A summit of G20 foreign affairs and development ministers begins today in Matera, Italy.

Blinken Meets with Pope, Italian Officials

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited the Vatican on Monday to meet with Pope Francis and other officials with climate change, human rights and human trafficking among the topics of discussion. Facebook Soars Past $1 Trillion Market Cap After District Judge Dismisses FTC's Anti-Trust Case

Facebook stock soared to a new record high after a District judge dismissed two antitrust cases filed by the federal government and a coalition of states.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in Washington on Monday granted Facebook’s request to dismiss the complaints filed last year by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general led by New York’s Letitia James. According to Boasberg's opinion, the FTC didn't offer enough details to show that Facebook has a monopoly for social networking services. As Bloomberg notes, with the ruling, Facebook has escaped the most significant regulatory threat to its business to emerge out of the wider crackdown on U.S. technology giants. The decision also delivers a blow to the FTC and the states, which claimed Facebook violated antitrust laws by buying photo-sharing app Instagram and messaging service WhatsApp in order to cut off emerging competitive threats and protect its monopoly.

Boasberg’s decision to toss the Facebook complaints shows the hurdles U.S. antitrust enforcers face in trying to take on the internet giants. Officials on their own can’t break up companies or impose other remedies, but instead must persuade judges to take action. The process can take years. Facebook stock surged more than 3% on the news, sending the stock to a new all time high. and pushing the company's market cap above $1 trillion for the first time ever, where FB joins the other quatro comas FAAMG club members.

S&P Global cuts India's growth forecasts, trims EM overall

S&P Global cut its growth forecasts for some of Asia’s top economies including India, the Philippines and Malaysia on Monday, offsetting upgrades to China and South Africa and much of Latin America.

The estimates, which feed into S&P’s closely-followed sovereign ratings, saw India’s growth projection chopped to 9.5% from 11% due to its COVID-19 outbreak, the Philippines’ lowered to 6% from 7.9% and Malaysia’s downgraded to 4.1% from 6.2%. In contrast, China’s forecast was nudged up to 8.3% from 8%, Brazil’s was hoisted to 4.7% from 3.4%, Mexico’s to 5.8% from 4.9% while those of South Africa, Poland and Russia were lifted to 4.2%, 4.5% and 3.7%, respectively, from 3.6%, 3.4% and 3.3%.

“The top risk facing emerging market economies (EMs) is a slower-than-expected rollout of the vaccines,” S&P’s economists said in new report, adding that the pandemic would only subside once vaccinations “reach a level consistent with herd immunity”. In Asia’s emerging economies, vaccines are currently being administered at a rate of 0.2 doses per 100 people per day. At this rate, S&P estimated it would take another 23 months for 70% of EM Asia’s population to be fully vaccinated. The second big risk facing emerging economies, it said, was if strong U.S. growth and inflation cause an early tightening of U.S. monetary policy which then pushes up the dollar and makes servicing debt denominated in the U.S. currency more costly.

“While EM policymakers can’t control U.S. inflation dynamics and the policy response, they can implement measures to influence domestic growth. In the context of the current pandemic, a key measure is stepping up vaccinations,” S&P said.

Cruise Shares Tumble; Disney Delays Tuesday’s Trial Sailing

Cruise stocks fell after industry-leader Carnival Corp. announced an additional stock sale and Walt Disney Co. delayed a trial sailing.

Carnival is selling as much as $500 million in stock, according to a filing Monday, with proceeds earmarked for the repurchase of its Carnival Plc shares and for general corporate purposes.

Carnival Corp. said Monday morning that it may sell up to $500 million in stock from time to time as part of an at-the-money equity offering program. The cruise company would use the proceeds from this stock offering to purchase ordinary shares of Carnival plc and may use any remaining proceeds for general corporate purposes. Carnival said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it would sell shares through the offering only when shares of Carnival plc in the U.K. were trading at a discount to Carnival Corp.'s common stock. The announcement comes after Carnival disclosed last week that it expects a $2.1 billion net loss for the second quarter on a GAAP basis and that 42 ships from eight of the company's brands had either resumed operations or were planning to by Nov. 30. Shares are down 4.8% in Monday morning trading. They've gained 70% over the past 12 months as the S&P 500 has risen 42%.

