NJ school community shaken as band director faces child sex assault charges

A 37-year-old music teacher and band director at two public schools in Bloomfield has been accused of repeatedly raping a teen victim who was also a former student.

Daniel Burbank, of Monroe Township, has been a teacher and band director at Bloomfield Middle School and assistant band director at Bloomfield High School.

Burbank was arrested on Friday and charged with attempted aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, sexual contact, criminal restraint, endangering the welfare of a child, and luring.

His employment status with the public school district was not immediately known.

The Hungarian parliament on Monday, June 15th, voted to amend the country’s constitution and limit the mandates of prime ministers to 8 years, with a retroactive effect.

The amendment, which critics describe as a typical example of ad personam legislation, and is accordingly, dubbed ‘Lex Orbán,’ is widely understood as designed to prevent five-time Hungarian PM and Fidesz president Viktor Orbán from returning to power.

The bill was approved with 135 votes in favour, 50 against, and 6 abstentions.

Viktor Orbán commented on social media, under a card that says “It does not [just] affect me. It is about me.”

Retroactive laws are usually seen as contrary to the ideals of the rule of law. Whether they are acceptable depends on the legal tradition and the justification offered.

Dems replace ‘mother’ with ‘gestating parent’ in latest woke rewrite of NY law

Mom’s not the word.

A woke new bill erases the terms “mother” and “father” from state child custody and parental laws — a gender-neutral rewriting that’s expected to spark a flood of similarly clunky legislation.

“Mother” would be replaced with “gestating parent” while “father” becomes “non-gestating parent” or “parent” in family court along with in domestic and education law, under the legislation, passed this week by state Democrats.

“Paternity” proceedings to determine a child’s biological father would meanwhile become “parentage” cases, under the bill, which was rammed through the Assembly in March and of the Senate this week.

A “putative father” — also known as a deadbeat dad — would now be called “an alleged parent” in official state records, under the bill, which was sponsored by liberals Sen. Luis Sepulveda (D-Bronx) and Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-Westchester) and will go to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk for approval.

“It’s woke culture run amok. It’s one-upmanship,” said state Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar, a former longtime state Senate and Assembly staffer.

“It’s an example of how out of tune the New York legislature is. It’s an unnecessary and wasteful use of time,” Kassar said

He said the gender-neutral bill is likely to lead to a stampede of others, and called state lawmakers’ priorities backwards — considering they were almost two months late in passing a state budget.

“Imagine people who are considering moving to New York seeing this and saying, ‘Do I need this silliness?’ This is a really weird group of elected officials. It comes out of left field,” he said.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman pounced.

“Democrats led by Kathy Hochul have continued their declaration of war on New York families by canceling the loving terms of Mom and Dad and replacing them with ‘gestating and non-gestating parent,’” Blakeman said in a statement. “The insanity ends when I’m Governor.”

Republicans who voted against the Democratic sponsored bill called it outrageous.

“At a time when New Yorkers are being crushed by utility bills, rising costs, and public safety concerns, Albany Democrats have decided one of their final priorities in the last days of session should be replacing mothers and fathers in state law,” said Sen. Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick (R-Nassau). “That is not what families are asking for. I am a mother and proud to be called ‘mother.’

“New Yorkers are proud to celebrate moms and dads, and they would rather we, as lawmakers, focus on the issues that actually matter,” she said.

Other members of the Democrat-dominated legislature rolled their eyes as they signed off on the unwieldy phrasing, as the legislative session comes to a close for the fiscal year.

“I have a word we can use for this, ‘unnecessary,’” one Democratic lawmaker told The Post.

Democrat infighting had delayed approval of the massive $268 billion state budget by nearly two months before it was passed last week.

Hochul, who proudly wears the moniker of New York’s “first mom governor,” dodged on saying whether she supported the gender-neutral rewrite.

“Well, I’m not familiar with what was introduced,” Hochul said at an unrelated event in Brooklyn Wednesday. “I’ll take a look at it. This has been my practice for five years.”

A memo accompanying the bill claims the change is necessary because it brings state law into line with generally accepted standards for how family courts handle surrogacy cases and ones with same-sex parents, including couples with two moms.

Adoption lawyers said Wednesday that use of the terms “mother” and “father” in family law is outdated given the growth in same sex couple adoptions and surrogacy contracts.

