CIA Urges Officers Not to Underestimate Foreign Spy Agencies as Informant Networks Collapse - Report

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) admitted in a rare agency-wide cable that it’s suffered a severe problem of losing informants in recent years, urging its stations around the globe to pay more attention to the counterintelligence efforts of other nations.

The top secret cable, described to the New York Times by “people familiar with the matter,” warned that a large number of CIA informants had either been killed, arrested or otherwise compromised over the last several years.

According to the sources, the cable accused CIA officers of placing “mission over security” by being too quick to trust new sources and moving too quickly to recruit them, while at the same time underestimating the spycraft of rival intelligence agencies. The Times noted Langley’s cable gave a specific number of informants lost - a rare moment of transparency intended to highlight the seriousness of the situation.

Biometric scans, facial recognition technology, artificial intelligence and improved hacking tools were all mentioned as new challenges for the CIA to overcome, which had made it easier to track the movements of CIA officers and to uncover their sources’ identities.

Experts have long called attention to the CIA’s technology shortcomings. John Reidy, a former government contractor, called attention to what he described as a “catastrophic failure” in a 2006 report. “Upwards of 70% of our operations had been compromised,” he told McClatchy in 2015; still, the CIA fired him rather than address the problem.

According to Yahoo News, that system came crashing down between 2009 and 2013, after Iranian counterintelligence experts cracked the CIA’s extremely simple internet communications system and figured out how to identify the websites the agency used to lure potential informants into contact with CIA officers. Using little more than a simple Google search, Tehran was able to destroy an entire CIA information network in the country. Once the information was shared with China, at least two dozen CIA operatives were killed.

Merck’s Game Changing Antiviral for COVID

Effective and safe??? HIV antiretroviral drugs were thought to be safe as well based on similar studies like the one discussed here by Dr. Campbell. However, concurrent with the use of these drugs in HIV patients, we saw the emergence of HIV associated dementia (HAD) with neuropathological features similar to Alzheimer’s disease, such as beta amyloid deposits in the brain. The conventional explanation has been that because these drugs have poor penetration to the brain, the HIV would increase replication in the brain and that virus was the primary cause of HAD.

However, it was discovered (~2006) that these HIV antiretroviral drugs increase beta amyloid production in the same human cell based models used in Alzheimer’s research. I know this because I coauthored the first research paper reporting these effects of HIV antiretroviral drugs. Unfortunately, NIH was not enthusiastic about funding in further investigation into the possibility that these drugs were causing the dementia as opposed to HIV.

I mention this to raise the possibility that these new oral antivirals being rolled out by Big Pharma for COVID likely have off target toxic effects that are not readily apparent in these short term studies. After all, many of these drugs like remdesivir were originally developed for other viruses (eg Ebola) and failed. Thus, it is unlikely that any of these “new” drugs were specifically developed for COVID.

Although the same can be said of HCQ, ivermectin, and quercetin in terms of their reported antiviral properties against COVID, a major difference is these ladder therapeutic agents have far more data in far larger sample sizes demonstrating safety and efficacy clinically than these newer drugs being developed by Big Pharma.

The only thing really “game changing” about the new Merck drug is that the crony capitalism that favors billion dollar block buster profits over saving human life is now the huge elephant in the room under a spot light that everyone can see. The real challenge now for the future of Big Pharma is figuring out how to make this huge elephant disappear. Not likely IMO 😎

Supreme Court nixes challenge to Trump's border wall funding, tells lower court to 'vacate its judgments' and reconsider

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered a lower court to "vacate its judgments" against a Trump administration plan to use billions of dollars in diverted Department of Defense funds to construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The order involves the use of $3.6 billion in diverted Pentagon funds for border wall construction initially prescribed by former President Donald Trump under a national emergency declaration after efforts stalled to secure congressional funding for the project. The move prompted fury and legal challenges from environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Those environmental groups went on to win in lower courts. But when the Trump administration appealed the matter to the Supreme Court, the top court ordered that construction could continue while the case made its way through the legal system.

Then, President Joe Biden took office and circumstances dramatically changed. Biden ended the policy of diverting military funds to border wall construction by executive order, instead transferring the funds toward other military projects.

Responding to the changes, the Supreme Court decided Monday to remand previous rulings to lower courts and ordered them to relitigate the issue.

"The judgment is vacated, and the case is remanded to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit with instructions to direct the district court to vacate its judgments," the Supreme Court wrote. "The district court should consider what further proceedings are necessary and appropriate in light of the changed circumstances in this case."

Law360 noted that "the justices' one-paragraph ruling did not provide a detailed rationale for vacating the Ninth Circuit ruling that had barred the funding redirection, beyond pointing to the 'changed circumstances' in the case."

While the court order appears on the surface to be a major blow to the Biden administration, the legal blog noted the administration "had sought precisely this outcome." Relitigation could allow the federal government to push back against earlier rulings that limited executive power.

The Hill reported that the decision also "tees up another stage of the battle for border wall challengers who argue Biden must remediate the damage from the construction of the wall."

In a statement to the news outlet, Dror Ladin, senior staff attorney at the ACLU's National Security Project, said: "Today's order comes after the government conceded that the Trump wall was wasteful and destructive, and returns the case to the district court so that Sierra Club and the Southern Border Communities Coalition can seek relief for the damage the wall has already inflicted."

Proponents of Trump's plan for border wall funding likely hope that relitigation will result in a better outcome for the wall's continued construction.

Far Left Facebook Whistleblower Frances Haugen Working with Trump Impeachment Lawyers

Frances Haugen, the former Facebook employee who testified before the Senate commerce committee today, has a history of left-wing activism and is working with the same lawyer who represented the alleged Ukraine whistleblower who sparked the second bogus Trump impeachment.

Haugen testified before the Senate Commerce Committee today after getting the celebrity treatment from the establishment media, including a full-length interview on 60 Minutes.

Haugen, unlike other Facebook whistleblowers who have been ignored by the media, has called for more censorship of the platform, not less — and, according to her remarks at the hearing today, wants the government to step in to make it happen.
