In a news release, officials said the Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics will bring together next-generation public health data, expert disease modelers, public health emergency responders, and high-quality communications, to meet the needs of decision makers.

The center launches with a goal of predicting disease threats, provide early warning and real-time data on outbreaks.

Health officials said it would accelerate access to and use of data for public health decision-makers who need information to mitigate the effects of disease threats, such as social and economic disruption.

The center will prioritize equity and accessibility, while serving as a hub for innovation and research on disease modeling.

“This is an amazing opportunity for CDC and public health as we stand up the country’s first government-wide public health forecasting center,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky.

“We are excited to have the expertise and ability to model and forecast public health concerns and share information in real-time to activate governmental, private sector, and public actions in anticipation of threats both domestically and abroad.”

The center, with initial funding from the American Rescue Plan, will focus on three key functions:

• Predict: Undertake modeling and forecasting; enhance the ability to determine the foundational data sources needed; support research and innovation in outbreak analytics and science for real-time action; and establish appropriate forecasting horizons.

• Connect: Expand broad capability for data sharing and integration; maximize interoperability with data standards and utilize open-source software and application programming interface capabilities, with existing and new data streams from the public health ecosystem and beyond.

• Inform: Translate and communicate forecasts; connect with key decision-makers across sectors including government, businesses, and non-profits, along with individuals with strong intergovernmental affairs and communication capacity for action.

The new leadership team charged with the development and implementation of a plan to establish the center, includes:

• Dr. Marc Lipsitch, who will serve as Director for Science

• Dr. Dylan George, who will serve as Director for Operations

• Dr. Caitlin Rivers, who will serve as Associate Director

• Dr. Rebecca Kahn, who will serve as Senior Scientist

“I am thrilled to be joining an exceptional team at CDC to build new capabilities for the fight against pandemics,” Dr. George exclaimed in the news release.

“Pandemics threaten our families and communities at speed and scale – our response needs to move at speed and scale, too.”

Dr. George continued: “The Center will provide critical information to communities so we can respond efficiently and effectively. The U.S. desperately needs this capability, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help build it.”

The new center will meet a longstanding need for a national focal point to analyze data and forecast the trajectory of pandemics with the express goal of informing and improving decisions with the best available evidence, added Dr. Lipsitch

1. This week's news, or “news,” about the US Treasury’s ability, or willingness, or just trial-balloon troll-suggestion to mint a one trillion dollar ($1,000,000,000,000) platinum coin in order to extend the country’s debt-limit reminded me of some other monetary reading I encountered, during the sweltering summer, when it first became clear to many that the greatest impediment to any new American infrastructure bill wasn’t going to be the debt-ceiling but the Congressional floor.

That reading, which I accomplished while preparing lunch with the help of my favorite infrastructure, namely electricity, was of a transcript of a speech given by one Christopher J. Waller, a freshly-minted governor of the United States’ 51st and most powerful state, the Federal Reserve.

The subject of this speech? CBDCs—which aren’t, unfortunately, some new form of cannabinoid that you might’ve missed, but instead the acronym for Central Bank Digital Currencies—the newest danger cresting the public horizon.

Now, before we go any further, let me say that it’s been difficult for me to decide what exactly this speech is—whether it’s a minority report or just an attempt to pander to his hosts, the American Enterprise Institute.

But given that Waller, an economist and a last-minute Trump appointee to the Fed, will serve his term until January 2030, we lunchtime readers might discern an effort to influence future policy, and specifically to influence the Fed’s much-heralded and still-forthcoming “discussion paper”—a group-authored text—on the topic of the costs and benefits of creating a CBDC.

That is, on the costs and benefits of creating an American CBDC, because China has already announced one, as have about a dozen other countries including most recently Nigeria, which in early October will roll out the eNaira.

By this point, a reader who isn’t yet a subscriber to this particular Substack might be asking themselves, what the hell is a Central Bank Digital Currency?

Reader, I will tell you.

Rather, I will tell you what a CBDC is NOT—it is NOT, as Wikipedia might tell you, a digital dollar. After all, most dollars are already digital, existing not as something folded in your wallet, but as an entry in a bank’s database, faithfully requested and rendered beneath the glass of your phone.

Neither is a Central Bank Digital Currency a State-level embrace of cryptocurrency—at least not of cryptocurrency as pretty much everyone in the world who uses it currently understands it.