Clarence Thomas says federal pot laws ‘may no longer be necessary’

Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Monday issued a blistering dissent arguing that federal marijuana prohibition may no longer make sense.

Although the dissent doesn’t immediately change anything, it could become significant if its reasoning inspires lower-level judges to strike down laws that make marijuana illegal.

Thomas wrote that tolerance for state-level pot legalization created a “half-in, half-out regime” and a “contradictory and unstable state of affairs” that “strains basic principles of federalism and conceals traps for the unwary.”

Thomas attached his opinion to a court case dealing with whether a medical marijuana dispensary in Colorado, Standing Akimbo Medical Dispensary, could deduct business expenses before paying federal taxes. State-legal pot companies can’t deduct expenses because the drug remains federally illegal.

Thomas wrote, however, that tolerance for state-level pot legalization means that “[a] prohibition on intrastate use or cultivation of marijuana may no longer be necessary or proper to support the Federal Government’s piecemeal approach.”

The other eight justices didn’t justify their decision to turn down the case, leaving a lower court ruling against the business in place. But Thomas broadly attacked the “disjuncture” on federal policy beyond the tax dispute.

“Many marijuana-related businesses operate entirely in cash because federal law prohibits certain financial institutions from knowingly accepting deposits from or providing other bank services to businesses that violate federal law. Cash-based operations are understandably enticing to burglars and robbers,” Thomas wrote.

“But, if marijuana-related businesses, in recognition of this, hire armed guards for protection, the owners and the guards might run afoul of a federal law that imposes harsh penalties for using a firearm in furtherance of a ‘drug trafficking crime.’ A marijuana user similarly can find himself a federal felon if he just possesses a firearm. Or petitioners and similar businesses may find themselves on the wrong side of a civil suit under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.”

Since 2012, 18 states, two US territories and Washington, DC, have legalized recreational pot use and voters in a 19th state — South Dakota — voted for legalization, but the referendum is tied up in court.

Audit Counts Will NOT Be Released Today – Auditors TRIPLE Check Evidence – Coliseum to Be Cleared by Wednesday — OAN REPORT

The Arizona Audit started to pack up tables and vacate the coliseum floor this weekend but it appears that the audit team is still performing quality control checks and thoroughly rechecking their evidence.

Senate leader Karen Fann and audit officials are expected to release a statement as early as this week.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Karen Fann would not be releasing a preliminary report on Monday but that does not look likely at this point.

OAN’s Christina Bobb delivered an amazing report Monday morning live from the coliseum.

The audit team continues to wrap up and prepare their evacuation from the coliseum by Wednesday.

Before leaving and returning the evidence, auditors are still performing quality control and a handful of extra checks to ensure their data is accurate.

Karen Fann insists that they are not in a rush to release any information. The forensic audit is about accuracy.

Volunteers are checking to ensure that the totals are correct with volunteer observers providing overwatch for each counter.

As you can see, pallets of boxes have been moved to one side of the stadium and are organized in numerical order. The pallets have also been organized in the same fashion they were delivered, with the same boxes.

We did not receive a preliminary statement today on the accuracy of certified election results. The senate is currently occupied with hearings on the floor, attempting to pass election integrity bills and a conservative budget.

If the results showed an accurate election, they would likely make an announcement today. The audit team appears to be reviewing their work until the very end to guarantee that they have concrete evidence in court.

Christina said that it would be easy for them to deliver a report that says the election was accurate but not accurate is a harder statement. She does hope to see something from the Senate early this week.

Everything will be moved out by Wednesday.

The forensic analysis report is also expected to come out in early August. They will check to see if there were any fraudulent ballots cast, switching of votes, deleted databases.

Another pattern to watch out for is how many ballots were only filled in with a vote for president and no down-ballot races. If there were thousands of ballots with a vote for only President, that could indicate fraud.

