As the last mission of the strategic pioneer program on space science (Phase II) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, SMILE addresses a gap in China's space exploration capabilities and marks a pivotal transformation - from isolated breakthroughs to a constellation of space science satellites.

Space science defines the frontier of deep-space exploration and serves as a key benchmark of national scientific and technological strength. For many years, China's space science program operated from a relatively modest foundation, lacking self-developed high-end exploration satellites and independent data streams. Research largely depended on publicly available foreign datasets, creating major constraints on advanced, frontier scientific research.

A structured national program dedicated to space science satellites began in 2011. This launched a concerted effort over the subsequent decade.

Insight-HXMT has monitored extreme astrophysical phenomena, precisely detecting burst signals from black holes and neutron stars and yielding a series of major original achievements.

Each of these missions pursued distinct scientific objectives with unique capabilities. Progress across multiple fields within space science has been remarkable, propelling China from a late entrant to a significant global contributor.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesdayruled against a devout Rastafarian who sought damages after Louisiana prison officials cut his dreadlocks despite his claim that it violated his religious rights.

The court ruled 6-3 that Damon Landor cannot seek damages under a law called the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, or RLUIPA. The court was divided along ideological lines, with conservatives in the majority and liberals dissenting.

The ruling saw the conservative majority depart from its regular support for religious claims, although recent high-profile wins tended to involve conservative Christians.

“I am disappointed but not defeated. What happened to me violated my faith and my dignity. I will continue pursuing accountability. What happened to me should not happen to anyone else,” Landor said in a statement released by his lawyers.

The underlying incident took place in 2020 at the Raymond Laborde Correctional Center, where Landor was moved while serving a five-month sentence on a drug-related charge.

Officers handcuffed Landor to a chair and shaved his head despite his protestations.Beforehand, he had shown them a copy of a binding court ruling that said it would be a religious rights violation to cut a Rastafarian’s dreadlocks.

Prior to the incident, he had not cut his hair for 20 years, in accordance with a practice known as the Nazirite vow.

Writing for the majority, conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch said that RLUIPA, which applies to any local prison that accepts any federal funding,does not allow for claims against individual officials.

The only way the suit could go forward would be if the officials had consented to face liability under the federal law, and they had not,Gorsuch added.

“Mr. Landor’s case cannot proceed against them any more than a breach of contract action might proceed against a defendant who never formed a contract,” he wrote.

In dissent, liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said the entire purpose of RLUIPA is to “ensure that state and local prisons respect prisoners’ right to religious exercise.”

But the Supreme Court has now effectively eviscerated the provision that had allowed prisoners to bring lawsuits, she added.

“Prisoners like Landor who suffer violations of their religious freedom in state prisons — no matter how blatant — will often be left remediless,” she added.

Donald Trump's approval rating is rebounding after the White House made strides to end the war in Iran, sending oil prices tanking.

The President's approval rating has ticked up to 47 percent, while his disapproval hovers at 53 percent, according to the latest exclusive Daily Mail/JL Partners survey.

It is the 80-year-old's highest approval rating this year, since the end of February, just days before the US launched its war against Iran in conjunction with Israel.

For the past three months, Trump's approval rating in the Daily Mail/JL Partners polls has consistently stayed at 43 percent, up a tick from his all-time lowest approval rating this year at 42 percent in mid-March.

The improvement signifies American voters' appreciation of the administration's efforts to end the nearly four-month-long war.

The poll was conducted June 19-21, just after the President visited France for the G7 meeting of world leaders, where Iran peace was a hot topic of discussion. Trump talked repeatedly about wrapping up the war and how its end will juice global markets.

Trump also signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran to extend the ceasefire and hash out specific terms to end hostilities, and markets have reacted positively.

Gas prices in the US have been on the decline during the same period, dropping to $3.93 from $4.52 per gallon of regular grade, according to AAA.

FDA Altered Autopsy Results of Children Who Died After COVID Vaccines

In November 2025, the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research identified 10 child deaths related to the COVID-19 shots. In December 2025, the agency reduced the number to seven after revising at least two of the children’s autopsies, according to documents released last week by Sen. Ron Johnson.

Scientists at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revised the autopsy results of children who died after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, reducing the number of children the agency classified as having likely died as a result of their vaccination, according to documents released last week by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).

The documents show that in November 2025, the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) identified 10 child deaths related to the COVID-19 shots. But in December 2025, it reduced the number to seven and downgraded the probability that those deaths were connected to the children’s vaccination.

The Daily Caller, which first reported, quoted two former FDA officials and a forensic pathologist who performed two of the children’s autopsies. One of the FDA officials told the outlet the emails reveal “a coverup” by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Johnson included the documents in a letter sent last week to U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., CDC Acting Director Jay Bhattacharya and FDA Acting Commissioner Kyle Diamantas.

Even the reduced number of deaths was enough to trigger concern among some FDA scientists about the safety of the COVID-19 shots, Johnson’s letter stated.

“Although what drove the decision to change these three cases remains to be seen, what is clear is that these officials appear to have determined that the seven cases warranted warning about the risks,” Johnson wrote. These risks “should have raised serious concerns at HHS and CDC about the mRNA COVID-19 Injections.”

Even after the downgrade, the FDA’s Division of Pharmacovigilance recommended revising the label of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines to include a warning about the risk of “myocarditis with fatal outcomes.”

The change was never made, for reasons that are not clear.

Myocarditis is widely associated with the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and, with reports of deaths connected to the vaccines, particularly among teenage and young adult males.

Sen. Johnson: ‘The biggest government scandal’ of his lifetime

Johnson, who chairs the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, is investigating a potential federal cover-up of COVID-19 vaccine risks.

In a post on X earlier this month, Johnson called the cover-up “way bigger than Watergate.” In a follow-up post, he called it “the biggest government scandal” of his lifetime.

According to the Daily Caller, the children’s deaths occurred in 2021 and 2022, but were not revealed until 2025.

One of the unnamed FDA officials who spoke to the outlet said, “One wonders if there was internal pressure at the FDA during that time not to report these pediatric deaths in a timely manner.”

Attorney Greg Glaser said the FDA’s “maneuvering to obscure the true devastation of these vaccines is the definition of a fraudulent act” to protect Big Pharma.

Johnson is asking the CDC to provide him with all records relating to its decision to award Pfizer new contracts for its COVID-19 shots, and all CDC and FDA records about child deaths related to COVID-19 vaccination and any deliberations that occurred over whether to change the labels of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Brian Hooker, Ph.D., chief scientific officer for Children’s Health Defense (CHD), said the number of child deaths linked to the COVID-19 shots is likely much higher, citing reports from the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). He said:

“VAERS reports (for U.S. only) show 84 child deaths (17 and under) from the COVID shot. We know that because of the gross underreporting of VAERS and the consistent efforts by the medical profession to mask vaccine deaths, 84 child deaths are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to mortality associated with the COVID shot.

