Olympics latest: 10,000 volunteers have quit Tokyo 2020

The July 23 opening ceremony of the delayed Tokyo Olympics is drawing nearer, but there is still much to be decided before the world's biggest sporting event can go ahead. The International Olympic Committee is insistent that the Games take place as planned, and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga says authorities will do their utmost to ensure a "safe and secure" event. But Tokyo is still under a state of emergency, polls show the Japanese public are opposed to holding them this year, and COVID-19 cases are rising again in countries across Asia and elsewhere.

Here are the latest developments in this fast-evolving story:

Wednesday, June 2 (Tokyo time)

9:36 p.m. The Japanese city of Kurume has pulled out of hosting Kenya's pre-Olympics training camp as local COVID-19 infections spread rapidly, Kenya's Olympic committee says. Facilities for training camps have become vaccination venues, the Kenyan statement quotes Kurume authorities as saying, though Japan has provided no immediate confirmation. Many of Kenya's athletes were to arrive July 7 in the city on the southern island of Kyushu, but the committee says "alternative arrangements" are being made. More than 100 Japanese municipalities have scrapped plans to host teams from abroad.

7:30 p.m. Around 10,000 volunteers who had signed up to help out at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games have quit as of June 1, Japan's broadcaster NHK reports, citing Tokyo organizers. Around 80,000 volunteers have been recruited. Those who had withdrawn did so with reasons such as concerns over the pandemic and personal issues, among others. Tokyo Olympics organizing committee chief Toshiro Muto later confirmed that about 10,000 volunteers had withdrawn from the event.

6:30 p.m. Kyodo News reports, citing sources, that the G-7 will express support for the Tokyo Olympics in a statement after a summit in the U.K. this month.

4:21 p.m. The Tokyo Metropolitan government formally announces it will scrap a plan to hold public viewing of the Olympics in the city's Yoyogi Park. Instead, police and firefighters will be vaccinated in the park from next month.

3:59 p.m. A member of the Australian women's softball team's coaching staff praises Japan's handling of Olympic arrivals, in an interview with Nikkei Asia. The team's arrival yesterday was the first test of Tokyo 2020's COVID protocols, which took five hours in Narita Airport as athletes and coaches passed through COVID tests, immigration and customs. "We're getting many questions from other sports about what immigration was like. The Japanese have set it up very well at the airport," says Deidre Anderson, Softball Australia's athlete wellbeing manager.

3:40 p.m. Shigeru Omi, head of the government's coronavirus advisory panel, calls on organizers to strengthen control systems and downsize the games. "Holding the games under the pandemic is usually unthinkable," Omi tells parliament. "If organizers want the games to be staged, it is their responsibility to ramp up its control system while minimizing the scale of the games as much possible."

1:52 p.m. South Korea asks the International Olympic Committee to pressure Japan to remove a reference to South Korea-controlled islands as Japanese territory on the Tokyo Games website. The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee sent a letter late Tuesday asking the IOC to "actively mediate" the dispute, which has sparked outrage and protests in South Korea.

George Soros Gets A COVID Loan

In March, the Small Business Administration gave a $234,548 Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) "loan" to George Soros's East-West Management Institute (EWMI).

The official description of the transaction is "to aid small businesses in maintaining workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic", but federal grants and contracts to EWMI (its primary source of revenue) rose from $9,185,194 in FY 2019 to $14,859,293 in 2020. EWMI previously received a $226,179 PPP loan in May of 2020. As a supposedly small business struggling through the pandemic, EWMI enjoys office space at 575 Madison Avenue in New York City and 1101 Connecticut Ave NW in Washington, DC. In November 2018, Judicial Watch published a special report, "The Financial and Staffing Nexus Between the Open Society Foundations and the United States Government." The 28-page report is scrupulously documented with 154 footnotes citing to primary source records. A key take-away from the report concerning the activities of EWMI is that the organization manages projects for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a nominally independent component of the U.S. State Department.

For those interested, EWMI maintains a web page with documentation concerning their non-profit status and their financial statements. You can also view their self-described "Donors and Partners" who, evidently, were not able or willing to "loan" money to EWMI for paycheck protection. The list of donors and partners is quite remarkable from the World Bank to Romania's Justice Ministry, among many others. It makes one wonder why American taxpayers had to cover the PPP "loan." It reminds one of Senator William Proxmire's (D-WI) "Golden Fleece Award" for squandering the American public's money. Granted, with the Biden administration and Congressional "leadership" meeting last month week to discuss a $2.3 trillion infrastructure bill (officially known as the American Jobs Plan) it seems a little tough to get excited about a "loan" of $234,548. The exact dollars and cents total, however, is not the point. We need to ask ourselves how "the system" our government facilitates this sort of racket without checks or oversight. Harvard University can be publicly shamed into returning COVID relief money, but a Soros group gets a pass? Why the disparity of treatment and accountability? What is the rationale? "Just the way business is done?" "Don't ask questions or you'll be accused of some bias?" "Hey, it's the 'New Normal,' get used to it!" Maybe the worst reaction for the post-Trump era is, "Who cares?"

