are, the more nonsensical vaccination is.

The cells in Figure 1 with a * means that the vaccinated had more COVID deaths than the unvaccinated. This is known as “negative vaccine efficacy.” This wasn’t surprising since we’ve been claiming that the vaccines damage your immune system.

Above 80, the UK data was too confounded to be useful. Until we have that data, it’s irresponsible to make a recommendation.

I describe below how you can compute this yourself from the UK data.

Please share this result on all your social media platforms. One user got 10,000 likes in less than 24 hours on Twitter and he had only 2,000 followers. So Twitter permanently suspended his account. According to Twitter, “health officials consider the COVID-19 vaccines safe for most people” and therefore any UK government data that shows that they are lying is a violation of Twitter Community Standards.