“You have adoptive parents who are of the same gender in New York. There are two male parents, two female parents,” said adoption lawyer Leslie Silver-Hoffman.

Sepulveda, a Bronx Democrat who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, defended his measure.

“The bill was needed to be consistent with current statute and case law,” he said.

US Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) blasted state politicians for the move, saying mothers are “the foundation of families and society” and not a “political construct.”

“At a time when New Yorkers are struggling with high taxes, rising costs, and public safety concerns, Albany Democrats are focused on redefining motherhood,” Tenney said. “This is yet another example of out-of-touch politicians prioritizing progressive ideology over the issues that actually matter to hardworking New Yorkers.”

State Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R-Staten Island) said it was another example of Democrats conjuring up problems.

Russian strikes kill 11 and set historic cathedral in Kyiv ablaze

At least 11 people have been killed in a wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine that set a major religious landmark in Kyiv on fire, President Volodymyr Zelensky says.

Four people were killed in attacks on the Ukrainian capital, while five rescue workers died trying to put out a fire caused by a strike on the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, officials said.

The 11th Century Dormition Cathedral was significantly damaged in what Zelensky called "one of the biggest Russian crimes against Christian culture today". Russia denied hitting the site.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone attack in the Russian city of Tula killed three people and wounded three others, including a one-year-old, local officials said.

Drone and missile strikes set fire to buildings and cars and left more than 140,000 people in Kyiv without electricity, its Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Most of Ukraine was under air raid warnings on Monday morning.

The Kyiv strikes, which targeted several residential buildings, left at least 23 people wounded. Zelensky said a total of 53 people had been injured across Ukraine.

Brother and sister guilty of attacking girls in Dundee

A man has been found guilty of making sexual remarks to a group of girls aged between 12 and 14 in Dundee before grabbing and pushing one of them to the ground.

Ilia Belov, 22, claimed he confronted the girls after receiving abusive remarks and said he saw one of the girls with a knife in her waistband before the assault.

His sister Nadjedzha Belova, 20, previously admitted assaulting a 13-year-old girl by seizing and pulling her hair, dragging her to the ground, and striking her on the head to her injury during the incident.

The pair will be sentenced at Dundee Sheriff Court on 5 August.

The court heard that Belov had said "hello sexy, I'll show you a good time" to the girls while walking past them in the Lochee area of the city.

After one of the girls called him a creep, he had returned to confront the group and called his sister, who arrived shortly afterwards and assaulted one of the girls.

Belov then claimed he had seen the girl's weapon and, fearing for his sister had pushed her.

He claimed the children had called him a migrant and used an expletive.

But Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith rejected Belov's claim of self-defence and said the girls' evidence had been "eloquent."

He said: "I am entirely satisfied by proof beyond reasonable doubt that the trigger for all of this were the comments that you made."

The court heard previously that the 12-year-old girl Belov attacked admitted pulling a knife and axe from her waistband, but only after Belov had assaulted her.

The girl told the trial previously that her sister started to shout at Belov after the remarks, but the pair were pulled away by a friend.

She then told the court Belova approached the group, pushed her and threw her sister to the ground.

The girl said she had tried "to go for" the woman but was pushed by Belov.

She said he pushed her on the head and her head hit the handrail of a ramp.

Cross-examined by Belov's solicitor Larry Flynn, the girl said she had then taken the axe and knife from her waistband, and that Belov filmed her with them on his phone.

Belov told the trial that he had been walking to a shop with his father for cigarettes when he saw a group of young girls.

He claimed that they started to make "cheeky remarks" and one called him a "(expletive) migrant."

Asked by Flynn if he said "hello sexy" to the girls or "I'll show you a good time", he replied "No, I swear on my god."

Belov claimed that after walking away, he was still being "disrespected" so he turned around and went back to the group.

He said at that point the girls "started panicking" and said he was following them.

Belov said he then phoned his sister as the group had grown in numbers and he was "worried about myself."

Belov said his sister then arrived and grabbed one of the girls by the hair and pushed her.

Asked when he saw the other girl holding the weapon, he said "After I pushed her."

He said he had previously seen a knife sticking out of her t-shirt.

Asked why he pushed the girl, he said: "I thought she was going to do something."

After the girl fell to the ground and got up, Belov said she "pulled a knife and axe and tried to get to us."

Belov said he filmed the girl as she held the weapons, which the court heard were recovered from a nearby roundabout.