“In light of this, it seems ridiculous to quibble over the HHS [U.S. Department of Health and Human Services] trying to reduce the number of deaths from 10 to 7. However, it belies the fact that when it comes to vaccines, the deep state within HHS, past and present, will lie through their teeth about a death or injury related to vaccines.”

Eight of the ten Antifa members convicted of terrorism charges for an attack on a Texas ICE detention center were sentenced to at least 50 years in prison on Tuesday.

The Antifa ringleader Benjamin Song was sentenced to 100 years in prison.

Eight people who were found guilty of terrorism-related charges earlier this year for a 2025 attack on an ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Texas, learned their punishments on Tuesday.One member of the group, identified as the group’s leader, was sentenced to a century in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas said on Monday that sentencing for the defendants would happen Tuesday morning.The verdicts, handed down in March, came as the defendants stood accused in the July 4, 2025, plot targeting the Prairieland ICE detention center following weeks of testimony from investigators, law enforcement and cooperating witnesses.

Benjamin Song was hit with the longest prison sentence: 100 years behind bars.Maricela Rueda was sentenced to 70 years in prison. Autumn Hill was sentenced to 50 years, along with Zachary Evetts, Savanna Batten, Meagan Morris, and Elizabeth Soto. Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors said that the group launched a premeditated terror attack on the detention facility inspired by antifa ideology, by setting off fireworks, vandalizing property, and shooting at police officers who responded. One officer was struck in the neck with a bullet and survived.

In March, a jury found nine Antifa members guilty of terrorism charges in an attack on an ICE detention center in Texas.

The nine indicted defendants: Cameron Arnold, a/k/a Autunm Hill, Zachary Evetts, Benjamin Song, Savanna Batten, Bradford Morris, a/k/a Meagan Morris, Maricela Rueda, Elizabeth Soto, Ines Soto, and Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada.

A police officer was shot in the neck.

The defendants were found guilty on riot charges, providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to use and carry an explosive, and using and carrying an explosive, three counts of attempted murder of an officer, three counts of discharging a firearm during a violent crime, corruptly concealing a document and conspiracy to conceal documents.

A Palestinian farmer and his three-year-old son were ambushed by IDF troops near the Gaza border, leaving the child dead and the father badly wounded. The devastated man told RT about the tragic events.

Speaking from a hospital in Deir Al-Balah, Central Gaza, Baha Abu Al-Ajeen said he was tending his land and was driving along a rural road near the ‘yellow line’ when Israeli soldiers suddenly appeared and ordered his vehicle to stop. His son, who was sitting in his arms, began to cry, he said.

“From the first bullet, I stopped completely to avoid getting killed,” he said. “The first bullet hit the road while the second hit the child directly while he was in my arms… A soldier shot the child right in the head.” Abu Al-Ajeen said the next round hit his leg, shattering the bone.

The soldiers refused to call an ambulance and took away his phone, telling him that no calls or medical help would be allowed. The man was held “for hours in a military vehicle” while the wounded child remained in his arms, and “right after my son died in my arms, they took him away from me,”before he was dropped off at an unknown location and eventually reached Al-Aqsa Hospital.

Responding to RT’s request for comment, the IDF said the soldiers “initiated standard suspect apprehension procedures, which included warning fire,” and that “it was reported that, as a result of the fire, one Gazan was killed and another was injured.”

According to the latest report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Israeli forces have “deliberately targeted and killed” Palestinian children in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The report accused Israel of committing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in the enclave.

The commission found that around 30% of those killed in Gaza since October 2023 were children, and that attacks on maternity and neonatal care, combined with an aid blockade, have driven a rise in miscarriages, birth defects, starvation-related deaths, and disease among minors. Israel rejected the commission’s findings as a “defamatory advocacy report” and a “libelous sham.”

More than 50,000 Palestinian children have been killed or wounded by Israeli forces since the start of the Gaza war, according to UNICEF, which says the killing continued even after the 2025 US-brokered 2025 ceasefire deal. The war began after Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. Israel’s subsequent air and ground campaign has killed more than 73,000 people in Gaza, according to the local health authorities.

Russia is ready to invoke its security guarantees to Belarus if Ukraine follows through on threats to strike targets on its territory, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned.

Lavrov made the remarks during a round-table discussion on the West’s role in the Ukraine conflict on Monday. He was commenting on Vladimir Zelensky’s demand that Minsk dismantle or disable what Kiev claims are Russian-linked relay stations along the Belarus-Ukraine border. Zelensky gave Belarus one week to act, warning that Ukraine would otherwise destroy the equipment itself.

The Russian foreign minister described the ultimatum as a threat against a sovereign state, stating that “this is obviously aimed at dragging Belarus directly into the conflict and expanding the geography of hostilities.”

He noted that Russia and Belarus have had a security guarantees treaty in force since March 2025 under the Union State framework.

The pact treats an attack on either Russia or Belarus as an attack on the Union State and allows both sides to use all available military and technical means, including nuclear weapons, to repel aggression and threats to their sovereignty or territorial integrity.

“If necessary, we are ready to take the full range of measures provided for by the treaty to ensure the security of our ally and, of course, the security of the Union State,”Lavrov said.

Minsk has said it will not dismantle the equipment or halt fuel deliveries to Russia, similarly warning that an attack from Ukraine would trigger a response.

Lavrov also criticized the EU for what he said was support for Zelensky’s threats, citing remarks by a European Commission spokeswoman who accused Belarus of aiding Russia and said Ukraine has the right to self-defense.

The foreign minister stressed that Europe cannot act as a neutral mediator in the conflict while arming Ukraine, expanding the sanctions on Russia, and backing threats against Belarus.

Russia and Belarus have expressed concern over increasing NATO activity near their borders, including the Gallant Boar 2026 drills being held by Lithuania, Poland, and France near the Suwalki Corridor, a narrow area between Belarus and Kaliningrad Region, Russia.

Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Sekreta said Minsk is closely watching the exercise andaccused Europe of embracing a militarized ideology. “Who are they planning to fight again?”he said.

Russia and Belarus have denied that they have any plans to attack NATO or the EU unless attacked first. They have accused Western states of using the Ukraine conflict, NATO drills, and military buildups on the bloc’s eastern flank to prepare for a direct confrontation with Russia and Belarus.

Donald Trump's approval rating is rebounding after the White House made strides to end the war in Iran, sending oil prices tanking.

The President's approval rating has ticked up to 47 percent, while his disapproval hovers at 53 percent, according to the latest exclusive Daily Mail/JL Partners survey.

It is the 80-year-old's highest approval rating this year, since the end of February, just days before the US launched its war against Iran in conjunction with Israel.

For the past three months, Trump's approval rating in the Daily Mail/JL Partners polls has consistently stayed at 43 percent, up a tick from his all-time lowest approval rating this year at 42 percent in mid-March.

The improvement signifies American voters' appreciation of the administration's efforts to end the nearly four-month-long war.

The poll was conducted June 19-21, just after the President visited France for the G7 meeting of world leaders, where Iran peace was a hot topic of discussion. Trump talked repeatedly about wrapping up the war and how its end will juice global markets.

