Conviction of US journalist symbolic of media repression in Myanmar: UN rights chief

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on Friday urged authorities in Myanmar to immediately release all journalists who have been jailed for practicing their profession.

Rights chief Michelle Bachelet said the conviction and harsh sentencing of American journalist Danny Fenster was emblematic of a wider plight of journalists in the country who have faced constant repression, in the wake of a military coup in February.

Reverting to censorship

“Journalists have been under attack since 1 February, with the military leadership clearly attempting to suppress their attempts to report on the serious human rights violations being perpetrated across Myanmar as well as the extent of opposition to the regime”, she said.

“Myanmar has quickly reverted to an environment of information control, censorship and propaganda seen under military regimes in the past”.

Since the military takeover, at least 126 journalists, media officials or publishers have been detained in Myanmar, the UN rights chief said. Forty-seven are still in detention, 20 of whom have been charged with crimes related to their work as journalists.

She added that nine media outlets have had their licences revoked, while 20 others have had to suspend operations. Dozens of journalists are reportedly in hiding due to outstanding arrest warrants.

Second trial pending

Mr. Fenster, 37, is the managing editor of an independent magazine called Frontier Myanmar. On Friday he was sentenced to 11 years in jail by a military court in Yangon, the country’s largest city, for violating visa laws, unlawful association with an illegal group, and sowing dissent against the military.

The sentencing followed what Ms. Bachelet described as “a closed door, unfair trial”. Mr. Fenster still faces a second trial with charges of high treason and violations of the country's counter-terrorism law.

Deprivation of information

In deploring the persecution of journalists, Ms. Bachelet said that attacks against them further increase the vulnerability of huge sections of society who rely on accurate and independent information.

“With the crackdowns on journalists, internet shutdowns, restrictions on free access to online and other data sources, people are being deprived life-saving information”, she added.

“I urge the military authorities to immediately release all journalists being detained in relation to their work".

"In reality we have told one third of the population: you will not leave your apartment anymore apart from for certain reasons. That is a massive reduction in contacts between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated," Schallenberg said.

In Germany, the federal government and leaders of Germany's 16 states are due to meet next week to discuss tightening measures. Germany has already classified Austria as a high-risk area, meaning people arriving from there have to go into quarantine, a blow to Austria's winter tourism industry.

Targeted measures have recently been introduced in Australia, where 83% of people aged 16 and above have been fully inoculated. Some states have mandated vaccinations for some occupations and barred the unvaccinated from activities such as dining out, leading to demonstrations.

Singapore, where 85% of the population has been fully vaccinated, has said those who remained unvaccinated by choice would have to foot their medical bills from next month.

Austria's lockdown, which does not apply to the under-12s or people who have recently recovered from COVID-19, will initially last 10 days, Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein said.

Many officials, including within Schallenberg's conservative party and the police, have expressed doubts this lockdown can be properly enforced as it applies to only part of the population. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said there will be thorough police checks.

LITTLE ROCK – Two Little Rock men have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a 6-year-old child. Demarcus George, 27, entered his guilty plea Wednesday afternoon. George joins his codefendant, Mario Waters, 33, who pleaded guilty last week.

The guilty pleas effectively cancel George and Waters’ upcoming jury trial, which was scheduled to begin on November 15.

In February 2018, a 6-year-old child was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital due to symptoms that were later determined to be caused by several sexually transmitted diseases. The child was interviewed by an FBI forensic interviewer and disclosed that a man, later determined to be Demarcus George, had raped her. The child also disclosed that another man, later determined to be Mario Waters, had also raped her. The child told interviewers that the rape occurred in a hotel room with a curtain in the middle of the room, and she described a picture hanging on the wall in the hotel room.

Law enforcement was able to locate a hotel in Little Rock that matched the description provided by the minor, including the picture on the wall and the curtain in the room. Financial records from the hotel showed that the minor’s mother had rented a room at the hotel in March 2018 and paid with a credit card. The child has since been removed from the mother’s custody.

Doctors at Arkansas Children’s Hospital determined that it was unlikely the child had obtained each sexually transmitted disease from the same offender and that there were likely multiple offenders. Officers obtained search warrants for George and Waters’ blood and urine. Results indicated that George and Waters tested positive for sexually transmitted diseases that the minor had contracted. Both George and Waters admitted in court that they had sexual contact with the minor and were involved in trafficking her with others.

“The unspeakable crimes committed against this child remind us how vitally important it is to have law enforcement officers willing to investigate and put a stop to these horrific actions,” stated Acting United States Attorney Jonathan D. Ross. “These guilty pleas will spare the young victim from having to relive her experience on the witness stand at a trial. Our law enforcement partners work hard every day to protect children from this abuse, and our office will continue to aggressively pursue those who commit these deplorable crimes.”

Hello frens!

I am posting a series of five graphics, and figured I should drop in some words of explanation.

In recent times I have mostly posted graphics featuring puzzles of some sort or another.

It is not yet clear if many anons have taken a whack at any of these... but put that aside for the moment... I will relink at the end.