'Heartbreaking' CCTV footage

Prosecutor Michael Robertson asked Belov: "You were the adult in this situation, you could have just walked away couldn't you?"

Belov replied: "You are right. I needed to know why they are disrespecting me for no reason."

Robertson said: "You phoned your sister and not the police?"

Belov said: "I thought we were in danger."

Robertson put it to Belov that he had not previously seen a knife when he pushed the girl and only saw the weapon after she got back up.

He replied: "I'm pretty sure I saw the knife behind her back."

Speaking after the conviction, a girl's mother told BBC Scotland News the guilty verdict was "a good thing."

She said: "They were telling the truth and they were slandered. There were too many lies at the start, so I'm glad it's all come out."

The woman said that it was "heartbreaking" seeing her daughter getting "dragged about" on the CCTV shown in court.

Sean Penn will direct a film about the early life of a cop who was present for the Jan. 6 storming of the United States Capitol. Bradley Cooper is being eyed for the lead role, though the real life inspiration for the film has yet to be identified. The film is currently untitled and has been set up at Warner Bros. It is described as “an unexpected story about friendship,” which needs a little work as a marketing hook and seems like a clear attempt to minimize any future controversy.

To that end, insiders insist the film is not really about Jan. 6 and is only tangentially related to the attacks. Despite that spin, it’s unclear how this project will play with David Ellison and the team at Paramount who are poised to buy Warner Bros. Discovery now that the Justice Department has cleared their merger. Ellison has made a point of highlighting his family’s ties to Donald Trump, hosting a dinner for the president and members of his administration in April and showing up at the UFC fight that was held at the White House last weekend. That event, which was held on Trump’s 80th birthday, was broadcast on Paramount+, Ellison’s streaming service. Penn, who has called Trump “an enemy of mankind,” is of a different political persuasion.

The actor recently won his third Oscar for “One Battle After Another,” which Warner Bros. produced. Penn also won Oscars for his performances in “Mystic River” and “Milk.” His credits include “Dead Man Walking” and “Sweet and Lowdown,” but he has been busy behind the camera over the course of his career. As a director, Penn’s films include “The Indian Runner,” “Into the Wild” and “The Pledge.” Penn wrote the script for his Jan. 6 film and will produce with John Ira Palmer and John Wildermuth under their Projected Picture Works banner. Production is targeting a mid-2027 start.

Judge who had sex in courthouse and attended political event agrees to exit Georgia election case

A federal judge who was disciplined after an investigation found that she had sex with a police officer in her chambers and attended a partisan event, then lied when confronted with the allegations, has recused herself in a fight over Georgia election records after the U.S. Department of Justice raised questions about her ability to be impartial.

The Justice Department sought to remove U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross from the case, citing her reported attendance at an event for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who prosecuted President Donald Trump. Ross on Tuesday filed an order recusing herself, writing that she was doing so “out of an abundance of caution for the potential perception of bias.”

The Justice Department had sued Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger seeking an unredacted statewide voter list, and Ross was presiding over that case.

“Both the Trump administration’s present and Willis’s past efforts have become heavily polarized,” Ross wrote, explaining that she “cannot discount” that an objective observer might interpret her attendance at an event sponsored by Willis’ campaign as support for the district attorney’s position, even if she only went to see former colleagues.

Ross received a “private reprimand” after a court investigation found that she had sex in the courthouse with a high-ranking uniformed police officer within earshot of staff, attended a partisan event and then initially lied to deny the allegations.

The investigation report says Ross went to an event hosted by a district attorney’s campaign. The judge said the district attorney had been a friend since 1999 and acknowledged having gone to the a private mixer held on the sidelines of the event to visit with former colleagues in the district attorney’s office.

Ross previously worked in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and overlapped there with Willis there before Willis was district attorney.

Willis in August 2023 obtained an indictment against Trump and 18 others, accusing them of participating in a wide-ranging scheme to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. That case was ultimately dismissed in November.

SPLC boss funneled $1.2 million to lover in neo-Nazi group — pair even had joint bank account

A top Southern Poverty Law Center official is accused of helping funnel $1.2 million in donor money to an informant in the National Alliance white supremacist group — who was also allegedly her lover.

The Department of Justice filed a superseding indictment against the SPLC accusing it of funneling donor cash to hate groups they were then telling donors they were fighting.