Trump also signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran to extend the ceasefire and hash out specific terms to end hostilities, and markets have reacted positively.

Gas prices in the US have been on the decline during the same period, dropping to $3.93 from $4.52 per gallon of regular grade, according to AAA.

'19 millions barrels of oil flowed out of the Hormuz Strait yesterday, an all time record,' Trump celebrated on social media Tuesday morning. 'Oil prices are tumbling down, and the world is a much safer place!'

Voters last month expressed major concerns over the then-teetering US economy as oil prices remained elevated.

The Daily Mail/JL Partners poll taken in May found that 59 percent of voters said the economy was getting worse.

According to the survey, Trump still holds a tight grip on his MAGA base with 82 percent of Republicans approving of the President's performance.

Trump has also overseen a flurry of popular events spanning from the America 250 celebrations to the White House UFC event and the start of the World Cup in June.

Independents, however, remain sour on the Republicans' leadership, with just 38 percent approval compared to 52 percent disapproval.

Hispanic voters are still firmly within Trump's camp, too, with 45 percent approving of the President compared to 41 percent disapproving. White voters gave Trump a 46 percent approval rating in the latest survey.

Black voters delivered Trump a 38 percent approval rating, while 48 percent disapproved.

'President Trump appears to have got a direct approval bump from the Iran deal, putting him on his second-highest rating of the year so far,' JL Partners founder James Johnson told the Daily Mail in a statement.

'That makes sense, given we know voters see a clear link between gas prices and the Iran conflict being open.'

As Trump has announced a tentative deal to begin negotiating a final peace agreement with Iran, markets have rallied and hit new highs.

The S&P 500 hit an all-time high on June 2, and so did the Nasdaq Composite.

Additionally, the Dow Jone Industrial Average hit an all-time high on June 16.

Despite the gains earlier this month, all have since fallen slightly.

President Donald Trump’s uncle, John G. Trump, was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1936 until his retirement in 1973.

It is well known that declassified documents confirm that in January 1943 Professor Trump was called upon by the FBI to evaluate the personal papers of Nikola Tesla just over a week after his death.

What is not well known is that there is also a leaked classified document that also connects Professor Trump to another famous event in US history – the crash of a flying saucer at Roswell in 1947.

According to a memorial tribute published by the National Academy of Engineering, John Trump joined MIT to work with Professor Robert J. Van de Graaff, who was a pioneer in “the new field of super-high voltage generation and applications.”

After gaining a Doctorate under Van de Graaff in 1933, Trump went on to become an assistant professor in 1936, and a full professor in 1952 at MIT.

According to the memorial tribute:

John Trump had two main interests: the insulation of super-high voltages in vacuum and compressed gases and the biological applications of high voltage radiation.

During World War II, Trump worked on microwave radar at MIT’s Radiation Lab, where he served as “field services director”, and also was posted to the British branch of the Radiation Lab where he worked directly with General Dwight D. Eisenhower:

In 1944, he was named director of the lab and given the responsibility of working directly with the Eisenhower Military Command. At the liberation of Paris, Trump rode into the city with General Eisenhower and immediately began to set up the Paris branch of the Radiation Lab.

Trump’s expertise with high voltages and radiation was widely acknowledged by U.S. authorities, and he also was very familiar with the requirements for working in classified government programs.

In 1943, he played a major role in the examination of Nikola Tesla’s personal papers that were acquired by the FBI/Office Alien Property Custodian soon after Tesla’s January 13 death. An FBI document included Trump among the scientists and experts investigating Tesla’s papers:

Tesla was the author of over 200 patents granted worldwide, and made numerous claims about building death rays and electrostatic walls of energy that could protect any country from attack.

Among Tesla’s inventions was a revolutionary disc shaped aircraft – a flying saucer – which he allegedly filed a patent application for in the early 1900’s, but it was not granted on national security grounds.

Apparently, Tesla planned for his flying saucer to be remotely powered by a “world wireless system” which he first discussed in a March 5, 1904 paper titled: “The Transmission of Electric Energy Without Wires”. Tesla wrote:

Not only was it practicable to send telegraphic messages to any distance without wires, as I recognized long ago, but also to impress upon the entire globe the faint modulations of the human voice, far more still, to transmit power, in unlimited amounts, to any terrestrial distance and almost without loss…

Tesla went on to describe how his “world wireless system” would be powered by devices similar to his legendary Wardenclyff Tower, which would be eventually capable of generating huge electrostatic charges that surpassed that found in lightning bolts:

“I was honestly really nervous, Joe. I was like, dude, there’s like just again being around everybody, and something could happen. The drones, you know, that they stopped. Like again, I wasn’t knowing what to expect,” Wittman said.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)let hundreds of thousands of illegal fentanyl pills reach the streets of New Mexico between 2023 and 2025– potentially leading to deadly outcomes – to focus on building bigger drug cases, The Associated Press reported on Monday, citing law enforcement sources and records.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid roughly 50 times stronger than heroin, is manufactured largely in clandestine Mexican labs using chemicals sourced from China. A dose as small as two milligrams – a few grains of salt – can be lethal, making it far deadlier per unit than cocaine, methamphetamine or heroin, with the drug itself cheap to produce and not dependent on crop seasons.

The drug is associated with two main dangers: while for opioid addicts, it has replaced heroin as their primary high, for the broader public, it acts as a hidden poison, often disguised as counterfeit prescription pills.

The US has been reeling from the fentanyl epidemic since 2013, with tens of thousands dying from overdoses yearly.US President Donald Trump has outlined combating the crisis as one of his priorities, designating fentanyl a “weapon of mass destruction.”

While the DEA insists that it is not logistically feasible or even necessary to intercept every drug shipment,the scale of the strategy to allow fentanyl to hit the streets “shocked several veteran agents” in New Mexico, according to AP.

“We poisoned our community to make cases,” DEA Special Agent David Howell told the outlet, adding that theagency’s approach “100% got people killed.” Howell, who filed a whistleblower complaint on the issue, described the tactic as “we did nothing, but sit back and watch.”

In one case detailed in a 66-page report reviewed by AP, agentstracked a June 2023 deal in Albuquerque in which traffickers delivered 74,000 pills that were never seized. A former DEA supervisor told AP thatcolleagues let “millions” of pills go unseized during a separate multi-state probe last year; Howell’s whistleblower disclosures put the figure at no less than 1.8 million pills.

At the same time, as the investigation progressed, theDEA carried out the largest single fentanyl pill seizure in its history in Albuquerque in May 2025, with agents confiscating 2.7 million fentanyl pills, more than 11kg of fentanyl powder, and $5 million in cash, alongside the arrest of 16 people with suspected ties to Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel.

Commenting on the AP report, DEA spokesperson Amanda Wozniak said that “public descriptions suggesting that DEA knowingly permitted fentanyl to reach communities are false and fundamentally mischaracterize the facts,” adding that the investigation focused on wiretaps and real-time surveillance.