Instead, a CBDC is something closer to being a perversion of cryptocurrency, or at least of the founding principles and protocols of cryptocurrency—a cryptofascist currency, an evil twin entered into the ledgers on Opposite Day, expressly designed to deny its users the basic ownership of their money and to install the State at the mediating center of every transaction.

2. For thousands of years priors to the advent of CBDCs, money—the conceptual unit of account that we represent with the generally physical, tangible objects we call currency—has been chiefly embodied in the form of coins struck from precious metals. The adjective “precious”—referring to the fundamental limit on availability established by what a massive pain in the ass it was to find and dig up the intrinsically scarce commodity out of the ground—was important, because, well, everyone cheats: the buyer in the marketplace shaves down his metal coin and saves up the scraps, the seller in the marketplace weighs the metal coin on dishonest scales, and the minter of the coin, who is usually the regent, or the State, dilutes the preciosity of the coin’s metal with lesser materials, to say nothing of other methods.

The history of banking is in many ways the history of this dilution—as governments soon discovered that through mere legislation they could declare that everyone within their borders had to accept that this year’s coins were equal to last year’s coins, even if the new coins had less silver and more lead. In many countries, the penalties for casting doubt on this system, even for pointing out the adulteration, was asset-seizure at best, and at worst: hanging, beheading, death-by-fire.

It dropped on Friday that a Capitol Police Whistleblower had written a 16 page letter to Congress, dated September 28th, blaming the failures of the Capitol Police on senior Leadership. The two he cites to be most responsible are Yogananda Pittman and Sean Gallagher. He says they had forehand intelligence that January 6th was going to be a shit fest and not only didn't do anything about it, like asking D.C. police for help, getting National Guard, or having officers dress up in riot gear, they also kept the intelligence that J6 was going to be a shit fest a secret from the rest of the capitol police. He goes on to further indict these leaders by saying they purposely did nothing as events were unfolding on the day, letting Capitol Police officers get bumrushed without taking any action, and just watched it all on the Command and Control screens. He says they did this for political and personal gain. Pittman and Gallagher have since been promoted, with Pittman being named chief of the Capitol Police. Finally, he says Pittman committed perjury by knowingly lying to congress.

That’s right, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is right yet again, and Florida is in good shape, despite never having any tyrannical mandates like Joe Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci wanted.

The number of Covid-19 cases reported in Florida continued to plummet last week and so, too, did the number of people getting vaccinated, according to Friday’s weekly update from the Florida Department of Health.

Another 54,109 people in the state tested positive for the coronavirus during the week, according the report. That is 40.4% drop from the 75,998 new cases the prior week.

Another 2,340 deaths were reported, pushing the death toll to 53,580 state health officials said. During the previous week, the pandemic high 2,468 fatalities were tallied.

Keep in mind though as you read those numbers, that over 8,200 people die every single day in America. Over 3.2 million people die every single year on average in America, the majority not from Covid. The majority from Cancers, Heart Disease, and other things. So what the government isn’t telling you is that almost 60,000 people per week die in America, every single week. It’s called life, and you’re being played by fear.

Meanwhile, the number of people seeking vaccines dropped with just 109,265 state residents rolling up their sleeves. That is down 33% from the previous week and a 216% drop from a seven-day stretch in mid-August when infection rates were soaring.

An additional 2,929 county residents tested positive for the disease in the past week compared to the 4,588 who were diagnosed with COVID-19 a week earlier.

Some have made the mistake of thinking that Donald Trump will be the one that saves America.

Others, in reaction to this view, insist that we, the people are the only ones who can save our nation.

This is a classic example of how a false dichotomy works. Two views are presented—neither one of which is correct.

For our nation to be saved, average citizens must put their shoulders to the wheel and become more involved directly in the political process. We are in the present predicament because we abdicated that responsibility. To get ourselves back on the right track, we must engage the political process, personally.

Within any movement, certain individuals move to the forefront as leaders. They inspire the movement's members, offer hope, and point the way forward. This is the role President Trump plays in our movement. He is not our savior, but he is certainly our movement's most recognized and respected leader.

Other leaders are present in our movement. Some are publicly known. Others are not. General Flynn is a leader and happens to be a retired member of the military. Do we imagine that no active duty members of the military play a role as leaders?

There is presently a crisis of leadership in the US military. Two factions are battling for control of the armed services.One faction will prevail. The one that does will determine the future direction of the United States. For whoever controls the military, controls the fate of this great nation.