One figure, referred to as "Employee-2" in the indictment, is described as a "person who would become Director of the SPLC's Intelligence Project."

It also describes how "Employee-2" wrote an article based on material stolen from National Alliance headquarters in 2014 and then paid off an informant to take the blame for the robbery.

Based on the details in the June 2 superseding indictment, "Employee-2" is believed to be Heidi Beirich, a 58-year-old fascism expert who was the director of intelligence at the Alabama-based anti-extremism nonprofit between 2012 and 2019.

The indictment alleges Beirich was very close to the informant known only as "F-9" who "infiltrated the neo-Nazi organization National Alliance."

"[Beirich] was also in a romantic relationship with F-9. During this relationship, [Beirich] and F-9 shared a house and two bank accounts," the indictment alleges.

"Between 2015 and 2021, approximately $140,000 in donors' money flowed from the SPLC operating account … and was ultimately deposited into the joint bank accounts held by F-9 and [Beirich].

"This amounted to approximately 66% of all money ever deposited into their joint bank accounts. [Beirich] then used donors' money to pay the couple's personal living expenses."

The indictment also claims that while getting paid by the SPLC, the unnamed informant was also raising money for the National Alliance and helping to "carry out its extremist activities."

The indictment describes how a source broke into National Alliance's headquarters in West Virginia in 2014 and "stole approximately 25 boxes of documents," took them over state lines into North Carolina and copied them, before returning the originals.

In 2015, Beirich wrote an article allegedly based on the stolen materials for her group's "Hatewatch" section of its website. That article, "Chaos at the Compound," is still available.

The indictment then describes how the SPLC tried to cover up who their informant was by paying a second informant "approximately $6,000" to take responsibility for the burglary.

Beirich and SPLC did not respond to requests for comment from The Post.

"I knew it was that fat, ugly hog Heidi Beirich," National Alliance chairman William White Williams, 78, told The Post from his home in east Tennessee. He also confirmed the details of the indictment match what happened to the group.

"I think some of those cluckers wanted to get out of the movement and they went to the SPLC for help. But instead of helping them, [the SPLC] said, 'Why don't you stay in and get paid?'" he added of the informants.

Beirich had joined the SPLC in 1999 and became director of the Intelligence Project in 2012. She left in 2019 as part of a massive shake-up, when many top brass departed amid accusations of racism and sexual harassment, with the group mainly being run by white people and black people in its lower ranks. Beirich was not publicly implicated in those scandals.

Alabama-based SPLC has been charged with wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering conspiracy for allegedly engaging "in the active promotion of racist groups at the same time that the SPLC was denouncing the same groups on its website," acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel announced on April 21.

Patel charged that far from using spies to dismantle the hate groups, the SPLC gave them over $4 million to keep promoting their ideologies, thus giving them something to point out and seek donors to fight against. The nonprofit has amassed some $800 million to do so, its publicly released nonprofit accounting shows.

>A trove of internal records from a secret society for powerful figures in US politics, finance, and tech was left exposed online, WIRED has confirmed, naming participants in its events and revealing sensitive personal details they were assured would stay private.

The group, called Dialog, is a private, invitation-only organization cofounded in 2006 by the billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel. It convenes US officials, foreign government figures, and Silicon Valley executives at off-the-record annual retreats. Dialog has spent two decades declining to disclose its members.

A directory in the website's code was first revealed by the Swiss hacktivist maia arson crimew. Known for exposing the US government’s No Fly List and breaching the surveillance-camera company Verkada, crimew tells WIRED the directory surfaced via an anonymous tip. WIRED independently verified its contents.

A source separately provided WIRED with the registration list for Dialog's 2026 retreat, which names 222 people and records what the list describes as each registrant's membership status and attendee type, including “active member” and “guest.” The retreat is scheduled for August 12-16 at a venue near Dublin, Ireland.

The same data lays out a program of off-the-record sessions, including: “Money (Does?) Buy Happiness,” “Bring Back Nuclear,” “Navigating WWIII,” “Battlefield Technologies,” and “How’s Your Sex Life?” Other talks include “Build-a-Cult,” moderated by the founder of the Christian networking site Pray.com, and “Build-a-Party,” run by a former White House national security official.