The FCC votes Thursday on a fix to the same flaw that just powered Brazil's 1:00 a.m. alien panic

A hacker who breached Brazil's national emergency alert system and pushed fake 'alien attack' warnings to millions of phones overnight has handed cybersecurity experts a working demonstration of a flaw the United States has known about for years.

The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) network that buzzes every American smartphone with AMBER alerts, tornado warnings, and presidential messages uses the same trust-based architecture that just failed in Latin America's largest country.

How Brazil's Alert System Was Hijacked

The Civil Defense Alert platform began firing 'extreme alert' notifications shortly before midnight on 19 June, jolting residents in Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, and three other cities awake.

One message in Belo Horizonte read, 'ALIEN ATTACK, PEOPLE, WE HAVE ARRIVED'. Another in Rio carried garbled text built around the Portuguese word for 'misanthropy', spreading confusion before anyone could verify the source.

Brazil's National Civil Defense took the platform offline at 1: 30 a.m. Saturday and confirmed an 'unauthorised third party' had remotely triggered the alerts.

The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development handed the case to the Federal Police, who are working to identify the attacker.

The breach happened a week after the Pentagon's third release of declassified Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files on 12 June, a timing that fuelled viral speculation but masked the underlying security failure.

The US WEA System Has the Same Problem

The architecture Brazil used is not unique. Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder demonstrated in 2019 that the Wireless Emergency Alert system could be spoofed using off-the-shelf software-defined radio equipment, with attacks reaching a 90% success rate inside a 16,859 square-metre building and hitting 49,300 of 50,000 seats inside an outdoor stadium.

The transmission from the cell tower to the phone has no digital signature, meaning a device cannot verify whether an alert is genuine.

That gap matters because every US cell phone receives WEA messages automatically. A fake 1:00 a.m. tornado warning, AMBER alert, or active-shooter notification reaching millions could spread panic before any correction reaches the public.

The January 2018 Hawaii ballistic missile false alarm, caused by a single employee selecting the wrong menu option, took 38 minutes to retract and left residents hiding in basements and bathtubs.

Officials at the time acknowledged the network had no automated way to reverse the broadcast.

FCC Vote on Cybersecurity Rules Lands Thursday

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is scheduled to vote on 25 June on a sweeping cybersecurity package targeting both the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and WEA.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr wrote in a 3 June blog post that the proposal would 'help protect against hijacking by cyber criminals and our nation's adversaries.'

The package would require authentication of all alerts before transmission, force broadcasters to change default passwords on EAS equipment, mandate firmware patches, and introduce a universal alert identification number to block duplicates.

The agency began drafting the rules after a string of hardware-based EAS hijackings in late 2025 and April 2026, when hackers broke into radio station transmission gear to inject fake audio.

Brazil's case extends that threat into the cellular layer, the part of the alert chain US officials have struggled to harden.

What Happens If the Fix Comes Too Late

Cybersecurity researchers behind the original Colorado study proposed a 64-byte digital signature solution that would let phones verify each alert.

Seven years later, no major US carrier has rolled it out. The fix requires coordination between mobile operators, federal regulators, and handset manufacturers, three groups rarely aligned on infrastructure spending.

For now, every WEA notification an American receives still arrives unsigned. If an attacker repeats Brazil's playbook on US soil, the next alert lighting up phones at 1:00 a.m. could come from anywhere.

Independent researchers use mobile technology to track and analyze unexplained aerial phenomena

For centuries, humans have looked up at the night sky and wondered what might be moving through the darkness above.

Today, that curiosity is evolving into something more rigorous. A growing number of researchers are no longer satisfied with speculation—they are building instruments, gathering data, and testing the skies themselves.

One of the most ambitious efforts comes from Nightcrawler UAP, a team based on Long Island that has developed a mobile laboratory designed to detect and analyze unidentified aerial phenomena using a suite of advanced sensors.

I recently spoke with John Tedesco, Gerry Tedesco, and Donna Lee Nardo about their work during a video podcast episode of All Things Unexplained.

While readers can watch the full conversation on YouTube, the discussion reveals a fascinating glimpse into how modern independent researchers are approaching one of the world’s most enduring mysteries.

From childhood curiosity to field research

The origins of Nightcrawler UAP stretch back long before the recent surge in government reports about unidentified aerial phenomena.

John and Gerry Tedesco say their interest in strange phenomena dates back to childhood, fueled by science fiction, curiosity about the universe, and a shared fascination with unexplained events.

But the idea for their mobile research platform came from something much more grounded.

Originally, the brothers were investigating potential electromagnetic influences related to cancer clusters on Long Island. Their plan was to build a mobile laboratory capable of measuring electromagnetic fields across the island.

When the U.S. government’s ODNI report on UAP encounters by military pilots was released, the project took on an entirely new dimension.

“We realized the platform we were building could also be used to investigate aerial anomalies,” Gerry explained.

The result was Nightcrawler, a heavily modified vehicle outfitted with radar systems, hyperspectral cameras, magnetometers, radio-frequency sensors, and multiple infrared imaging systems.

The current version—now the third iteration—is essentially a fully mobile sensor array capable of analyzing objects in the sky across multiple wavelengths.

A mobile laboratory for the sky

Unlike stationary observatories, Nightcrawler’s strength lies in mobility.

The platform enables researchers to deploy sophisticated equipment anywhere anomalies are reported, whether that’s along coastlines, in remote locations, or at temporary hotspots.

The system includes:

Multiple radar units are tracking targets both horizontally and vertically

Infrared imaging across several wavelength bands

Thermal cameras and hyperspectral imaging

Magnetometers and RF detectors

High-resolution optical cameras.

The equipment allows the team to examine objects from different observational angles simultaneously.

“We’re layering sensors,” John explained during the interview. “Each one covers a different part of the electromagnetic spectrum, so nothing overlaps and nothing gets missed.”

In practice, this means that an object appearing in visible light may behave very differently when observed through infrared or radar.

Eliminating the ordinary

One of the biggest challenges in UAP research is separating the mysterious from the mundane.

Planes, satellites, balloons, drones, and even ships on the horizon can create misleading observations.

Nightcrawler’s team uses multiple verification methods to rule out conventional explanations.

Their process includes:

Checking ADS-B transponder data to identify aircraft

Monitoring marine traffic systems to track ships

Measuring wind speeds to rule out drifting balloons

Using thermal imaging to identify engines and heat signatures

Cross-referencing radar data and camera imagery.

In other words, before something is considered anomalous, it must fail a long list of normal explanations.

“It’s a triage process,” Donna Lee said. “We eliminate the known first.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was subpoenaed by Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul.

Paul accused Fauci of dodging a previous commitment to testify before a Senate committee chaired by the Kentucky libertarian.

'Last week, Anthony Fauci notified us that he will not voluntarily testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, even though he had previously agreed to do so,' Paul wrote on X on Monday.

'Therefore, today we have issued a subpoena for him to publicly testify.' Paul said later Fauci would testify in July.

The subpoena is the latest in a long string of clashes between Paul and Fauci.