Hopefully, early this week we will have a statement from the Arizona Senate. It looks like they are preparing to make history with this extensive forensic audit of the Maricopa County ballots.

List: Damage Holder And Lynch Did Was MUCH WORSE Than Feared

We already knew that neither Loretta Lynch nor Eric Holder were Attorneys General who would actually hold up the laws as they should. That was clear during Fast and Furious. It was also clear when Lynch “secretly” met with Bill Clinton on a tarmac to discuss their “grandchildren.”

It seems that no one really knew how bad Holder and Lynch were until now. It has been discovered that some of the insane laws that are being changed in some states to make life easier for criminals (and worse for law-abiding citizens) were actually pushed thanks to the Department of Justice under Obama.

Ace of Spades caught this and published a list of all the things that were changed in various states because of a push from Democrats, especially the top guns at the DOJ. This list is absolutely horrifying:

(11) Washington DC Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier resigned because criminals were being arrested, released, and arrested again the same day.

(12) “D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier leaves her post in two weeks with high popularity and crime down over her tenure but frustrated by a system that she said allows repeat violent offenders back on the street time after time.”

(13) Federal authorities decide who stays in jail in DC. Under pressure from Holder and Lynch, they were releasing everyone.

(14) The crime rate spiked dramatically. The Democrats are pushing for “community rehabilitation programs” instead of prison.

Morgan Stanley doubles dividend as banks clear stress tests

Morgan Stanley doubled its quarterly dividend and announced as much as US$12 billion in stock buybacks, the first of the biggest U.S. banks to respond to their success in clearing this year’s stress tests.

“Morgan Stanley has accumulated significant excess capital over the past several years and now has one of the largest capital buffers in the industry,” Chief Executive Officer James Gorman said Monday in a statement. The biggest U.S. banks began announcing their plans for distributing capital Monday after getting the green light from the Federal Reserve to resume dividend and buyback increases. All lenders passed the central bank’s stress tests last week, which freed them from remaining pandemic-era restrictions on payouts. The stress tests used to trigger anxiety across Wall Street, but the banks’ solid showing underscores how comfortable the industry has grown with the exercises. This year, with banks sitting on a massive stockpile of excess cash, the exams were primarily an indicator of how much of that money can be doled out to shareholders. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said it was boosting its quarterly payout 60 per cent to US$2 a share, effective Oct. 1, according to a statement. And JPMorgan Chase & Co. said it was raising its dividend to US$1 from 90 cents, and said it continues to be authorized to repurchase shares under a plan previously approved by the board.

“The Federal Reserve’s hypothetical CCAR stress test once again showed that banks continue to have strong capital levels and could withstand an extreme outcome while continuing to support the broader economy,” JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said in the statement. Bank of America Corp. said it would increase its dividend 17 per cent to 21 cents, subject to board approval, according to a statement from the Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank. Citigroup Inc. was an outlier among the nation’s biggest banks, holding its dividend steady at 51 cents a share -- where it’s been for almost two years. The bank will also be “continuing with out planned capital actions” regarding share repurchases, CEO Jane Fraser said in a statement.

Wells Fargo & Co. plans stock buybacks of as much as US$18 billion and said it will double its dividend to 20 cents a share. The payout was slashed last year from 51 cents to 10 cents as the San Francisco-based bank continued to work its was through a series of scandals and regulatory penalties. Payouts are expected to surge this year, which is welcome news for investors but could put big banks on defense again in Washington. Critics including U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts have condemned buybacks and dividends for enriching executives, and called for lenders to use excess capital to do more for employees.

While Monday marked the first day that the Fed said firms could release their capital plans, companies may choose to disclose their intentions, or provide additional details, at a later date. Firms don’t need the Fed to sign off on their capital plans, as long as each lender stays above its established capital minimum. If a bank falls below its required stress capital buffer at any point in the year following the stress tests, the Fed can hit it with sanctions, including restrictions on capital distributions and bonus payments.