Together, the documents show an extraordinary convergence of power. The registration records list General Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's supreme allied commander Europe and the head of US European Command, who took the post in July 2025 and is recorded on the leaked list as having attended Dialog gatherings since 2021. The website directory names sitting Trump administration officials, two US senators, six members of the Paypal Mafia, a former Middle East chief of intelligence, and a sitting ambassador to the United States, along with the founders and directors of many of the country's largest surveillance, data-broker, and advertising-data companies.

Those executives appear with senior US officials overseeing their industries. Auren Hoffman, Dialog’s chairman, founded location-data broker SafeGraph and the identity-resolution firm LiveRamp, two of the most important suppliers in the consumer data economy. He appears in the directory alongside Treasury secretary Scott Bessent, whose department writes the rules on financial data, and Senator Ted Cruz, chairman of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which oversees the Federal Trade Commission and its data-privacy authority.

Palantir cofounder Joe Lonsdale, whose software runs case management for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and data fusion for the Pentagon and intelligence community, is listed in the same society as Army secretary Dan Driscoll and Representative Jim Himes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, which oversees agencies Palantir contracts with.

All registered with personal or corporate accounts, placing their attendance outside the email systems subject to public-records laws.

What ties the roster together more than any title or office is a shared preoccupation with artificial intelligence, longevity, and the near future. Asked on a sign-up form to predict the future, registrants returned again and again to the same theme: that AI will reorder work, war, education, and belief within a few years. Several foresee mass labor displacement and a swing back toward unions and government programs; others predict an “AI winter,” domestic terrorism targeting data centers, criminal defendants choosing AI lawyers over public defenders, or religious revival provoked by the disruption.

A federal judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit from a former Yosemite National Park ranger who was fired after helping hang a large transgender pride flag on the park’s famous El Capitan rock formation.

Park ranger Shannon Joslin, who identifies as non-binary, was let go by the National Park Service in August 2025.Joslin sued the agency, claiming the firing was a retaliatory move that violated her First Amendment rights, aimed at punishing a specific political message. The termination followed the incident in May 2025 where Joslin, who was off duty at the time, helped display a transgender pride flag on Yosemite’s famous granite cliff.

Joslin, along with a “coalition of LGBTQ activist climbers, known as ‘Trans Is Natural,’ said its members unfurled the transgender flag ‘in an act of solidarity and resistance,’” Breitbart News reported in May 2025.

“The ‘Trans Is Natural’ group conveyed that the flag display was in protest of President Donald Trump and his administration, citing the removal of transgender propaganda from government websites,” the outlet noted.

“Yes, I lost my job for this flag. But this wasn’t the first way that the Trump administration had been scaring us into silence as federal workers,” Joslin said in an interview with the Hill in March 2026. “And that felt wrong, too.”

In the ruling, Judge Jennifer L. Thurston of the Eastern District of California dismissed the case, finding that the court lacked the legal authority to grant the relief Joslin requested.

“The government has another more fundamental and more persuasive point: under the laws that Congress has passed, and under the legal precedent that a federal trial court must follow, this Court does not have authority to decide whether Joslin was fired for unconstitutional or illegal reasons, nor to block a hypothetical criminal case against them,” Thurston wrote.

Thurston was appointed to the federal bench by President Joe Biden after the Senate confirmed her nomination in 2021.

Joslin, who holds a doctorate in genetics and worked as a quantitative wildlife biologist, sought reinstatement to the position and asked the court to prevent any potential criminal charges related to the incident.

The late-night timing appears to be due to President Trump focused on the G7 discussions andnow turns his focus back to the domestic agenda; DNI, Save America Act and FISA (702) reauthorization.

President Trump outlines in the Truth Social post that FISA (702) renewal must be attached to the Save America Act, and Jay Clayton’s replacement, Jamie McDonald, must be confirmed to replace Clayton in the SDNY prior to the DNI nomination moving forward. This position puts Bill Pulte’s appointment as Acting DNI back into the mix.

VIA TRUTH SOCIAL – “The Republicans agreed with Dumocrats to remove very fair, and talented, William Pulte, from serving as Acting DNI in return for getting FISA approved by the Dumocrats. However, the Republicans moved so fast with the hearings of the Great Jay Clayton, current U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, that Pulte would be gone before the Dumocrats would vote on FISA.

Now, the Dumocrats are saying they will vote against FISA — So, the Republicans wound up having fulfilled their commitment, but Dumocrats broke the Deal.