As far back as 2021, Paul accused Fauci in a Senate hearing of providing funding for a Chinese laboratory, which intelligence reports have revealed may have originated the COVID pandemic.

Fauci denied the accusations, but Paul believes the evidence shows otherwise and has pushed for an indictment of Fauci, alleging that he lied to Congress under oath.

In May, Paul warned in a social media post that the statute of limitations for Fauci's alleged misdeed was about to expire. Fauci has not been indicted by Trump's Justice Department.

A woman caught on video emptying a public trash can on the street then stealing it during New York City’s Knicks championship parade was a director at JPMorgan Chase who was fired Tuesday over the incident, The Post has learned.

Angie Báez, 40, was promoted to Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement for Card and Connected Commerce at JPMorgan Chase more than a year ago, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She previously served as Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at New York-based review website The Infatuation, which Chase acquired as part of its broader push into lifestyle and experiential content.

Sources say the bank looked into the incident after the video surfaced and a JPMorgan Chase spokesperson told The Post, “This employee is no longer with the company.”

Báez could not be reached by The Post for comment Tuesday. Sources noted she had attended the parade in her personal capacity.

Clips that surfaced over the weekend show Báez dressed in Knicks gear, dumping the contents of a limited-edition blue-and-orange trash can onto a Manhattan sidewalk before walking off with the receptacle. Additional footage shows her riding the subway with the stolen bin.

In a bio on The Infatuation’s website, Báez is described as someone whose “dedication to making a positive impact shines through in every aspect of her work.” The publication adds that “Angie’s efforts have helped position [The Infatuation] as a trailblazer in the pursuit of a more equitable and relatable food media industry,” calling her one of the “brightest voices” in the space.

“As a vibrant mosaic of Dominican heritage, Bronx roots, and a passion for storytelling, creativity, and culture, Angie continues to lead the way towards a more inclusive and equitable future for food media, leaving an indelible mark on The Infatuation and everything she touches,” the bio states.

Baez also appears to have co-founded a queer and Black, Indigenous and People of Color-owned talent agency, Same Page Co. which is “focused on increasing representation and equity in media and industry. It works with artists/talent on creative projects, photoshoots, strategy, and business affairs.”

Same Page Co. did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.

Earlier in her career, Báez worked as Diversity & Inclusion Program Lead at Squarespace and held a top job as diversity & inclusion roles at Saks Fifth Avenue, Hudson’s Bay, and Saks Off 5th, according to another online biography.

Under New York City law, theft of property valued under $1,000 is typically charged as petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. Consequences are often minimal—usually a fine, summons, or community service for first-time offenders. The littering that accompanied the theft could bring additional penalties.

“Dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property for your own personal use are both illegal, antisocial behaviors, and not what New Yorkers do. On top of all that, doing both on camera is incredibly stupid,” the New York City Department of Sanitation told The Post in a statement.

The NYPD said on June 20th they have not received any complaints related to the incident and Beaz has not been charged with a crime.

Iran and Oman note future Strait of Hormuz management "services" will have "costs associated"

Iran and Oman reiterated on Tuesday that they were hashing out plans to jointly manage commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, andthey said services they provide to vessels would have "costs associated."

In a joint statement, the two countries said they were working to reach an agreement on how the waterway will be jointly managed in the future, "and the services that will be provided in this regard and the costs associated with them in accordance with international standards."

The two countries, which both have coastlines in the vital shipping passage out of the Persian Gulf,emphasized "their sovereignty and sovereign rights over their territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz," and their "commitment to maintaining the Strait of Hormuz as a secure and open waterway for international navigation."

The deal struck between the U.S. and Iran calls for Iran to "conduct dialogue with the sultanate of Oman to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz," and specifies the discussions must be in line with applicable international law. It does not explicitly bar Iran from charging fees for passage, which Tehran has said for weeks that it will do, though not during the 60-day negotiation period with the U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump will present the trophy to thewinners of the World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed.

In a break from recent FIFA protocol, the trophy will be jointly presented to the captain of the winning team by Trump and Infantino.

LEVY COUNTY, Fla. ~ On June 16, 2026, the Florida Highway Patrol’s Criminal Alien Apprehension Team (CAAT), along with U.S. Immigration andCustoms Enforcement (ICE) agents, conducted a traffic stop near Americana Boulevardand Pointe Vista Circle in Orange County.During the stop, multiple occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. An ICE agent pursued one of the fleeing subjects and attempted to lawfully detain him.

A physical altercation ensued as the suspect—Elias Bautista, a Mexican national who entered the country illegally—actively resisted apprehension and continued attempting to flee.During the struggle, the suspect struck the ICE agent, causing the agent to sustain a significant head injury before the suspect fled the scene.

Following the incident, investigators with FHP BCII, CAAT, ICE ERO, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted an extensive investigation utilizing surveillance, intelligence gathering, witness interviews, law enforcement databases, and other investigative resources to positively identify and locate the suspect.

On June 18, 2026, investigators responded to the suspect’s identified location and carried out a targeted operation with assistance from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office and ICE.The suspect was taken into custody after again resisting law enforcement efforts and charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, which is a felony offense.

“Every day, our State Troopers and law enforcement partners demonstrate exceptional professionalism and courage as they carry out their duties to protect the people of Florida. The incident in Orange County serves as a stark reminder of the dangers all law enforcement face when individuals choose to violently resist lawful authority,” said FLHSMV Executive Director Dave Kerner.

The Taliban used a landmark visit to Brussels on Tuesday topress EU officials to restart consular services for Afghans across Europe.

The delegation, led by Afghan foreign ministry communicationschief Abdul Qahar Balkhi, discussed measures aimed at “restarting broad-range consular services for Afghans in EU zone”, Balkhi said in a statement shared with Euractiv.

The controversial visit comes as theTaliban seek a larger diplomatic role in Europe. Most Afghan embassies on the continent remain staffed by diplomats appointed before theTaliban’s return to power in August 2021, with Germany the only European country to have accepted Taliban-appointed diplomats.

“This was a historic visit asfirst time ever that delegation from Islamic Emirate visited the EU and held talks with member states in Brussels,” Balkhi said in the statement. “We hope to build positive momentum to safeguard the consular rights of Afghans residing abroad.”

Euractiv was first to report in April that Taliban representatives were expected in Brussels for talks with EU and national officialson the possible deportation of Afghan nationals convicted of crimes and deemed security threats, at the invitation of the European Commission and some EU countries.

Balkhi – a key representative of the Taliban government since it returned to power –said the talks also covered arrangements for a “dignified” return process for Afghans being deported from the EU.

The delegation secured one-day visasonly on Monday, ahead of the one-day talks in Brussels.

A Commission spokesperson told Euractivin a statement that “the Commission services and Sweden co-chaired a technical-level meeting today in Brussels withtechnical level representatives of the de facto authorities of Afghanistan responsible for return and readmission.

“15 Member States participated, allowing for a follow up to technical discussions that had taken place inJanuary 2026 in Kabul, in particular with regards to the identification of returnees, the issuance of travel documents and their return. The focus was on persons who have committed serious crimes and who pose a security threat.”