Since it seems to me that we are reaching the apex of the roller coaster, so to speak...

(I wonder if Bannon is actually the "first arrest"... another Q inside-out meaning... kek.)

Anyway, since it seems that's where we are, I figured maybe I should go all out and make a series of easily digestible graphics, but each with a different taste.

The upshot is that each of these graphics should be comprehensible to anons who have followed Q for some time.

But the implications of each might be surprising...

And yet I am not aiming to draw "fixed" conclusions so much as point out connections.

This particular graphics suggests that Q was actually laying down a subtle marker back when he suggested a Dink song for an anon's wedding.

And in a recent speech at AFPI, real POTUS activated that marker.

Or that's how it seems to me... none of this is absolutely solid, and I think there are multiple additional angles to explore on this topic alone.

(I left stuff out as I didn't want the graphic to get too complex.)

As I said, while these graphics form a series in some sense, in another sense they have nothing to do with each other!

This one is on a totally different topic and uses a different decode style.

The basic decode strategy is one that anons use all the time:

Real POTUS (or some other insider) makes a "mistake" and then anons look at the difference between the "error" and the original.

You have to figure out what the "comm" message is and then what it might mean.

What makes this case interesting is that I consider three different options for the "message" and it turns out they all work together to form a sort of mega-comm.

The other thing about this graphic is that I figured I should fill in some background reminders about DOJ stuff.

So there is a bit of clunkiness as I am going back and forth between decodes and background.

Also, let me add a note for anons who might wish to look at some other more "puzzling" graphics I have dropped.

Look at the text portions in the bottom right of this graphic.

If I were making a more "puzzling" graphic, I would just leave those out (the text).

I might draw the connecting lines, or even just put things adjacent to each other.

But here I am trying to make everything as clear as possible.

Florida’s AAA rating places the state above the nation’s rating of AA+. Florida is also outranking other high population states with California only earning a AA-, and New York only earning a AA+. The S&P report finds that Florida is in a superior position compared to the nation as a whole, asserting “Florida’s GO bonds are eligible to be rated above the sovereign because we believe the state can maintain better credit characteristics than the U.S. in a stress scenario.” The S&P report is further testimony that Florida’s commitment to job growth and investments in infrastructure and workforce education are key to having a stable economic environment. The strong rating will allow Florida to continue to provide opportunities for business growth in the long-term.

I take a perverse delight in this graphic, since if you look simply at the top portion, up to the part where I draw the link between the candles, this is the sort of thing that some anons might scoff at. Some anons might catch something like this and post it, and then others will roll their eyes and think that this is the sort of overinterpreting that gives QAnon a bad name.

This one is a bit more loosey-goosey, although I am pretty sure I am onto something.

It involves comms related to Linda and Vince McMahon, and comms relating to Sebastian Gorka.

I am not sure what (if any) intrinsic connection there is between these two topics, apart from the fact that Q has seemingly connected them.

But maybe I'm overthinking... I guess there is the ACTING link.

One thing that is undeniable is that exactly three years after Gorka tweeted multiple times describing Q as GARBAGE, he posts saying that he has always liked Oscar the Grouch.

I had originally intended to explain everything fully, but I ended up using less text in this graphic.

I figured anons would see the significance of the Hulk Hogan Pepe, given the rest of the graphic, and would get the other joke relating to that post.

Some of the things I just don't understand, so I won't pretend otherwise.

Note that I am not saying Gorka is Q (nor that he is not), but I do think it is pretty obvious (if you pay attention to the decode), that he is overtly signalling that he is "in the know". But I guess there are different levels of being "overt". Kek.

Also, I would surmise that if he is doing that now, it probably means the hammer is about to fall.

This is the final post, and here you can see I pretty much give up on my ambition to provide fully logical explanations.

Actually, I sort of do that at the very top.

But then I end up sort of "gesturing" at a connection between many comms.

What I "say" with all the equal signs is not "strictly" correct...

Biden Names Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu to Oversee Implementation of Infrastructure Bill

Joe Biden named the corrupt former New Orleans Mayor to oversee the implementation of the newly passed $1 trillion infrastructure bill.

Mitch Landrieu is a corrupt politician from the Democrat swamp in New Orleans.

“In this role, Landrieu will oversee the most significant and comprehensive investments in American infrastructure in generations—work that independent experts verify will create millions of high-paying, union jobs while boosting our economic competitiveness in the world, strengthening our supply chains, and acting against inflation for the long term,” the White House said.

Biden is scheduled to sign the infrastructure bill on Monday.

Fox News reported:

President Biden named former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu as senior adviser and infrastructure coordinator on the $1 trillion infrastructure bill, the White House confirmed Sunday.

Landrieu, who led New Orleans from 2010 to 2018, was also a lieutenant governor for Louisiana. The White House said they chose him because of his experience leading the city, as well as for his relationships with leaders at both state and municipal levels.

Landrieu will be helping to supervise and coordinate the infrastructure bill by working through the National Economic Council.