I intend to use my parliamentary privilege to name perpetrators and their enablers in the chamber.

Vance Calls Himself a “Conspiracy Theorist” on Epstein, Angers Hags on The View by Correcting Their Lies About Trump’s Ties to Epstein

Vice President JD Vance triggered the hags on The View on Tuesday when they attempted to press him on the Epstein Files, and he corrected their lies that Trump was Epstein’s “best friend.”

During the excruciating five-minute exchange, Vance was questioned on a New York Times report about the White House’s meetings surrounding the Epstein files

“I am, frankly, kind of a conspiracy theory on the Epstein stuff, and that story says that that’s one of the things that’s true, is that some people called me a conspiracy theorist on the Epstein stuff,” Vance explained when pressed on the report.

The report alleged that in Situation Room meetings with top White House officials, Vance was “panicked” over the Epstein issue and the rift it was causing in the MAGA base. Vance noted, “There are things that are true, things that are false, and things that are totally missing context.”

When it was noted that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles labeled Vance a conspiracy theorist, Vance confirmed the allegation, stating, “And I love Susie, but absolutely, she thinks I’m a conspiracy theorist on the Epstein stuff because I think that it’s crazy that you had this guy who was clearly a sex predator who was hanging out with a lot of very wealthy and powerful people.” He continued, “Like, that really bothered me. I don’t know what’s there, of course. Nobody knows exactly what happened unless you were there, but that really bothered me. And I wanted to have full transparency.”

Vance went on to note that Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act to release the Epstein files. “Sorry, I do have to defend my boss,” Vance said. “You know, one of the things you see in the Epstein emails is that Jeffrey Epstein hated Donald Trump, and that Donald Trump literally reported Jeffrey Epstein to the police. That’s one of the things that came out in these files.”

That’s where Ana Navarro butted in, claiming that Trump and Epstein were “best friends for about a decade” and that he signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act “under duress.”

“Some Republican women Congresswomen, like Lauren Boebert, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, did not give in to his pressure of not signing,” Navarro said.

Vance fired back, “Yes, Donald Trump, but he said this, he knew Jeffrey Epstein back in the 1980s. He also threw Jeffrey Epstein out of his club when he found out it was a creep, and reported him to the police. That’s something that the media often misses when it reports the story.”

“They tell the fact that they knew each other in the 80s, which the President, himself, admits. They ignore the fact that he narked on him to the police and led ultimately to Jeffrey Epstein’s downfall,” Vance added.

Still, Navarro continued arguing with Vance, repeatedly interrupting and falsely claiming, “They didn’t just know each other, and a lot of them were incredibly close friends.” Sunny Hostin and Elizabeth Farrah Griffin then began shouting over Vance as he tried to respond.

When he was finally allowed to respond, Vance called the notion that Trump is afraid of Republican lawmakers and that he could be put under duress by a few congressmembers “crazy.”

“He was very frustrated that the Democrats were making this about him, when he’s like, ‘Look, I threw the guy out of my club. I am the guy who reported him to the police,’ or one of the people who reported to the police. The President was frustrated about that, absolutely,” Vance continued. “But he eventually came to say, you know what, let’s just get everything out there, let’s have this out in the public, and he actually called the senators. I was there. He called the senators and said, “You know what? Pass this bill, I’ll sign it. And that was it.”

DARPA just quietly published a funding solicitation in December that I think almost nobody outside of defense and biotech circles has read. I’ve spent the last few days going through it and honestly I’m still processing what I’m looking at.

They’re trying to build something they call a “nucleic acid compiler.”

A protein machine that lives inside your cells and writes DNA using nothing but light.

No injection. No viral vector. No physical delivery mechanism of any kind.

Point a specific pattern of photons at a cell and the machine inside reads it like code and synthesizes whatever genetic sequence it was told to make.

They’re calling the information transfer “massless” because literally nothing physical moves between the programmer and the cell.

Every method we currently have for getting genetic information into a cell requires moving matter across a biological barrier.