The precise location of the talks was kept secret, with the Commission citing security concerns. Euractiv previously reported that the talks were likely to be held in a neutral venue, such as a hotel, rather than on EU premises.

On the EU side, officials from the Commission’s migration department attended the talks. EU officials previously told Euractiv that no EU politicians would take part to avoid any perception of formal recognition of the Taliban government.

The Senate on Tuesday approved a House-passed war powers resolution to limit Trump’s action in Iran in a 50 to 48 vote.

Four Republicans joined the Democrats: Rand Paul (KY), Bill Cassidy (LA), Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (AK).

Two Republican Senators – Mitch McConnell and David McCormick missed the vote.

McConnell’s office on Monday said that the Kentucky Senator will not be voting all week after his latest hospitalization.

Democrat Senator John Fetterman voted with the Republicans.

Tuesday’s vote marks the first time the Senate has passed the Iran war powers resolution.

Last month, the Senate advanced the resolution to limit President Trump’s war powers in Iran, marking a breakthrough for Democrats after seven failed attempts.

The House passed the war powers resolution earlier this month in a 215-208 vote.

The Hill reported:

The Senate on Tuesday approved a House-passed resolution directing President Trump to withdraw U.S. armed forces from hostilities against Iran after four GOP senators broke ranks and voted to undercut Trump’s authority as commander-in-chief.

The Senate voted 50 to 48 to approve the resolution, which passed the House 215-208 earlier this month.

The measure came straight to the Senate floor Tuesday for an up-or-down vote on final passage. It does not need Trump’s signature because it is a concurrent resolution.

But it does not have the force of law, even though it’s been approved by both chambers.

It directs Trump under the 1973 War Powers Act to remove U.S. troops from hostilities against Iran except for elements of the armed forces that would be necessary to protect U.S. assets or allies from imminent attack.

CBS is reporting on events within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. As CTH previously outlined,Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte is following a very predictable path. {GO DEEP}

So, who was removed?Well, I’m certainly not the Nostradamus of USIC, but if I were to hazard aneducated guess it looks like the National Intelligence Council – Directorate of Analysis, just lost six political staff, and 45 people from the various liaison desks were ‘sent back to their home agencies.’

The 45 returned to their ‘home agencies‘ were certainly from the liaison desks inside the DNI.

I’m not sure if that represents 45 from across all the desks, or the complete elimination of some overstaffed liaison desks. That said, given the nature of the leaking was recently to CNN (State Dept leaks to CNN),I am somewhat confident the State Dept liaison office inside the DNI is now empty office space. [Just a hunch

Pulte has been asking deputies and other directors for suggestions about cuts. Some of the ODNI deputies pushed for more cuts,but Pulte said that the 51 was enough for now, one of the sources said.

One source characterized the cuts as thoughtful and methodical. No staffers have been removed from the counterterrorism group.

No further firings are planned for now, two of the sources said.

The cuts follow hundreds of staff reductions last year by former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who stepped down last week.Last year’s planned downsizing sought to bring the office’s headcount from 2,000 to around 1,300.

PresidentTrump has pushed for further cuts, directing Pulte to “execute the immediate and needed downsizing of the office” in a Truth Social post earlier this month.

Trump administration announces $17.5 billion in loans for 10 new large nuclear reactors

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is providing $17.5 billion to speed the development of 10 new large nuclear reactors to meet the skyrocketing power demand from massive data centers.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright cited “tremendous interest” among developers of data centers that would buy the power, as well as utilities and energy companies. The nuclear plants could begin construction by 2030 and become operational in the mid-2030s, Wright and other officials said Tuesday.

“This is the start,” Wright said on a call with reporters. “We’re going to move with the players that are ready to stand up and move quickly. Once that supply chain is up and running, do we think there will be dozens of these built going forward? I’d be very surprised if there were not.”

Most U.S. nuclear power plants were built between 1970 and 1990. Only two new large reactors have been built from scratch in the United States in recent decades. Those two reactors, at Georgia Power Co.’s Plant Vogtle, were completed years late and billions of dollars over budget. The 10 new reactors will use the same design, Westinghouse’s AP1000.

Wright said the Plant Vogtle project struggled because of bad planning, supply chain problems and the COVID-19 pandemic. But, he said, the reactor design is “robust and sound.”

“By building in volume and at multiple locations, we think we will create and stand up a large supply chain and build a lot of construction expertise,” Wright said. “We expect the timing and cost of these plants to well outperform what was done on Vogtle.”

Seven utilities and energy companies signed letters of intent that identified sites, the Energy Department said. The agency plans to pick five, which would host two reactors at each site. The federal financing would be used to purchase nuclear components with long lead times, and are not construction loans.

The department declined to name the utilities involved or the states they are in, calling it premature until the selections are made. It did not give a timeline for making those selections.

President Donald Trump set a goal of quadrupling domestic production of nuclear power within the next 25 years, and he has signed executive orders to speed development. The administration is working to advance new nuclear technologies, such as small modular nuclear reactors.

Dan Sumner, president and chief executive officer of Westinghouse, said industrialized nuclear power needs to be built at fleet scale, in order for the United States to lead in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and the industries that will define the next century.

Critics of building more nuclear reactors say they’re too expensive and riskier than other low-carbon energy sources. Several states restrict or ban new nuclear power plant construction.

Travis Fisher, director of energy and environmental policy studies at the libertarian Cato Institute think tank, said the Energy Department has the authority to issue these loan guarantees, but he doesn’t think the executive branch should be so heavily involved in the electricity sector.

If the past is any indication, the next administration will use similar authorities to favor a different set of energy resources, he added. “Remove the state barriers and the federal favoritism and let companies build the power plants that pass the market test,” Fisher wrote in an e-mail Tuesday.

Data centers used 4% to 5% of the nation’s total electricity in 2024, a share that could nearly triple by 2028, according to government estimates. Some analysts predict nationwide electricity use to rise as much as 20% in the next decade, with data centers a big reason.

The Energy Department said the loans could speed up the development of these 10 reactors by up to three years and lower construction costs. Its goal is for all 10 to be under construction by 2030, to start providing power in the mid-2030s.

The utilities and Westinghouse will be expected to contribute up to $5 billion in equity in total across the five, two-reactors projects. Wright said his department provides up to $17.5 billion in loans, or $3.5 billion per project, in debt to pair with the equity. He said it’s “very, very low risk to the American taxpayers.”

The US Defense Department demonstrated several high-energy laser and high-power microwave weapons for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday, Laser Wars has learned, the first publicly known instance of a sitting US defense secretary personally observing a live directed energy weapon firing.

The demonstration, which occurred at the US Army’s White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, was attended by Hegseth and Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael.

“We have dramatically increased investment in scaling directed energy technologies, signaling to our manufacturing partners that the War Department is focused on delivering rapid solutions to the warfighter,” Michael said in a statement when reached for comment by Laser Wars. “We are directly tackling manufacturability, reliability and integration — areas that have challenged transition under previous administrations.” (The Office of the Secretary of Defense declined to comment on the record.)