Rest assured, there are hundreds of millions of Americans that care deeply. In American political lore, President Richard Nixon coined the phrase "silent majority" during a speech in November 1969. He aimed to identify and motivate the large mass of Americans dominated in the media by a vocal minority. Today, the Nixon model seems quaint. America's silent majority now is overshadowed by rabidly partisan major news media outlets, and the far-more-vocal minority who dominate social media platforms. It is an exponential shift in favor of the self-appointed "elites" and away from ordinary Americans trying to make a living, pay their mortgage and get their kids educated during COVID lockdowns. Those Americans would be repulsed at the idea EWMI getting a PPP "loan," assuming they even knew about it 99.9% probably had no idea.

Think about it: a Soros-backed operation that manages a big chunk of the State Department's international development operations, pretending it is like any other American "small business," was seeking paycheck protection subsidies because of COVID. It is an insult. It is grotesque. They get away with it because political operators on the Left are, it seems, creatures of big government. They are comfortable operating in that environment and in the organs of the state. They know how to work the various systems, get into the programs, make the paperwork fly and direct the taxpayer subsidies.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal on October 17, 2017, George Soros transferred $18 billion to his Open Society Foundations. EWMI is part of the greater Soros operation. Why are American taxpayers subsidizing any part of his operations?

Leon Black Accused of Defamation and Sexual Violence in Lawsuit

A woman on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Leon Black, the former chief executive of Apollo Global Management Inc., accusing him of defamation and alleging he raped and harassed her.

The woman, Guzel Ganieva, with whom Mr. Black has said he had a consensual affair, claimed in the lawsuit that Mr. Black had mischaracterized their relationship and falsely accused her in media reports of trying to extort him after she initially posted her allegations in a series of tweets on March 17.

A spokesman for Mr. Black said he denies the claims.

Mr. Black stepped down earlier this year as CEO of Apollo and handed the reins to fellow co-founder Marc Rowan after revelations of Mr. Black’s ties to the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The credit and private-equity investment giant announced the leadership transition in January, saying Mr. Black would step down on or before his 70th birthday in July.

However, it turned out that Putin did not set out any vision for the future, in any dramatic speech, and "The world's most important political event" did not take place.

What has been going on?

In my opinion, there is only one explanation for this odd situation:Putin was threatening to restore gold backing for the Russian Ruble and for the Chinese Yuan, and this scared the living daylight out of the BIS,the Bank for International Settlements of Basel, Switzerland, which caved in to the pressure from Russia and its ally, China.

As a result of Putin's threat, this May the BIS advised that it was implementing new rules to govern international banks, regarding the presentation of amounts of gold which they hold, which are no longer to include "unallocated gold".

It has been the operations with "unallocated gold" i.e. "mythical gold" which have allowed the most important banks of Britain and the US to control and suppress a market price for gold. Under the new rules which are to be presented in full on June 28 of this year, the price of gold will no longer be subject to manipulation on the part of the US and the UK, because the most important banks of these countries will no longer be able to count on "unallocated" - i.e. non-existent gold - for their collusion regarding price control of the metal.

Russia and its ally, China, have thus cancelled the power of the US and UK to keep the price of gold in a "deep freeze" for so many years.

Nobody knows how high the price of gold will be after June 28, but the higher it goes, the lower goes the international value of the Dollar, and of other national currencies that are linked to the Dollar, through the concentration of their Reserves in Dollars.

The enormous US imports of Chinese goods will have to fall to a trickle. And that reduction - the result of a return to economic reality - will decimate the standard of living of Americans.

A New Age, imposed by Russia and China, willbegin on June 28, 2021, as gold regains its age-old function as MONEY.

Former President Donald Trump has shut down his blog after less than a month as he moves toward what a senior aide described as his plan to join another social media platform.

Trump senior adviser Jason Miller confirmed Wednesday that “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” has been shuttered after less than a month.

“It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on,” Mr. Miller said in a Wednesday message to The Washington Times.

As word spread, former Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian asked on Twitter whether the shutdown was a “precursor to him joining another social media platform.”

Mr. Miller replied: “Yes, actually, it is. Stay tuned!”