How did a hamster wheel get into space? The Hamster Wheel Nebula (Longmore 8) was discovered by Andrew Longmore in 1976 as a part of a larger survey of the southern sky. This survey employed several improvements in photographic technology, including the use of highly sensitive film, to capture deeper and fainter objects on plates that were examined by eye and catalogued. The featured image, taken at Observatorio El Sauce in Chile, depicts an intricate wheel structure of glowing hydrogen that was thrown out into space by a dying star and ionized by the leftover white dwarf. This structure was barely visible on the original plate, emphasizing the power of modern telescopes and cameras. Two opposing clumps of red hydrogen gas encased in the blue veil of ionized oxygen hint at the presence of a companion to the bright white dwarf at the wheel’s center!

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed an Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the City of Urbana, Illinois, for records related to a January 2025 fatal drunk-driving crash caused by an illegal alien who was later convicted in the death of Katie Abraham (Judicial Watch Inc. v. City of Urbana (No. 2026CH000049)).

The lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, Champaign County, Illinois, after the Urbana Police Department failed to produce police reports, supplemental records, and video evidence concerning the crash involving Julio Cucul-Bol, a Guatemalan national who was unlawfully present in the United States.

Cucul-Bol pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed two women – 21-year-old Chloe Polzin and 20-year-old Katherine J. Abraham. Three other passengers were injured. He was arrested near Dallas, Texas, while on a bus heading to Mexico. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for charges that included “aggravated driving under the influence in a crash resulting in death.”

Cucul-Bol is also facing unrelated federal charges.

In September 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security launched Operation Midway Blitz in honor of Abraham, “relentlessly arresting criminal illegal alien drunk drivers across Illinois.”

“This is a straightforward transparency case. The criminal prosecution is over, yet the Urbana Police Department is withholding records about a fatal crash,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Katie Abraham lost her life. The government should not be hiding these records from the public.”

NASA’s Quantum Lab Aboard Space Station Gets Chilly Upgrade

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have switched on NASA’s newly upgraded Cold Atom Lab, a one-of-a-kind facility designed to improve how scientists explore the fundamental workings of matter and develop new quantum technologies.

By leveraging the unique environment of microgravity in space, the lab can accomplish cutting-edge science impossible to do anywhere else.

Quantum science is the study of matter at the smallest scales, like atoms, electrons, and single particles of light.

While it’s easy to imagine atoms as billiard balls bouncing off one another, they also exhibit wave-like behavior, can exist simultaneously in two places at once, and may even pass through one another.

About the size of a minifridge and operated from Earth, the Cold Atom Lab chills atoms to temperatures below minus 459 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 237 degrees Celsius).

At this extreme cold, just above absolute zero, atoms form a large quantum object called a Bose‑Einstein condensate, or BEC, a collection of matter waves that is a fifth state of matter beyond solids, liquids, gases, and plasma.

This object follows the rules of quantum mechanics despite being much larger than subatomic particles, and the microgravity of low Earth orbit helps make the waves even larger.

“At the coldest temperatures, matter behaves drastically different from anything we have experienced,” said Jason Williams, project scientist for Cold Atom Lab at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, which built the facility.

“The wavelike nature of matter dominates, and ultracold matter can behave in ways that are not only unexpected, but that also enable extremely precise measurements of time, gravity, and motion.

The lab has lots of tools — especially with this latest upgrade — to let us probe the nature of the universe.”

The project supports five international teams studying fundamental physics. It also tests the space-readiness of quantum tools that could support future Earth science and space exploration missions.

NASA’s Webb Catches Exoplanet Getting Roasted

One well-done gas giant, coming right up! That’s the latest from researchers analyzing NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope’s observations of HD 80606 b, an exoplanet four times the mass of Jupiter with an extremely elliptical orbit that sweeps close by its Sun-like star.

The research team is presenting their study and preliminary findings Tuesday at the 248th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Pasadena, California.

“Hot Jupiters are already considered some of the most extreme exoplanets we know of, but even among that population, HD 80606 b is one of the most extreme,” said Tiffany Kataria, the study’s principal investigator at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

“We typically think of hot Jupiters as hot gas giants sitting right next to their stars, but this planet’s highly eccentric orbit creates a completely different beast.”

As the planet plunges close to its star, Webb shows its temperature skyrockets by 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit. Previous studies have shown that radical temperature swings can cause an exoplanet's chemistry and clouds to change in real time.

According to the research team, the dynamic conditions of HD 80606 b make the planet an ideal target to observe these changes with Webb’s powerful instruments.