According to sources familiar with the demonstration, participating directed energy weapons included the Army Multi-Purpose High Energy Laser (AMP-HEL) based on AV’s 20 kilowatt LOCUST Laser Weapon System; the “P5 version” of the Army’s 50 kw Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense (DE-MSHORAD) laser weapon system1 from nLight; the 300 kw Indirect Fire Protection Capability-High Energy Laser (IFPC-HEL) from Lockheed Martin known as “Valkyrie”; an Indirect Fire Protection Capability-High Power Microwave (IFPC-HPM) system based on the Leonidas from Epirus; and a “high-power microwave variant” of Raytheon’s Coyote interceptor, likely the Block 3 Non-Kinetic (BNK) system.2

While these existing programs are run out of the individual service branches, Michael’s office is “taking a more active role moving directed energy forward” through the new Joint Laser Weapon System (JLWS) effort initiated last year under the auspices of the “Golden Dome for America” domestic missile defense system, a senior Pentagon official told Laser Wars.

The White Sands demonstration “affirmed the ability of directed energy systems, particularly high-energy lasers, to defeat high-density, highly proliferated threats from a variety of sources and power levels,” the official said. “Scaling directed energy enables our warfighters to fight beyond the limits of magazine capacity and no longer limited by how many bullets are in the chamber.”3

The demonstration comes as the US military aggressively pursues alternatives to costly missiles and interceptors to counter the rapid proliferation of cheap, weaponized drones — a threat urgent enough that the Pentagon has proposed a historic $2 billion in funding for directed energy weapons research and development in its fiscal year 2027 budget request. With their comparatively low cost-per-shot and “infinite” magazine, laser weapons in particular represent an increasingly alluring solution to the drone problem, and the technology appears to have finally matured to the point where military leaders firmly believe they can actually field them at scale as deployable, supportable capabilities rather than an endless parade of exquisite prototypes.

Hegseth appears to share this confidence. In a written posture statement submitted to the House Armed Services Committee in late April, the defense secretary declared that the Pentagon intends to buy “tens to hundreds” of directed energy weapons in the coming years in a “strong and consistent demand signal” to a defense industrial base currently postured to produce only “a limited number of prototypes.” Hegseth’s comments are the clearest and most senior acknowledgement yet that one of the core obstacles to fielding directed energy weapons at scale isn’t the technology itself, but overcoming the bureaucratic inertia that has consigned so many promising systems to the “valley of death” between R&D and procurement.

The Enduring High Energy Laser (E-HEL) effort — the Army’s most serious attempt yet at translating decades of laser weapon R&D into a program of record — will be the Pentagon’s first real test whether this time is different. The successor to the DE-MSHORAD effort, the modular, 30 kw counter-drone system is moving on an unusually aggressive acquisition timeline: the first prototype was expected in the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, with production units slated for delivery by the end of fiscal year 2027. The service plans to “produce and rapidly field” up to 24 E-HEL systems over five years, an ambition that would have been unthinkable for a directed energy program just a few years ago. Even the US Navy has begun exploring the system’s potential shipboard applications.

Walmart is signing a long-term contract to buy nuclear power for the first time ever, a promising sign that the industry’s future is supported by more than just the AI data center boom.

The retail giant agreed on Tuesday to buy power from a nuclear plant in Illinois owned by Constellation Energy for its operations in the area, including its stores and a high-tech warehouse in Illinois that stores and sorts perishable food.

Walmart will buy 176 megawatts of power from the plant over a 15-year period, or enough power to serve around 150,000 homes.

The Walmart deal will allow Constellation to expand the capacity of the Illinois plant by 30 megawatts, a process known as an uprate, which can involve replacing older equipment and improving efficiency.

The financial terms were not disclosed, but these types of deals tend to go for premium prices because they allow the buyer to lock in their costs over a long period.

Walmart, which has pledged to eliminate net carbon emissions from its U.S. operations by 2040, will also receive the environmental attributes associated with the nuclear energy, which generates electricity without carbon emissions.

Constellation stock was down 0.3% on Tuesday, outperforming the S&P 500’s decline.

The deal isn’t large enough to significantly boost Constellation’s growth trajectory, given that Constellation has 55 gigawatts worth of generating capacity and the Walmart deal represents less than 0.5% of that total.

Still, investors are eager to see Constellation sign more long-term power agreements, particularly with technology companies seeking electricity for AI data centers.

A lack of similar announcements has contributed to the stock’s 25% decline this year, following multiple years of double-digit gains.

U.S. President Donald Trump will present the trophy to the winners of the World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed.

In a break from recent FIFA protocol, the trophy will be jointly presented to the captain of the winning team by Trump and Infantino.

At Qatar 2022 and Russia 2018, the two previous World Cups staged under Infantino's leadership, the FIFA president presented the trophy.

"We will be together with the president [Trump] enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together," Infantino told "Fox & Friends."

"We are together all the time."

The decision to co-present the trophy follows the controversy surrounding the presentation of the FIFA Club World Cup to Chelsea after their victory over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey last summer.

Trump was allowed to present the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James, but his failure to leave the stage led to him taking part in the team celebrations alongside bemused players.

Although recent World Cups have been handed to the victors by Infantino and his predecessor as FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, heads of state have previously presented the World Cup trophy.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Eight members of a North Texas Antifa terror cell received historic federal sentences on Tuesday, with prison terms ranging from 30 years to life in prison for their roles in the shooting ambush on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility. The attack led to the first federal Antifa terrorism prosecution — and later convictions — in U.S. history.

U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman sentenced ringleader Benjamin Hanil Song to 100 years in prison. Song was convicted of the most serious offenses in the case, including attempted murder and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Prosecutors proved at trial that he shot Alvarado Police Lt. Thomas Gross in the neck during the Fourth of July attack last year.

Bradford Morris, a trans militant and sex worker known as “Meagan Morris,” who lived in a Dallas commune with other trans individuals he referred to as his “wives,” was sentenced to 50 years. (The Kessler Heights neighborhood commune also functioned as one of the group’s bases.)

Maricela Rueda was sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Elizabeth Soto was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Because of the large number of defendants, Chief U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor simultaneously sentenced four additional convicts in a separate courtroom.

Cameron Arnold, also known as “Autumn Hill,” received 50 years in prison.

Zachary Evetts received 50 years.

Savanna Batten received 50 years in prison.

Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada, a Mexican national, received 30 years in prison.

The defendants were among nine Antifa members convicted by a federal jury in March following the first federal Antifa terrorism trial in U.S. history. Their prison sentences are the longest in American history for convicted violent Antifa members.

The cell plotted and carried out an attack on the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4, 2025.

Jurors found the defendants guilty of offenses including providing material support to terrorists, rioting, conspiracy involving explosives and related crimes.

The trial featured extensive evidence regarding the group’s ideology, planning and preparation for the attack.