“Observing a planet like HD 80606 b is actually very efficient because its unusual orbit, with the corresponding swings in temperature and chemical composition, allow us to gather data under varying conditions in just hours and apply those findings to other hot Jupiters or more conventional exoplanets,” said Laura C. Mayorga, co-investigator on the study and an exoplanet astronomer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland.

Measurements of temperature and chemical composition were done with spectroscopy, a technique scientists use to break light into its component colors to reveal information about the composition, temperature, motion, and physical properties of objects in space.

The team used Webb’s MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument) for an extended observation of HD 80606 b before, during, and after its periastron, or closest pass by its star. During periastron, the planet also passed behind the star from Webb’s perspective in what’s known as a secondary eclipse.

The observation was years in the planning, as scheduling the time to catch the planet at this point was complex given its extremely elliptical 111-day orbit, and Webb’s own restrictions on where it can look during specific times of the year, based on Earth’s position in orbit around the Sun.

Researchers say they have only begun to peel back the layers of an incredibly rich dataset, but they can clearly see a dramatic shift in the exoplanet’s temperature.

“Webb has shown that the planet’s increase in temperature was even more extreme than we anticipated based on Spitzer data,” said Kataria.

In fact, the planet had already been dubbed the “roasted exoplanet” and even got its own poster in NASA’s popular series.

NASA’s now-retired Spitzer Space Telescope laid the groundwork of infrared observations of HD 80606 b, showing that more detailed spectroscopic data from Webb would be especially compelling.

“Spitzer did amazing work on this exoplanet, and now Webb is building on that legacy by enabling us to drill down to distinguish specific chemical signatures like methane and carbon dioxide, which is just amazing progress,” said Ryan Challener, co-author and research associate at the Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science.

"There’s so much to learn from this one dataset here — we really are just getting started deciphering what Webb has to tell us.”

Alien Probes Could Be Hiding In Solar System Beyond Our Sight, NASA Study Suggests

We keep asking whether anyone is out there, while barely checking whether they might already be here.

Alien probes could already be hiding somewhere in our Solar System – and our current surveys are nowhere near good enough to rule them out, according to a NASA‑linked study presented this month by astronomer T. Joseph W. Lazio.

The work, outlined at the Proceedings of the IAU Centenary Symposium in the United States, argues that even if an advanced civilisation had sent robotic scouts into our cosmic backyard, today's instruments would almost certainly miss them.

Lazio, a senior scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, sets out where such probes might lurk and why they would be so hard to spot.

The idea that an advanced civilisation might send robotic scouts between the stars is no longer confined to science fiction. Humanity has already done a crude version of it.

Five human‑made probes – Pioneer 10 and 11, Voyager 1 and 2 and New Horizons – are on escape trajectories that will eventually carry them out of the Solar System.

They will be long dead by then, but they prove a basic point: once a species can build rockets, it can end up seeding the galaxy with hardware more or less by accident.

Lazio pushes the logic one step further. If we can do this, why could another civilisation not have done it earlier, and targeted our system on purpose?

How A NASA Framework Reimagines Alien Probes

To move beyond hand‑waving, Lazio borrows a framework first set out in a W. M. Keck Institute for Space Studies report. It sorts potential extraterrestrial artefacts into four types, based on where they are and whether they are still working.

In space, there are 'passive probes' – dead or inert objects drifting through the Solar System on hyperbolic paths – and 'active probes', still powered, able to manoeuvre, measure and transmit data.

On planetary surfaces, the same split holds. 'Passive surface artefacts' are impact debris or abandoned hardware sitting quietly on the Moon, Mars or some distant moon.

'Active surface artefacts' are the heavy‑duty kit: operating machines on a planet or asteroid, from a mining rig to an automated monitoring station ticking away for aeons.

Within that grid, Lazio poses a simple question: are 'one or more physical extraterrestrial technosignatures present in the Solar System today', and can our current technology disprove that?

His conclusion is blunt. Not even close.

Why We Would Struggle To Spot An Alien Visitor

The irony is that the 'easiest' alien probes to find might be the ones drifting in deep space, and even there we are fumbling.

Astronomers have already tracked a few interstellar interlopers, including the object labelled 3I/ATLAS. Each time an odd trajectory or strange light curve crops up, the script is familiar.

Social media lights up, and a few serious scientists entertain the idea that we might be looking at an alien craft.

The hard bit is not seeing the object, but proving it is anything more than another lump of rock or ice.