Seven co-defendants pleaded guilty ahead of trial, and five agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and testify against their comrades. As part of their plea deals, they admitted in signed stipulated facts to the court that they organized behind an antifa ideology.

One of those co-defendants, Lynette Sharp, told jurors that members trained together with firearms and coordinated through encrypted Signal chats. Evidence introduced at trial showed that members operated under aliases and carefully planned the direct action.

Jurors viewed video evidence showing the cell arriving dressed in black bloc and equipped with firearms, body armor, medical supplies and explosive devices.

According to testimony, Song acquired 11 firearms and distributed them among members of the group before the operation.

The group used explosive fireworks to lure federal agents and facility personnel from the detention center before opening fire.

Lt. Gross survived the shooting. Jurors were shown his blood-stained ballistic vest during testimony.

Investigators recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and electronic devices stored in Faraday bags designed to block signals. Authorities also later recovered Antifa anarchist propaganda. Testimony established that members of the group had trained together and collectively acquired more than 50 firearms before the attack.

ICE arrests illegal immigrant Illinois teacher linked to Tren de Aragua mass shooting

A former Illinois teacher living in the United States illegally, who was allegedly involved in a 2024 Tren de Aragua mass shooting that killed three people at a Chicago house party, was arrested by federal authorities, officials said Monday.

Giovanna Mercedes Moreno Occhipinti, 32, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela with dual citizenship in Italy, was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on May 13, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.

Occhipinti entered the U.S. in October 2021 under the Visa Waiver Program and was supposed to leave by Jan. 2, 2022. She overstayed her visa, DHS said.

On the night of the Dec. 2, 2024, shooting, she allegedly drove the two gunmen—Ricardo Granadillo Padilla and Edward Martinez Cermeno—to the scene of the crime, where five people were injured in addition to the three fatalities, authorities said.

"Although Chicago police arrested this illegal alien shortly after the shooting, sanctuary politicians released her from jail without notifying ICE," DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement. "Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, DHS is doing the job that sanctuary politicians in Illinois refuse to do: putting the American people first and removing these dangerous criminals from our communities."

Martinez Cermeno was released from ICE custody in January 2025 after a federal judge determined that federal prosecutors failed to meet their burden of proof to keep him incarcerated while awaiting trial.

Immediately after the shooting, authorities found multiple weapons in Occhipinti's vehicle, DHS said. Authorities believe she helped Granadillo Padilla and Martinez Cermeno evade law enforcement after the attack.

The Chicago Police Department arrested Occhipinti on Dec. 5, 2024, on charges of unlawful use of weapons and other weapons offenses. However, she was released without ICE ever being notified under Chicago's sanctuary policies, which protect illegal immigrants from federal immigration authorities.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office decided not to prosecute the suspects, DHS said, and Granadillo Padilla and Martinez Cermeno were eventually deported.

"Giovanna Mercedes Moreno Occhipinti's actions were calculated and deliberate, leading to the loss of three lives," said HSI Chicago Special Agent in Charge Matthew Scarpino. "I'm proud of our agents for pursuing this case to the end, ensuring that everyone who helped facilitate this mass homicide is brought to justice."

Fox News was told by DHS that Occhipinti was a teacher at an unspecified school in the Chicago suburb of Elgin. Illinois officials have refused to cooperate with federal authorities and will not tell DHS the name of the school, Fox News has learned.

Occhipinti is being held at the Grayson County Detention Center in Leitchfield, Kentucky.

Haitian police official is kidnapped as a resurgence of violence grips the country

The abduction is perhaps the most brazen in a country where kidnappings in broad daylight have become routine.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The couple was taking their sick child to see a doctor here in Haiti’s capital when their SUV was intercepted.

It was an ordinary weekday morning on the Rue Reimbold, a principal artery in the relatively secure district of Bourdon, home to international organizations and diplomatic missions.

Armed men, some wearing police uniforms, pulled James Boyard, his wife and their young daughter from their Montero Sport, bundled them into a convoy and headed south toward the gang-controlled neighborhood of Martissant. They haven’t been seen since.

The kidnapping earlier this month was perhaps the most brazen yet in a country where abductions in broad daylight have become routine. Boyard is inspector general of Haiti’s national police. He’s also chief of staff to the country’s defense minister. His 6-year-old daughter is a U.S. citizen. Their captors are demanding $700,000 for their release, according to an official familiar with the details.

The abduction shows “no one is safe,” said Reginald Delva, a former secretary of state for public security. “The gangs can kidnap whomever they want, wherever they want.”

Two months into the arrival of the U.N.-backed Gang Suppression Force, the latest attempt to confront the criminal organizations that have beset the Haitian capital, kidnappings for ransom are resurging, officials say.

A GSF spokesman called the increase a “serious concern” that the force is “monitoring closely.”

“Kidnapping and extortion are among the means used by armed groups to sustain their operations and exert control over communities,” spokesman Jonathan Boulet-Groulx said. “The GSF’s mandate is to isolate, deter and ultimately neutralize armed gangs, which includes targeting the economic foundations that allow them to operate.”

The GSF has replaced an earlier U.N.-approved force, the Multinational Security Support mission, with plans for more personnel and more aggressive rules of engagement. It’s expected to be fully deployed by autumn. Its mission is to help Haitian police restore security so the country may hold its first elections in a decade.

But the goal has proved elusive. At least 2,300 people in Haiti have been killed this year in gang violence, Volker Türk, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, said Monday. The gangs, armed primarily with guns imported illegally from the United States, control 80 to 90 percent of the capital, the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime reported in January. At least 647 kidnappings were documented last year, the United Nations reported. But given the reluctance of victims to report, officials and analysts say, the actual number of abductions is much higher.

Haitian security forces have ramped up operations across Port-au-Prince and the Artibonite region. But those efforts, supported by private military contractors, have failed to halt the looting, sexual assaults, kidnappings and killings. In a country where gang leaders are believed to have relationships with politicians and business leaders, analysts say, defeating bandits in the streets alone won’t solve the problem.

The gangs are “neither insurgents nor revolutionaries; they are embedded within circuits of political and economic power,” the Global Initiative wrote in March. “The crisis is sustained by illicit financial flows, arms and drug trafficking, and patronage networks that protect and instrumentalize armed groups.”

The violence has displaced a record 1.5 million people, the International Organization for Migration estimates. About half of Haiti’s population of 12 million face acute or worse levels of food insecurity, according to the U.N. World Food Program.

Clashes between gangs in Cité Soleil after Haiti’s 1-0 loss to Scotland in the World Cup last weekend left dozens dead, according to Pierre Fritznel, executive director of the Joint Effort for Peace and Development. Gunmen opened fire on a rara procession of young people and children, some of them carrying trumpets, and burned some victims’ bodies, Fritznel said.

“The Haitian national police and GSF need to establish a permanent presence in the Port-au-Prince port area in order to guarantee the safe and continuous flow of cargo, as well as protect vital infrastructure,” said Richard Lebrun, general director of Terminal Varreux.
